Theorists, let me describe a story to you - see if you can guess what it is. There are psychic kids, celestial beings, time travel, and an entity of pure evil that shape shifts. What story am I talking about? Did you guess IT by Stephen King? Or maybe A Wrinkle In Time by Madeleine L'Engle? Well, loyal Theorists, it's BOTH!! Today I'm going to tell you how Stephen King STOLE his multiverse from A Wrinkle In Time.

The new movie upset me... it completely skipped over the colorless planet. Every creature there was blind, but very sweet and welcoming. That portion was there for a reason, that you can't assign value on what you see (since meg was blind for most of it). They just went straight to the dark planet and that bugged me.
I don't know? good question

Quick question MatPat. How did you even get introduced to the idea that A Wrinkle In Time was connected to IT?
Through the shower
Every now and then, you see a Film Theory episode that makes you second guess whether or not it's April 1st.
I find it annoying that he barely does any real science episodes on game theory and film theory. I like lore episodes, but I think he should do some proper science episodes.
Taylor Pease
Some times he nails it but then he says "it's a theory"
I don't know this one seemed pretty good, it's not as convoluted as other theories out there are, and he makes a great deal of connections to both of them, so I say it's a reasonable question and a fine theory overall.
Yeah I miss those too, but I'm fine with the lore ones, and I always find it's more important that the creator does what they want because it leads to a more quality, or one more full of love or whatever the word to describe it as, since they aren't just padding to one group, sure it may make them less popular, but it'll keep the job fun and entertaining so they can keep putting their heart and soul into making one.
@@foxtrotgaming4684 why don't you just wach the ones with Austin in them
Neil Gaiman's "Stardust" has a star turning into a human, so does Greek mythology. His "American Gods" series has something similar to time/space travel with the "behind the scenes" travel which takes place.
Didn’t IT come to eath millions of years before the events of both books?
None of this holds up once you add in the other books in the wrinkle in time series. It’s a Christian sifi-religious universe. The brothers of meg and Charles even went to help build the ark before the flood. The lore of wot is very tied to the Bible and God, explored with crazy Sifi lol. It’s a fun read.
IT came before but the turtle was there with IT before going to earth. The title is in the wrinkle in time and it’s perfect timing for both.
I love how you said "IT" and not pennywise, because that is correct, IT I just a light or better known as the dead lights. That is it's true form, pennywise is just a name for the clown form. Thank you for using the true name
Di you mean Maturin? Maturin is a god, but later after Bill defeats It he feels a greater being that is not Maturin tell him he, “did a good job, kid” from outside the universe. So you could say God does exist in It.

I'd say maybe genus or family, not necessarily species. Feeding habits and apparent abilities are different, but I see where you're coming from.
@@cbohnstedt4477 Oh, yes, that's a better explanation!! More like Genus Because Pennywise feeds in fear and the Beldam with love but both of them feed with feelings. 😨😨😲😲😲😂😂

Mat, you do know that there’s something called a family kiss?
While yes, not on the lips exactly, it still works.
oh well this is from 2 yrs ago I doubt anybody will see this.
@Sparky Shock where
There was a Stephen king novel called ‘The Colorado Kid’ which was later adapted into a loosely based TV series called ‘Haven’. Haven is the name of a town also in main, and Derry is a town mentioned as a real place rather frequently. In this show, there are these afflictions creatively named ‘The Troubles’. The troubles were created by a woman who was from another universe. These troubles would cause people to have strange abilities, some of these include:
Putting anyone you touch in extreme pain
Not being able to feel anything
Anything you touch turning to shreds (people included)
Only being able to breathe underwater
Controlling the weather
Being a skin walker
Telekenisis
Reading minds
Moving to fast for anyone to see you
And more.
These troubles when they were first created over a hundred years ago, would pass through generations of families. Something that’s significant is that emotional trauma is what brings them out.
As punishment for creating these ‘Troubles’, the woman who created them was forced into a prison for 27 years, and when she returned to Haven she would have had her memory wiped and have the false memories of another woman given to her, and by the end of her stay there, she would have to return to her prison, and when she did, there would be a meteor shower called ‘The Hunter’ that only happened every 27 years when she went away and the Troubles would be temporarily gone and would come back 27 years later.
I have a theory that Carrie could have had a Trouble. She had a series of traumatic events that brought it out, and she had a relative that had something similar, and there was something different about her genetically, like the people in Haven who had troubles. Same with the Shinning, it could be another trouble.
I dunno if this theory is tru tho
7:23 Thats not Bill....that's Stan!

I came to the comments to see if anyone already menationed it lol
What if thats because in his gravity falls theory he claims that the character Stan Pines is actually Bill Cipher

I think we need to take the time to actually appreciate how far matt goes just to make these theories. He would literally read 7 books just to make one theory, he would relearn subjects to calculate one equation all just to entertain us in his way.
Good job matt
You realize he just steals these from reddit, right?
Not all
Banthar but he doesnt know the difference between stan and bill. This is all wikipedia level shit. Matpat puts no effort into these and panders to dumb kids
He also has a team who helped with research. Also, they should have read another 4 books, the rest in he Wrinkle In Time series (The Time Quintet). They disprove a good amount of this theory.
Yeah, It kind of dissapointed be that they got excited about the connection but didnt actually look to affirm whether it was true. I understand that they have to get the content out on time but its still upsetting.
3:50 matpat:” the tesseract “
Me: “marvel is they you?!”
Gotta part company with the "humans-as-stars" point when it comes to The Dark Tower. Roland was only reciting a parable about the stars used as navigation tools in Roland's where/when. In A Wrinkle In Time, actual cosmic entities shared details of their lifetime. The similarity of concept is not confirmed.

whenever people talk about the king multiverse sometimes they leave out the dark tower or kind of leave it as an afterthought or a supportive story, which doesn’t really make sense to me because the dark tower (both the books and the actual tower in them) is the connection point between every world, including every other king book
Yup
And it features The Crimson King(Basically IT) ,Randall Flagg(the best fking villain in the Kingverse) and the most badass protagonist in the Kingverse
I hate that fact. It’s easily one of the better King books (though there all really good) and it’s obvious it’s pivotal for the lore of his books. It makes the spirits of the overlook, the ancient being in the form of a clown somewhat explainable and yet more scary (because some believe penny wise may be the same evil as the over look and that the crimson king is that evil) because they exist in evil and villainy across the multiverse which makes it infinite and all powerful
I love the fact there are people who still read books, not just watch movies. 🤗
In my opinion, this would have been more believable if Matpat had drawn parallels between the Dark one and The Crimson king, who, as the ultimate evil of Stephen King's universe would have fit more. And if not him, I'd still say Randall Flagg would be a more fitting choice.
im gonna be the only one to say it, but mat the fact that you are taking your time in all your theories makes me want to do a theory on you about why you are making theories.

I was actually seriously concerned for MatPat's health until I saw how old this was and realized he wasn't dead, because I was wondering if he was running a heavy fever when it was made. Most of the connections are very common story tropes, the bit about the "people becoming stars" is only literal in Wrinkle In Time... in Dark Tower it's a myth, and because that world is a twinner for a version of the 'real' world it's basically based on the whole 'people becoming constellations thing' (heck, one of the names is a mangling of Cassiopeia, a real world constellation), which is about as old as surviving fiction itself. Saying it means people literally turn into stars in both worlds is like insisting Slenderman is real in ours because there are myths. And he straight up describes tesseracts and todash space as being two VERY different methods for crossing long distances (one bypasses by warping space time so you aren't crossing ANY other space, the other is essentially making a shortcut through Cthulhu's back yard) and then says they're the same. That's like saying X-Men's Magik going through Limbo to teleport is identical to the Star Trek teleporter. There are no valid similarities here. Look, I even liked and saw valid points in the Sans/Ness theory, but this one... I think this was the first Game Theory ep I ever had to downvote.
stars who are people is also a thing in narnia
Also one of the connections between wrinkle in time and IT was the main characters are traumatized kids 😂
I know this vid has been out for a bit but I also wanted to point out the Dean Koontz used the same time freeze mechanic in Lightning. No matter how long a person stayed in another time only 5 minutes would pass in their native time. I always thought that was an interesting concept but never realized it had been used so many times...I have never read or seen Wrinkle in Time.

I’ve read the book before I saw the movie in theaters. My aunt got me the whole series and because the movie was based on the first book I tried to at least finish the first book. I did and I LOVED it. The movie was amazing, but I was let down a little. They left out sooo many good parts. I started to read the second book but got kinda bored so I started reading a different book. I tried to go back to it but couldn’t. If you also read the book please like this comment. Matt Pat, I love you videos, they are AMAZING. Keep up the AMAZING work. If you can please respond it would mean so much to me. I’m one of your biggest fans. (P.S. if I spelled your name wrong I’m so sorry I haven’t made a comment on your video including you name.)
I love the book too! I'm trying to compare the first book, the graphic novel and the movie before I read the rest of the books, though.
Hey matpat I have a theory for you! Are the food stunts in “Cloudy With a Chance of Meatballs” actually plausible? I’ve posted this theory on you’re “Bee Movie” and “The Incredibles” videos and they’re going to be more detailed than this one. But to sum them up: Flint and the villagers pull off some impossible stunts throughout the film like using BREAD AS A BOAT last time I check bread gets soggy in a snap, grilled cheese form of not. And that based on their geographic location on the globe, creating an ice cream snow day on an island near the equator would lead to a melty soupy ice cream mess. One commenter on my theory/question also mentioned that all this food would cause destruction to the environment. I’m sure that fish aren’t too fond of Ben & Jerry’s Neapolitan ice cream entering their waters. The major builds a dam to hold the leftover food but wouldn’t it smell and how would you clean up melted ice cream? Please like so he can see this.
Oranji- Spec No. Done.
What was even the point of this request? You just answered yourself.
This is a movie about food weather why the hell are you thinking about science?
Too long didn’t read
Naveil like I have said, I’ve posted this question on two previous videos and that this is more of a quick breakdown of them. The question is about how/if it’s possible for any of the stunts Flint does in the movie work. I use the ice cream and grilled cheese examples as they’re the most rememberable and the ones I remembered when I first originally posted the very first time on another video. After reading replies it was also mentioned that all the excess waste could cause damage to the environment and climate so I mentioned that here. How long would it take for the island to return to its natural state, what effects would all that good have on the islanders’s bodies, how would local wildlife be effected? All these questions are why I posted

funny story uhhh, wyatt actually auditioned for a roll as bill but the director decided to cast him as stan
@RandomnessArLizu the grammar is correct. the spelling is incorrect.
@RandomnessArLizu Its a CZcams comment, I dont think grammar is needed.
@RandomnessArLizu hm, you are correct.
my apologies.
@RandomnessArLizu so just because he missed putting in commas where they're supposed to be means he's more drunk? Lmfao you're hilarious.
“That’s a pretty unique concept. Stars that take human form and vice versa.” Is it really such a unique concept? It not only happened in the stories you mentioned, but I also remember it in The Chronicles of Narnia: Voyage of the Dawn Treader, and Percy Jackson and the Olympians: The Titan’s Curse. Not to mention The Blue Fairy in Pinnochio.
Caspian’s future wife was the daughter of a Star, wasn’t she? I seem to remember Ramandu’s island. But you are right, that definitely did happen in The Last Battle.
Also Stardust by Neil Gaiman.
Also many, many different times in Mythology. Such as Orion and the Scorpion, or Canis Major and Canis Minor.
Thanatos Erebusson I think he meant that it was a unique concept when Steven King wrote IT. As a side note, those are some great books.
Zachary Gilmore Agreed, they are some of my favorites.
I like the idea of using someone else’s universe. Especially if they have permission, the universe is abandoned, or original author is deceased.
But a wrinkle in time has sequels.... they just weren’t made into movies
