Pískorypka popelavá - Ashy mining bee (Andrena cineraria)
Výrazná samotářská včela s nápadným černým a šedo-bílým zbarvením. Patří do rodu pískorypek.
Popis
Délka:
- samice: až 14 mm
- samec: asi 10 mm
Poměrně velká včela, velikostí srovnatelná s dělnicemi včely medonosné. Samečci jsou výrazně menší.
Barevně je to černošedý druh.
Samice jsou velmi výrazné včely s lesklým černým zadečkem, který může na světle vypadat namodrale.
Mají dva odlišné pruhy světle šedých chlupů přes horní a dolní část hrudi a bílé chlupy na hlavě.
Hlava samičky vypadá podobně jako hlava samečka. Ale má mohutnější kusadla. Potřebuje je při vyhrabávání hnízdeček v zemi.
Samci mají podobné znaky jako samice, ale jsou menší a nejsou tak nápadní. Mají zřetelnější světlé chloupky podél boku hrudi a také v horní části zadečku.
Samečkové jsou na hrudi pouze světle šedí, a rozlišování různých druhů samečků pískorypek bývá problém.
Výskyt
Široce rozšířený palearktický druh, rozsah sahající od Fennoskandinávie, na jih do Iberie a na východ do severní Číny.
Často se vyskytuje na různých otevřených slunečných místech, zejména na místech s písčitou půdou, včetně pobřežních oblastí, rašelinišť, břehů řek, otevřených lesů, stejně jako zahrad a městských oblastí.
Hnízdečka mají až 30 cm hluboká, na povrchu bývají vidět osypy z vyhrabané zeminy okolo vchodu
Život
Pískorypka popelavá je jarní druh, objevuje se už v březnu na prvních jarních květech, a lze se s ní setkat až do června. Potom staří jedinci umírají, a nová generace se vyvíjí v zemních komůrkách, mladí se ukáží na denním světle až zase na jaře.
Patří k významným opylovačům ovocných stromů.
Pískorypky nejsou schopné aktivně produkovat teplo. Proto se musí před svým vylétnutím zahřívat na slunci. Při chladném počasí a zatažené obloze neopouštějí hnízdo.
Samečkové se probouzejí ze zimního spánku koncem března, asi o týden dřív než samičky. Proto stihnou opylovat i raně kvetoucí ovocné stromy.
Samečkové netrpělivě očekávají líhnutí svých partnerek, je to náplní jejich života, pátrat po samičkách. Jen těm nejšikovnějším z nich se to podaří.
Pískorypka popelavá je jeden z mála druhů, kterému vyhovují krátce stříhané trávníky ve městech. Právě v nich si samičky budují svoje hnízdečka. Ta jsou 10 až 30 cm hluboko v zemi a bývají v nich dvě nebo tři plodové komůrky pro jejich larvičky. Kolem vstupu do hnízdečka bývají osypy z vyhrabané zeminy.
Je známo, že vchod do hnízda na konci dne uzavírají potom, co skončí s hledáním potravy, a také když prší nebo když jsou vyrušeny.
Přezimuje jako dospělec v natálních buňkách.

Description
Length:
- female: up to 14 mm
- male: cca 10 mm
Females are very distinctive honeybee sized bees with a glossy black abdomen that can look blueish in the light.
They have two distinct bands of light grey hair across the top and bottom of the thorax, and white hair on the face.
Males have similar markings to females, although they are smaller and not quite as noticeable. They have more obvious light hairs along the side of the thorax and also at the top of the abdomen.
Habitat
A widely distributed Palaearctic species, the range extending from Fennoscandia, south to Iberia, and east to northern China.
Frequently found in various open sunny places, particularly on sites with sandy soil, including coastal areas, moorlands, river banks, open woodlands, as well as gardens and urban areas.
Females create nests underground by excavating burrows in bare/sparsely vegetated earth.
Life
Usually seen from March to June. Rare records of males from July and August and females from August may represent a second brood.
They feed from a wide variety of spring flowers and shrubs, including buttercups, hawthorn, blackthorn, gorse and fruit trees.
Female Ashy-mining bees excavate small tunnels in the earth to make their nests. They can occasionally be found nesting in large groups, but are also found in small groups or as single females.
The burrow is excavated to a depth of 10-20 cm with two to three cells per nest.
The burrow entrance is left open during foraging trips, but at the end of these flights, during rain and when disturbed the burrows are closed.
The species overwinters as adults within the natal cells.
