      Hi there. I taking apart my PS4 Pro. I changed the cpu retention bracket for custom one from xbox360 and changed the paste to Arctic Cool MX4. The console no longer makes noise like a vacuum cleaner. But. Just in case, I removed the bottom and top plastic covers for testing. All OK. But the lower large aluminum plate, covering the entire motherboard from below, heats up to hellish temperatures. Is it fine? The heat goes through it?

    Thank you! I knew my PS4 needed a clean up and you explained everything so easily that I manage to completely follow every single step without any fear of destroying my console. You're the best!
    But I gotta agree with some comments, you have to be careful with the power supply, thankfully nothing bad happened to me but my dad it's an electric engineer and I know for a fact that even without a power source it can store enough energy to pack a good punch.

    Thanks for this detailed video! Bought a PS4 Pro and it was a jet engine. Just like the video, there was an 1/8 inch of dust layered on the heat sink. Probably the real problem why it was so loud but cleaned it all out, replaced the thermal paste and did it all in about an hour. The power cable was definitely the hardest and was really hoping I didn't break it getting it off. Everything worked and is quiet as a mouse.

    Followed the instructions and it worked a treat. Pay particular attention to the PSU cable when you reassemble, I thought it was through cleanly but realised it was snagged after I'd replaced everything on the other side - added another half an hour to the job. In total 2.5 - 3 hours the first time. PS4 Pro is now back to original levels quiet i.e. fan is on but not noticeable

    Just wanted to give you a shout-out and a very big thank-you I just recently purchased a PS4 pro and decided to take it apart and clean it and get it ready for the future of gaming and I followed everything step by step and worked out perfectly luckily mine was not dirty at all it was practically new I'm surprised but your instructions were very precise and as far as the power supply I think considering what's in there and the capacitors I would just spray with some compressed air once you took it out because let's be honest it's mostly space it's a lot safer than risking getting a shock but all-in-all a great video thanks😊😊

    I followed your video and my PS4 pro went from jet plane to silent. I was shocked how much it changed. I used mx-4 and thermal pads 1mm and it worked great. My only issue was there was a clear film on the thermal pads that I didn't notice until I had pasted it already so I had to take it apart and repaste but no big deal. Hopefully it stays this silent for a long time.

    Unfortunately, I didn't have the past to be in the link, I may regret it in 1-2 months because I have to paste it again, but I used Aliexpress HY-510 (that was home) and it turns out!
    It was a very good diet point for maintenance if there were a couple of points I had to look at several times because it was not clear, eg: before removing the top covering the two screws which is on the on. It records the unit of the connection line, but in the end it is solved. But it really helped a lot.

    So I finally got round to cleaning it and replacing the thermal compound with MX-4 and now it is WHISPER QUIET. The fan spins up far far less even than when the console was brand new. Should have done this as soon as it was out of warranty!

    Hi I inherited a PS4 Pro, which sounded like a jet engine, before it told me I had to close the console as it was melting. The unit I have is the later version, so there were aspects of the back plate that were not quite in sync with what you show, and the chip backing is held in by a 2 point fixing instead of 4.
    Oh, and the power unit screws: One of them was plastic, which meant that it burred almost immediately. So I ground it with a screw driver.
    That said, I found the heat sink with a mat of dust all over the intake.
    Everything cleaned, thermal paste renewed, and one hour later she fired up as quiet as you like.
    The other thing I was considering is adding an SSD, which would give less stress to the CPU.... but I wasn't certain, as I think I may have issues with formatting the drive. I don't have access to a windows computer, with the gear. Is there a way to format in the PS4?

    • @eduardoce41
      @eduardoce41 Před 10 měsíci +1

      Method 1. Format External Hard Drive for PS4 Using Disk Utility
      The first thing you're going to do is open the Disk Utility on Mac. In order to do that, you'd have to go to finder. Then, follow these steps:
      Step 1. Open Disk Utility in finder.
      Step 2. Find and click on an external device.
      Step 3. Click on "Erase."
      Step 4. Pick the "exFAT" file system in the next prompt.
      Step 5. Click "Erase."
      This will format your device into the exFAT format and allow you to connect it to your PS4 without any issues.

      Ehsan Chowdhury yeah that’s honestly the best bet if you’re not good at taking apart or working with electrical/mechanical devices or don’t have an adept knowledge and experience of working with circuitry or have trouble remembering which screws go where. I’m fairly knowledgeable and experienced with mechanical objects and devices and I was considering doing this to mine, but after watching this video, I’m rethinking it. The last time I took it to an electronics shop to get it cleaned, it took the guy a few hours and he only charged me around $40. The thermal paste costs, what, $10? Might be more than that now, but still $40-50 every year and a half or so isn’t that bad, especially considering that it’s someone who does it for a living and specializes in doing this sort of thing every day.

    Great video. I was actually thinking of doing this myself, but after watching this and seeing how much work it is and how much dust and other nasty shit I’m gonna have to dispose of, I think I might just take it to a shop to let someone else do it. What I can’t figure out is why my fan only gets loud when I put in certain games and at certain times with each game in the PS4. For Horizon ZD it only does when I open the map screen over/around Meridian. In Fallout 4 and Skyrim it gets loud when I open the map screen, but not as loud as when I open a container or look at my item/inventory menu and it gets loudest when I’m just playing it normally in the open world. I go inside a house or (anywhere the game considers an “inside” location) building, the fan speed goes back down. I’m thinking that’s probably not a clogged with dust or cleaning issue, but just certain locations and performing certain activities in some games just make the APU get hotter, and the thermal paste the guy put in there must have dried out.

    • @Daz555Daz
      @Daz555Daz Před 10 měsíci

      Sounds like dust or thermal paste but probably both. The problem with many PS4 Pro consoles, especially older models, is poor assembly. Low quality thermal paste was applied poorly at the factory and there is only one way to remedy that.
      I've redone mine and cleaned it and my PS4 Pro is now virtually silent at all times.

    • @TannedWaffle
      @TannedWaffle Před 9 měsíci +3

      besides the possible dust and thermal paste, the main reason is because it takes a lot of processing power to utilize maps in most games like that. The same thing would happen to me in open world games, also in open world games it takes a lot of power to render in all the assets depending on areas you're at.

    Ok but is this *guaranteed* to fix my ps4 pro from sounding like a jet about to take off or nah? My local shop quoted me $90 to do this, and tbh I feel like it might be worth it, I’m not a very patient person and I’m also not mechanically inclined

    Just done mine. With larger thermal pads than original and an extra one on the hdmi chip it is very quiet, even when running VR. The factory thermal paste was very poor and about a 1/4 of the gpu wasnt even coated. No wonder it sounded like a jet engine before.

    Spreading paste causes air bubbles. Better to let it spread on its own. It will squeeze the excess out. Only time to spread would be when using Liquid Metal

    You need to be seriously careful opening power supplies, IMHO you should've warned people of doing this while risking their own safety, those capacitors still hold a huge amount of voltage even when the machine has been turned off and disconnected from the outlet. Other than that good video. For future reference never muck around with psus people.
