ryan is big star but emily blunt? uh no.....

An interesting thing I heard in the theater for TPM was how every time Padme changed outfits it got a reaction. There was a group of little girls in front of me that kept saying "pretty" & "I love that dress". Some women about my age mentioned how they forgot how many dresses Padme had. This got me thinking about how as a kid I wanted, like, all of Padme's outfits. Maybe if Lucas Film wants girls to like Star Wars they should take some fashion advice from the prequels. Honestly, I MISS when Star Wars had fantasy outfits! I want to feel like I'm on an alien planet not like some LARPers are on screen!

I think people are just busy and going to see a movie whenever isnt the same as it used to be.

Fall guy just does not feel like a movie I would want to pay for.

3:32 I think I know the meta scene Dan referred to that lasted too long. But I laughed at the end of that sequence when Ryan Goslin's character said "we're getting hung up in exposition" - which made me feel it was definitely a meta joke on exposition in action movies. I'm assuming on rewatches it will get over-played and get annoying... But I'm the moment it made me smile.

Seen the trailer a few times at home and the theatre and it has not convinced me to watch this one. I'm saving my money for The hitman movie...even though I'm still skeptical about my ability to enjoy modern mainstream movies.... especially at the cinema.

My wife and I saw fall guy Friday night. We laughed quite often and liked the chemistry between the 2 main characters. I thought it was fun and fine, and we hooked with each other in the parking lot after about a couple of lines in the movie that made us laugh the most. My wife liked it so much that she said it's on the "buy list". I hope it gets some love from the audience.

If Rachel McAdams was in the fall guy, instead of Blunt, this would have been a smash hit 😊

I just don’t think it’s a movie people care enough about to leave their home to see. I really like both actors but I always knew I’d wait for streaming. People are tired of ironic humor movies. People want to see genuine Ernest films that take the story seriously. Which is why Openheimer and Dune 2 did so well. Everybody misses classic Hollywood where Marvel humor wasn’t injected into everything.

I'd love to see a Road to Recovery chart for the Worldwide Boxoffice. That would be fascinating

People's budgets are stretched thin and frankly, going to the movies has gotten too expensive.

Damn, what a shame. I really enjoyed The Fall Guy which I didn't expect to, as I hated Bullet Train and Deadpool 2. Was hoping for a good debut. Tarot, on the other hand, was the first time I've ever walked out of a movie in 40+ years. I have better things to do with my time than watch that bag of clichés.

A very ominous sign of things to come for the Summer box office

Deadpool ,Minions and Inside Out 2 will make big $$$ the rest will struggle a bit and i am specially worried about Twisters.

The entire fam and I went to see this opening day to kick off the summer movie season and really enjoyed it! However, I don't understand why this had to have a $130 million budget. It's almost like we're stuck in a time loop of studios setting themselves up for failure, and then blaming the audience when the movie doesn't live up to box office expectations.

I guess the keyword would be ‘80s’ TV shows? I guess if it was 60s or all TV show adaptations,, mission impossible would be on that list? I’m Just guessing.

Was ANYONE really looking forward to watching The Fall Guy? Didn't look appealing in any of the trailers even with the charismatic actors they have.

Im so happy that Star Wars Episode 1 is in the Top Five for th3 week and its 25 years old! I survived the Star Wars 24-hr marathon. I was there for the Lucasfilm Star Wars, but I stayed for all of them, which just cemented my beliefs even deeper that Star Wars is 6 movies in total...and a Holiday Special 😉.

Oof, these charts do not give me a lot of hope for a super successful summer box office. I think Furiosa and Deadpool & Wolverine will be hits, but not sure other movies will not be so lucky. Hollywood needs to get their budgets under control

Don’t get me wrong I blame studios for killing theaters and conditioning audiences to just wait for it on streaming. But I’m so exhausted of hearing regular non movie going people say they want “good” original movies and then not going to see them.

I would argue that the "summer movie season" was moving up its opening weekend a few years earlier than 2001, though not necessarily on the first weekend in May. In 1995, 1996, 1997 and 1998 it was the SECOND weekend in May which seemed to be the starting gun for summer movies, as "Crimson Tide", "Twister", "The Fifth Element" and "Deep Impact" all opened on that second weekend. In 1999 "The Mummy" opened on May's first full weekend (May 7-9), nearly two weeks before "The Phantom Menace" made its domestic bow. But I agree that since 2001, the first weekend in May has typically been the unofficial start of the blockbuster season. I don't know if you were reading the annual "summer movie preview" issue back in the 90s, but I noticed a change from 1994 in which their coverage only went from June releases onward, whereas by 1996 they were including May releases as well. (I graduated from high school in 1991, so it's a good thing that the summer movies didn't start any earlier...they would have been a huge distraction from my finals.)

Mission Impossible is a live action TV series.

This is the kind of movie they should put out in January and February, when I'm actually looking for things to do on the weekend.

I liked The Fall Guy, but you know things are bad when a re-run movie, and The Phantom Menace no less, is what took the #2 box office this weekend. The movie business is deeply hurting and if Deadpool & Wolverine doesn't take off then that may not only be the end of the MCU, but the end of the mainstream movie business entirely. A lot of people have already said this, but I think a lot of this has to do with inflation & the absurd prices of movie tickets as well as concessions. I was lucky to see The Fall Guy at a local indie theater in my town that's a full restaurant instead of just popcorn & snacks and doesn't show previews. It's a *way* better deal and experience than most chain theaters. But even then that's still a night out to a restaurant & a movie ticket, which still isn't cheap, and I thankfully have a job good enough to afford that. This isn't a luxury that most people have and are people going to go out of their way like that to see The Fall Guy? I don't think so. Hollywood is broken, both creatively as well as a business, and until it fixes how it treats its workers, stops price gouging moviegoers, and myriad other existential problems, then it's doomed to stagnate and fail.

This is the best a movie about a show that hasn't been on TV in 30 years could do. There is no great love for that show.

Please don't make The Fall Guy a referendum on the state of cinema. It's an ok movie by a somewhat mediocre director and it opened right around the same as movies like Bullet Train and The Lost City. I get that expectations were higher after the spectacular 2023 that both Gosling and Blunt just had, but it's not like the second coming of Romancing the Stone just flopped.

Might just be me, but Fall Guy seems to be trying to be Action, Comedy and Romance (I hear its got great action scenes), perhaps its not clearly targeted, or its a difficult combo to pull off.

I agree with the sentiment about the 80s TV opening sentiment, but I don't think most people knew that The Fall Guy was based on an 80s TV show, and they were solely expecting the opening based on star power

From the trailers _The Fall Guy_ looks corny; Blunt and Gosling look too botoxed and the chemistry and action sequences come off forced. Apparently others felt the same when they saw the trailers.

When more people are stuggling with higher rent, mortage repayments, food, gas etc, cutting down on going to the theatres is an easy choice, when there is so much movies and shows on streming for free.

Mission: Impossible (1996) opened at $45 million and was based on a live-action TV series.

The reviews were all over the place for Fall Guy. The day before I saw it I looked for reviews and they show snippets at the top of the search page. In order their summaries were: It's great It's OK It's awful I get why people didn't show up. They should though. If it wasn't so expensive and there weren't movies coming out on an almost weekly basis along with others I still havent' had a chance to see I'd go again. I made a rare visit over to Beyond The Trailer because it showed up in my recommendations for some reason. Grace really hated it but the comments were filled with people defending the movie. The people who go seem to like it. They just aren't showing up.

I saw someone say Fall Guy looked more like an August movie, sorta like the directors previous movie Bullet Train, and they're kinda right so maybe it wasn't the best summer kickoff choice

Just bought my ticket for The Fall Guy for tomorrow, work doesn't afford me the time to see movies on Fridays or weekends anymore

I think it can make some money. Hopefully with Kingdom of the planet of the apes coming they can both have a super healthy weekend
