    DESCRIPTION
Welcome to the HowFixit channel! In this video, I will provide you with a comprehensive guide on how to disassemble your PS4 Pro, clean the fan, and replace the thermal paste. Proper maintenance of your PS4 Pro is crucial to ensure optimal performance and prevent overheating issues.
In this step-by-step tutorial, I will walk you through the entire disassembly process, demonstrating each key component and explaining the necessary precautions. I'll show you how to clean the fan properly, removing dust that can accumulate on the heatsink and impede airflow. Also, I demonstrate how to put the PS4 Pro back together after cleaning and thermal paste replacement.
Additionally, I will guide you through the process of replacing the thermal paste, which is vital for maintaining the PS4 Pro's temperature regulation. The thermal paste acts as a conductor, transferring heat away from the critical components. A degraded or improperly applied thermal paste can lead to overheating and performance problems.
By following the instructions in this video, you'll be able to disassemble your PS4 Pro safely, clean the fan thoroughly, and apply new thermal paste correctly. Take control of your PS4 Pro's maintenance and ensure its longevity and peak performance.
Leave a comment below if you have any questions or suggestions for future videos. Thanks for watching!

    FAQ
    * Which generation of PS4 Pro is disassembling in this manual *
In this video disassemble PS4 Pro 2nd generation CUH-7200 series.
    * Which PS4 Pro models are available *
    PS4 Pro 1st generation: CUH-7000, CUH-7015, CUH-7016, CUH-7017, CUH-7100, CUH-7115, CUH-7116, CUH-7117.
    PS4 Pro 2st generation: CUH-7200, CUH-7215, CUH-7216, CUH-7217.
    * How often do I need to clean my PS4 Pro? *
    - It is advisable to clean the PS4 Pro game console once a year, but it all depends on the room in which the game console works. If the PlayStation 4 is very noisy and heats up, you should clean it.
    * How to clean the PS4 Pro? *
    - In most cases, a brush will be enough, the main is to remove all the dust.
    * Can I clean my PS4 with compressed air? *
    - Cleaning with compressed air without disassembly will not give an effective result, it will give some effect only if the cooling system is not very dirty.
    * Do I need to change thermal grease when cleaning my PS4 Pro from dust? *
    - Yes, thermal grease needs to be changed when cleaning the PlayStation 4 Pro.
    * After cleaning, the PS4 Pro continues to make noise *
    - If after cleaning the game console continues to make a lot of noise, you should think about replacing the fan. There are cases when the fan itself stops working at different speeds depending on the heating of the system, therefore it always works at 100% speed. Also, the fan casing can be deformed and you can solve this problem only by replacing the fan.

Word of advice to anyone looking to follow this guide. When you remove the power supply, do not try to remove the cord from the motherboard. Instead, remove it from the power supply itself. I stupidly followed the instructions in this video and ended up ripping the whole thing out of the motherboard just to immediately realize that it would have been much easier to remove from the power supply end. Hope this helps someone so they are not left without a ps4 like I was.

Don't be afraid to pull up the plastics as they can be hard to remove sometimes but eventually it will come and not break. then follow instructions. Sort the screw (hell even if you miss one or two of the huge amount ther is on the metal plate its not a big deal) and use MX4 thermal paste (my favorite) et then you're good really. Followed this video and it is amazing! Helped me replace the paste on my Ps4 Pro. DEFINITELY worth it guys, every game made my PS4 ramp up the fans to max all the time since DAY ONE! Don't let people tell you that it's the "fan being dusty" or "that's how it's supposed to sound". The thermal paste in my PS4 Pro was so bad it was laughable! I took a photo but can't share it here :/
2 tips that I picked up on the way from other videos that will be very useful as you could easily break your PS4...
    1. When removing the Power supply cable @3:14 ...do NOT try and just pull it out! It is connected to the motherboard and can easily snap off! Use a good pliers and grab the part you want to remove and slowly wiggle and lightly pull...NOT THE WHOLE PART....otherwise you will snap it off and it could happen so easily!
    2. Be sure to LIFT THE TAB on the ribbon cable @3:36, it's the only one that has a tab holding it in place. I've seen a lot of comments saying their disk drive doesn't work anymore....this is why...if you don't lift the tab you damage the ribbon cable.
Excellent video and my PS4 is about 85% quieter now! I was hesitant and didn't want to do it but I'm glad I did!
If you're reading this and you're not sure if you should do it or not....trust me it's easy, just do it slowly and carefully, the results are worth it!

Thank you soooo much for this tutorial! Liked and subscribed. My PS4 Pro is now as quiet as a church mouse! The radiator was also clogged with dust, the fan was caked with it, and the old thermal paste was dried up and cracked. This brought my system back to its youth! I did buy a precision screw driver kit for this project, so that plus the thermal paste only cost me $36.
I will say, however, that the thermal paste I purchased said to only use a dot and to NOT spread it around the CPU. I confirmed with a friend of mine, who works with computers for a living, and he suggested just using a PEA SIZED dot of paste, because if you spread it around like you're frosting a cake, you risk the CPU overheating.

Hands down one the most accurate and well presented tutorial videos out there. 👏
My heatsink and cooling fan were actually very clean, but the thermal paste was just carbage. Nearly 1/3 of the CPU had zero paste on it.. Okay my PS4 Pro is just two and a half years old though. I used a Noctua NT-H1 paste too. Couldn't be happier with the results.

There's been an infernal heatwave around where I live and my Pro has been overheating all the time for the last couple of weeks. I thought I'd help by cleaning the inside and replacing the thermal paste on cpu and the pads on other chips.
Your video was immensely helpful, particularly the detail in which you explained which screws are used where, there are so many it's easy to get confused. That and the part of the reverse assembly where enough to brighten my day, both ideas should be used more often, with electronics usually the problem is putting everything back together after you've done the job.
    Thanks, really appreciated.

My dear Sir, you deserve a slice of Sony. Thanks a lot for the most smoothest video on this topic. I wanted for a long time to clean my ps4 inside as well and change the paste but I wasn't that sure. I said I have nothing to lose now as my ps4-pro was turning into a propper spaceship while playing Warzone. 🤦🏻‍♂️
I literally had a strip the size of a finger of pure dust on the side of radiator 😶🤦🏻‍♂️
I cleaned it and placed a new termic paste...
And the ps4 is SILENT ! ABSOLUTELY NO SOUND... even in Warzone !! There is constantly no sound no matter what I do !!!
Thanks a lot for the help and easy steps and explanation.
Those termal beds were a bit of a headache as 2 of them came off just like that. One from the front and one from back. But i noticed and placed them back and everything is okay for the moment.
Very professional video. Thanks again !!!

This has to be the easiest step by step to follow, though I had to pause it a few times when it came to the screws(there are so many screws), but all jokes aside this is seriously the easiest step by step there is for disassembling cleaning adding thermal paste and reassembling your PlayStation 4 pro. Thank you for the amazing video. My pro is now almost silent. I have the older rmodel but its almost exactly the same. A few less screws to pull on the inside and a slightly different cpu shroud. This was so thorough and easy to follow. I watched some other video that only includes taking off the top and bottom covers and trying to clean the fan without even removing it. No chance at reaching the radiator that way either which was totally clogged on my unit and no reapplying of thermal compound which is the REAL reason they all sound like jets. That video had almost 3 million views and isn't anywhere NEAR as good as this one so I added a link to this video in the comments. Thanks again for the help! Now I don't cringe every time I turn my system on. Mine was ramping up loudly even just in the dashboard.

You showed the part numbers of some of the easily replaceable components like the fan and everything, but you never noted the thermal pad thickness in the case that any of them needed replacing.
For those that are curious, I believe the thermal pad thickness is 1mm.

Great tutorial. Very detailed and makes teardown a lot easier. My fan was running on max speed constantly and when I looked at the fan and heatsink, there wasn't much dust on there so I was kind of doubtful that was the issue. I appreciate the guide, very much! Late last summer I cleaned out my ps4 pro and I wanted to get more in depth this time around as it started sounding like an active runway at times. I managed to get every single screw back in without any leftover bits lol but I did break the PSU cable trying my best to gently remove it 😔 almost salvageable and I was even extremely patient and easy going, but it was just too stuck in there and the grip slipped and barely broke one of the wires 😔 at least it's only a $5 replacement and it's much easier in a much easier spot to get to rather than having to tear it all down again.
Idk about you guys, (and for everyone else who have not yet taken the PS4 pro apart, this is a cautionary tale) but they smothered the thermal paste all over the CPU. Just half of the how much thermal paste there would have been too much. It was spilled out in globs over most of the CPU and there were still some smaller globs of the paste on the bottom heatsink plate! 😬
This guide was excellent, but it is easy to make a mistake if you're not very careful which I learned the hard way, unfortunately. Honestly it's the best guide I've seen out there and I've skimmed through plenty vids to get a concise tear down, or at least to get to the main board. Just be super careful and brainstorm the approach if there are any stubborn connectors. Everything else went smooth and I'm eager to see any difference if there are any lol--I would imagine there would be after seeing that CPU! 😬 And having the system dusted out as well..

Not very hard to do overall. Torq TH8 is about $3. Noctua $7. Just be careful and do things slowly in a well lit room.

So I did the thermal paste change and immediately noticed some 90% reduction of fan noise. Then after one month it came back to noisy. I opened the Pro again to check and everything was fine inside. Thank you for this guide. It definitely made my PS4 PRO quieter, but not whisper quiet. I can still hear it but it's not annoyingly loud anymore. May I add and recommend that people also change the termalpads on the chips. The ones that came from the factory were pretty toasted. They should be 1mm thick. Good luck anyone!

Very grateful for this video, i have just purchased a PS4 Pro all working…except it wasn’t. Overheating issues plagued it that i thought i bought a jetty engine. Anyway, followed your video and instructions and ended up removing one inch of dirt and debris from the fans of the heat sink, reapplying the thermal paste and generally giving it a very good clean with a tooth brush. All working within expectation and certainly a lot quieter.

So ive just followed the steps and my ps4 pto is so quite. left it on the cod screen for 15 minutes, fans didnt kick in like a jet engine, which they normally do within 30 seconds of being on the screen. These are the best instructions, so clear, good quality so i could pause between steps while removing screws and using thermal paste. Key is to have the correct security screwdriver - T9 and I used thermal grizzly kryonaught. Big thanks How-FixIT

Thank for this video. I followed your steps exactly. And was completely successful in disassembling, cleaning, applying a thermal paste (the good one, kryonaught I think, had a heat conductivity value far higher than others). Reassembling was just as easy. Console runs whisper silent playing COD MW 3.

I've bought a used PS4 Pro on ebay a few days ago and was dissapointed seeing how loud the thing goes... It was really unbearable, so I decided to sell it immediatelly and buy a Slim version (I've had experience with Slim and it was never that loud). Fortunately, I've decided shortly after that I won't give up that easily, and searched for experiences what to do. One of the youtube videos led me here and I decided to do it. And I did it today and couldn't believe my ears - it actually works. The thing is even more interesting, due to the fact that the vent and the heatsink were completely dust-free! I've applied a little bit of the thermal paste (the same one like in this video) and replaced all thermal pads (+ put the rest of the pads on the funny-looking metal cover for better heat dissipation) and that's it. Same games work completely different in the same scenes. I am glad I didn't sell it and did this, it was even fun to do it, not difficult at all. Just be careful with all the cables and don't forget to connect something or pull violently if it doesn't get loose on the first try
