- You don't have to make a shroud, hood, box or enclosure to improve the dust collection on your miter saw. This simple dust collection boot helps direct and extract the dust close to the source and works at most of the angles that your saw was originally designed to be able to do. This video covers how to install and use it on the DeWalt DW716 and DW716XPS.

I was one of the initial batch of orders for the boot, thanks for the instructional how-to video.
I briefly considered "just making my own" but then went ahead and ordered yours, and I'm so glad I did! You really did put some time and effort into finding the right material and getting it to fit just so. I now see very little dust escaping the shoot. My lungs and shop thank you!
Great idea. Was going to give it a go for my 716. But then i realized it would likely take me several attempts and several hours to dial it in. So, I wised up and ordered your product. You deserve every penny you can get for your hard work.
I may do this on our cold-cut metal saw as well - great implementation of a good idea.
I just received mine and installed it on a DW716XPS. Seems to work well so far :-) Thanks!
The installation was easy: two smalls screws off to remove the original plastic insert, then put those screws back in to hold the silicon insert.
That's a cool and simple solution to keeping the sawdust under control. I was messing with my miter saw enclosure today attempting to get a bit better dust collection.
It's funny people asking him if it fits this or that saw. I think he would need all those saws to test fit that dust boot and I'm guessing he doesn't have all those saws.
Update, just installed and it is quite effective. I say it helps with about 90% of the dust. I am satisfied. Watch this video before you buy. Maybe he can print a QR code of the link of this video too with his printed instructions.
Dude, I can't even tell you how much I appreciate your effort to improve the dust collection on this chop saw, which we own a few of. My sincreset suggestions, not unlike the comments below, is to keep pushing until you have a complete connection to the saw (not magnets!) and add a weir to prevent big chunks from getting stuck. Again, I'm so pleased you have found a really important solution which I have to deal with EVERY DAY, BUT I don't want to see you getting sued (or "named" and having to answer) because you did not provide a "physically secured and safe for the operator solution". Maybe it is best to try and license or consult to the manufacturers. It would just be a hot mess to see an honest guy like you who is solving a real problem get screwed for doing so. Thank you for your wonderful work and please don't get screwed.
That's just brilliant, dude! 😃
Stay safe there with your family! 🖖😊
Top notch basic saw
I need this for my 780!
Need a version of a Dewalt Slider! Great work
Looks like that will work for the Hercules miter saw as well
Thanks just got one. I am curious to see shopnation version of this soon. I got this for my flex volt version.
Any chance this might work on a Dewalt 718? Any plans to develop parts the will fit a 718?
Very cool thanks for sharing this
This shroud is great - can you also suggest the best connector for the Dewalt DW716 dust port to either my Rigid Dust Vac (2.5" &/or 1 7/8" hose) or my Milwaukee portable 0880-20 portable 2 gal Vac ?
This is brilliant! So much simpler (and it looks to be at least as effective, as well!) than the many over-engineered attempts at miter saw dust collection I've seen in other vids.
Would love to buy your product and send support, but I'm still using an old workhorse DW703 10" miter saw, and I cannot imagine that you'll ever retrofit your design to fit my dinosaur. ;-)
So, I just ordered some silicone mat off of Amazon, and will be attempting to make my own. Hopefully I don't waste too much material in the attempt. :-/
Also loving the idea for the under-the-deck dust collection, that will be my next project to tackle. :-)
Thanks very much for the inspiration, Inspire Woodcraft!
So I purchased your product but I have a different miter saw. Mine is a Dewalt 779 sliding compound. I had to improvise your product. I installed it by first removing the factory plastic tube. Then I removed the factory flaps altogether and installed your product with small screws and washers. I then reinstalled the tube back into its original location and secured it using the factory bolts. It worked out great and although it’s not 100% dust free, it significantly improved from the factory’s poor designed dust collection.
Thanks for posting this. I have the same saw and was looking for a better solution.
I’m curious if the fact that it slides causes you any problems. Looking at just making one for my makita slider
I made one for my Ryobi out of a Dollar Tree place mat!
Does this boot work with the DW708 sliding miter saw? If not, do you have one that does? Thank you.
Ordered for a DWS779. Anything will be better than the collapsed lung Dewalt installed on this saw.
Do you have any dust shrouds that will fit a kobalt 7 1/4 miter saw? Very interested in buying one
Veyr happy to see someone working on an affordable solution for this massive problem. But, it also looks like it won't work on DeWalts 12" sliding/compound saw?? Can someone please correct me if I"m wrong on this?
A creative and clever solution for improved dust collection. Thank you Jody for posting the Am*z@n link to the silicone mats. I need to design a collection skirt for my Metabo miter saw.
Need this for the DWS779
funny thing, I just bought a new deewalt miter saw and saw your other video on this prior to it arriving. it arrived and actually has this feature included. It's not exactly the same as there's a split on the underside but I was very pleasantly surprised.
Interesting, what saw was that?
@@robw95 DW779, though I don’t think it gets quite as close to the blade.
Please find a way for dw780 too
Great job! Do you make them for other saws? I just purchased a Hercules 12" compound miter saw and I'm looking to improve dust collections. Thank you!
Looks fantastic. I just ordered one. Are there magnets you would recommend and could link to by any chance?
I'd love to just buy your product. Does anyone know if it fits a Kobalt or Makita 7 1/4" saw??
DW7187 - do you have anything that works with this older version.
Hi, do you ship to the UK? Cheers
Too bad tool deaigners can't figure this out...kudos to you sir, i hope you sell tons!
Nice design and invention. Might be too late now, but this would have been perfect to patent and then sell and/or license back to DeWalt.
Great solution!! Any chance you have a design configuration for a 12" Milwaukee model #6955-20?
Ordered the shroud. Source for magnets
Got one that works with the DW715?
Will this work for the 715?
Very nice design! Not my brand of saw but still nice. I don’t suppose you can design one for the Harbor Freight model, lol
Hi! Do you by chance sell one that fits a Dewalt model# DWS779? Cheers 🍻
Will this work on the DSW779?
Any chance this will work on an older DW706?
Think it will work on a 717 sliding Dewalt?
This a great idea for the dewalt, but if you cant afford a dewalt im stumped. I have a Sheppach and both sides are no where near even, and it slides back and forth on two bars so needs to pass through the fence without hinderence (but your design comes pretty close to what i need. I have tried several card board mock ups and can't get the thing to work as succesfully as yours. Another thing is that most my chassis is alluminium so magnets dont stick. Any ideas whould be brilliant. This is the one i bought thats on ebay some time ago to show you my dilema (Scheppach Sliding Cross-Cut Mitre Saw HM216SPX Lightweight Stable) thanks for your insight.
Will either of the dust collection pieces fit a Makita 12” slinging compound miter saw?
Can I purchase the full scale pattern of this dust collection boot? I purchased your files to make the insert for the saw (Thank you) and am excited to put it all to use. Thanks for considering.
Will this work on a 780?
I know its old, but any chance of making one for the DW718
Can you make one for the Bosch compound mitre saw?
I 2nd for the Bosch
I think Travis at Shop Nation has them
@@joshbolton4916they are a 3d printed part so a little different but still improves the bad dust collection on that saw. I made my own for a makita saw the dust collection is right up there with festool after modifications.
Does it work with the sliding dewalt miter saw?
What would the minimum size mat be to make one of these for an Acme Miter Saw?
I have tried your method and it seems my strobe light stays on all the time, any help? Or maybe a little clearer wiring diagram thanks Tim
Ordered.
Tired to return but the contact form on the site didn't repond to 2 of my comments, and order address just shipped it back to me , so don't look to return it since the address is non-responsive.
Have you had any feedback on someone trying this with the Makita sliding miter saw?
Do make for the Dewalt 749 saw
Does this work on DeWalt slider?
Would this work for the Dewalt DWS780? Looks extremely similar
i guess they don't answer questions...
Do you have one for the 779 yet?
cool
If you make one for the festool Kapex 120 REB I will buy it in a heartbeat !
The one in Kapex is the same concept right?
@@ybeeybee yes
Will this work with DW715? I just bought my 1st mitre saw and I'm really surprised about the about of saw dust everywhere. The dust collector bag that came with it does collect some but not nearly as much as it should.
Wondering the same
The sliding saw?
Ordered this for my Dewalt DW715. When I received the item, I thought it looked too simple to do the job to satisfaction and almost regretted making the purchase. Nevertheless, I installed it and immediately made a couple of plywood test cuts. The results were beyond my expectations. I have been using my Dewalt saw connected to a Rigid shop vac for over 5 years. The difference this little sheet of rubber makes is night and day compared to not having it in place! I live in the North East and my shop is in my basement. Opening the windows to let the dust out is not practical in the dead of winter, unless you are willing to pay for a much higher heating bill. Dust management is therefore critical for people in my situation. I paid a lot of money for this item considering a probable very low materials cost to manufacture it. That being said, considering the health benefits, I would make the purchase again without hesitation should I loose it or damage it somehow. The fact the the installation takes seconds and the fact that the saw maintains all its functionality are also considerable advantages. I was planning to build a dust "box/hood" around the back and sides of my mitre station like many youtubers have, in addition to my current, ceiling mounted air filter and dust mask. Based on the results of my test, I am cancelling that project. This little rubber shroud is that good! The simplest solutions are indeed often the best solutions.
has anyone tried to fit this on a Dewalt sliding compound Miter saw?
Looks awesome! Will it fit the DWS779?
@danlavely It won’t, but I’m working on it.
@@InspireWoodcraft AWESOME. I want one for my DWS779. Thank You.
How would you recommend this boot be held on to the plastic instead of metal ?
Same question here.
Hi I purchased this for my DW716 and it does not fit. I thought I was doing something wrong so I put it in a drawer to figure out later. When I rewatched the video, I realized it is not going to fit my saw. My saw has a plastic insert where the silicone insert is supposed to fit into. Any recomendations?
@thepoolwizard3512 If I'm understanding correctly, it sounds like maybe you have a DWS716 instead of a DW716. That plastic piece can be unscrewed from the saw and taken out, then the boot installs in its place and gets screwed to the bracket. The boot has holes in it for just that reason. This video might be helpful to you too: czcams.com/video/81UyM8yoi48/video.html
I went to order all three components, but was shocked at the shipping charge. I had to back out. Are there any other less expensive options for shipping?
@dankaufman Oh no! I’m so sorry. We are having some inconsistent shipping issues with the website right now. It either charges next to nothing, or way too much. I’m actually trying to work this out right now as I type this. So hopefully soon! If you want, shoot me an email and we can see what we can work out otherwise.
Will this work on DW 715?
@cjgillygoo35 We have a had several folks "make it work" on the 715s, but I don't have specific instructions on how to do so, unfortunately. To my knowledge it doesn't work as-is though.
@@InspireWoodcraft thanks for getting back on this! Appreciate it!
Has anyone tried it on the DWS715?
Anyone using a Makita sliding saw? I got the boot as a starting point, and some strong magnets, but the magnets don't seem ideal, especially on the right side of the saw. And I stupidly didn't note when I ordered that the DeWalt saw is not sliding, where mine is. I will keep experimenting, but in the meantime if anyone has had success with a Makita slider- maybe with cutting a new boot, I'd be all ears.
Did you have any luck getting the boot to work on your Makita? I have the older LS1212 and would like to get some decent dust collection. Might just get a sheet of the silicon and have a go but would love to hear any tips you have to offer.
This should work on my Hercules , as well. The saw was designed very similar to the DeWalt 780 (I think that is the model no.) and the factory boot was awful. I think the best solution for miter saw dust collection would be a fan that produces hurricane force wind in front of it and a black hole behind it. Warning: this solution may create unsafe work conditions for the user.
Great job. With same model I tried unsuccessfully to attach the fabric funnel to existing screw points. Do you remove DeWalt’s plastic port?
780! 780! 780!
This is rubber mat not silicone
*Promo sm* 💪
Not to take away from your innovative solution. However, with a background in industrial marketing and also having directed Applied R&D groups, I’m mystified that the saw manufacturers have offered no solution as you have. Their dust port (I have the same design on my Big Dewalt and two smaller miter saws (Delta and Metabo) is a pathetic half assed attempt to dust collect. I’m often working outside so the issue is far less important to not important at all. When I have to move indoors, what a mess! I note that the vacuum attachment to the dust port collects maybe 20% of the dust. Even when switching to my big heavy duty vacuum. Unacceptable.
They could start their saw design from the ground up and integrate it fully into their saw units. Until everyone else catches up, they’ve got a differentiator. Until then, rack up those sales!
