If I wasn't legally obligated to give a refund, I'd automatically withhold it if someone brought a cop. There is no situation the police can't make worse, and all it would take for the cop to have a fragile ego and/or a poor grasp of the law for a situation to turn violent or deadly.
Of course, if you're scamming someone for less than $200, you clearly have a tenuous grasp of risk/reward analysis.

My niece had meningitis and encephalitis, as well. It was so scary…we were lucky that she made it, but also had some long term brain injury issues.
My son as an infant had a minor case of it (swelling on the outside layer more than inside the brain) and it was terrifying. He's fine now and no lasting effects but my heart goes out to anyone dealing with this.

This may actually qualify as wire fraud. She should contact the GA attorney general’s office and speak to someone there, file a complaint. If all her victims did that the state might investigate.
I have heard of encephalitis. A journalist wrote about her experience with it. Brain on Fire, it’s also a movie.
It is wire fraud and she doesn't have to contact the attorney general of Georgia. It's considered interstate commerce, she can file the lawsuit at her local courthouse and have the attorney general of her own state investigate. You are not required to do anything outside of your state when it comes to federal law.

As someone who grew-up in the Atlanta Suburbs years ago, bringing a cop for a refund is SMART. Girl covered her butt properly and more than likely prevent herself harm. Atlanta people just don't play around for anything, especially if they are in the wrong. I got out as soon as I could and never looked back.
I was thinking that just having friends in Atlanta. Normally I'm not one to involve cops but I don't blame her! Besides this woman was already acting weird, you never know how strange a turn sht can take with people so willfully awful.

Even if there is a “no refund” policy, she didn’t send the product so the ‘contract’ was not fulfilled on her part and it’s null and void. Case in point, she owes her her money.
no refund policies are basically ignored by the law. if someone doesn't supply the product there is no option B. they must refund.
“No refund policies” are for people who will do things like buy a dress, wear it, then try to return it (even though there is nothing wrong with it) for a full refund, even though it’s clearly been worn and cannot be resold. “No refund policy” wouldn’t apply however if that dress was faulty and the seams unraveled or something, as that is covered under consumer warranty protections that expect that a product will be fit for use. So if a company just doesn’t send a product, then cannot try to say “no refunds” as they haven’t actually sent out the product that needs to be refunded in the first place, and with proof that they did not send out the paid for item, you can get the police or consumer protection group involved, though a lot of the time just going to a news station seems to be a better way to get issues like this sorted out.
To all the scammers this should be a warning. Some people will track you down and confront you and the adverse attention will cost you sooo much more than the initial money grab. Good on this young woman for standing up for principles.
What I don’t understand is how the scammers don’t realize that eventually someone is going to expose them. If you do your business via Instagram DMs that are easily screenshottable then you are literally giving people proof in writing that you’re full of shit and it’s only a matter of time before you get aired out

Too often, scammers get off by rebranding. This is mail fraud and that scammer need to be put behind bars.
Report her to the attorney general out of the state she is operating. They usually gave consumer assistance forms. Reporting to the BBB is helpful to other consumers, but the BBB unlike the attorney general have no teeth in affecting their operations. Attorney generals can and will shut down this busy, especially if this is a consistent and willful practice. You can request that the opposing side pay your court filing fees but the awkwardness is that it’s out of state.
She is so poised through it all. Kudos to staying civil.

I had encephalitis in 2018, it came out of nowhere so i thought it was a migraine and within hours the swelling in my brain and spinal cord had me screaming at the top of my lungs in the worst pain I think I’ve ever felt. Thankfully I had literally just arrived in town to visit my mom from out of state and so she was there to insist we drive to the ER, but even then the nurses kept saying I had the flu and tried to send me home while I was curled over screaming. Thankfully the radiologist clocked in soon after and quickly did a spinal tap and was able to get me on the right meds to take the swelling down. I spent about a week in the hospital recovering and the radiologist told me I was lucky to be alive and he said that he only knew what to do so fast because his son had it a couple years prior and suffered severe memory loss and muscle movement. I’m so sorry to hear about your friend and I’m thankful that you are raising money and spreading awareness about this issue in his honor; it can happen to anyone and it comes fast and people really don’t know what to look for when it does. The thing is, a small business owner who was actually going through some personal issues would at the least offer a discount, apologize profusely, and send the shit immediately. It’s clear she had no intentions of sending that hair or a refund.

Honestly the best thing that she could is to report this woman to the Cosmetology board or whatever similar entity that exists that licenses Cosmetologists/Hair Stylists/Estheticians. A licensing agency/board will take complaints and can reprimand her all the way to pulling her license.
That’s the best way to maybe have some sort of justice for this situation.

This is Wire Fraud. It’s not like the Indian/African scammers from overseas, this is actually something prosecutable. Every single customer who didn’t get their order needs to contact the Atlanta Police Department and have them open an investigation. And because it involves multiple states and fraud, it will probably get pushed up to the Federal level. Sounds like she needs a good dose of reality. Afterall, you reap what you sow 🤷🏽♀️

Thank you for helping that organization, I was genuinely shocked to hear it because it doesn’t get mentioned often. I would certainly take her to court, the principal of some matters are always worth it. Civil court cost roughly $150-200 dollars and the loosing party has to pay the court fees. I’d drag her all through ATL courts. She needs to be taught a lesson. Periodt

Encephalitis is super dangerous and extremely common so I'm going to do my best to donate if I remember on payday. It's actually one of the conditions that got me super interested in illness and medical conditions because it was bonkers to me that our bodies just ...do stuff like that. And we definitely need more research and awareness about it in my opinion.
