- In this video I cover the Top 10 Best Display Tarantulas in the hobby, at least in my opinion. I count down my top picks based on how often the tarantula is out of its burrow in the open, looks, webbing, attitude, feeding response, etc. Who will make the cut? The Brachypelma vagans? Poecilotheria metallica? Aphonopelma chalcodes? Theraphosa stirmi? Acanthascuria geniculata? Grammastola rosea? 🖖💚🕷

Really awesome video mate :)
@@exoticseightlegsuk thank you! That means a lot. Glad you enjoyed it
My vote is seladonia and purple bloom bird eater.
Loved your list this week bro. Would have liked to see a sun tiger on the list tho
I've been arachnophobic my entire life but over the last year have fallen in love with tarantulas! Figure that one out?! I plan on getting my first T soon and it's going to be the green bottle blue! I just LOVE them!
I was also a severe arachnophobic until my grandson had me catch a huge wolf spider and ever since then I have fallen in love with spiders. I been keeping wolf spiders for a couple years now and finally got my first tarantula a month ago. I got a Mexican Red Knee Tarantula. I wish you all the happiness I received when I got her.
This comment I've heard so often in two years of getting into this hobby. I was the same way btw.
Get a NW species. Besides GBB, a Brachy, Aphonapelma or Grammostola (IOW, a "Pet Rock, or Teddy Bear T) should get you over any fear. GBB's are great, and far more interesting, but are much faster and tend to bolt. Just make sure it doesn't get away! LOL.
@@bflo1000 Thank you for your advice!
@@trinitydraco1 NP at all. YT is where I also learned a lot from. Also, check out Arachnoboards. Good luck!

16 years ago I had 13 tarantulas. I don't remember the scientific names now. They were beautiful! I miss my girls!!
that awkward moment when you live in philippines but don’t own a philippine tangerine t.
Hell yeah 😂😂
This is the best tarantula channel I know. You've put more effort with quality than any others I've seen.
Thanks a lot. I certainly try. I really wanted yo elevate the tarantula niche in CZcams to the same level of other niches. But I'm starting from scratch..just getting my first dslr and editing software about a year ago and learning as I go
@@tarantulacollective If you've only being doing this for that short of a time that's amazing! Your videos on tarantulas is what motivated me to get one. I've got a Curly hair called Carlos and I'm surprised they've all got there own personalities and funny qwerks about them. Collecting tarantulas is never about not being satisfied with the previous one, it's about enjoying the different qualities they have. The hobby's relaxing and fun, reminds me to admire nature. Elevate the niche, keep up the great content!
I would add Aphonopelma Chalchodes, they're a gorgeous color and they chill outside most of the time.
I have to agree
I have one and you're right! Its always out!
Now a top ten list "10 most beautyful T´s you never see"...
Great idea! I'm on it
Is it bc they either web heavy or are bulldozers?
My favorite thing to do with these top 10 videos is listen to the facts about the tarantula and try to guess which one your talking about before you say it. I really enjoy these videos
OMG...my Salmon got here today along with 4 others ... What have you done to me, Richard, you Deadly Tarantula Girl, Petko, Kat, Tom Moran, Dan, Spiderman, Tarantula Haven yeah...I'm RuInT LOL I Love it
Acanthoscurria geniculata! I love mine! She’s huge, always out, great feeding response and beautiful pattern. I think they would have been a good addition to the list
I love my little juvenile genic! I even named her black beauty!
Agreed mine is also like yours
I expected it to be on the list to be honest. It's a large, impressive species and mine is always out and about or doing something.
Honestly, as someone who wants to get into T collecting in the future at some point, your channel has helped me a shit ton, especially these lists going over T's that may be good for beginners, good for handling or good display ones, they all genuinely help a lot. As a plus they're tidy and give explanations on the T's that may interest me or other viewers and hey, as another plus your video quality is crisp and very pleasing to the eye, so it makes it an absolute joy to watch your videos.
So, thank you for having such a cool and rather underrated channel dude keep it up!
Did you get some T's, hope so.
I just adore mine xx
A. geniculata and the OBT must be on this list.
Yes!!! The A.gen is one of the very best - never hides (here), huge body and fangs, and the markings on the legs
came to the comments to say A.geniculata. Looks fantastic, impressive size and mine is super curious, always calmly comes to the front of it's tank to watch people watching it which is a bit of crowd pleaser for those who are curious about them. Absolutely a pleasure to own, even when it goes mental over it's dinner, chews up everything I put in the tank and fights me for the water bowl.
A. Geniculata should have had a spot for sure. Am I the only one that let's my spooders out for strolls outside of their enclosure?
Barbara van Eldijk Bouwens not to mention that they have a black hole for a stomach.
My OBT allways hides? Ive had several of them and still have 3 atm. No display specie
I don’t have any spiders but I am really enjoying your videos.
Im from the philippines, thanks for the shout out to all filipino tarantula keeper,😊😊,,
You should do a complete collection show of your collection which seems to be epic and you are displaying them very nicely.
Thanks! I did one last year, but it is probably high time to do a follow up.
You can the last collection tour here: czcams.com/play/PLjBrtja7Q8uhkqOC0G9HTMYJI3Rz4tMkt.html
No such thing as too many grammostolas. This genus probably the best combination of least fuss + most viewing.
I feel like the Venezuelan Sun Tiger should have been on this list. Or maybe just as an honorable mention. They're absolutely stunning in my opinion.
A. geniculata, as mentioned, might be one I'd pick over a grammastola, but that's a personal preference. They're both very revered in the hobby. I think pink zebra beauties would be an honorable mention as well. I knew T. Stirmi would take the cake at #1, once you really get a good look at them and a beautiful set up they almost look like they're covered in velvet or suede. It's breathtaking.
Im a newbee only started this month and bought 3 sling a chaco golden knee, mexican fireleg, salmon pink birdeater and a 3 inches OBT so happy 3 of them is in this video but the OBT 😊. Please keep inspiring love your videos
Great first T's! Check out the Facebook group too!
Mabelle Mingote how is the salmon bird eater? I’m thinking of getting one also were did you get yours?
This footage is incredible. I’m sure the videos doesn’t beat seeing these creatures in person.
It’s probably better than in person, since we’d need magnifying glasses to see so much detail in person. But I’d like to see them in person because I want to hold some of the friendly ones. 😆
This is the 5th video I watched here at Tarantula Tuesday. I badly want to have a beginner tarantula after this ECQ. 😭
Future tarantula keeper. 🙏
Picked up my very first T today, a 1” GBB. Thank you for all your awesome vids and the positivity you bring to the hobby.
In today’s society I get the pressure to always be visible. Like when I don’t post, people act like I don’t exist. Tarantulas teach me that even when I’m in my burrow, I’m still here and gorgeous 🥰
Xenesthis Immanis is also gorgeous... those Neon Purple Patterns on the Velvet Black.... *chef kiss*
No.7 is ❤ PROUD TO BE FILIPINO!
THANKYOU FOR SHARING THIS VIDEO
THIS IS VERY INFORMATIVE
#TARANTULA COLLECTIVE
I am all about display tarantulas. I love Tarantulas and by golly I want everyone that visits my house to enjoy the beauty of this spider too . So I try to buy the ones that are noted for NOT being pet holes. I don’t want people to think I’m some crazy guy who collects dirt. I love the Brachypelmas. Glad they made the list 😁 thanks Richard!
LoL...are you calling me crazy? I have a lot of enclosures that appear to just be dirt with a hole. .lol
Even if Ts do go down into their burrows it will also be because they are getting ready to molt and they need to have privacy and safety. My Curly Hair used to be more out and about and very active, but now she's in her cork bark cabin(aka hide, cave) and she's closed up shop lol. its clear she is preparing for her premolt. I been learning about the premolt signs from FB T groups and of course through youtube channels on T husbandry. So the only time she will hide is when she has a premolt coming up and wants some privacy. Thats my girl! :) doing what Ts do best. And before then, using macro lens on my iphone to take some photos of her is absolute amazing!! Curlys have got gorgeous fine hairs that make macro lens soo fun to have and use! All the details are awesome! So when out and about, Curlys are my top fav display buddy :))
Yeahhhhhh man!!! I called it from the start. Just sheer size is a winner 👍🏻 too man
anyone else think of LOTR with the new intro? No? just me? lol It's awesome!
I thought it had a very Harry Potter vibe
It was decidedly EPIC lol
I was thinking final fantasy 8
LOTR??
@@fern_gully lord of the rings!
I was surprised with #7. Of course we have tarantulas here in the Philippines, why wouldn't there be? Now I can't stop thinking about it. 😨 Phobia aside, I hope hobbyists who love these animals could help with preserving some of the species that are vulnerable or endangered in the wild. Most countries, including the Philippines, don't exactly have ample time and budget for wildlife preservation so maybe the passionate people with the means can provide help with the solution. Cool of you to shout out your Filipino viewers 🇵🇭. Great job on this video and thank you for the great content!
watching here from philippines, Thank you for adding Phil. tangerine on your list. 😊
My pleasure!!
Nakaka proud diba 😊
You videos are so great your lighting audio and production in general is top notch!
Wow, thank you!
I love when some of the more "boring" colored tarantulas with less bright colors make the list- I like to appreciate the simple beauty of the spider sometimes, and especially with how they are a lot more sociable. My Brachypelma hamorii is ALWAYS out and walking around, I've had him for 11 years (He's so old for a male!) since he was a sling and I just love watching him walk all around the enclosure.
I am so happy that you said green bottle blue was number 2! I'm getting that little guy. So beautiful.
People will comment for one T over another, but really was just a good overall opinion based vid. Enjoyed! I like the brachypelma emilia over the Smithi personally.
OBT for sure. When you have one that hangs out they are the one you show to company first.
My Brachypelma Albopilosum is out all day chillin waiting for a haircut that is never going to happen. Beautiful !!!
😂🤣😀😅🤪
Too bad it's not classified as a brachypelma anymore but I have one and he's in premolt right now
#1 Brachypelma Vagans Common but Good
i just started getting into arachnids and invertebrates and i never thought id want to own a tarantula until i saw your top 10 dwarf species video. now i might want a big one one day
Yep! You got it! Your fav is my fav too!!
I dont have many tarantulas yet, but I think my Metallic Pinktoe is a great display tarantula. He is in an exo-terra enclosure, which has a leafy jungle backdrop, and a few sticks, rocks and plants to climb on. Though he normally wont and just stays splayed out on the glass or walking on the glass. Which is cool and a bit creepy to see a large spider just walking around on a glass door. He doesn't move a lot but he does seem to like staying out on the glass and on display which shocks a lot of my friends when they see a huge spider just chillin out there. Plus its cool to see his underside and those fangs he has.
I actually pretty much agreed with this list. Maybe not the G. pulchripes because mine just HIDES! Lolol. Hopefully once it's bigger I can see its beauty!
My GBB is always a crowd pleaser. 😍😍😍
Nice job, as always!
PS: My 4 year old didn't understand why you weren't saying hi back! 😂🤣😂🤣
"Mommy, why doesn't he say hi to Cae Cae? I love his spiders."
That's hillarious! Tell Cae Cae I said "hello"! I am sure your Chaco will be out a lot once it puts on some size!
clicking that thumbs up because of the shoutout to ph hahhaahaha
I would've picked the A. geniculata as number one. I have never seen an A. genic of any size use a hide or make a burrow. Mine even molt right out in the open. It's the only species I can count on to be out and about to show off to visitors, and it's always down for a feeding performance, too. (I just wish I could clean their water bowls without getting attacked, haha.)
Unfortunately, my C. elegans is almost always in her burrow and doesn't like coming out. Same with my C. versicolor. :(
That is a bummer. I really missed the boat on the Acanthoscurria, mine are always out a lot. And I have SOOOOOOO much footage of them...really could've saved a lot of time shooting had I added them to the list. Lol
A geniculata are so gorgeous. It was the first species that my spouse fell in love with.
I have an A.geniculata that runs for his hide any time you get close to the habitat. He's a bit of a weird on though. First 3 months I had him he wouldn't eat live prey, was terrified if it moved and would run laps trying to get away from it
yep thats what I thought too my AG is always sitting out and so beautiful one of my first spiders I got and still totally one of my favourites. she liked to burrow and hide as a sling/juvie ofc but after about 10cm wide she never went underground again and very highly feratious too I have to be careful not to overfeed her bcus she is a little piglet and will always always eat and she did get super fat a couple of moults ago 🐖🐖😂
Mine burrows off and on. Kind of a pet rock tbh.
Out of the top ten, I have five and today we just got our second juvenile B. Hamorii, but I think she might be a smithi! Looking at the two side by side, there are definite differences. Poor thing was not properly cared for. She looked stressed but is now very comfortable and at only 2.5 inches, she's already a gorgeous display T! Thank you, Richard. I love your channel.
Thank you! And thank you so much for watching!
As soon as u said pink I knew! That tarantula has rose gold rings on its legs it so beautiful!
I was lucky enough to get a burgundy goliath Bird Eater today. So damn happy. 4th T. She'll be spoiled since it isn't my first Chilean Rosea.
Nice choice of epic music in the background. Tracks from epic score, sonic symphony, really slow motion and of course, two steps from hell take the visuals to another level.
I know you had a lot of Brachypelmas on the list but I would've loved the see B. Albopilosum. They're just the biggest, fluffiest ts and look so damn pretty.
I know I thought the same!!!! Mine is out 100% of the time now that she's an adult, and just so fluffy! I love too she has a rose gold sheen on those hairs too
My adult T. albo is a great display fuzzball. she'll even just fold her legs in trying to be small out in the open, won't use a hide. definitely a great conversation piece
My girl Nefertiti a curly hair is out of the time.absolutely love her.also my bolt,my pink toe.planning on getting the carribena versicolor eventually and a Arizona Blonde
Love to get a carribena versicolor. Not sure how hard it will be to find one..im surprised you didn't meantion a OBT.i know its a old world and very defensive and aggressive but It's orange color is beautiful. Love to get a Arizona Blonde and a Brazilian Black Pulchra and a Green Bottle Blue Im surprised you didn't meantion a Blue Fang.
Im a newbie in the hobby from the philippines and have some t's like the golden knee, albo hondu, but i have this one tarantula which is a burrower that is always out and keeps on waving at me no matter if it is night time or daytime.. My davus pentaloris.. Soo beautiful and vibrant, those black and orangey tiger stripes are amusing, a little bit skittish but a monster when it comes to feeding..
Cant stop watching your vids 😍 but the geni should really be on this list!
Yeah..you are right. I actually had it and the Nhandu mentioned as an honorable mention but ended up cutting it out bc I needed to make the video a little shorter. You're right though...it is definitely a great display t

My P Canceredes is out of its burrow most of the time and that thing never stops eating,it's just a sling though.
Another great vid as usual, my vote goes to my A Genic !
I dont have one yet. It's on the list for sure though lol
I fully agree with your number 1 tarantula 😍😍😍i recently bought a baby and now I’m just waiting for it become a the size of my hands to watch its beauty.
I got a Grammostola Pulchra like a year ago (as Sling), he's like "f*ck you don't look at me!" everytime hiding... Hopefully it changes when he gets older.
Been subscribed to you for a while, and was going through some of your older stuff. You're doing great man, awesome T videos and great content, we can tell how much hard work you put into making them, keep it up!
Awww i was expecting to see Acanthoscurria geniculata in the list
That species and the Nhandu were on the short list, but I ended up not putting them on the final cut.
Awsome
Thanks!
I cannot believe that you left the Chilean rose tarantula off your 10 best display tarantulas list! A lady I used to babysit for many moons ago had a female one named SNACK ATTACK which she later re-named DEMENTIA at my suggestion!!!!!
You never disappoint! Another great video👍
I totally agree with the gramastala Pulchripes and the Harpactira Pulchripes! They are super chill, always out on top of the web, and I also agree with the LP, its ALWAYS OUT, but shes SO MEAN!!😂
Philippines represents! Philippine Tangerine Tarantula ❤️

Great video as always bro. Killing these T Tuesday videos. It’s one of the highlights of my week. First thing I did after work today
Personal favorite all around is the Grammostola Porteri! My Rosie was always out and about. Was so chill shes still the only T to this day i wouldnt think twice to let her out and even pet her a little. I even rubbed her fangs after she hardened from a molt. Keep in mind this was about 20 years ago when we didn't have all the great info you and other content makers/discords we can learn from! Also I like your choices Although I want a pink foot goliath for my #1 ;)

This was good but tbh I prefer the purple pink toe or Ecuadorian purple arboreal Avics cuz they’re just STUNNING and they’re out just as much as the Versicolor 💜
I love your knowledge and tarantulas and your knowledge of human interaction via opinions. The way you understand comments is just really neat. Nice youtube page. Goodluck on your collection. I play runescape while watching all your videos. I love this.

im going to the pomona reptile super show in a 4 days and im so excited! im going there to get more t’s for my collection and this definitely helped. thank you!
A. Geniculata is probably one of my top display ts but as my golden knee was was my first ever tarantula and watched him grow from small juvie to full grown adult that was always out and looking gorgeous, that species definitely has a place there too
awesome videos keep these coming! I just recently got into the hobby a few months ago and currently have 3 sub adults and 3 slings all bought from pet expos and a local exotic pet store. Plan on growing my collection in the future. I used to be scared of spiders for no reason now I think they're awesome and adorable lol
Love that the GBB took second place! It is my favorite of my collection!
