      LOL there are so many ways this show has plot holes how Light can lose.
      Even in this episode... Rem does not have to write L-s name into the note book to save Misa and then to die because of it.
      Rem could just speak up to L or make a deal that if she/he ( i dont know what sex Rem is ) reveals who Kira is then Misa gets full immunity.
      I bet L would take that deal and boom... Light loses... L does not die, Misa does not die and rem doesn't die.

    About the foot washing scene. L knew he was going die and had accepted that. Before this scene, L & Light had a word about about being truthful and trusting others. Previously also, L and Light have a conversation about friendship and betrayals. This was a symbolic scene as Judas betrayed Jesus in Christianity. Jesus knowing he was about to get caught, still washes Judas’s feet; and sacrifices his life eventually. L in the same way knew Light was Kira all along still he treated him let’s say “nicely” because somewhere deep down he knew that his personality traits ( Not trusting others, his deduction abilities, sharp, being distant with everyone etc ) is quite like Light. So, he related himself with Light. L could have saved himself ( Given his sharp thinking ) but he still chooses to let Light win at that point with him dying. But, L knew in the long run eventually Light should be caught as Kira.

    L for me is rightfully the best character of this show and I don’t think he was outsmarted at all, light had a death-note but L was still keeping up with him which is an incredible feat in itself, light has done nothing but put his best effort to hide while L was always figuring out pieces of evidence at the risk of being killed. It’s totally understandable that he couldn’t protect himself from a god of death that wanted to kill him, after all he’s still human, he have limits like all of us and I would say that it is honourable and humanising about his character ,he can’t protect himself from supernatural things that can directly kill him because he doesn’t have a supernatural panel of possibilities like light. So he wasn’t outsmarted at all he has always been at a disadvantage, we, the audience just never saw because it was camouflaged by his amazing abilities.

    • @abdelbouzazia4955
      @abdelbouzazia4955 Před 2 lety +6

      He knew that he was going to die but deep down he always felt that light was Kira, those are even his last words in the manga and that’s what is also incredible about L, as without even having foolproof that light is Kira, L knew it. Why ? Well because they have the “same nature” (hate to lose, childish, ect) but L because they are similar was able to sense that there was something that completely opposed them : Honesty. While L has always been a completely honest and direct person ( he always say what he thinks, even the fact that he’s L) Light has always been hypocritical and that’s why L said to him : Light, since the moment you have been born have you ever told the truth once ? It’s because light was so similar to him but so different that he was able to see his rotten nature that made him think that he was Kira.

      @@abdelbouzazia4955 I think that the movie "Law Abiding Citizen" summed it up well - "It's not what you know, it's what you can prove." L held onto his belief that Light was Kira to the end, but couldn't prove it concretely. This was the moment where L could have disproved the 13 day rule and throw Light back on as the prime suspect and with the shinigami and Death Note known to everyone on the task force, this would have only led to Light's downfall. Time needed to be on L's side and I know he could have proven Light to be responsible, but Light made sure that didn't happen. And it was because he knew how Rem and Misa's mentalities were and how to manipulate them and get him out of this jam.

    I absolutely love this anime for asking the viewer to confront such difficult moral and philosophical questions. Like is it wrong to take the life of someone who you know will go on to kill many more people? Or is it right because it's for the "greater good." As well as at what cost should justice be served? There's this crazy paradox in Light where in order for him to rid the world of evil he himself must become the most evil of all.
    This show captures that moral struggle so well through it's compelling story and captivating characters. It makes me appreciate anime so much for having the guts and the maturity to explore these topics. You would NEVER get an American cartoon that would take on such heavy subject material.

    Some people like Light, some don't. I personally love the unique idea of having the Protagonist be more of a villain. Very few shows go down that route and do it well. And the absolutely genius plan from the previous episode combined with this one was extremely well thought out. Light manipulated everyone, even himself. And it's a shame. We can see from episodes 17-24 that Light really was a different person without the notebook. He actually had compassion and cared for people. But power corrupts. And absolute power corrupts absolutely. Light cared for people. Light cared for L. Kira did not.

    • @shyamk1103
      @shyamk1103 Před 2 lety

      Only people light cared for as Kira was his family. He forced himself to not care for Misa or anyone else because he believed that he would mess up if he did. Death note truly ruined his life and corrupted him. He would've had a amazing life ahead of him if he didn't get the death note. What truly makes me sympathize him is he didn't even want to use death note. But he forced himself to use it to justify the 2 accidental kills he committed. I mean, He had nightmares and he lost few pounds when he realised he was killing people. Killing people definitely wasn't fun for him. This makes him a hopelessly tragic kid who was trying to justify himself for all horrible things he did throughout the series.

    From deathnote fandom wiki:
    "Just before Light has Rem kill L, L receives prophecies of his death in the forms of images and dreams (more than once). In the same way, Jesus prophesied (more than once) that He would be betrayed and killed. Also, Jesus washes the feet of His disciples, including Judas-just before the latter betrayed Him. In the same way, L washes Light's feet after their conversation in the rain on lying"
    Also L kept saying "forgive me for my sins" and other things of the sort knowing fully that he was getting killed and that Light viewed himself as a god. I saw another commentor mention "absolute power corrupts absolutely". I always thought that absolute power reveals absolutely one's true self is more applicable to the real world. It could be that Light was written as someone who fit in the first category where the death note corrupted him, or it could be the second option where it only revealed who he was. Although we will never know exactly who Light is, only the creator of the character does, I would be curious to hear your thoughts on wether it's the first or the second scenario that describes him best.

    This episode left me speechless when I first watched it.
    I love how it’s called Silence, and how from the very beginning it focuses so heavily on sound. The sound of children and bells from L’s past, Misa’s haunting melody, the pouring rain, the ramping choir, then back to the sound of bells as L falls - all leading to that moment when it falls completely silent as L closes his eyes. Whoever did the sound design - chef’s kiss.
    L is one of my favorite characters in fiction. I couldn’t even tell you why, but he just sticks in my brain and demands to remain a point of fascination for me. And as much as I hate that L had to die, I believe this episode is a big reason for that. It feels like losing someone before their time. Considering all the time that we did get to spend with him, we still know basically nothing about him on a personal level. Then we finally get a glimpse of his past, with hints of the nature of his childhood, then they yank him away from us before we get the chance to really delve into his character and background. That isn’t to say we never learn more about him - to say whether we do or don’t would be a spoiler so I won’t confirm or deny anything on that subject. But still, when I got to this point on my first watch, I remember almost feeling cheated. It left me yearning for more, and cemented him as an unforgettable character and Death Note as an unforgettable show.

    On a happy note, I would honestly give the Japanese live action films a shot after you finish the anime series. They used the same English voice actors for the dub, and I feel like they did L more justice than anyone. I actually brought those to my parents house over a few weekends since it's much less of a commitment than a long series, and they really got into it, too.

    In the manga, this episode doesnt exist. Rem did it right after Light write with the needle. Rem realized all of this much faster. Rem react instantly and die at that moment.
    L hasnt got a chance to say that dialogue with Light. It happened so fast in manga. Too fast, even.
    They put somber episode, and I love it. L deserve this kind of special treatment for a glorious death. He did said great spiteful goodbye to Light.
    "Have you ever tell the truth"
    Thats a great last words slapped to someone like Yagami Light.

    Simultaneously my most and least favorite episode of the entire show. L's death I think was one of the first times I ever experienced Major Character Death and it broke my heart. But the way it was done, the build up, the betrayal, watching this game between two forces come to a close.... truly beautiful. As much as I wish it wasn't, I do think L's death was not only inevitable but necessary for Light. Also, that scene between L and Light on the stairs after the rain, TOP TIER.

    so sad for him to see his death like this. he died surrounded by those people who a day later forgot about his death, who a day later laughed and joked, who did not care about his words and only at the end of thanksgiving and a few cases did they think of before that.Light is still Kira. They seemed to refuse to believe in L and his abilities to the last, to the last they turned away from common sense. But L worked with them, L died at his job, he gave everything to this world, and died Domtoino, silently, looking at him in the eyes, calmly, quietly. It's a shame that he was dying in front of the people, and they seemed not to understand what was happening, clutching at their own heads, staged scenes, a circus around. I don’t want to say anything, just stupidity can hurt anyone more than rivalry, remember.

    Death Note is my favorite anime and I will always be by Kira's side. Thank you Ben and Anna because you are the best reacts on youtube. I love the way you guys react, the faces, emotions, discussions of the episode. Unfortunately you didn't expect L's death now, but know that the best of the anime is Kira versus L. I saw the sparkle in your eyes go out with his death, but this anime is amazing, all the scenes, stories and characters . I don't like what comes next until the end of the anime and I won't give spoilers, but it's really worth getting to this episode. I compete with several friends, some like Kira more and others like L, but this is one of the most interesting things, the way each one sees from the perspective of who is "more right" or "more wrong", who is the true justice, the whole story that makes us think. Thanks for everything, I'll keep watching with you if you're going to watch until 37. If I can suggest a smart anime similar to Death Note, I'd say watch Code Geass. It would also be nice before the end of the video for Anna to say goodbye too, it seems silly but I can only say goodbye to Ben because the video ends before hahaha

    L essentially went out and outright explicitly accused Light of being Kira, and Light just gave a normal political answer. When L says he thought he would say that, it had a depressing tone, because L knew that Kira was back. When before, when L accused Light of being Kira while his memory was gone, he started attacking L. The massive difference between Light with and without memories was how L knew it was over, he had lost to something that was beyond science or reasoning

    Not going to lie, every time that scene happens, I can't help but grin from ear to ear. I love both Light and L, but seeing Light triumph over his foe like that, outsmarting him in such a clever way, it just makes me happy. Best way I can describe it is, to me Light is anti-hero I love to see succeed. I may not agree completely with his methods, but he's got so much charm and charisma that I can't help but root for him. And, while his actions may be extreme, I do kind of understand his mindset when talking about criminals and justice.
