- Some years ago, Trick R Treat left an indelible mark on Halloween horror, and the creative force behind that anthology film showcased the potential for a captivating Christmas horror tale with the release of Krampus in 2015. Unlike its darker predecessor, Krampus adopts a more family-friendly horror approach akin to classics like Gremlins, blending comedic elements to cater to a broader audience, including younger viewers and families.

SERIES SYNOPSIS: Hollywood has had its fair share of historically troubled productions. Whether it was casting changes, actor deaths, fired directors, in-production rewrites, constant delays, budget cuts or studio edits, these films had every intention to be a blockbuster but were beset with unforeseen disasters. Sometimes huge hits, sometimes box office bombs. Either way, we have to ask: WTF Happened To This Horror Movie?

This has a stacked cast of character actors.
It's a real shame that this type of folklore isn't more widely known. I was 45 years old the first time I ever heard of Krampus and instantly loved the idea.
I hope Michael Dougherty gets to direct more movies in the future
Because he's an amazing director
He needs to helm the next Ghostbusters.
the movie Krampus has become an annual tradition for me to see the days before Christmas😅
Michael Dougherty is such an underrated director. He brings the fun to films! Trick r treat, krampus, and my favorite of the monsterverse Godzilla king of the monsters!
I watch it every Christmas with my wife & we love it!
Same. It's become part of tradition. Along with the original Black Christmas and Silent Night Deadly Night.
I would love to see a sequel with the same talent behind and in front of the camera! This movie was a lot of fun! One of the best Christmas Horror movies ever!
I watch this movie every year around Christmas. It's definitely a hidden gem.
If Toni Collette is in a movie, I'll watch it just for that. She's phenomenal. But I did like this movie more than I thought I would.
This is how you know Rotten Tomatoes is just paid off for ratings. I haven't met a single person who dislikes this film, and they always love Krampus' design.
Agreed
Probably the one thing you seem to have ommitted about that particular December KRAMPUS was released THE FORCE AWAKENS also came out with no small fanfare. Which seemed to suck the air out of the room for everyone else.
This is a gateway horror movie you show kids around christmas.
I admit, when I saw this in the theater I was very underwhelmed. After later viewings, I learned to appreciate it. The effects are really good, the cast is decent, and the story interesting. It does seem to struggle with what it wants to be, a horror, comedy, action movie, warped family film. It's not easy to categorize and perhaps that's where the divisiveness comes in. Either way, I now enjoy it for what it is.
This movie instantly became one of my favorite Xmas movies. Absurdly entertaining, funny and a kicker of an ending.
Krampus is such a holiday delight and worth to rewatch because of the scariest creature from an old German folktale of when people hating the holidays even being naughty as well. The director of Trick R Treat nailed the story concept in making it horror style 1980s theme film. BTW, Weta VFX company responsible for the Lord of the Rings trilogy also nailed it in coolest effects to make this original. I still love it and got the 4K Blu-ray with uncut scenes could gain an R rated. Mike and Universal Studios, well done.
Love Krampus and Trick 'r Treat.
Sad this didn’t become a brand new slasher like horror franchise with multiple sequels. Krampus definitely deserves his own horror franchise.
i am one of those middle of the road people on this one, was excited to see it and while it was alright i wasn't blown away and not a movie i have felt the need to watch again. i almost love his look with the larger frame and the hooded Santa-like outfit but man do i hate the Santa mask idea so much and he would've been absolutely perfect if he had a more traditionally demonic face hidden under that hood of his.
This film got me interested in old timey Christmas folklore. There is so many things in Yule/Christmas traditions that is perfect for Horror movies
In that case, you should checkout Rare Exports: A Christmas Tale --- absolutely amazing old timey folklore Christmas horror flick from Finland.
Merry Christmas All 😈🎄👍
I just happened to watch the movie 4-5hours ago... i have it on my list of Christmas movies i watch every year.
I always start with Chevy chase Christmas vacation.
I thought this movie was funny as hell. Didn't expect Citizen Kane but I did expect a movie about krampus killing people in stupid Christmas ways and I got just that.... and adam Scott is a national treasure.
I like the premise of Santa and Krampus being colleagues. Santa leaves a lump of coal in a naughty child's stocking, touching it marks them, then Krampus does his thing, sort of like summoning Pumpkinhead.
I love this movie! I watch it every year
Its an 80% at least. Some people are strange. Its an annual tradition in our family.
Didn't know what to expect when I went. Boy I wasn't ready for this movie. Really good.
Who else is dying for a Trick r treat part 2?!
LOOOOOVE Krampus. Such a fun movie.
Love this movie and it has a great message. Thx for giving it some love. 🥰
Great movie 🎄✨
I absolutely love this movie and thought it was highly underrated. For all my horror loving friends that enjoy comedy as well also enjoy it for the laughs!
I wish Netflix had this on it
I love this movie. The scene with the Jack in the box eating those two girls..
I adore this movie.
watched Christmas Bloody Christmas the other night and really enjoyed it. A lot of fun, and much aprpeciated nods to the origina Terminator.
Enjoyed this movie yesterday and like Gremlins is a tradition ♥️🎄
The addition of Toni Collette doesnt hurt either.
I will admit the 1st time i saw this i hated it but i think its time to give it another chance.... and the fact we still havent seen a sequel to Trick R' Treat is a bad joke!!!
Sure could've done w.out that clip of Chad Smith @ 0:09 🤣 I mean yea I can appreciate Will Ferrell, it just really depends on which flick, but Elf can get his ass off that shelf and jump right into the fireplace! Ugh! However it was followed by 'Violent Nighr'..which I believe is one of the best antihero Santas ever! So yea, guess balance is the word.
Never saw this. Maybe I will save it for December and eject here to avoid spoilers.
I have to agree that it feels like a tonally inconsistent movie. But personally, I still can't make sense of the premise; the family is just experiencing normal holiday drama like any other family. So, if that's the case, wouldn't Krampus be busy all season long every year?! I mean, that's just typical, every-day family BS! XD =\
You can apply that to any logic surrounding the holiday (i.e. how come parents don't believe in Santa if he's responsible for gifts). The point was Krampus decided to come because the boy ripped up his letter which was the last bit of Christmas spirit he had. But if you wanted to have a head-canon to make it all make sense, Krampus probably doesn't operate on natural laws and may not even follow the rules for time. He literally brought an entire family from thed dead and is watching a bunch of other families through snow globes.
@@lloydrodriguez9969 Fair enough, I suppose. I guess this particular movie's lore has its own internal logic I'm just not seeing. =)
@@BuckarooBanzai84 Yeah, I understand my answer might seem like a copout and I do believe even fantasy movies should have some form of cohesion in their world building that makes sense to the viewer. But I still wouldn't try to make sense of fantasy and magic through natural laws and science.
@@lloydrodriguez9969 That's fair. I suppose, these days anymore that's just a knee-jerk reaction for some audiences. I guess we forget sometimes that film is an art-form as much as it is entertainment and commentary. =")
I love this movie!
Merry Christmas And Have A Happy 2024 JOBLO Horror.
The last Christmas Classic.
The best movie of the year
Wish this would of been a solid R rating....!
I love this movie
TRICK R TREAT is the BEST MOVIE EVER MADE... Maybe I just had higher hopes, but this movie didnt speak to me. Might have to give it another try.
I’ve never seen it!!
I originally scoffed ar this movie. Within the last decade or two Krampus just seemed to come out of nowhere. I grew up in a small town in Bavaria and Krampus wasn't part of the traditions I was exposed to but suddenly everyone knows who he is and the movie just looked like it was a cheesy cash grab on Krampus' popularity.
I ended up watching it just because it was available on Netflix or whatever streaming service...and I was pleasantly surprised.. it was entertaining, it captured both the warm and family filled feeling of Christmas
And the cold, desolate feeling of winter during Christmas...both wirh a family and without.
I grew up in Germany and although I was raised on traditions passed down through my family, I feel a bit cheated. I was exposed to the darker versions of fairy tales..many that never made it main stream..and I remember the horrific German fables like the boy who wouldn't trim his nails and the girl who loved playing with matches ..so it seems unfair that I didn't get to be afraid of Krampus.. but I digress.
Oddly enough, I was just as skeptical towards Trick r Treat..I saw it as a lame rip off of 80s horror anthologies..and now both Trick r Treat and Krampus are yearly watches for me.
Krampus is not perfect but it's really dame good!
Gremilins is darker more violent and more sadistic then Krampus by far and that's not a diss to Krampus it just it.
Why don’t the many other Krampus movies count as sequels? Not direct to the original story?
"Uneven?" Seriously? You must be joking......
No offense, but _Violent Night_ isn't a horror film. It's more of an action-comedy, think _Die Hard_ meets _Home Alone_ .
Anyone watch the Naughty Cut of Krampus???
XD
I ♥this movie
There were two sequels AND two "Mother Krampus" movies, all of which absolutely suck hard. Just saying.
Movie 🍿 needed more gore and a part 2 of the family escaping from the snowglobe😂
mostly liked it, but its tone was all over the place like a mad woman's shit
I thought it was a good movie.
I tried watching it the other night and didn't like it..the characters were unlikable and the jokes fell flat but I'll watch any video on here if Travis is narrating, dude's the bomb!
Nah I never interpreted it as “leaving it open for sequels” it seems like a bad ending, period. They’re taken. Stuck. Dead. There’s no way out kid have up on Christmas, and he will relive Christmas with the family he grew out of love with forever. Eventually they will go mad and even try to kill each other. But they can’t die there.
God bless you Krampus and your racist sidekick Black Pete. 🎅🏿
It came out I don't understand the point of these
Screw Elf. Krampus is my official Christmas movie
