What Happened To The Invisible Man?

- Back in 2020, when we probably all wished we could disappear from the world, Universal Pictures released The Invisible Man. Written and directed by Leigh Whannell, the movie is based upon the novel of the same name by H.G. Wells, and is also a reboot of the 1933 film. Director James Whale delivered a suitably freaky movie back in 1933 and with a premise that could easily be adapted for a more contemporary audience, surely Universal had a sure-fire hit on their hands? Well, were about to find out as we bandage up to see just exactly why Universal brought back one of its most beloved characters, as we discover what the f**k happened to The Invisible Man.

SERIES SYNOPSIS: Hollywood has had its fair share of historically troubled productions. Whether it was casting changes, actor deaths, fired directors, in-production rewrites, constant delays, budget cuts or studio edits, these films had every intention to be a blockbuster but were beset with unforeseen disasters. Sometimes huge hits, sometimes box office bombs. Either way, we have to ask: WTF Happened To This Horror Movie?

I wholeheartedly disagree with this review. I was throughly entertained and found this to be a well directed, acted and visually stimulating film!
I am a John Carpenter fan, and I loved some of the camera shots he used in this that were lifted for JC films. This film was great, and the points he raised are utter crap. "She had no previous mental health issues, so why lock her up?" WTF is he on about. That's like saying, "This woman is seeing things and going crazy....But it is her first time sooooo, ok set her free."
The restaurant killing scene broke my heart. Imagine watching your own sister, whom you’re trying to keep in your life, die before your eyes and you don’t even have time to mourn or react because the immediate blame is on you. I would have wanted to kill myself then.
The opening sequence where Cecilia made her escape while walking by the invisible tech with no dialog was awesome. Elizabeth Moss really carried this movie.
I wasn't crazy about Elizabeth Moss until I saw this. Amazing performance!
It was great. I felt so sorry for the doggie, though :(
Also I would have liked to hear more about her backstory, like, how did she get so involved with such a creep? Given her friendship with the police officer, she was capable of choosing loyal friends. Personally I would've told the brother/executor to take the 5 million and stuff it
I mostly remember this film as one of the first two films available as a "theater at home" on demand movie (alongside "The Hunt", which made a killer double feature) during the first couple weeks of the Covid19 Pandemic. I probably wouldn't have rushed to see this otherwise, but I was pleasantly surprised and quite enjoyed it, along with the novelty of the early days of quarantine lol.
This was such a chilling horror movie, it literally kept me on the edge of my seat.
More of a Thriller.

I LOVED this movie. As someone who had an abusive and manipulative ex, the abuse aspects were incredibly well done.
The movie is called the invisible man, yes. But it was more a commentary on the invisible woman; the woman no one believes when she tries to call for help or tries to explain her side of the story. No way, you’re crazy! Is what they’re always told. And it effectively makes them invisible in the eyes of everyone else. Cecilia’s journey is a metaphor for the plight of women everywhere trapped in abusive relationships where there’s no where to turn to
Clever you for catching that. It's not like the film beat you over the heat with it's message. Super subtle this one was.
It kinda falls apart at end if we nitpick it, but overall an enjoyable romp
How so? It was a man using every option at his disposal, including his own brother, to control a woman back into his life by destroying everything around her from her job to her family to her friends and even legal status.
This movie was hilarious. Insanely rich, handsome, intelligent man obsessed over average looking woman in late thirties. Its stroke material for women that love Dateline and docs about serial killers.
I loved what they did with this female. this is how remakes should be done with original thought! I'm a huge fan of the original and this was a surprise treat. But I'm curious what was the huge plot hole? 🤔 I thought it was great! and a great flix 😊👍
Wondering the same thing about what he thinks is the plot hole as well. He brings it up when the ending sequence is being shown…is it about the suit…? Or does he think anyone can prove that Moss’s character ended her exes life? Idfk. This review was sort of bonkers to me anyways, informative towards the beginning but I guess we just have different opinions 😂
@spookypersutti3598 yea I agree 👍 💯 I don't think the reviewer have it a fair shake, but hey they are entitled to their opinion
The opening sequence was incredible. I was immediately hooked. Elizabeth Moss is a FORCE
I loved this movie.
I love this film! I was gripped from the first frame till the last. No notes. You guys saw a completely different movie than the one I saw. this is why I love these things, the same flick is interpreted differently by everyone who sees it. Thank you, keep these greats videos coming
Random question for the group here: Would the suit create a shadow if he was in daylight?
The cameras and projection on his suit mask his presence pretty well at night and low light situations, but would he cast a shadow in bright daylight since there is still mass blocking light from the sun reaching the ground?
I really hope Leigh Whannell does a new movie very soon in the future because it's coming up to 4 years since this movie came out and there's been no new movie by him since so i hope we get something soon
My favorite film of his is “Upgrade” .
The first movie I saw in the theaters after lockdown. 👍🏽👍🏽
I think it would have been on digital or home video by then 🤔 but hey what do I know.
I would have preferred if the movie would have actually been about the invisible man. A one watch and done film.
I enjoyed this movie quite a bit despite the fact I'm a little tired of "abusive husband/boyfriend" plots, this one was at least well made and acted.
Imagine how women in abusive relationships feel...
@@wurdnurd1Yes, I know that happens, and so does the reverse. I've known several men who were being either verbally or physically abused by their girlfriends (one stabbed with a knife 4 times, refused to go to the police so she wasn't punished for it).
Google "Courtney Clenney elevator footage". Just once I'd like to see a movie that actually shows the other side of the abuse coin. Men don't even bother reporting abuse because no one cares. A guy complain about being abuse on social media would just be laughed at.
''and it wont disappear anytime soon.'' what movie are we talking about?
If this movie has a different title and you didn't know it was an invisible man the 1st half could have been a ghost story then the twist when u found out the truth it would have been awesome. Other then that I liked the movie
I think this is way too hard on the movie; I really, really enjoyed it!
Lol i just watched it this morning and all of a sudden you guys uploaded this video
I couldn't get over how her best friend/sister believed that message was from her.
Yeah that part was stupid, did she really think her own sister would send that and if she did believe it she should have confronted her sister about it like hey what the hell is this you know communicating 🤦
Can you really call this remake? This movie doesnt really have anything in common with the classic universal monster movie. Its like calling ET a remake of Alien because theyre both movies of a character dealing with an alien
The big error for me with this film was that it would have been very easy for them to make it so you didn't know if she was really crazy, being haunted, or if he was really invisible. And they could have given the main character a history of mental instability. But they gave it away right away. Could have really stretched out the tension and kept us guessing.
The last movie my wife and I saw in the theater before lockdown.
Same here!!
I liked Hollow Man a lot better
I worked at a cinema when this came out during the UK lockdown. It was the only popular over that time. Didn't watch it then because of COVID, but it was high on my list of buy when it came to Blu-Ray.
This film is a modern day classic and stands toe to toe with Jordan Peele's Candy Man remake.
Candyman was not a remake but a direct sequel to the first...
I'd leave her immediately
Theoretically "Hollow Man" this century was the first reboot in 2000. Terrible film, but the VFX still stand tall to this day-
The Invisible Man (Original And Remake) And Hollow Man I Saw All Three Movies Both Hollow Man And The Invisible Man Remake On HBOMAX Last Year And The Original Invisible Man On The ROKU Channel Two Months Ago. These Three Movies Really Makes You Think.
I prefer my invisible men to be of the bacon variety. he was the perfect invisible pervert
This was a very good movie I was quite pleasantly surprised when it first came out. Especially when compared to that monstrosity of a movie that Tom Cruise did about the mummy.
I am more interested in what happened to the reviewer to so clearly have some grudge against this low-budget (cost 7 million, made 145 million) movie that did what it set out to do. Make a somewhat believable (vs potion drinking/chemical bio-altering hokum) tense movie that was, in some parts, a nod and a wink to John Carpenter movies.
This and Upgrade are two great films from Whannell.
This was a excellent movie, and like you said didnt hit in all the spots that it needed to.
I don't know, he just seemed to disappear.
I was expecting some BS cheap slasher film but I actually found myself liking it because of the inventive logic that some genius could actually invent themselves an "invisible" suit by using microscopic cameras.
Jays, can we get this guy some English speech lessons?
One of the best horror reboots suspenseful scary Elizabeth Moss performance was amazing 9/10
Nothing happened to it. It's a film, it came out and people watched it.
Moss, being the female lead, is a bit much. The fact her Ex is stalking her makes no sense. Of all the hot chicks a rich and successful guy could attract for far less effort is a bit much. Movie is ok, but 1933 is entertaining.
Shhh you'll ruin the narrative lol
Clearly you did not see the movie-- because her character IN THE MOVIE mention it. And the psycho guy gave her a bs answer. In layman's term, it was all about control.
What narrative?@@bamfbabybamf
9:08 It's worth revisiting but also it is not.
the remake is amazing. the original was garbage. see also: Hollow Man (2000).
Dodgy vfx? Jeez these CZcamsrs that have never been on a movie set or actually worked on post production for big budget movies really have their brain tainted by this anti cg bandwagon. It's ok though... All a movie has to do now is just outright lie and say there was no cgi at all and all these CZcamsrs will parrot the claim without question. Thanks for the heads up
Please do the All Hallow's Eve, Terrifier movies
This is one of my favorite films with Elisabeth Moss. I’m glad they went forward with this film, even though it kind of got caught up in pandemic. Moss carries this film on her back, but I personally feel like the story was great and more innovative than the opinion shared here. You think it’s laughable…? Yikes. But that’s your opinion. I put everything about this film in the “W” column. It didn’t reinvent the wheel but it was a great ride, original, and had a great protagonist.
This was a fantastic movie from start to finish. I don't know what you're on about regarding the third act, but even though I guessed the ending as I sat in the theater for my first of what would be many viewings, I can't knock it. This was one of the better big budget movies released in the last 5-10 years.
I thought it was a real good movie, it brought the invisible man story to the present time, with a new twist on it.
For me, "The Invisible Man (2020)" was one of the few horror movies I'd seen over the past few years that was honest to God scary. The way they focused on paranoia, suspense and thrills instead of cheap jump scares or blood and gore was its best strength and one of the smartest decisions it made. It was also one of the few times the cinematography in a horror movie stood out, because it never let you forget that the title character could be anywhere, and often focused on an empty shot that reminded you he could always be there and you'd never know. Elizabeth Moss's performance held on to me tight, and her transformation from a terrified victim to someone who was done running and hiding had me cheering. Highly recommended.
Well, it's a blumhouse movie, so it'll have its flaws from their low-budget requirements. Overall, it lacked some zeal for me, but it kept my attention during the run time, very much predictable for a movie. Now, will they follow up the movie with an invisible woman? Yes I felt it was very feminist, but given the Era in which we live, it's woke and feminist movies being pushed. But I would agree more with BBC vs. RT. But it was enjoyable for one viewing.
This channel amazing me with its continuously bad takes on both good, and not so good movies.
This movie is awesome.
Trash*
I really had high hopes for this movie, but for me it totally fell flat, watched it a few times and other than the twist at the end, i really did not like this movie at all, the original made 70 plus years ago was waaaaay better than this nonsense.
Gotta disagree. I thought this went hard as fuck.
Is the narrator British or Australian?
Sounds English to me
This is a good ass unexpected masterpiece
Where's the sequel? It's been talked about for years
Why do u guys sometime say Wtf and sometimes say What the Fuck? I definitely like the 2nd way better
I love this movie so much
Leigh Whannel should direct a sequel to M3GAN
Because he's perfect
Hollow man did the story better.
Tired of so-called critics yada...yada...yada I thought the movie was really good. I watch a movie for the enjoyment not to pick it apart.
You think a woman with a recent history of being abused saying her dead ex is stalking her with a sci-fi invisibility suit and not being instantly believed is a plot hole...?
A/ that's not what plot-hole means and
B/ people must sell you invisible bridges a lot.
I did not enjoy this movie had a lot of holes in the story I wont get into but I watched it once and wouldn't watch it again
I loved this movie
Movies not perfect, but definitely a step in the right direction with the concept of the invisible man.
Masterpiece of a film
Pertaining to a critic's quoted statement in the video, If being against domestic abuse makes one a feminist, then I suppose I'm a feminist (also, the movie is a nifty little thriller - it's not trying to change the world or anything).
The story is NEW and FRESH ... don't remake or make it too similar to the originals, always a bad choice
It’s a brilliant film, Elizabeth should have been Oscar nominated
bad film. the best RE-DO of the invisible man is Hollow man, this is just shallow, hammy. should have been an original. yet, would watch this clunker over hereditary ( awful)
I think I am the only one who disliked this film intensely. And the only one who thinks the acting is absolutely awful. Maybe I need to watch this again to re-evaluate, but for me, this movie is just horrible.
You're not alone. It was a pain to sit through. Acting, story, characters etc. Just bad.
I'm with you; it was trash.
You're not the only one. I didn't like this at all and I don't like Elizabeth Moss as an actress.
Was ok
...overrated and miscasted with the lead
It sucked. 😂
This is the horror version of the MeTooMovement. I know thay some people liked the movie, but it hits too close to reality with toxic relationships.
I don’t mean to demean your review ! Everyone is entitled to their opinion and not saying domestic abuse survivors CANT like this movie ofc but as one myself I thought this movie was PERFECT. Though the restaurant scene has kind of a major plot hole , at that point I can forgive it. This movie really boldens the idea of someone who is the victim becoming the “ crazy person “ who can’t be heard. Even when all signs should show it’s not her fault or she’s completely coherent. And that’s 100% possible. Law enforcement and all else can sometimes completely turn their heads to the pains of the victim. The sister blocking out moss then the restaurant scene marked a major turning point in the movie. It evokes that isolated feeling yet your around so many people. This movie is NOT perfect but I think this movie deserves so much more credit than it gets with reviewers. But not to take away from your review !
Trash film. Doesn't come close to the OG film.
