The audio in this video was recorded with in-ear binaural microphones. If you wear headphones, your mind won't be blown, but it will go, "woah."

Here on TheTopher, I'm known for putting a camera on my face and driving cars. Whether it's about any of my personal cars or reviews on weekly test vehicles, the goal is to give you an idea of what a certain car is like to drive or live with. Most of my videos are filmed in POV, with my clothes on, and (for like the 5th time) with in-ear binaural audio. Which, if I haven't made it clear yet, is why you should wear headphones. Because of the whole "woah" factor. It's there, trust me. Try it, you'll see! Or don't. As long as you whitelist me on your adblocker I'm okay with whatever you do or don't do with regards to headphone usage. That is all. Oh and I guess you should also probably subscribe. Why are you still reading this, you should be watching the video. With headphones! Hah, had to sneak that in there one more time. Later! - Auta a dopravní prostředky
As an owner of a 15' TLX Advanced ( Elite in Canada) I think you did a very nice job describing the car. Love that you did a night review, and that you took some time with it to give a proper final opinion. As for the two screens, I've heard people complain about it before but it only takes some time with it to get a feel for why there are two. Two are better than one. Every time. You can have the NAV up top, while your passenger finds their song, or backup camera up to top while your passenger is finding a radio station or using the phone Ap.When you have two people in the car, two screens become very sensible.
I test drove this car today and just WOW! It’s like a totally different car from the 2017 version. I didn’t expect to be impressed at all, but this car is freaking quick and that J35 makes such a beautiful sound.
Doesn’t have a j35 it has a 9 speed zf source transmission
@@jersey1470 wdym it has a J35 engine paired with a ZF transmission I have the same car
@@jersey1470please don’t speak if you don’t know what you’re saying😭

Amazing video. Loved how you reflected on your first impressions, that's something I haven't seen from many car youtubers. You seem to know a lot about Acura, but I'm a bit taken back by how many few videos you have of the brand. Hope you can do something about it. Anyways, great work!
Your reviews are always thorough and enjoyable to watch.
Great review! And I LOVE the '18 TLX A-Spec. Beautiful and really cool car!
I just bought a TLX 2020 A-Spec AWD and I LOVE IT!! I had an old 06 TL that I loved and upgraded to what feels like a super car in comparison.
I love mine, no regrets at all. I do leave it on sports, econ and normal do make it a bit lazy but on sports and sports+ lots of fun to drive. Here in Canada this car is SOOOO much fun in the snow once you get used to how it reacts and drifts.
Sh awd is amazing on track. The 4th gen tl 6mt beat 2011 evo x mr an and s4 on a 4 min track by decent margin. Beat s4 by 20 seconds and evo x mr by 10 seconds( best driver, same day) Not bad for a 4000lbs honda that was the most unwanted car until they realized how it performs lol .

where can I watch this? thanks
The side marker on the 3G TL looks not only awesome but practical at night. Really hope Acura bring it back on the next gen TLX.
My favorite part is the inner door handles have a little glow too looks dope
Ive owned both tlx a spec 4 cyl and now tlx v6 tech package i love the v6 its fast people dont understand these arent race cars 300 hp is plenty and awfully fun to drive
would you take the 4cyl but with a-spec or v6 with tech package? debating between the two right now and would love your input
@@parthpatel5931 deff the v6 the a spec was extremely slow the more i think about it but also the 2020 is so outdated inside I cant believe I pay 500 dollars a month for it but I'm not going to lie I beat the hell out of it and its fun check my CZcams vid the latest vid I did is called 2020 tlx screaming it sounds really good just stock
To be honest I don't think I can ever drive a 4 cyl ever again
@@TheRage191 thanks for the input dude! The 2021 is a little out of my range right now and these dealers aren’t moving on prices. The 2020 however falls perfectly there. I’ll check out the video, thanks !! I’ll probs lean towards the v6 anyway since the a-spec is only styling and minor performance upgrades
@@ThreeNTheMornin Ended up getting a 2020 TLX V6 A-Spec!! The engine is so smooth its insane!!!
45k. No way. Bought the same vehicle with 6k miles on it for over 25% off that initial price. Never buy a brand new car!
Did the same. Found a 2018 TLX V6 Tech. Was only 32k.
Got a brand new 2019 aspect V6 for 34000. I don't think anybody wants one including me but the deal was too good to pass up.
Same. Got a 2019 V6 SH-AWD A-Spec package, Tech package for $34k. Was shopping for a BMW 340i but the deal was pretty good to pass up.
@@damionrowe So after 4 months I decided I hate the car. The transmission is shit and the engine has no torque. It's not a bad car and it is extremely comfortable but no. When I traded it in I owed 33500 dollars and got 30000 on a trade in for a Golf R. I know they are not reliable but it has a 6 year 72 thousand miles warranty. The Acura is cheap for a reason. Nobody wants one. I hope you are happy with it. Remember you get what you pay for. The BMW is a much better car. That's why it costs so much more.
@@cmontes7961 I was afraid I might hate it too, I've had mine for less than a month. I traded in my 2017 GTI Sport because I couldn't do the manual anymore on my commute...too much traffic. I was actually getting a Golf R for 41K but decided to try the TLX cause it was different. I only financed 18k so hopefully I like it, but if I don't, I just go back for the Golf R or the 340i.
This review was awesome i love how u got on it.
I like these night reviews. If you could do them more often that'd be great.
Excited to watch! Thanks for upload. Miss thr 6mt option
Have 2 6mt tl shawd atm
Definitely looks better than the pre-facelift at night. Interior accent lighting is something most buyers overlook when shopping for a car, given most dealers are closed at night & daytime doesn't remotely show them that well. The LED headlights are also cool & seem quite effective. Better than the German big 3 which still uses halogens unless you check the options box.
I have a STRONG feeling that ZF 9spd which I spoke harshly of will be disposed of by 2018, replaced across the entire Acura lineup (at least with the 3.5L V6) with the Honda 10spd currently only found in the Odyssey. The only real benefit is that on highway cruising the 9spd can almost make the engine tick over 1500rpm which helps MPG (the Audi S3 on the other hand with its close ratio 6spd S-tronic revs at ~3000rpm at 70mph).
HID-LED-XENON But no V6.
iishyxvietxboyii1 I understand what you're saying no power thats why I see theses cars and destroy them in my 2009 Hyundai genesis 4.6 v8 don't buy a 40 or 50k worrying about fuel economy get a ILX
HID-LED-XENON If you care about fuel economy, get a Prius?
Damn bro, predicted the future
@@thecarsectionthecarsection6420 I’m sure fuel economy matters now since gas is alittle over $6/gallon for premium and just over $5/gallon for regular
Thanks for doing a night video. Not too many vlogers do this. Great work! Maybe you could do day vs night videos??
Was thinking about getting an SUV but this car makes me want to get a sedan. It looks very appealing.
great vid bro very nice and wish i could drive a car like this
Great review.
these are soothing
awesome review. Thanks
awesome video. How would you compare it to the Audi S3? Seems like it has more tech stuff going on.
nice demo
How do you compare this to the Lexus IS350 AWD F Sport?
Can you please do make a video on the 2018 Camry. I'll really appreciate that
You are right sir. I drove the 2018 STI and then I drove this one. The STI is for pure performance with a louder engine and 6-speed short throw shifter. It accelerates and turns much faster than TLX. However, it is not as comfortable and luxurious as TLX. I would prefer driving a TLX for my daily usage. I feel good in it. And the seat is amazingly comfortable and wraps me around.
Which car would you say has the best headlights to date? How would you rank top 10 headlights in cars?
this car sounds nice. looks good too.
Those LED headlights look excellent at night
I just drove a 2017 3.5.... I normally drive a civic, to me I was impressed.... are you used to V8 power? I've read the differences with the 2018 and will probably go that route after they depreciate a little... Thanks for taking us riding, you gave me a good run down on passing some of these idiots out here on FM roads. It would have been nice if you used Android Auto and put Waze on the upper DU.
Would you choose this or the 2018 xse v6 Camry? For everyday driving
I have the 2010 and the I experience the same issue of the car not responding at tikes when I hit the peddle. I believe that it's a combination of the computer sensing recent driving style, and a way of controlling gas consumption.
I am surprised you didn't get into the 9 speed transmission with the dog teeth, which pulls it really fast from 40 mph on up.
As an owner of 2019 Acura Aspec (same trim and color), I LOVE this car!! Its a superb and fun ride! It could have a bit better fuel econ but its the perfect mix of luxury and performance! Beaten audi's with mine ;)
I feel like this could be ASMR if you always spoke softly (like in the beginning)
Topher what do you think of the 2021 TLX so far?
nice handling a joy to drive sedan.however I would still wait the 2018 RLX unveiled to compare with the TLX
I have a 2012 TL 3.7 Sh-Awd and I test drove an 18 A-Spec and to be honest my car felt faster. The trans does make this car feel sluggish. It looks really good but has 290 HP and mine has 305. But on looks alone it will stand out and get the what's that look!
That was a very nice car thanks! 😃👌❤👍
The 8 speed dual clutch transmission would've been better suited for this car imho. The 9 speed is rather lazy.
the 8 speed on my ilx is sick af
The 9 speed still rev matches on down shifts once warm. It can be driven aggressively and it likes it. Steering feel is also awesome!
I read somewhere that the 8spd couldnt handle the torque the V6-models made
No, the 8DCT can't handle the torque of the V6.
Been that way since the TLX was introduced. I have a 2015 V6 Adv. pkg TLX and the lag is still irritating to this day. I guess the 2018/2019’s are no better.
Great review, as always. Are you planning to do a review of the 2018 Audi S4?
Ashan Balasooriya your complaining about the most mundane items. Nobody leaves the top screen on clock mode especially since it has Apple and Android car play. Try getting all those features for 45k in Any other competitor.
Trying to decide between this and the 2018 Accord Touring, same price, 23k. Which should I choose? Performance is a priority but not THE priority.
The torque vectoring AWD system spins out the rear outer wheel on turns.
Would you still prefer a TLX. A-Spec AWD over a Subaru WRX for mostly daily driving?
A good commute daily driver and late nite hype car while your exotics are in your garage sleeping 😴 😊
I've got a 2016 Accord Sport CVT. Considering trading it in for this. I only average 25-26 MPG combined leaning with much more city driving. I'm guessing I'd average closer to 20 combined in the same driving conditions.
Is this the technology package? Or the advance/elite package?
What did you think about the ELS audio?
The AWD version will probably provide a better driving experience, which it should.
Is the highway noise minim? Well insulated?
No lights on the door knobs/handles?
Really loving this car. I understand many people’s’ dissatisfaction in the transmission and power but from what I read and watch, it’s becoming clearer that this is a car the really makes “you” drive it. Some people don’t want that, I get it, but that’s exactly what I want in a car. I think it looks better than the accord and add in the AWD and it’s a favorite of mine.
Definitely better looking than the Accord. I could have gone with the Accord Sport 2.0T, Touring 2.0, but went with the TLX V6 Tech. Also the Honda V6 is tried and true.
DriveCFL damn. We were in the exact same situation... I too decided on the tlx and am picking it up in a few days.
@@SAT1337 nice! Which model of the TLX? Aspec, Tech V6?
Hi, is the rear turning light amber or red?
Got this car a few days ago and loving it so far. Handle very well and no wheel spin yet. Great to pull out of busy road
How is the car treating you? Reliable?
@@justingallagher4864 sold it 2 years ago for m340i :D
Can you do the Q50 red sport at night
Nice review. See if you can get your hands on the bigger brother, the RLX
I agree, especially the RLX SH-AWD Hybrid.
Trades46
RLX has the best SH-AWD system, if you know that it has more sophisticated system than other models
Light up gauges?! Ooh neato.
Very nice review. Thank you!
Beautiful car, but I want to wait for the engine upgrade in this car. Maybe a twin turbo with more torque and HP for 2019?
I currently drive a 2008 Acura TL-S 6 speed.
I am waiting too, but to be honest, I don't see it happening anytime soon.
Type S 2021, now shut up
Great review. Only thing I don’t like is the video makes me dizzy with a lot of sudden moves...maybe you can try to attach the GoPro somewhere inside the car? Just a thought :-) but really descent video. I’m definitely putting this car in my consideration list.
Isnt it amazing how flawlessly sh awd uses ur steering input and throttle input to put power to the correct wheels. If you do donuts litterly 70% power on rear wheel and 30% front opposing wheel. Makes you spin on yourself. Its crazy how agrresive sh awd can be at putting power where needed to turn. I got a 4k video of the 6mt j37 sh awd donuts and you can see the 70/30 im talking about so cool lol
SHAWD is amazing in snow. Best system I've used in snow
So would you recommend this car . Since it’s so lazy would you say its worth 45k
Very Nice
Oh my god, you live pretty close to me, Novi/Northville area in Michigan.
Needs the dual clutch on the V6 they need to beef it up if it can’t handle the torque
Great video, great review. Would you say the AWD is a must have, given that's its a $2000 option?
Definetly
Does Chris ever reply to comments???
I have a Maxima. Getting this next
You should review the Acura Integra
Nice Video man.. I ended up getting 2019 A-spec tec I noticed that the Bluetooth when playing music or videos is delayed 2 Second or so it's annoying especially when I'm changing songs are you having any issues like that??
and I thought it was going to have wireless charging in the dash pocket I guess it's only available in the Elite package!!?
I got a 2016 advanced package and it has that delay on all the yrs and models. Acura please fix this problem
Have you noticed hood flutter in higher speeds at 80ish 90ish
Sat Nav is a must if you want to take the car for a drive in the canyons. I do it in my FA5 and I look at the GPS map to see the types of corners up ahead. You can't always do that with a phone because you won't always have cell phone service. Brand new this car is $45K fully loaded. That's too much. I rather have the FK8 with $10K to spare! But when I'm ready for a new car, I'll give this one a hard look as a used vehical. For $45K I rather get the MDX or a used Lexus GS F for that money.
Tires should be fine for the daily. Most buyers are not going to the track with this. If they do then sure you can get better tires. Michelin Primacy are very good for the daily.
How's the TLX compared to the IS in terms of the performance or "sporty" feel of it?
Or even the SH-AWD compared to Lexus' AWD
JBML007 how is that, aren't both Lex and Ac using AWD with vectoring with a bias to rear wheels?
Heyu Yoma ayeee thank you!
Mine has the red leather in the A Spec. With the white exterior. By the way we build that car
how is this when compared to 3 series, C-class, and A4, which can be up to $10k more than this when similarly equipped? Is this car a steal or is it worth spending that much extra...?
Michael Merriweather II This is the question. We know better cars exist. But how does the price compare to other equally equipped cars?
Interiors will be better in the German competitors most likely but the driving experience is probably more enjoyable with this
Isn't isn't isn't.. comparing to what car? To an audi a6, to an bmw 5 series, to an mercedes e class? In this cathegory this car is the best buy in terms of reliability, quality, driving experience and anything else you want from a car targeted with this price
How do you get these cars for 5 days?
He probably has a press pass or something
No audio review?
I would still wait for the all-new Buick Regal GS.
LOL
Shin Ken i agree
Shin Ken at least with a Buick you may, if you want, get a sunroof delete. Optional 3rd pedal & stick shift too!
What would challenge the competition is if you could leave (and start) in your preferred driving mode
You can it’s in the infotainment settings and center display settings
Great video Topher !
Could you please review a black and decker toaster ?
Slap some good performance or all seasons on them and the understeer problem might go away
Holy shit I just noticed the time on the dash is the same time on the top of my screen that's weird
i still cant believe the accord has on glass display and the acura doesnt. you can tell they did not refresh this year because it kept the dual screen design. lazy work. acura should be a priority when it comes to refreshes, if not the same time
About the acceleration part my 9th gen v6 accord the same way too I hate it
It's something how the benchmark is against BMW and Audi and it doesn't handle like those and this and that. Well you're paying a bit more for the German cars . You can't touch the packages they offer in the TLX for anywhere near the same price in the German cars. The TLX steering is rather precise and power in the V6 is more than you need for a daily driver. Believe me you can get into big trouble with the V6.
How would you compare this car to the 07-08 TL Type S overall?
Rain Santiago my guess is that it handles better with the SH-AWD but the appeal of it still isn't the same that a Type S had. I loved my TL and I've always hoped they re-introduce it again.
alex martens yeah the TLX is a half hearted attempt to try to bring back the magic the 3G TL and 1G TSX.
Rain Santiago yes. When I needed something bigger, I decided to go with the 2011 RDX since it was a turbo- VTECH and still had SH-AWD Since the new ones use the same system as the CRV. it's been a fun to have and much more useful. But I still always loved the look of the TL in those years.
alex martens TLX is better all around, if it had a manual it would be way better. Now of course a lot of people prefer the 3G TL but once I upgraded to the 4G even that's better
Young Sperm I agree that a lot of things were improved by the styling was not one of them. 2004-2008 TL still looks classy and sharp. But the 4G is forgettable. They also pissed off a lot of TL customers since the TLX is smaller then the TL was, but your TSX customers were happy since it was bigger then those.
8:16 If the cruise control isn't accelerating fast enough
Just throw it into Sport+!
The best or nothing
Vtec power

What are you doing up at midnight? 🤔
🤣🤣🤣🤣
Pls remember brand new car with brand new tires you’ll never have good grip tires need to break in atleast 800 to 1200 miles before you can expect the good good grip after the new tires oil oil wears off
You call it a lazy car, I call it a well behaved car. Unlike my 2006, which I enjoy, it's temperamental characteristics under hard acceleration.
Hello !!!
How do you think this car would do on a track?
Jason D will be good for it's class sh awd will give you amazing performance on track
the acura tlx or infiniti q50
Only thing I don’t like is the gear buttons never been a fan of that unless it’s in a luxury car like Mercedes’ but nothings like a shift knob
Can you do this with the 17 a4, I would like to hear the review about it.
I have one and I love it to bits
curseknight5 lol me too!! I'm so interested to see if he will love it as well.
Audilife I would like to see his view on that as well. Right now I'm thinking this TLX or Audi A5 Sportback, which it could be very close to the A4. Also looking into Lexus IS Fsport.
MarioPL I was also cross shopping between the Lexus IS fsport but I couldn't pass up the technology, power, and fuel economy. I get about 36mpg highway, and 30mpg city. This could easily beat the is300 fsport but idk about the is350fsport. The a5 will be even better with more space.
What'd you end up getting?! I'm starting to look into A4 quattro, IS350 awd, Acura TLX V6 SH Aspec.
Is fire 🔥😍😍😍😍😍😍
Not a fan of the dual screen set-up
