    This moment is still one of the best moments in Death Note. Finding out everything was according to Light's plan was godlike. He even managed to manipulate himself. And the Light that was kind, worked with L, and didn't like lying to others throughout episode 17-23 disappeared. Because Kira is back.

    Reminder, this was Light's BACKUP plan after the cell phone shenanigans idea failed, and the very reason why Light did the switcheroo stuff in the forest between Rem and Ryuk is because Light knew that Rem would never let Misa cut her life span again and would refuse to give her the eyes again

    • @raveoreynolds6049
      @raveoreynolds6049 Před 2 lety +2

      I don't think a Shinigami can refuse to give someone the eyes. If Rem could, there's no reason she'd even explain the deal to Higuchi. The switch was more so the new owner got the book with the rules written in a human language.

    • @ianp5367
      @ianp5367 Před 2 lety +34

      @@raveoreynolds6049 Actually no the switch was for several reasons. The first it ensured that both Light and Miss would have their memories linked to both Death Notes. The second was to get Misa separated from Rem, beyond just the deal Rem would at least try to protect Misa as much as possible.

    I'm so glad someone finally remembers that Misa had a really long lifespan because for some reason everyone kept freaking out at that scene, thinking she only has a few years left but she probably still has at least a normal lifespan... Assuming Gelus had at least a 100 years, she'd still have at least 25 years left and that's just the worst scenario. I can't imagine Gelus only having a 100 years, I think every shinigami probably has over a 1000 or at least a few hundred. Killing just a few middle aged people would already give them 100-200 and I doubt they've only killed 4-5 people in their lives. Misa probably still has a lot left.

    As a watch wearer, it's not a stretch to see Light wearing that same one, especially since we now see that it's modified to have a secret compartment in it that serves a purpose. I have many watches and I will almost always gravitate towards one and wear it more than the others. There's a routine with wearing a watch, and that included taking it off only during showers, cleaning/maintaining it, or sleep (though most will sleep with it on). There's a saying that not having a watch on makes you feel naked since it's that important.
    My guess is that Light is the type of person who only needed one watch or has a collection and just decided to keep that one worn and knew he'd be wearing it during that critical moment.

    hey this is the episode that made meme history.
    Subbing is done now mostly by professionals but back in its western infancy, lots of subtitles were done by people with free time since companies didnt really bother translating anything that wasnt going to make a profit.
    The fan dub for this specific episode translated the helicopter scene's
    "exactly as planned"
    as
    "just according to keikaku (translator note: keikaku means plan)"'
    It's a meme that has lasted since 2008, and still kicking around now.
    also hilarious anna going "i dont want L to die" and Light instantly saying on screen "you will die"
    this is a little early than cellphones being ultra common place so watches arent out of the ordinary i guess :p

Not to mention it has the best anime ending of all time! Anybody who agrees give this comment a like so they see it!

    Ryuk mentioned if a Shinigami stayed writing names, they would basically live forever. It's safe to say Gelus had about 100-200+ years on him & that was transferred to Misa on his death,
    so she probably has a good 30 left after halving it twice.

    • @raveoreynolds6049
      @raveoreynolds6049 Před 2 lety +7

      It's not a safe assumption though. For one, Rem wouldn't be concerned if Misa had tons of time left. Secondly, Gelus was the type to get attached to the lives of humans at the expense of his own, it's not unthinkable that he ignored his duties to focus on that.

    • @Phireo
      @Phireo Před 2 lety +3

      As Raveo said. Ryuk did mention very early on that Shinigami world is becoming boring and slothful, some Shinigami even die by forgetting to write names often enough, thus, it might have been hundreds or thousands of years, it might have been something like 2 or 3 years.

    • @Rakerong
      @Rakerong Před 2 lety

      I still have a theory that humans cannot live as long as shinigami. Even if Gelus had, say, 300 years accumulated from taking human lives and it somehow transferred over to Misa upon his death, Misa should only be capable of living as long as a human possibly could. This ties in with the explanation Ryuk gave about how humans can't take lives and add it their lifespan by writing in the notebook because then they could just live forever.
      We don't know if what Rem stated about Gelus' lifespan being added to Misa's is true, or accurate to how it sounds. It is possible that Misa gained a new lifespan since her original one was null. We can assume that either 1. Gelus' lifespan did add to hers, but it was such a low number that it worked within the range of human lifespans; 2. Gelus' lifespan had nothing to do with anything and he just died, and Misa's new lifespan just was created and Rem was mistaken; 3. Gelus racked up an insane amount of years but Misa's human body would only allow a certain number to max out at with her new lifespan.
      It's always interesting to hear possibilities but this is mine. Even if Misa's new lifespan was 100 and she lived for another 80 years, this would put her halved remaining lifespan with the eye deal twice at 20 more years left. Not too far off from your original number.

    Of course the plot required it to be that way, but L beign as perceptice as he is, I find it odd that he let the note come close to his prime suspect. Yes yes, how could he know there would be some memory erase bullshit, but he even let Misa chained in the building. Light should not be involved in this arrest at all. Given the fact that L never made public appearence before this case, it would make sense if he, Light, Misa and someone else stayed at the building coordinating everything remotely. Like I said, the plot really required it to be the way it went, otherwise L would have so much time to think about the note and most importantly, Light probably wouldn't have a window to kill Higuchi.
    Also, I hate how L simply stand there in the helicopter withtout asking to see the note again. He's not even interested in it. It is so forced, so out of character. Higuchi said he killed with the notebook, he was already arrested, everything regarding the case now lies with this note and he's just sitting there.

    There's no official information about Misas lifespan addition. Gelus could have had 10,000 years saved up from a long long time ago and just kill a single person with 20 years remaining every 20 years to maintain it. Or he could have 100-1000 years and maintain that.
    I think most likely she got at least 1,000 years added, halved that to 500 on the first eye deal, then halved it again to 250. additional years.

    • @yourgrammarisnotverygood1827
      @yourgrammarisnotverygood1827 Před rokem +2

    • @Jaker788
      @Jaker788 Před rokem +1

      @@yourgrammarisnotverygood1827 Suicide is not related to a humans primary lifespan, it can happen regardless of remaining lifespan and is considered cutting your life short by choice (instead of dying at the end of your lifespan).
      Further there are a few rules that we can use to understand that lifespan is not so simple as a death note owner. First is rule 73, shinigami eyes will show you a person's PRIMARY lifespan, implying there are more complex factors that can cause a different death time. Second is rule 76, The use of the Death Note in the human world sometimes affects other humans' lives or shortens their original life spans, even if their names are not actually written in the notebook itself. In these cases, no matter the cause, the Shinigami sees only the original lifespan and not the shortened lifespan.
      Misa could have had any amount of time left on her lifespan since suicide is a humans choice and not affected by primary lifespan, and I doubt a shinigami would be letting themselves get down to single digit lifespans before killing again. Further, 5 total years cut in half twice is less than a year and a half. Misa lived a lot longer than that after the near stabbing incident.

      This is literally so completely baseless. We are not given any information to support this, only your assumption that shinigami kill often enough to have thousands of years to spare. Which is refuted by Ryuk early on, saying shinigami are lazy and dont work like that.
      Plus Misa killing herself what 4 years after the end of the show, may imply that was the time she had left. Even if it wasnt there is zero proof that Gelus had a lot of time left, and going by Rems reactions, we can safely say it wasnt a lot.
