Leaking from electronic connector.
Replacement part # A2035400253, Pilot Bushing. $22.
Enjoy. - Auta a dopravní prostředky
Thanks for the great video!
The 7mm screw in the pilot bushing needs to be tightened down to 2.5nm, hope that helps anyone watching this.
Just a heads up to anyone who finds this video. First, to be clear, this guy's video's are great. However one thing I would have at least mentioned is the electric conductor plate. For this repair in the video, I'm sure the TCM harness connector replacement worked just fine, especially if you are just wanting to get running again. Shorts in this connector from fluid in the housing can cause all sorts of shifting problems, including "Limp mode" ( won't shift/stuck in second only, high rpm, etc"
If you are doing this repair, you may want to also consider doing the electronic conductor plate I mentioned above. It can be found online, usually including the "pilot bushing", for $120-$200, genuine Mercedes. As you have to drop the trans pan, drain, and pull the TCM wire and remove the connector, all that is left to do is remove the valve body, and there's the conductor plate. Replace it, and most likely you will never need to open your trans again except to do a fluid exchange many tens of thousands of miles latter.
The connector, the conductor plate, and the wiring connector in the gear shifter housing are the 3 most common causes of Limp Mode on the 722.6 NAG 1 transmission.
I know that's not the point of this video, but to those who may be looking for the source of leaking AND trans problems, might as well do the other repair.
John Swanger explain to me how you stop oil going up the wires? what seals the pins around the plastic housing? won't oil go up the new connector
Hi, thanks for the comments, can you tell me what the difference is between the "connector" and the "wiring connector" you mentioned? Thanks
@@frontlinemedia4270 Ok there is an O ring also on the electrical plug on wire harness, right - the one he said MB said could stay. (PS Prob bad advice it should also be changed !)
Ok so that whole connection DOES have ATF oil in it, but NONE should go past wire Harness socket plug onto wires themselves.
To verify, pull medal heat shield, then carefully pop off that little black plastic wire / socket cover - if there is ATF on that side of socket then you have failed O-rings & should change whole socket out.
Your confusion is completely justified - it wasn't clear until he popped off the black wire cover, exposing the "should be dry" side of wires.
I'm not a fan of "Fixing what ain't broke" so if my wire harness plug is dry there, I'm NOT digging in further...
I came looking for this exact comment, you know your mercs well my friend.
My 09 charger only has 106k and the fluid is pretty good. 4th and 5th gear Acts up 60% of the time usually when going 40mph on a slope. I'm assuming this could be the culprit? I do not believe I see any transmission fluid leaking from anywere
By far one of the best DIY videos I've ever seen. I have to change this similar plug on my 300c, which if not mistaken; also uses a 5 speed Mercedes transmission (trust me I'm no mechanic). Thank you so much for doing this, really made my day!!!
Excellent documentation and video, sir. Thank you.
Caution: there are several pins on the conductor plate itself that must not be bent or the adapter and the wiring harness plug will break one off. Then you will need a new conductor plate. Take care to spray clean the crap out of the wiring plug "grooves" that the white plastic retaining ring rides in. If super clean from debris, it will plug in as smooth as butter, you may choose to slightly lube the o-rings and then you will not need to "push really hard" and possibly damage your pins on the TCP. Obviously make sure the transmission housing is super clean so the o-rings make the proper seal. Ive had to repeat these steps several times to fix my leak on a 2006 Jeep Grand Cherokee Laredo sport. 3.7L v-6.
Great video - thanks for taking the time to step through it carefully - I appreciate it!
thanks for the help,
Installing the part on my 2000 clk430 was very tricky, much less room than in the video.
Great job on this video. I will use it to replace my connector. Thank You from Michigan, U.S.A.!
great video, well explained, clear viewing and easy to follow. many thanks.

very very helpful vid, have this exact problem on Jeep Commander, Many thanks!
Thank you for watching !
brilliant instructions many thanks
Mr Diesel Mercedes...your videos are extremely well done and helpful. I have a USA 1998 Benz C280 with the 722.6 The automatic trans is stuck in first or second gear. I am not sure if this is limp mode or not. But I cannot go over 30 mph without the tach running up to 4000 or 4500 rpm's. I removed the valve body and replaced the Conductor Plate with a German OE style version. I did not test any of the shift solenoids. I also replaced the Connector. I just purchased this car, and noticed trans. oil had managed to flow uphill on the wiring harness that runs from the connector and plug up into the passenger side foot well and coated the wires, and also put some fluid into the Transmission Control Module. I have some electronic cleaner, but did not spray it into the plug which pushes into the connector. I did spray cleaner into the plugs which plug into the TCM. I carefully opened the TCM and noted there is trans. fluid residue and small drops inside my TCM. I wiped it off. After all this, my car still won't shift out of first or second gear (whichever it is stuck in). I have tried to shift it manually, but it won't. My check engine light yields code P0715 (Input/Turbine Speed Sensor A Circuit) This speed sensor is part of the Conductor Plate I replaced above the valve body, I believe. I wonder if my TCM is contaminated, or the harness that plugs into the TCM is bad also due to trans. fluid? Someone told me I should be looking at the Gear Selector Switch or Shift Micro Switch, which is part of the Auto Trans. Shift Lever. In the USA, this part is normally called a Neutral Safety Switch. Drinks and liquids can easily fall into the shifter and short out this Shift micro switch on these cars. I wonder if you have suggestions on what direction I should try next ?? THANKS
Jon did you ever figure out the problem cause I'm experiencing the same problem in my 01 ML350 all wheel drive SUV and I'm afraid I am going to f*** it up if I keep driving it
Jon: there are 6-different Solenoids plugs-into the Conductor Plate. Therefore, as soon as oil flood going into the wiring pins of the connector it shorts the pins (Stupid so called German design) so without any fuse involved it may damage the solenoid and even if you change the Conductor Plate the bad solenoid is still causing your limp-mode.
Very good video and easy. Thank you
Excellent video thank you.
dude you are awesome. subscribed as of right now. thank you!
you are welcome...
Verry good Video! Thank you!
awesome thank you. Great video I am a fan now.
+Gerry Espinoza Cool, thanks...
excellent description - sehr gut !!!
ja, ja, danke....
Can you tell me bed time stories please? I love your voice.
Great intro and video help me totally.
awesome....
Thanks very good info.i just love this kind of video
you are welcome....thanks for watching.
you have to drain fluid, otherwise it will spill all over you … i did replace fluid and filter, because fluid was dirty …..thanks.
Do you know if a leaking connector causes the gearbox not to work, when I stop at lights it won't pull off again like it can't select the gear and just revs?
@@dwaynebayes6296 did you find the solution to this?
Thanks for the video!
IT COST 22$ ONLY
. AND THANKS FOR VIDEO .
Nice video.greetings
Great video, helped me a lot, Thanx.
you are welcome...
Great job making this video , useful, easy to see & understand.
Comment from John Swanger also makes appropriate informative addition...👍
Reminder to all first time DIYers
ALWAYS start from simple fixes like this 13 pin connector replacement first👆(them are also less expensive typically )
i want to know what seals the electrical prongs? to keep oil from going up the wire. maybe i need a schematic to understand the oil movement
Thanks you very good job 👍
thanks Vikram.... can this be done with the sump on the gearbox?
I have a question. Can this lead to rough occasional shifting? When I let off the gas on my MB at like 45 and reduce my speed to like 30 then get back on the gas the transmission clunks as it seems to get confused.
Thank you great clear filming
you are welcome..it's always hard underneath the vehicle...
Just a Heads-up.... Guys if you do not have proper space and proper tools and proper jack DO NOT just the jack the car up and try changing this Transmission Connector. You must provide your win-number to MB dealer to get the right plug part number and it is not like just buy the MB original connector from eBay as we did. In our case it took us 20 minutes just to unplug the connector and 40-minuted to put the 7-milimeter socket on a tiny 7-mm screw inside of the big connector and it was very frustrating-- These people don't tell you how much time they spent, nothing on this connector goes right and easy to pull it out and is not that easy as this person is explaining YOU NEED TO SPRAY CLEAN it before touching it. I helped my friend's car and we spent Saturday and Sunday to get this job done and there were still tons of oil in the connector after started the engine. New O-Ring on new connector was too fat to get in and there was no space for hand to push it hard to get in with hand as this person is explaining and if you hammer it you may break the pins inside and it is a very costly damage so we put the old smaller O-RIng back and pushed it in. So be very careful doing this job yourself; if you have few hundred dollars it would worth it to have a mechanic shop to do it for you believe me.
it was helping me..... thanks....!
you are welcome....
Muy buen vídeo el mejor en la red
Thank you so very much.
Rigel Martinez you are welcome….
i have a rexton with this gearbox and it has an unknown leak, i THINK its gearbox oil but its dripping off the fuel tank. can that connector leak onto the tank or is it too far forward for that?
Veri nice nr one mercedes
Will the same tools used here work on a 2002 s500 Mercedes?
Hi. Thank you very much. Do you think i can change the connector without draining the fluid ?
thanks for the info.....
you are welcome....
If I have a 2004 e320cdi with the 5g gearbox would a new gearbox or conductor plate need to be coded on this car if I swapped it
Hi!
My R129 wouldn’t go into manual shifting at all. It shifts perfect from Park to Reverse, Neutral or Drive but when I want to engage Manual shifting (first gear down being 4th) it would not move. Any suggestions? Thank you!
Check TCM for fluid wick. Fluid will travel up the wire and into the module and connector. If the module still works, it can be opened and PCB and case cleaned with electronics cleaner. Also take cover off connectors and clean pins.
Excellent video, super clear and educational. thanks for sharing !, May this be the reason for a transmission gets into "Limp" mode? due to oil inside the contacts?
possibly...
Thank you!! I made sure to subscribe too!!
Patrick Grier excellent !
I'm having trouble getting the center bolt to get a bite of the threads and tighten. I believe the O-rings have slid all the way in correctly. I'm working at an awkward 90 degree angle with terrible access and little room to maneuver.
GREAT TUTORIAL! I CHANGED MINE AND THEN CLEARED THE CODE WITH MY CHEAPER SCANNER AND IT WAS STILL IN LIMP MODE. TOOK IT TO MERCEDES AND THEY CHECKED THE CONNECTOR AND CLEANED IT BETTER THEN I DID I GUESS AND THEY DELETED THE CODE AND CAR RAN GREAT FOR THE DAY BUT NOW ITS BACK IN LIMP MODE WITH THE SAME CODE. I CHECKED THE CONNECTOR TO SEE IF MAYBE IT WAS LEAKING AGAIN BUT IT WASNT. ANY INFO ON WHAT MY NEXT STEP SHOULD BE?
What if the fluid went up into the wiring harness? How do I find the harness section where these wires go to? I have been trying to follow mine (2004 CLK500) and cant find the other end of the harness to be sure no fluid came up into the harness.
This is a great video, however, there is another electronic connection on the back side of the transmission that NO ONE is talking about. What is it, and how does one fix that one if it is leaking?
Is enough lose drain plug for change this connector?
very good thanks
+vikram patel you are welcome...
do you have to drain the fluid to do this job?
Is it nessesary to drain fluid and remove pan for this connector change? Thanks!
No
My brother does this mechatronics plug socket have to do with the transmission performance
Sir, I need your help. I have w211. Whenever i press the shifter override button. The transmission fluid starta leaking. Can you put some insight ?
SUPER!!! Th.
Hallo nice video can i change thet part without flushing oil from gear box?
thank you
you are welcome...
i already have the connector plug i bought one bottle of trans fluid do you recommend to change all the fluid an filter mines not having any shifting problems just doing preventive maintenance also if i do both those things will i have problems later on?
mine didn't have a magnet weird car now pulls faster i had a leak when filling it back up i got stressed so i bought a bottle of bluedevil drove the car around zero leaks afterwards
Can you do the replacement without dropping the pan?
No oil on the new orings?
Great video! Can I replace the electronic connector without pulling the pan and gasket?
Yes.
i want to know where is the mercedes output shaft speed sensor place :( pls help me !
In front of the moter by the cam
I tried to remove the 13 pin connector pilot bushing and after losing the 7 mm bolt it was like glued there, there was no way to take it off. I was afraid to damage something, so I cleaned it and put everything back. Is this normal? it takes a lot of work to take it out when is an old vehicle? thanks
Great video thanks . Do you have to drain the transmission fluid before starting to take the connector off
no you dont have to but you will lose maybe a litre of atf out of the hole once you remove the connector from the housing
A liter! That's a lot! Other videos say 100cc @@spoid54
Hi, can you tell me the part number of the connector you moved out at 2:29? I need this red o-ring, which is visible at that moment of your movie.
I can't.....your dealer will
İ replaced new plug but nut has broken
Plug is tight.is there any problem if i have no nut?
hi i have clk270 and mechanic told me to change the electric connector plus the wires but the oil is all over on the bottom not only there where is the connector anyway gearbox is changing gears properly no warning lights on the dashboard so im a little confuse any idea?
+tony montana This is a great video for understanding one source of leaking fluids, and for most Mercedes 722.6 transmissions this is the fix, but for some older vehicles there can be multiple leak sources resulting in the entire bottom of the car covered in transmission fluid. I advise you to prepare to address multiple leak sources at once, and while you are working on it also replace the conductor plate and filter. Transmission work is really difficult, unless you can remove the transmission and perform all repairs on a well-lit workbench. Good luck.
Boris where are you located?
This video is awesome. Lighting and your explanations are fantastic. My friends 2001 E320 is slipping after about a mile of driving. I have to turn off the engine. wait a few minutes. And then get it back home. Does anyone know what these symptoms are? I just had the transmission rebuilt a year ago. Any info would be great! Thank you everyone.
camshaft sensor dude
hi sir i appreciate your video about the transmission touble,,i have a 2006 chrysler 300,the problem is during the when shifting to the 2nd gear, its like boog while they shift, you have solution about this trouble?
Yeap ! Scrap it.
Could have mentioned that the sump was removed. Sheesh.
Guys I have a problem, misused the funel.and dumped about 1qrt of transmission fluid in the ground but I cannot tell how much. I have the dip stick but when I insert it it appears as if the pan is overfilled
I notice you only use a regular ratchet to tide the screws. Does a torque meter is necessary? And if it is necessary. How much pounds per screw.
Thanks .
+ed MAC It is a plastic nut. My experience is snug. Do not over tighten.
2.5 nm torque.
can this be done without removing the fluid pan and fluid?
yes, but fluid will pour out….
does this work on the E430 MODEL ALL OF A SUDDEN MY CAR WONT SHIFT INTO GEAR WHEN I DRIVE THE RPM METER JUST CLIMBS NEVER SHIFTING I CANT TELL WEATHER IM IN DRIVE THE PIXEL BOX STOPPED WORKING AS WELL I CANT SHIFT INTO REVERSE WITH OUT TAKING MY FOOT OFF THE BRAKE PEDDLE ... I DID THE TRANSMISSION RESET IT DIDNT HELP BUT MY CAR WAS JUST FINE ABOUT A WEEK AGO NO PROBLEMS AT ALL ....SMH ...PLEASE HELP
You need a new transmission. It's broken
I been looking for the transmission speed sensor and can't seem to find it ..
Luis Barrera speed sensor is on the conductor plate
Mine won’t go in and the screw on the new connector is shorter than my old one
my w202 c230 went into limp now it wont shift. ran codes and of came back as speed idle malfunction and tcm malfunction. so will I only need to just replace the connector or will I need to do a full connector plate change? also how many quarts of fluid do u put back in?
+zack weis i think you need serious diagnosis by specialist. I have complete video on fluid replacement on this channel. Good luck.
Well I know what I'm doing and u know what the problem is. Same thing as u shown in this video. Mine still slightly moves matterfact. But i will look and find your video of replacing the fluid. Thank u for the video btw. At least I know what I'm getting into. I'm used to 5 speed transmissions. This is my first auto
+zack weis The conductor plate contains the TSS, but if the TCM is saturated with fluid it will also need to be replaced, along with the electrical connector replaced in this video. None of these tasks are easy and a mistake can result in an unusable transmission. I bought all of the pieces on ebay for my car and had a second vehicle to run get parts as needed.
Hello, where your location?
is that connector facing the front or rear of the car?
front
what was cost of connector from Mercedes??.good video.
don't remember, not much….
$28
THAT FUCKING PIOLIT BUSHING 😂😂 3 hours of my life with a flat head
Greetings from Serbia. I own MB ML270cdi
I am interested in how many liters of oil fits in his automatic transmission?
Sorry, i don't know.. we don't have this model here in USA...
diesel mercedes If I'm not mistaken the 270 has the 722.6 tranny in it too. Quantity should be the same regardless of engine type.... ML55 might be different
if the gearbox is full with oil and i disconnect the connector so i can check and clean it will the oil leak or i have to take the oil out
it leak about a cup go ahead
It shouldnt leak if u just unplug the connector, if you see oil, then u have a problem!
I own a 1999 c280 with the same 722.6 trans. It is a MAJOR pain to replace this part in video. It is a great car and you think the makers could have given a little more space in certain areas. The part mentioned in this video is right behind the exhaust down pipe and with hardly any room. Just like the starter on my car, you have to remove part of the exhaust or remove the body mount. If they made the car even 2 inches wider these wouldn't be a issue, its all apart of MB to keep you going back to their service department. Hate to say but it is the truth the quality in MB sucks with the newer modals . All this electronic bull crap is being forced on the market, its all cheaply made and eventually will not be cost effective to have the car serviced. Like most, my first car was one my parents sold me easy to work on and didn't need a degree in mechanical / electrical engineering. I drove just fine with out all this new crap they have today, never had a accident with my first car. Oh how about the refrigerator that you can check on your tablet of other device. Really? Gee I wonder if the Jello has set up yet, Ill just check with my phone cause my fat ass is to busy scarfing down ding dongs and ho hos watching a info commercial . Ok few, I feel better! Oh great video as all of them are!!
