If your car has a square shaped door latch (I know some Hyundai models have those) they can go in both parallel and perpendicular to the car body. Unfortunately the car I drive (Peugeot) has a rectangular shaped door latch which meant that it could only go parallel like in the video, which meant the combination of the specific model car and specific model wheelchair and my mom's disability didn't work well with a parallel handle. But if it could've gone perpendicular I'd have loved it. They should make a version of this that is also a life hammer and seatbelt cutter - then I'd gift it to so many people.
Those door latches are strong as shit actually. There have been instances of firefighters trying to take the door off of a car in an accident, and ending up warping the B pillar instead of breaking the door latch

Those latches are designed to keep the door from opening, they’re not designed to be stood on, especially when the added length from the tool allows for even more torque to be applied. Think about it this way, if you wanted to break a stick in half, would it be easier to pull the stick in opposite directions, or would it be easier to just bend it?
