bro ...look at your stamina ....even i can kill both in first try ......lmao NOOB
I love how in your first phase Ornstein just watches as you kill his friend meanwhile my Ornstein throws constant dash attacks and lightning bolts at me.
Haha yes . This fight is unbelievable
@@Matt-og6qvthis fight is terrible
All the fextra videos. Hey heres a guide, but the boss went as braindumb as possible. I hope watching this christmas land scenario is helps
I think this happens because he separated them correctly.
you failed to follow tip 1:
keep them separated
Everytime I watch a Souls game on youtube I think.. This looks totally doable. I try it myself then get slaughtered.
Same same :|
its easy once you a get a hand over the boss and knowing its attacks pretty easy after mastering that :D
I walk in blocking, ornstein somehow hits me, and smough baseball bats me up in the air killing me before I can even roll or move
it really is all doable
Me too, but then when I keep trying I find it's a bunch of eat shit attempts then one random attempt for some reason everything goes right and I pass it.
Pikachu and Snorlax
This comment fucking killed me 😂
More Like Luxio and Snorlax
Whoever built this room clearly didn't need to make pillars, how did the whole thing not fall down!?

I died to these guys for hours on end straight last night. Went to bed feeling unaccomplished and defeated, had vivid dreams fighting these guys some more, woke up, watched this tutorial, fired up the game, and killed these guys on the first try. Thanks for everything, man. I am now officially making progress on the path of, "gitting gud".
You either mastered game till now, or threw it away when u were in Tomb Of Giants or Demon Ruins 😂😂
@@sjsusujaajs Mastered the game is more like it. Really, O&S was the hardest part of the whole game for me, or any game I've ever played in my entire life for that matter. I'll never forget it. And then, because I'm a glutton for punishment, I proceeded to move on to all the other Souls games. I've been mad, defeated, and conquered some more. But nothing was ever quite like O&S.
@@voicedify That was me and Laurence the First Vicar from Bloodborne, my first souls game. I beat DS3 and Im just now playing DSR and im stuck on O&S. Truly one of the toughest
@@voicedify for me it was Pontiff (ds3 was my first) hardest challenge ever, he is reason why I mastered roll in games and never have any trouble again with any boss, never took 5+ tries thanks to my roll skills (except Gwyn but he was last boss i ever fought in Souls games after DS 3 and Sekiro). I faced pontiff with Astora sword without any titanite upgrades, and it took me about 10 days and 250 attemps to defeat him, but the pay off is priceless
3 fucking hours and I still don’t achieve to beat them. Never had a worse experience with a boss since the dancer from DS3, but this one is even worse.
Using a lightning weapon on Super Ornstein is hardcore. Took like 800 hits.
Riddlewrong omg he has lightning resistance? thats why it was so hard lol
@@israel2515 he is literally made out of lightning what do you expect
@@israel2515 All his attack are lighting, everywhere is lighting, and you expect him to not be resistant to LIGHTING?
🤦🏽♂️
@@giokhetsuriani2988 titanite demons also elite lighting yet they're vulnerable yo it as well
They have opposite weakness/resistances. Smough is weak to lightning (and resistant to fire), that's why your longsword ate up so much of his HP that fast. But Ornstein is weak to fire and resistant to lightning, so swapping to a fire infused weapon makes this fight much easier. Useful already infused weapons you can find are a lightning spear I think in Sen's Fortress somewhere, and Queelag's Furysword is not that expensive to get with the giant blacksmith.
They both do take extra dmg form fire though, even if smough is slightly resistant, a fully upgraded fury sword can take him out in not time
i used queelag’s furysword to super ornstein
It looks like they are both vulnerable to magic damage (100+ dmg to each, with my Moonlight Butterfly Horn).
Man I freakin love the music for this fight
These are things I never notice when actually playing because I'm in fight or flight mode the whole time.
your patience and timing is incredible.
thanks for doing a normal run of these bosses.
most of the stuff online for them is cheesed or otherwise weird strats
the run being solid, but not perfect is also more realistic for a guide perspective.
knowing when to heal is incredibly important when you're struggling with a boss.
+15 to +20 Estus back at the bonfire help A LOT!
Took me about 4 tries to defeat these two. Your advice to roll forward saved my life and made fighting him so much easier
4?! i am pretty sure i am beyond 40
@@hjoermungand Nothing wrong with 40. These two pieces of sheet hit extremely hard. The roll forward does help!
Important to note that doing this fight with a slower weapon that has a large wind-up, like the Murakumo, makes the fight MUCH harder during the first stage. Your window to attack Smough or Ornstein is much smaller, and Ornstein is much more likely to interrupt and knock you down with a charge of his own. Fighting with a slower weapon requires MASSIVE patience.
SirC0wd0g did it with zweihander, it's not hard because of the stunlock and hyper armor
How do you upgrade your zweihander, man?
Extremely hard with the black knight greatsword
@@HelloKittyUsern Its larger damage output doesn't compensate?
I switched to a katana and I was able to do it!! You solved it!
I can’t believe you’re using a lightning weapon on a super Ornstein lmao.
This fight is all about keeping your cool. First time doing it youre probably scared, knowing its one of the most challenging bosses in the series. Once you get over that fear its a lot easier. Thats how it was for me at least
Yeah definitely true. I'm new to the series and almost platinumed Bloodborne and I used to panic fast or get scared easily. If you steady yourself and keep cool you won't make stupid ass mistakes, that's for damn sure.
I usually do a strength build and have beaten all the games with that sometimes will use NPC’s to help if I’m stuck but I’m doing a Dex build through all the games and beat all bosses by myself I was stuck here but decided to two hand the Kitana just to see if it would help and beat it my first that with that I usually two hand with strength but was having should through the game without using my shield but man feels good to beat them without black night greatsword
New game+ tho, fucking hell, I picked super Ornstein too because I fought super smough the first time
Pyromancy helps a lot. If I would have had to go toe to toe like he did in this video, it would have been hell. I used all pyro (3 skills) for the 2nd stage.
I finally play the game everyone goes on about and decided to do a sorcery build. What a dumb idea. I can get to phase 2 fairly regularly but by then I’m out of spells and my +10 Baldur sword doesn’t do a lot of damage because I’m lvl 45 and invested most of my points in intelligence. I’m ok the verge of just going back to firelink and levelling up before trying again.
I’m on attempt 139. I know that sounds like I’m exaggerating but I’m really not. Only made it to Orinstein’s stage 2 seven times. Honestly, I am considering going back to DS3 and walking away from this lol.
Your guide was very helpful though, I never made it to stage 2 until I watched it.
Here are a couple of tips:
First, don’t be afraid to take a couple of hits from ornstein. When you are attacking smough he is gonna land a couple of hits from be hind smough, but if you keep on chipping away at smough health and regularly healing, you should manage to get to second faze. Second, when you get to second faze just do what you usually do with regular boss fights and you should be fine
@@bobthetomato7005 Thanks man, I managed to beat him on attempt 158.
@@zakattack1945 grats!
lol it’s way easier to do ornstine first smough’s phase 2 is super easy
@@obscure.reference I wanted to fight the honorable fight. I had to prove my worthiness of Ornstein's armor. :P

But human brain has one weakness tht AI does not hv .....winning or losing does not change its performance ........ but human brain can be sluggish if it is too overconfident or underconfident ........... for example when i finished sekiro n strted ds 3 ..... i was too overconfident n died alot ....... similarily when i was dying again n again while fighting against nameless king ...i lost confidence n strted playing in a vry clumsy n careless way
@@rahulverma8774 not only overconfidence but also every game from software needs to be mastered alone like dark souls 1/3 and sekiro sure you noticed the difference
@@chosenundead5009 Yeah bro ........ there were notable differences ...... like dark souls 1 bosses were always large and slow but chosen undead was also slow ........ but in dark souls 3 both enemy and ashen one were fast and tht made the game hard in a different way ...... and in sekiro i had to focus more on sword fighting instead of dodging ....... i only found dark souls 2 easy bcz bearer of curse was too OP if we compare him with bosses we face ........ i was lvl 200 in DS2 when i finished all possible quests and DLCs in it ...... but in DS 3 i was somewhere above or below lvl 100 when i finished it

5:00, its crazy how good some of the hitboxes are in this game but then there's that
Even though I've played through this game a dozen times in the past, I've come back to it some years later and this fight is kicking my ass. I've beaten them before so I know I can do it, but man the difficulty spike here is insane. From the iron golem, who has really dumb ai to these two that will combo you to death, or the dreaded butt attack in phase 2.
tha tiron golem is easy..hit him once or twice and hes stunned for like 5 hits at least.. i beat him my second try i think..this is my first tiem playing..helps to have guides though online this game kicks my a55
A +2 Black Knight Sword deals 128 damage to Ornstein, meaning it takes away a single “bar” of health per hit. Hope that helps if you want Smough’s hammer or set!
Pro Tip: Get either the SKSS (Silver Knight Straight Sword) or if you have the BLACK KNIGHT HALBERD USE IT THEY BOTH GO DOWN IN LIKE 5 HITS
If you summon solaire for the fight, it is easier to separate them. You can farm humanities in the depths if you run out.
Literally best guides out there!
Nice video man. I like how you focus on being methodical and not relying on buffing weapons. Chip chip chip away. :)
Wow... this guide is on point. I probably died 20+ times trying to fight them on my own. Once i watched the guide, i did it on the second try. Thanks!
This battle really makes the Iron Golem battle look like a joke
The second I stopped falling off the tower like an idiot, I beat the iron golem lol. He's really slow and can't really get you off his back
@@glowcloudwheatproducts495 exactly the same here. He's so slow and his attacks are very distinct so they're easy to learn. These two are a mess and I still need to figure out my strategy haha
@@kimbrolyy yup same for me here. literally just walk through his legs every time he lifts his weapon and then smack his leg a couple times. repeat till he ded and its an easy fight
Also worth noting that whoever you kill last is whose soul you'll get, and that can be used to make a special weapon. So depending on which weapon you want can also determine who you kill last.
Very nice guide! I struggled with the fight but finally managed to summon another player and Solaire. It was breeze.
That guide helped me finally defeat them. Thank you!
Many thanks for the video, following it made the fight which was almost literally driving me crazy kind of fun 👍
Damn I remember I took them down on my second attempt back on my first playthrough and thought “wtf, what is all the fuss about? they weren’t hard at all”. Now I’m on new game plus and I’ve tried like 30 times and I only made it to stage 2 once. Guess that’s Dark souls.
Love the game though I’m soo glad I decided to buy it for the switch
same, it feels like i have retried 100 times at this point, every time i get caught in an attack spam.
I’m on my first run through Dark Souls and just beat these guys. I minimized their damage with the Thunder Stoneplate Ring, Gargoyle Helmet, Gargoyle Shield, Xanthous Armor, and Stone Gauntlets and Leggings. I also equipped Havels Ring for mobility, summoned Solaire, and brought plenty of Charcoal Pine Resin. Killed Ornstein first and with all the lightning protection Smoughs phase 2 AoE was easily manageable. Weapon was +10 Balder Side Sword, with the resin for extra fire damage. Good luck everyone. If a casul like me can do it, you can too!
thanks! this guide was very helpful
Ornstein when Smough dies: My comrade. My fallen brother. Rest now. But as you go, first grant me your strength, as a parting gift, as a tool for your own avenging.
Smough when Ornstein dies: bomk
I've never had greater love-hate feelings for bosses than these two.
My issue was not getting enough gameplay time with mega ornstein to observe his attacks, which videos like these really helped ALOT. Your advice for Mega Ornstein HELPED ME ALOT. Patient observation and attacking ONLY after dodging an attack (even so, swing once at most twice). Also, when he aims his electric spear downwards, wait for a second before rolling towards his legs. I kept rolling early and got hit anyways as he moves backwards before thrusting. It's more of reacting to their behaviour than attacking.
Also, increasing vitality really helped me to tank ornstein's earlier attacks.
Used Lightning Spear +4 for Smough and Quelaag's Furysword +5 against (MEGA) Ornstein.
Defeated them without Solaire :)
Do you happen to remember your level and vitality for this fight?
@@GameInDorf sorry, that was around 2 years ago, but i don't remember overlevelling my char, especially since i didn't jolly coop with other people my first playthrough. You can also consider equipping the Dark Wood Grain Ring too for quicker rolls to have an easier time dodging.
Defeated them right after this video lmao, thanks man!
Did it after about 20 - 30 attempts and many breaks in-between. All the tactical guides were a help but it's the repeated practice and breaks that seem to help. My advice for what it is worth... stage 1 keep Ornstein on the other side of Smough whilst you are moving around. This takes awareness of the large arena and crucially the posts, but also the characters move set. I did find though that by doing this, and even better by keeping them separated by a post, I was able to roll towards Smough and twat shit out of him. He's fat and big but has stumpy legs which are good to roll against. Stage 2 is easy enough once you learn how to roll away from Super Ornstein's lightening and pick up on his attack and roll towards him at the right time to beat shit out of his legs.
I beat them on my first try.thanks for the advice it helped a lot
holy fuckin shit after raging and leaving this boss alone for years i have created my lovely character ASAPkaren whom has thus just defeated such legends as the great orny n smogy, RIP KINGS
I'm a but late, but my Strat is to equip the black Iron armor found nearby and the great club. The poise makes it so most of regular ornsteins attacks don't knock you over. then you fat roll your way to victory!
I MADE IT !!! I made it thanks to you ! Thank you so much for your precious advices !
Can't tell if this boss fight is incredibly easy or incredibly hard even after beating it
Thanks, just beat them. The rolling toward Orstein helped. Fight was still very tough.
Here is how to beat o&s easy: *G I A N T D A D*
W vid im going insane trying to fight it. This helps.!!!!
I like to kill Smough first aswell. When he is in front of Ornstein, his fat body sometimes blocks Ornsteins attacks and he'll hilariously slides around Smough when doing his charge attack.
Solaire helped me on this boss fight, he kept smough pre occupied while i could kill off ornstein. Then we tag teamed against super charged smough and it was done in 6minutes
I kinda found phase 2 Smough easier to deal with because his moves are slower and easier to dodge. The only problem is that as was said in this video his attacks deal a ton of damage so you have to be careful with him. This is just my opinion and other people approach this fight differently for their own reasons.
Have lost count how often I died. Must be around 50 times or more now. I fight with a black knight sword+5, knight shield+5, hp on 1000 and stamina 100 with lvl 60. stats are somewhat split btw vitality, strength and endurance. Ornstein is an insane pain in the ass, and flashes towards me ridiculously aggressively. I basically CANT get them seperated. its like either they both walk slowmo or they both sprint at me. and when I land a hit on smough, ornstein spikes me from behind with a flash. the hitboxes als feel utterly stupid as his flash hits me whereas here I see you able to stand just an inch away from the bolt and not get hit. A few times I managed to get Smough done, but I just don't seem able to avoid ornsteins freaking spear.
This is a good guide. Thanks for not using an op weapon, this will help me
When I first entered the boss room I already had a +5 black knight sword so won easily first try with Sunbro. I kind of regret the decision of having an overpowered build as I might have missed an awesome fight.
I never really had trouble with O&S. I have Quelags weapon +3 and I killed Orenstein first and doing that, I never had a problem with this boss. It only took me like 3 real attempts to beat them (2 of them before those ones were testing my damage output)
Ornstein in my game took something, he just dashin to me all the time I can barely hit the fat guy
9 years ago I beat smaug first on first game, then couldn't beat ornstein on game+. I may have to revisit this.
Took me about 7-8 tries solo. Very nice boss
“The camera stoped recording” as your dead soul is in the nest scene 😂 but who am I to talk I’m here for a reason hahaha
Quit playing for about a year now... Time to give it a shot again. Was trying to win with a great sword, gonna try with something faster now.
thank you
AFTER MANY TRIES I FINALLY BEAT BOTH ON MY OWN, I AM VERY PROUD OF :D
Definitely focus on ONE of these two pieces of sheet. Took me three stressful infuriating attempts!
Omg I still have faint memories of these 2 hadn't seen them since 2015 it feels like but I had the hardest time with these 2 was so happy to beat them
Nice video. Shame that I will never, ever be able to beat these guys. I'm really disappointed.
If player is open to using medium weight armor, wearing the Silver Knight armor set helps well for this fight, with its lightning defense. Might be all that stops you from being 1 hit by either of their 2nd stage air drop lightning attack.
What sucks is that Ornsteins lunge is incredibly hard to dodge since he flies around the room/ gets glitched on Smough and then teleports to you from nowhere
I feel like I'm playing a different games sometimes. My fight never go like the videos I see. Every boss all the time are always on top of me. Less than seconds, no room to breath or nothing.
How is your health bar and stamina so high at this point in the game? Did you just sit and grind for like a day?
What level equipment do yall recommend for this boss fight?
It ferries good to defeat them after about 30 tries. If anyone cares, I grounded about seven levels until I was I think 60 ish, after that I got it first try, partially out of luck, but this video helped a lot.
Such an iconic fight! Always bugs me when people complain about there being no real cheese method for O & S. Like why even play Dark Souls if you don't enjoy boss battles?!
Stick jerky and MiraLax (Ornstein & Smough.
Tip:- if summoning solaire you have to take at the annoying enemy's as if you don't solaire will just fight them and the bosses have extra hp
I only fight ornstein locked when using the drake sword
I'm here looking for Space Jam comments
Beat them for the first time today. No summons and on my 4th try. Killed smough first, super orenstein kicked my ass quiet a bit. 10 heals used and got him down to one hit while I was one hit. I got lucky and got the final blow on him.
I hadnt struggled too much with O&S my first couple playthroughs in which I managed to solo defeat them usually in around 4-6 tries but this time for some reason I am struggling so much more than usual so here I am freshening up on some tips. Ornstein is super annoying but I wanna get the loot so I need to kill Smough first but I think thats why im struggling so much more this time around. Im already at least 10 tries in and only made it to final phase twice. Im tempted to summon Sun bro but I just dont feel right about it but damnit I have so little time to play and making this run back gets so old! I at least farm some knights on my way back up to buy upgrade materials before going back in but I need to speed this up unfortunately so Praise the Sun....BRO!!
I beat these dudes with a crystal halberd and summoning full hp solaire, when i was like level 75
and then i realized that i might be kinda cheesing them and missed out a great boss fight
Use the Crystal Halberd to poke them from a safe distance
I always kill Ornstein first, because Smough hits slowly and at least he has a predictable movset. Yesterday I had difficulties and I found a good strategy - to go behind Ornstein's back, only in this case there is an opportunity to strike. I went through this with a zweihander without a shield, but the sword from the video will damage a lot more to my surprise
Watching this, i'm so glad I killed Ornstein first. His super version looks way worse than super Smough
I kept using great soul
I tried more than 20 times on this stupid fight. Then i thought to kill the two giant knights and the archer in the chamber below, go in Human form, and summon solaire. Beat it on first try with him. Solaire makes a huge difference!
After 6 HOURS on this boss, I finally unlocked the ancient gaming power called... GETTING GOOD
+13 or +15 great club and grass shield is the answer to this bossfight ;)
I find it so bullshit that my attacks always keep hitting smoughs hammer and it doesn’t register as a hit
I always kill Super Orinstien in new game. If I'm doing a NG+ cycle to see how far I can go, I oft do this
he has a 3 hit combo too btw
no one:
native english speaker when seeing word with "stein" in it: proceeds to pronounce it as _steen_
I only call him orn-steen because everybody else calls him that.....unless you don't
It wouldnt be so bad if Smough didnt spam the cheap ass charge attack one after another to where you cant get away
How does Orstein just teleport! How can they smack you mid dodge? Why do my attacks sometimes fail to do damage yet if i bump into them i lose half my health?!!?!!
I’ve beat this game 4 times and apparently just still can’t handle these twos so if that doesn’t show how good these guys are idk what does
I recently beat this boss just now after 5+ hours and 30+ attempts. I ended up having to reinforce my Chaos Witch Quelaag to +5 just to make it doable.
with your stamina and hp and dmg output you are basically the boss in this fight... i'm not even close to those bars
i know no one comes here anymore but what is that shield’s name?
See, everyone I watch has the bosses just calmly throwing out occasional attacks. When I play, Ornstein is constantly up Smough's ass and attacking through him, Smough is always using his hammer charge, and the hitboxes for every single one of their attacks is so fucked that nothing I do lets me dodge. They're so much more aggressive than in every video I see, and I don't understand why.
Oh, and for those who say "Bring Solaire!", I did that. First time he died early on. Second time he killed Ornstein first. I want Ornstein's soul for the Dragonslayer Spear. Fuck Solaire.
What sword is that?
I'm doing a no-summoning-run, so I'm gonna have to kill them without Solaire, who practically carried me last time.
Lmao I was too lazy to run all the way back to Andre to get a +10 straight sword and a +10 curve sword for the lightning longsword and Quelaag's furysword so I kept on the trying to fight with the Drake sword but after dying for like 50 times I gave up and finally went to get those two
And with those two swords I finished off them at my first try back 😂 should have done it earlier, it makes things so much easier!
And ofc with the strategies in the video here, pay attention to Ornstein if he's preparing for a stab when he's behind Smough before you stab Smough bcs Ornstein will always cover Smough in his cooldown time. If Ornstein is walking at a distance away or just finished his swing, stab Smough once or twice then immediately roll, don't get greedy. But if you focus too much on Ornstein, you won't be able to land hits on Smough because Ornstein will always skippy-di-doo away himself in the opposite direction to prepare for backstabs so it is hard to always keep them in sight. Bait their attacks, land a hit, roll away, be patient, and also equip lightning sword for Smough then furysword for Ornstein.
I equipped light armour to be able to double roll away quickly, which is especially important in the second phase while Ornstein does the lightning butt drop attack.
(But it's kind of cute Ornstein the swag guy would do Pikachu slam)
Oh my god it took for me 1 week to defeat them
please don't infuse your weapons with lightning in this game so early, do chaos or go +15, many bosses are much weaker to chaos than to lightning at this part of the game.
This is the first DS I've played. I defeated Ornstein and Smough with no armour and dual wielding a sword which is pretty slow to attack. Coming from Nioh and Ninja Gaiden 2 this game is completely different and certainly slower so I'm still adjusting to that. First phase my technique was to be more aggressive against Ornstein and it worked well.
I think this might’ve been the first fight where I actually had to summon somebody in all of these games. I hate doing that but I couldn’t get enough space in between me and these guys to do anything but get my ass kicked. They are on you like white on rice. I tried the pillars but they just zip around them. In the run back to this fight is ridiculous. Maybe I’ll do better next time but I had to talk to my sum bro.
Is Ornstein strong against lightning? I can take Smough out with a few swings, but Ornstein tanks my weapons like a beast. In both phases.
Yes
