You know Dan's excited when he does a trailer breakdown 😆
Who?
I trust James Mangold to bring us a well written and well acted story. I loved what he did with Logan and with Ford v Ferrari, so I am still on board.
Yes, but don't forget, he also directed Kate & Leopold back in 2001. It also dealt with time travel, and it was a disaster of a movie.
You forget that Kennedy (the woman who killed Star Wars) was behind his neck....oh and she was fired from Disney a week ago....
He's also having the same team of writers that he worked with for Ford v Ferrari working with him on Indy 5
Disney's massive hands of destruction are gonna get all over his script and ruin it
Kathleen Kennedy and Disney have the final say.
Mangold is just a puppet
“Dial of Destiny” makes me think time travel could play into this
I really don’t think (and hope) we wont see ACTUAL time travel - But, I’m thinking we might jump back and forth between time periods throughout the film. Like seeing 2 parallel plot lines, and events that were ignited in the 40s get resolved in ‘69. I honestly would be really into that if that’s the case.
Oh boy...prepare to be disappointed. There is actual time travel...among other things.
I don't think its parallel plot lines, I think it's more the first main set piece is set in 1944/WWII and it's Indy stopping a Nazi plot, and then the rest of the film is in 1969 where we see Indy have to stop the Nazis again from recapturing what he stopped them from getting in WWII
@@69johndz And how do you know this?
@@EricTheKartoonKing Rumors, leaks, and the fact that Kathleen Kennedy is in charge and she hates male characters.
@@69johndz 😂 Jesus dude
I really hope Ke Huy Quan’s short round shows up at some point.
I feel like you'll be disappointed. Why Short Round of all people? In movie time the last time we saw them together was in Temple of Doom which is set 34 years before Dial of Destiny and he's never been mentioned since.
If Everything Everywhere All At Once came out before Indy started shooting he probably would have. Now I'm not so sure
That would be awesome! 😊
@@uosdwiSrdewoH I don't think he will appear either, but if Sallah is there, why not Short Round? Just as feasible.
If they have to go back and just do a quick post-credit scene with him and Harrison hanging out at his University, even that would be perfect
Jay Bauman mentioned it on Twitter, but CZcams's compression made this trailer very fuzzy which is a shame because I'm sure the shots look much better on screen
I feel like the fuzzy quality probably helped smooth over some of the unfinished VFX of which there seemed to be quite a few.
@@uosdwiSrdewoH I will never understand why companys release shots of footage that clearly still need work done!
@@travisspazz1624 deadlines im assuming
I’m pretty sure based on the trailer the opening of the movie mirrors Last Crusade. A much younger Indy having an adventure on train. Something happens that vaguely involves the main plot, if they’re really mirroring Last Crusade I’d bet it involves the birth of Phoebe Waller-Bridge’s character. The rest then would take place in “the present”
That's a good point! I haven't thought about that but perhaps you're on to something!
That was my first guess too
Interesting theory, i guess in that case Toby Jones would be playing her father and probably dying in that scene
I think that's what it is too. The WWII train scenes are a mission that Indy took in WWII stopping the Nazis from getting or transporting some artifact to their headquarters, and then the rest of the film is in 1969 where Indy has to stop them again.
They filmed the New York scenes in Glasgow, UK. Got to see them shooting which was cool
The title probably needs to grow on me, but I really enjoyed the trailer. Also the final scenes of the trailer is most certainly a call back to the gun vs sword scene in Raiders, which brought a smile to my face.
I believe the Empire exclusive with James Mangold and Harrison Ford confirmed that early in the film, there will be a flashback to WWII Indy on a mission, which is probably where a lot of the supposed time travel leaks came from. I'm guessing that Indy is on a mission to stop the Nazis from gaining an artifact, he succeeds and then that artifact comes back into play in 1969
Yep, all makes sense to me. Also thought that last comedic beat was a callback to that Raiders scene.
If they really are going to go the time travel route with this, I think the most "realistic and also Indiana Jonesey" way to do that would be the type of time travel where you can only sort of psychically go back into your own past self. Then you can save some de aging by having some past scenes be Indy POV shots
Either that or only at a specific moment in your life - not the entire timeline. Those are the ONLY ways, IMO, they could get away with it without going into too hard of sci-Fi territory (a la Crystal Skull).
@@titanguy7316 Yeah, that alien sci-fi junk was totally ridiculous and unbelievable. They need to go back to much more grounded stuff, like the Ark of the Covenant that contains spirits that can melt people's faces. Or a religious cult leader who can reach into a person's chest and pull out their heart while keeping the person alive long enough to be dropped into a pit of hot lava. Or a brain-washed prince who has a voodoo doll that he uses against Indy, sticking large pins in it which causes Indy sharp pains. Or what about that time the cult leader made Indy drink an elixir that caused him to be obedient to Mola Ram. That was totally believable. The 3rd movie, the Last Crusade, was the most realistic of all the Indy movies. Remember how unltra realistic it was when Indy made it to the end of the gauntlet and a knight was there defending the Holy Grail, and had been waiting there for 700 years. Oh, don't forget about the part where Indy's father is dying, so he pours water from the cup of Christ on his fatal wound, which causes it to miraculously heal.
Yeah, all those story elements were totally grounded in realism, whereas Kingdom of the Crystal Skull went crazy with its fictional aliens and Russians. I mean, who would believe such a thing? That's just silly nonsense!
I find it interesting that when he is doing the “how hard you believe it” line the lamp on the post is very much like the post he and Marion are tied to at the end of Raiders.
When I was 10, Indiana Jones was my hero. I'm now 43 and I get a new Indiana Jones movie, someone pinch me
I like your version of a trailer reaction/analysis. Great job, I hope these videos do well so you can do more of them!
I personally was hoping they would have a movie centered around Lao She. To be able to explore that would've been awesome. We get to see a bit of it at the beginning of Temple of Doom. I often wonder how that story would played out and how Indy and Lao She developed their rivalry.
The opening sequence of Temple of Doom is one of my all-time favorite openings in the history of film.
Dan, that lighting upgrade in your studio is noticeable! Good job!
Visually it looks immaculate; fantastic blend of classic sets and CG. The only wobble was Ford's face on that horse - yikes - hope it gets touched up before release.
It won’t
@@ChristianKrogh-Denmark want to bet?
When I couldn't be a jedi, I knew I only wanted to be like Indy.
If they do Time Travel, I want them to do a Days of Futures Past thing. Like you’re current body doesn’t go back in time but your current mind and soul goes back into your past body. That would make more sense for Indy and it’s a concept I love and would want to see more.
They're doing flash back, which the series has previous on.
Delighted that Thomas Kretschmann, the German equivalent of Ken Watanabe and Hiroyuki Sanada as The One Actor from a country who appears in supporting roles in 21st century Hollywood films, is in this movie.
Yes, what a perfect description!
Dan manages to be both a key part of the review community, and in a league of his own. So good to watch this trailer review.
I am totally looking forward to this! I have been waiting for this for a while Indiana Jones is one of my favorites franchises ever
Loving the new lighting ✨️
Seems like Ford had to get 'whipped' back into shape
They already confirmed that the beginning of the film starts in 1944 - could be off a few years, but the past. They want to establish Indy in his prime and then fast forward to 1969. Who knows if they will go back, but that would be cool. Also, Mangold said in an interview he really wanted this film to be about the last sunset of a hero, so spending to much time in his youth might go against the theme they are trying to sell in the story.
I just hope they don't fucking kill him
@@doodledangernoodle2517 Indy death will unfortunately happen.
@@doodledangernoodle2517 they're planning on literally killing him
@@justmemememe3354 why are you lying? The writer literally came out and said they will not kill Indy off.
The cockpit you see is from a He 111 (WW2 German Bomber) and agree...that looks like a reference to both Star Wars and maybe that light is part of a time travel sequence
The SW thing is exactly what I thought when I saw that shot.
czcams.com/video/bhzu3DcrpT8/video.html
I wasn't gonna comment on your lighting situation cause you've probably got enough of it and I'm not here for that anyway, but I must say it looks stunning here!! Great job!
Trailer Breakdown & Reactions, a new thing for this channel. I like it 😉
The Guardians trailer made me cry.
Come on. It wasn't THAT bad.
I like the necktie. Nice little tip of the hat to Last Crusade
I'm definitely stoked for the movie. I am a little bit sad that it will very likely be John Williams last score though, I will sorely miss him.
Dan Murrell at it again!!
I am **technically** Indy's seen The Ark of the Covenant, but not in the way Belloq, Toht, and Dietrich saw the Ark.
Is that Indy's hat behind Dan? Or is it a hint of an upcoming Scoops revival?
The ‘dial of destiny’ is inspired by the Antikythera mechanism. In the movie, it is probably one of the 3 bronze instruments made by Archimedes around 200BC, mentioned in the writings of Cicero.
What does it do?
It mines crypto.
@@richardschlange9629 From wikipedia: "used to predict astronomical positions and eclipses decades in advance"
I'm pretty sure it was stated in an Empire Magazine story from a week back said that the opening sequence is a flashback to an old adventure, probably in the vein of Last Crusade's opening that'll tie into the present day story. Not saying there's no time travel, but I don't think the young bits in the trailer are really from that.
Really want them to do a Short Round spinoff with John Cho
Do it with Ke Huy Quan.
I think John Cho will be involved in the Disney+ series.
Why with John Cho if Ke Huy Quan himself is acting again?
Two things bother me about the Dial of Destiny subtitle: The previous subtitles are about more than just the artifact that everyone is after; Indy isn't just searching for the Lost Ark, he's also up against the Raiders that want it for their own nefarious purposes. Also the previous artifacts have been based on existing legends, which I've always really liked.
I literally always assumed the ‘Raiders’ title suggested that Indy and his friends were the raiders, and it was a critique of mid-20th century archaeological practices. But what I wrote now makes MUCH more sense for a film title…
There were literally shots released of Indy with Phoebe Waller-Bridge surrounded by ancient Roman soldiers...so yeah, they are gonna time travel. That's why Mads Mikkelsen wants the "Dial of Destiny" to rewind time and change the course of WWII
Wasn't it confirmed that the opening mini-adventure was set during WWII and had a de-aged Ford in it? Most of the film then takes place in 1969...
Thanks Much !
Indiana Jones and the Back to the Future
🤣
Indiana jones and the power of love
Indiana Jones and the Lorraine's Density.
It is already confirmed that only the initial sequence will hace a deaged Indy. The resto of the movie will take place in 1969.
Hey Dan. I had no info about this and my assumption based on the title and the shots of "young" Harrison ford was that this is a time travel film.
I always love that Dan is rocking the Florida State gear. Go Noles!!! 🔥🔥
Time travel? It's be hilarious if Mangold is making a secret Kate & Leopold sequel.
Mangold has the early time line the adventure from start. The small adventure that kicks off the Indy movies
An interesting thing about the ‘Indiana Jones-appropriate Millennium Falcon’ scene is that it looks a lot like the cockpit of a Heinkel HE, which is a Second World War German bomber. The design of this bomber, I am confident, was an inspiration for Colin Cantwell and Ralph Macquarie when designing the original Millennium Falcon in the ‘70s. Featuring a scene inside a Heinkel may well be a nod to an iconic spaceship which was itself a nod to a Heinkel. The ouroboros of movie references.
It would be funny to see a supercut of your reactions to the trailer 😅
I almost thought Indy said “I’ve seen things you people wouldn’t believe….”
I hope it's not time travel and it's flashbacks. Looks awesome and Ford is still kicking butt and looking great at 80. Can't wait for this and hope this is the farewell that Indy Deserves.
it's 100% confirmed to be time travel by the set photos.
Thanks Dan, with this posible time travel heavy plot speculation, I've gone from cautiously optimistic... to downright terrified.
I wouldn’t want time-travel elements myself (just like I’m not interested in aliens in my Indiana Jones), but if they HAD to go that route, the only way I could seem them doing it plausibly [without messing with the world/tone established] is to either have Indy’s consciousness jump into his younger body exclusively, or he can only travel back to one specific moment in time, not all over the timeline.
"That sounds like trailer talk" Common Dan Murrell W.
*An excellent way to write off Mutt Williams.*
It'll be revealed that he got married and now has a family of his own, and he wants to be there for his child since he never had a father growing up.
Kill him off and nothing of note was lost.
He is referenced in the movie but thats it
From what I know, the film opens in 1944 with a de-aged Harrison and then jumps forward to 1969.
I really hope they make it work.
I wonder if the young(er) Indy is a flashback/prologue, a la River Phoenix’s sequence in TLC 🤔
Signs point to yes.
The date is in my phone diary. Looking forward to it 🎬
The whole first thirty seconds of that trailer had some HUGE old-school Amblin vibes especially. I’m hopeful!
Dan has such a clever analytical mind. It's almost like he's read the script. I think he's on the money with his hypothesis. The teaser trailer rocks, I can't wait. June 2023 is my birthday month too, come on😁👍
You had me at JAMES MANGOLD
I enjoyed that Cloverfield speculation.
I didn't necessarily believe the Voltron angle, but I liked the mystique that accompanied it's marketing.
I really want to be able to be excited about this movie.
Aputure MCs look great!
these were my exact thoughts about the prospects of the movie. I also feel that going down the time travel path is a cheat card and I am very curious if it's going to be just a flashback or a large chunk of the plot. Thank you, Dan :)
Did I just see the castle where Indy rescues his father in Last Crusade being blown to pieces? And the motorcycle with the sidepod.....
Seems like you're also gonna have to make a trailer breakdown for guardians of the galaxy 3 as well =D
My guess is Dial of Destiny starts in 1944 or so with younger Indy in action, and then flashes forward to 1969 for most of the story. But then Mads and the NASA nazis use the dial to affect something that happens in 1944 for the climax. So maybe we'll get a total of 30 minutes of younger Indy or so, with the two '40s sections. I'm hoping the dial is not a time machine precisely but some ancient artifact that lets the user alter something in the past (without traveling to the past themselves). So Mads using the dial in '69 gives a reason to flashback to '44 again and see the effect and the new events unfold.
That actually sounds really good! You gave me hope! Lets hope they dont kill him off and erase Indy from existence so the woman can become indy.
I’m not sure it’s time travel but I do know that they go back to raiders time and there’s a huge action scene in a castle. I think it’s just a flashback though
It'll be better than Crystal Skull. But time travel... will we see Henry Jones Sr.?
Jesus how do you edit so quickly?
I hope they add something similar to the awesome fridge scene from the last movie....
Lightning got 100% better. Good job👍
I actually thought this was a fan made trailer at first. That is how good fan made stuff has become with todays technology.
To be honest I wasn't blown away by this trailer at all, in fact was dissapointed. With that being said the only way I don't see this in a theater would be that I am dead and buried. Definitely want that teaser poster.
What I understood about "how hard you believe it" is that he doesn't believe on gods or magic, but that the will of the people that believe in them is so strong that it changes that world around them.
Yeah, that tracks for Indy.
Legit don’t know how to feel about it. I get major Crystal Skull vibes. But I DID enjoy that in theatres
Let me guess. The dial can bring Indy to any time/place in history.
The reason for the de-aging
I think the scenes in the past is going to be at the beginning of the movie like in Indiana Jones in the last crusade
so Ford(80) is playing Jones(70) in 1969, looks like the VFX computer people worked a lot of overtime to draw out those wrinkles to de-age a bit for the flash backs.
Teaser Trailer look's Awesome! I like time-travel movie's so if is in "INDY 5" not a problem for myself look forward to it!
Normally I avoid movie trailers altogether, but this one was an exception because of how bad Crystal Skull was. And boy, oh boy, am I excited about this movie! It FINALLY looks like we are getting a PROPER Indiana Jones sequel!
Time travel? Maybe but I don’t think the Mads character would die his hair black for the journey because we definitely saw 2 different hair colors.
I wonder what will happen given this technology that was a gimmick until Sam Jackson was de-aged for all of Captain Marvel. Will we see Sigourney Weaver in an Aliens follow-up, Shatner back as Kirk, or Keanu Reeves staying John Wick for ten more films?
@@AlexDaily411 Die Hard 6 before the end of the decade, guaranteed.
Indie and the whip infront of the table/guns I thought was a good call back to Raiders' scene with the show-off goon with sward and then Indie just shoots him. Right?
It's been confirmed that Ford was de-aged for some flashback scenes
Why does anybody talk about what actually matters about this film which is the people behind the camera aka the director and the writers, which are James Mangold the director of( Logan, Ford v Ferrari, Walk the Line, Heavy), Jez Butterworth writer of (Edge of Tomorrow, Ford v Ferrari, Ford v Ferrari, Black Mass), and Philip Kaufman writer of (Indiana Jones and the Raiders of the Lost Ark, The Right Stuff, The Unbearable Lightness of Being, Invasion of the Body Snatchers). In my opinion, this is a pretty solid production with the talent that they gathered, hopefully, the special effects are equally as solid.
A time travel plot allows for them to have their cake and eat it too. You can explore his age and past regrets while also getting to see a time displaced Indy in his prime fighting his ultimate signature villain: Kanye West- I mean Nazis!😜
This film looks great and Mangold behind the camera gives me INSANE confidence in this! Im of the minority that thinks Crystal Skull isn’t nearly as bad as people make it out to be BUT by comparison this looks like the franchise is back to form with much needed new blood at the helm. As wonderful as Spielberg is I think if he had relinquished direction of the franchise earlier (that gulf between Crusade & Crystal Skull for example) we could have had many more adventures with Ford as Indy. Spielbergs insistence on directing every film coupled with Lucas being his typical control freak self hampered Crystal Skull and any other entries we could have had. This could have been the capper to a second trilogy all its own.
A twenty says old Indy dies in the arms of young Indy in the 40s creating a time loop.
"I've believed in magic a few times in my life. I've seen things... things I can't explain. I've come to believe it's not so much what you believe... it's how hard you believe it."
- this sounds alot like the line from Han Solo in "The Force Awakens".
That's true. All of it.
Yeah... that sounds way more ominous after what they did to Han (and Star Wars).
Looks great. I have faith in James Mangold, a film maker I really like.
The trailer was amazing. Definitely had a classic Spielberg action-adventure flavor.
Shia surprise!
I'm really excited for Indy 5 and will be there opening weekend!
However, I did sour on it a little bit after seeing rumors from people who were pretty much correct with their rumors about Rise of Skywalker. Keep in mind that Kathleen Kennedy is in charge of both franchises (as she is the head of Lucasfilm). I don't want to spoil anything here for anyone, but Phoebe Waller-Bridge is the daughter of a character Indy deeply respected, there will be the flashback to WWII at the beginning of the film, he will time travel in the movie, it will be similar to BTTF2 and the TV show Timeless (chasing people back in time to prevent them from changing the future (aka the present), and will end similar to the movie Looper.
She is related to Brody
According to the empire article there is actually a helicopter in indy 5
YEEEEEEESSSSSSSSSSS!!!!!!!!!!
I'm so excited for a new Indiana Jones movie, I don't even care about what the plot is about. But it looks good, let's hope this one won't be disappointing.
My take-away was a confirmation of complete and total lack of interest, even if I weren’t already boycotting the Rodent House.
I'm just glad that rumors of Chris Pratt replacing him weren't true.
Indy meets Hydra? 🤣Generally I do not like time travel in most stories, if nothing else it will be fun to see Ford play Indy one more time.
This time travel thing scares me hope its good..
