- In this video we are going to try to solve miter saw dust collection by increasing our air flow from the dust collector as well as try to gather the dust closer to the actual cut.
*This is designed to only work with 90° cuts.

I've used other (10" saws) previously and was pretty surprised with the speed and cutting ability of this Dewalt saw.I have bolted mine to a table to minimize movement which I highly recommend. This is a Great saw czcams.com/users/postUgkxPeGkHOMe05FySypTOvYumxMn-xi39oRe with a light to see your cutting line (not a laser line).I'd recommend this saw fro anyone looking to upgrade from a 10" miter saw.
Thank you for showing the “what didn’t work”. That’s good stuff.
Love the end result! I'm a dust collection maniac, so I'll impart a little wisdom. Craft your initial designs in cardboard using foil tape. It's a huge time saver, it saves on material cost, it's just a superior approach to creating the end templates for the winning design!
Great idea with the cardboard. I plan on testing many other things shortly, gonna have to start stocking up!
Thanks for saving our time!!
Definitely worth 3 minutes of my time to find out was doesn’t work. Appreciate you showing both.
Absolutely NO waste of my time. I have a mitre saw the same as yours; now I have a dust solution. Thank-you.
Thanks. This confirms that for me, keeping my saws outside full time is best.
Dust problem solved on the miter saw. Patent it. I'd buy one. It's amazing that after all the years that this type of saw has been around that manufacturing wizards have not invented or made available a workable dust collection system for it. I am not an expert woodworker but I at least know now where to start for my 10 inch Dewalt.
Thank you so much! I appreciate the kind words!
Good Job!!! Nice results.
I would think, by now, manufacturers could do a better job with their availabe money and CAD drawings to R&D this issue. Of coarse they would have to even care about it to begin with, which obviously this does not appear to be a priority. The few manufacturers that attempt to tackle the problem seem to always fall short.
We can put a person into outer space , but we cannot design built in dust collection created by a chop saw at the product manufacture level.
You are takeing an engineering approach, that not many do, to the age old problem.
Thank you for your effort and willingness to share with the rest of us the results.
Thank you so much for the kind words! I appreciate it. Dust collection is always intriguing to me because it seems like a lot is just guess and check to see if it works, so it can get frustrating when it doesn’t, but feels really good when it does!
so agree.
The challenge is for a "chop saw" the dust collection hurdle isn't nearly as high as for a compound sliding miter saw that has to do left and right angles and compound bevels. If you open up the face of any dust collection system enough that it allows all of those angles, it isn't nearly as efficient.
You're right, no one can have it both ways. Very impresssive, thanks for the video.
Thanks! Appreciate it.
I believe that making an initial non-through cut from back to front is preferred as it allows the sawdust a channel to escape through when making your final cut, this should also help with directing the sawdust.
Spot on! Clearly, I'm getting to the parry late, but im a subscriber now. Thanks!
Thank you! Glad you enjoyed it!
Best one I have seen it's a shame you can't do 45° cuts but I understand why ! 👍🇬🇧😁
3 mins is not a wasted at all !! Great video ! with your wesome idea ..
Thank you!
Excellent idea. I am making this for my saw today.
Thanks, let me know how it works!
Another great dust collection upgrade
I love your no nonsense, strait to the point approach to these videos 🤘 and the music is rad!!!
Thanks! I get mixed reviews on it, haha. Trying to find a happy medium to keep as many as possible happy.
@@RingsWorkshop I liked the music, but for those that don't, the volume was low enough that it can be easily ignored. So, good job! I also liked putting your failed attempt in there. I will be making one of these for my DeWalt this weekend.
Definitely like your thought process!
Thank you!
I like that you showed what worked and one that didn't. Thanks. Nice video.
Nothing wrong with a couple of minutes of showing what didn't work. Saves our time later. Great video.
Thank you!
This is perfect timing because I’ve just finished making my mitre saw bench and need a dust extraction upgrade 👍🏼
Thanks for this video. I been fighting my miter saw dust for days trying to figure a way collect the dust. I am going to try this method.
Thanks! Let me know how it works!
after watching your miter saw dust collector tool a couple times, I decided to make one for my miter saw. After I made it following your instructions it capture's about 95% of the dust when cutting. I had my miter saw on wheels stuffed back in the corner of the shop because it made a big mess all over. With your help now I'll be using it more. Thanks again for your video and ideas !!!
That’s amazing to hear! Glad it worked so well for you! Still always trying to get closer to 100%!
Really cool build.
Thanks!
4 videos, 4 great solutions! Keep the videos coming, I really enjoy seeing how you think outside of what is done by everyone else!
Thank you so much!
It is good to let us know what doesn't work as well as what works. Thanks.
really enjoy seeing your thought process. thanks for sharing your work
Great video, like to see how you problem solved through it.
Thank you!
Just subscribed. Great presentation of your designs and changes. The miter saw has been my biggest frustration when it comes to dust collection. I've watched many videos of different ideas, but most were big and bulky to accomodate the compound angle cuts. But like you, most of my cuts are straight. I have a different saw but your idea will work for me perfectly. Thanks
Thank you! Let me know how it works out if you make something similar.
Really appreciate seeing your thought process!
Thank you!
After years I found a box fan with a filter behind the saw, along with port use and zero clearance fences result in much easier dust collection. You do need, some area behind the saw itself.
Great presentation!
Thank you!
Excellent video. Love the "trial and error" method. Us non-engineering folks really appreciate that.
Thanks! Glad you enjoyed it!
I liked your thought process on designing this dust hood I also like the fact that you showed us the one that didn’t work and what you went through before coming up with a better solution this is your first video I’ve seen but I am now a subscriber keep up the good work
One more thing I like your quick connects on your hoses with the magnets that’s ingenious
Thank you very much for the feedback!
you are an excellent fabricator
I LIKE THE PROJECT GREAT JOB
Thanks!
From what I've seen so far, you have ingenious solutions to garageshop challenges. Thanks!
Thank you!
I love the way you mention that MDF dust is the worst 'cos it's really super fine ( and carcinogenic ) and then use an air hose to clear up your station!
I never claimed to be smart.
I really like having you take us through the development process. Great video.
Thank you! Glad you enjoyed it.
I like how you analyze situations and figure out the solution to solving problems, your techniques can work in other situations also, I also do metal work on a milling machine and and thinking of using a metal lathe, thanks for the info
Wow! Dust free! Like it.
I really like the approach. Keep it up!
Thanks!
I just added some dust collection to my Dewalt miter saw and now I see how you built yours.. I'm going to modify mine more to what you engineered. Thank you.
Thanks I appreciate it. Hope it works out well for you as well!
Thanx for your effort, look like is working fine. Keep on pushing the envelopes.
Thank you!
Love the process. Enjoyed seeing what you did....
I’ll admit I found you by accident and I’m 4 videos in now and love them. Thank you.
Thank you so much.
Oh yea .... Very well done !
Your attention to detail reminds me of myself. You're a very process oriented person and your work reflects that.
Definitely worthwhile to also see the failures, too often people edit those out.
Great idea to use brushes!! Love the video, learned a lot.
This is a great solution and definitely not a waste of time. I'm off to measure up my saw for this mod. Thanks~!
I absolutely appreciate your sharing of the version 1.0 process and subsequent transition to v1.1
Thanks! I appreciate the feedback.
Another great video! I like seeing your whole process. Since our shops are different, seeing what works (or doesn’t) for you helps us troubleshoot our own solutions. Your solutions are so genius! This is such an impressive channel and it’s my new favorite on YT. I can’t wait to see your other videos. Keep ‘em coming! 👍🏼
Thank you!
Nothing short of amazing. First video I've seen that does a great job of collecting dust.
Thank you!
I’m so happy I just watch this video even though it’s been up for a year. I’m just getting into woodworking and my miter saw is my worst enemy with sawdust. This will definitely help a lot. Thank you
Thanks!! Glad you enjoyed it!
The brushes are genius! Thanks for that tip.
Thanks!
Im from the DR. Love your shirt
Thank you! Been way too long since I’ve had some, but really enjoyed it.
Fantastic! I love to see the trials and tribulations of the design and fab process. That helps stimulate creativity in other projects as well. Thank you very much.
Thank you!
Love your tee!!! 1:52
I’m a big fan!
Excellent idea and result.
Thank you!
Thanks for your sound reasoning, it is as valuable as your practical solutions to common problems we all have to deal with. Keep up the good work.
Thank you!
Truly a great design and I appreciate the full story.
Thanks!
Love the shirt! My dad's a big fan of Presidente beer :)
Thank you! Hard to find where I am now, need to go to a major city normally here to get it. I went to Punta Cana a couple of times. So good.
Can’t wait for the sanding storage!!! Subscribed. Thank you for showing what doesn’t work. Been searching for an amazing mitre dust solution for a while, while building my shop.
Thank you for the feedback!
Good Review of your process, very thoughtful. Thnks!
Thank you!
Thank you for this video. Given me a few ideas about dust collection after I received a mitre saw as a present.
Thanks, glad you enjoyed it!
You would have gotten along well with Thomas Edison. You have a great learning-from-"failure" approach. Great solutions to these shop problems.
Hahaha thats awesome! Thanks!
Thanks for the innovative design. I adapted it for my miter and it works very well. Nothing like lessons learned!
That’s great to hear! Glad it worked well for you!
Amazing solution for dust collection.
Congrats
Thank you!
I purchased the plans and it works great. I use a dust collector for the side opening and a shop vacuum and I almost get no dust in my shop. Really like the videos. thanks for saving my lungs.
That’s awesome to hear! Glad it worked well for you!
I just spent an evening looking at ways to improve use of space in my shop, including your organization series. My existing miter cabinet is huge because of the huge dust cabinet I have around it. I will definitely be using this in my cabinet redesign. Great channel, I love how the reasoning process is presented in all your videos. Sub'd.
Thank you! Hope it works well for you!
Love the Presidente shirt!!! Also we’re going to try this solution to help limit dust. Great video!
Haha thank you! First one to call out the shirt, love it!!
Really a great job
Thank you!
I appreciated you showing what didn’t work and the ultimate solution. Well done I am going to try this soon. Thanks much!
Thank you! I appreciate that!
Thanks for this video, brought me precious teaching as i'm presently fighting with my miter saw 's dust collection ! Will definitively try your approach !
Thanks! Let me know how it works for you!
Awesome video, as always. And, like many others have said, I really appreciate the tidbits of information as far as what not to do just as much as learning the right way to do something. Three minutes of watching video is not wasted time when compared to wasting 3 hours of build time and wasted material. Thanks again for taking the time to film, edit and share your knowledge with us. :-)
Thank you!
BRILLIANT
It is the best option I have seen on youtube. This is how I would do my miter saw dust collector. Really good Thank you.
Thanks! Appreciate the kind words!
Awesome result - and you just gave me ideas on how to improve dust colllection on my miter saw.
Thank you! Glad you enjoyed it! Let me know how it works for you!
Excellent. Love it.
*Definitely* worth seeing what didn’t work! :-)
Great concept! Only one addition. Have a magnetic flange attached to a clean up wand handy to finish any loose debris.
This was a great video and I love it when people show the options they tried that didnt work! It saves me a lot of time! Thanks
Thank you!
Well done and gives me ideas. i like that you show what doesn't work in the last three videos I watched of your this is your normal method. I hope you keep showing us what didn't work. Your use of the brushes in the last few projects was creative and different than others solutions and could be a game changer for those areas that solid pieces just can't take care of.
Thank you so much, I appreciate it!
I like you're approach to the dust collection problem. Great job. Thanks for sharing this I enjoyed your video
Thank you!
Well done. And thanks for showing us what did not work at first as this enhanced the overall understanding of the challenge. Nice change out speed as well!
Thanks! Appreciate the feedback as well.
Yet another GREAT project Chris. I like the "make on the fly" videos as we all can learn something that might crop up on our build. Also like the outtakes at the end! !! !!! The dust hose adapters are genius toooo
Thank you so much! I’m glad you enjoyed them, those are my favorite ones to make...as long as they work out in the end haha!
That's a pretty remarkable result. Great build and video.
Thank you!!
Looks like a great solution, well thought out great design.
Thank you!
Brilliant. I will be definitely be making one soon.
Let me know how it turns out!
Of all the many videos on this topic. your solution is by far the best. I think that you have a new Makita mitre saw which has far superior dust collection helps a lot. I am developing a similar "Sawdust Trap" for my older Makita as the current products pricing makes the switch a poor trade. Also your use of bruh strips was both innovative and very helpful!
Thank you so much for the kind words, I appreciate that!
Great I’m going to try this week
you did it again ;) I definitely appreciate the problem solving part of it as it helps me figure out problems I have better and might save me a bit of time. thanks!
Thank you! I appreciate the feedback as well!
Great Job!
Thank you!
Fantastic video and great design! Thank you! Gonna use this as I make my own!
Thank you!
Fantastic job! Good, informative video! I am inspired to try to do the same to my saw. Thanks!
Thanks!
Excellent video, I have a Bosch compound miter so obviously I will have to modify the plans but over time I will make an improvement. Thanks for the ideas.
Thank you!
Yes, great job. I set up a woodshop recently since I'm retired. Of course the miter saw spread dust every where. After searching U tube many times looking at huge tents, rubber tubes and various other fixes that I wouldn't waste my time making I came across a fix that had many features the same as yours and made it. It really worked well capturing most of the chips and dust. However, today I came across your video and will be upgrading my first one incorporating your ideas. I don't care that it will only do 90 degree cuts because I use my saw stop table saw and an upgraded miter jig and get perfect cuts for fine items I cut. Nice video skills too so an excellent video. Thanks
Thanks so much, let me know how it turns out!!
It’s always great to show the dos and don’ts in a project I have the same saw and I was tired of the boot clogging up so I will be using your method thanks and of course it’s so worth a sub
Thank you! Let me know how it works out for you.
Your design is pure genius. I made a similar one to fit my DeWalt and I bet it catches 95% of the dust. Now I'm using that as a template to make one to fit when my saw is at 45 degrees. I'll send you pics when I'm done. The adhesive brushes are one of the secrets to the great design. It works way better than a giant box around the whole saw and i'm selling my big Rousseau 5000 dust shroud, I never like it much. Anyway, thanks for the video.
Thank you! Really appreciate the kind words and am looking forward to seeing what you come up with.
So you must be genius also. You Tube is crawling with geniuses.
great idea and well explained
Thanks!
