How to Clean Your PS5 Safely - 3 Stages - From easiest to hardest. While you're PS5 shouldn't be needing a deep clean yet, I wanted to have a video ready when you need. Stage 1 is basically cleaning both intake areas and the covers. Stage 2 is basically removing and cleaning the fan and the heat sinks accessible through the fan hole. And Stage 3 is basically taking everything apart and cleaning it.

My PS5 started unexcpectly turning off this week, although it's insured I didn't want to have to go down that rabbit hole of agro (British word for effort, hassle, trouble lol), of contacting them and being without it probably for a few weeks, so I decided to follow your really helpful video of properly cleaning...
I've always opened my ps5 every few months to clean it but I never had the tools or confidence to remove the fan and clean that out, this time I did with the right tools, im not going as far as removing the Motherboard or anything that's too advanced for me, but ive managed to clean the fan, heat-sync and even managed with a bit of a vacuum/blower and brush to clean out the power supply grille inside too through the fan gap, the console is spotless inside and out now as best as it can be, and I was amazed at how much dust and crud had actually built up inside there, even though I keep it clean and in a position that's not on the floor or blocked airflow, it was that gunked up.....I have owned it since Oct 2021, and this is the first time I've taken the fan out to clean so maybe it's just time.... thankfully re-assembled and it all seems good and fan spinning.... so hopefully no more overheating and shutting down!
Thanks again, and I only recently learned of your recent health battle, I hope all is going well with that, I wish you all the best and respect that you're posting videos despite it!
Did it fix your issue? Mine is doing the same thing haha
Thank you so much! I've done some level 2 cleanings in the past, but today I did a level 3 cleaning. It went great! The power supply part sure was very dusty 😅. Not getting any more "too hot" warnings anymore. I was scared while doing it but the video is simply amazing and easy to follow. Nothing got damaged and no "extra parts" at the end 🤣.
Just gave my PS5 a level 2 clean for its first birthday. Went very smoothly. Honestly the hardest part was getting my top plate on and off. Thank you for a very clear guide!
Was it dirty inside after a year?
@@Matute7231 I mean it was definitely dusty but not more than what I expected after only a year of use. There's definitely some minor dust buildup deep in the inside that I can't safely get to with only a level 2 cleaning, but my heatsinks are sparkling now
I’ve had mine for a month and it’s already shutting down. No way it’s that dusty. Guess I don’t have a choice but I’m going to have to give this a go. Sigh.
@@MrRHCPfan84 if it’s shutting down (for overheating presumably) after only a month, there’s probably something else going on inside. Like a manufacturing issue
@@loztpm usually most consoles have a safety feature when the console detects that there’s too much dust and heat and will shut down to prevent sparks and fire incidents.
Just cleaned my ps5 for the first time using this guide, it was really helpfull and easy to follow, thank tronicsfix
Anyone intimidated by stage three; I just finished doing it to mine that I hadn't cleaned since bought in 2021, really not as bad as you might think. Here are some tips n small issues I ran into along the way:
1.) Make sure you go out and buy a t8 screwdriver bc odds are you don't already have one in your tool box, and pliers are a must for some of the cables.
2.) Have a way to separate the screws and organize them so that you know where they go back. I did like four Tupperware dishes and ust assigned each stage to one dish, then as I took them out I placed them in a circle trying to mirror the general shape of their orientation within the console.
3.) He puts back some of the screws in the wrong places in this video, try and mark holes where there was no screw to begin with as you unscrew the protective metal plate.
4.) After you unscrew all 41 screws, the cover will still take some coaxing to get off of the motherboard as there is adhesive holding it there, don't brute force it. I went gently around the edge with a flat screwdriver and then pulled up using the top left and bottom right corners.
Thanks for this. I also posted a comment calling out how unhelpful this tutorial was in many ways bc of all that he left out or straight up did wrong and then corrected without even addressing it lol
T8 Security, learn from my mistake, tough to screw them back on. Dont use too much force, if you feel some resistance its good enough.
What a legendary video, crystal, clear, mate, well done , you deserve more credit for this,
I’ve just done a brilliant deep clean job on my PS five , all the best mate
If you don’t take a part electronics often, I’d recommend to just clean the the first two stages because you’re taking a risk albeit a smaller one. If you have animals, I was told to put the console up at a higher location even if it looks tacky, it still may be worth it.
I agree, honestly I never take apart my electronics because I am worried I won’t be able to put it back together. If you don’t do this stuff often, it’s best to take your console to a professional to have it cleaned in a safe environment and to ensure nothing goes wrong.
Gotta start somewhere if you’re too scared to start you will never get good at it

I still have my ps4 pro and I sold my og ps4 to a friend they run great because I clean them and even people I know who haven't clean them theirs still works. Playstation consoles are very durable since the first one. They don't break easy like xbox consoles. Og xbox last 2 years died. 2 xbox 360 red ring of death first one 6 months the other a year and half. Xbox one sister had red ring of death from 2nd day got a replacement and hers is going strong. All my playstation consoles work psone, ps2, ps3 and of course ps4 pro and getting my ps5 on the 29th of this month. Keep it in an open space and your place cool.
I just recently cleaned and applied new thermal paste on my buddies 1st gen PS4 he bought at the exact same time as I did from Amazon. The heatsink had a 2-3 inch thick mound of dust and cat hair compacted that felt like a thick sponge from him constantly using duster. His thermal paste was literally dust because he let it overheat over and over before finally having me fix it. He let it overheat so bad it caused his hdd to fail because if it.
I have never cleaned my fat og ps4 that I’ve had since 2014 and it still runs fine
You've been a great help. I just bought a defective ps5 and it was fun to join you with the dissasemble. Also fun to find out that a lot of screws were missing in my model...even after the factory seal. I guess it was a friday afternoon model...
Anyone else here because their ps5 is randomly turning off during gameplay, without a overheat warning?
Yes
It may have been your CPU’s thermal paste not having been applied correctly. Did you ever get a fix?
Mine also recently started doing this and I had a lot of caked dust on the heat sink and fan so we’ll see how it goes
Same with mine. Except it’s saying it’s because of my extended storage was removed without turning it off properly. Anyone have any advice?

Was it dusty?
I love how informative your videos are I don't subscribe to many things but sir you are sure getting one
Spent 2 hours last night disassembling, then reassembling my PS5.
My day 1 launch console from 2020 had been having moderate to severe overheating issues over the past few months, to the point where the system would suddenly shutdown without warning about an hour or two of playing any game. I knew it was due to overheating, because I experienced the same issue with my PS4 Pro a few years back before I opened it up and fully wiped out all the dust from the heatsinks, motherboard, and power supply...So I knew I would have to do the same exact thing here with the 5.
The internals of my system were fully caked with dust in certain areas of the heatsink and powersupply, which was causing the overheating and airflow issues. I used a dedicated electronic vaccum cleaner, microfiber cloths, and a toothbrush to completely clean out all the dust.
The console is now running super cool and doesn't get hot to the touch near the base like it used to, and I shouldn't have any more severe overheating issues for a few more years hopefully.
Hey thanks man I got mine around launch and have been meaning to clean it 😆
Thank you so much for the clear and concise walkthrough! Another user pointed out, during the rebuild, the placement of the 41 screws had an error. You need to save one silver screw to for the disc drive after you put the midframe back on. I also noticed a lot of heat paste that seemed to come off easily for you, but my 2-year-old unit ripped most of the paste in half. I'm concerned that I may lose some heat transfer efficiency because I didn't replace the dried paste.
Thank you 🙏 I’ve had my PlayStation for 3 years now and it’s been shutting off mid game for nearly a year now and I’ve tried everything then I watched your video and it helped

Thankyou for taking the time to explain this to us.your very informative, and I appreciate you for your video.
The two holes on the console are actually supposed to be vacuumed. You put a vacuum over the hole to suck dust through the entire system. This is a very specific and deliberate design consideration from Sony to prevent consoles from building up too much dust and becoming loud over time. It was explained in PlayStation's offical teardown video. That is the 1 and only way to officially clean your system and the most effective way to remove all dust from the air channels.

@@peachbeach9471 yes it works amazingly well. Dust usually sticks together so it’s so simple to just tweezer it out without removing the whole fan
Mine always turns off
Just did this to stage three it was terrifying, but it all went back together clean as a whistle. One criticism though the section of the video when the drive goes back on you have a cut you placed in there and the screws are in the incorrect holes, specifically the bottom most optical drive screw and two screws top right where the spare HD is. This caused me to have to go back to figure out where they went, and you can tell if you go back to the disassembly section.
Very informative,thank you
Your tutorial is really good thank you so much.
Keeping track of stages for when ill need them
0:42 stage 1
3:04 stage 2
Just a heads up...
Some of silver screws are in the wrong spots in the rebuild part, which will stop some of the final black screws working.
Go back to the teardown section to see where they are supposed to go.
Bruh I just got to that part now I have to take it apart again 😢
I usually take a picture of the system with the screws or i use a erasable marker to mark specific screws with a line or x
The screw holes your suppose to not use with the silver screws have marking on the plate
I thought so too!!
Eactly. Least he could do is pin this comment to save people some trouble.
My PS5 kept crashing a crashing even though I cleaned the fan. But I didn‘t know about the power supply. And with step 3 I cleaned it thoroughly and now it‘s great!!! Best video!
Thanks did the complete disassemble and clean . And reassembly thanks for the video picked up a precision tool set at my local auto parts store.
I prefer to use a small paint brush, preferably with soft bristles, it's more comfortable and reaches the most difficult nooks (
especially with heatsinks). Much more than a toothbrush or shoe rack that isn't capable of reaching everything.
I keep a small paintbrush in my drawer for such occasion
Those work great for loose dirt. I sometimes use a similar brush. Many times dust is cakes on and won't come off with the softer bristles and that's when you need something with stiffer bristles.
cosmetic brushes are good too
I prefer to use a camera lense brush, it's just as soft as a paint brush but it can also blow a small amount of air to losen the dust in the tight corners
There are paint brushes we call in the U.K. flat fitches, they are perfect
Jeez! This is hard work. It’s easier to disassemble my PC!
This guy is awesome. I watched his video on the PS4 when mine kept overheating. I completely disassembled it and put it back together. I'm here now because my PS5 occasionally shuts itself off.
did cleaning help ? mine just started that today
You’re a gentleman and a scholar. Much appreciated 💪🏽💪🏽💪🏽
Making my PS5 ready for FFXVI 🔥😂
