Fun fact: At the end of the manga there is a 1 year timeskip showing how life is without Kira. Crime rise again everybody is doing their normal job, but then we see people in the end praying to Kira for his return. Meaning in a sense, that Light won, he became a god in the new world.

The shot of Light walking past his younger self has always been my favorite piece of anime cinematography in the past decade.
The way it zooms in on his eyes, showing him looking back and then switch to front panicky-looking just conveys so incredibly much. It's like within a split second, he turned from still believing everybody has wronged him, to regretting every single decision he's made since that day. We don't see it on the screen, but it feels like the imagery of all of past 7 years worth of events was flashing through his mind. The eyes looking to the front again feels like his realization that there's absolutely no way back and he has no choice but to face the enormous consequences.
It was such a brilliant shot. I just can't give it enough credits.

There it is, plot hole removed and they still lost. They would have done that to the first note (the fake one created by Mikami) anyway.
Near beating Light was very possible and plausible. Light whole masterplan relied on a fake rule and, most importatly, revelaing the existence of the Death Note. His life and his rule as Kira would be forever tied to cover that rule.
Now explain how the hell did the task force could not put 2+2 together when L basically told the case would be solved by testing the 13 day rule, but they instantly did it when Near implied there might be a fake rule, 6 years later? Not only that, the task force had this weird moral barrier about killing a convited criminal and their country literally have death penalty. This is the most egregious plot hole in the entire story.

I actually really liked Light as a Protagonist. He's just so unique in how far he's willing to go for his goals. He's willing to do dark things for his ambition without regret. But we also see moments where Light expresses his humanity. Like when he lost his memories for episodes 17-23. Or when he put aside the mission(symbolized by him dropping the pen) when his father died. The Light that cared for others was lost piece by piece until only Kira remained. In both a metaphorical and physical way, Light was a victim to the Death Note as well. And in his final moments, he saw who he was before all of this. Before he picked up the notebook. Millions of people were impacted by Kira, but he went out as Light Yagami.

One of my favorite moment is actually seeing Light SO DEFEATED that He said “Where are you Misa, Where is Takada” Takada was literally killed by him and He also was the one who ordered Misa to send the death note so both of them were quite obviously couldn’t have help him and yet Light couldn’t even think of that at the moment because he was so desperate that he was searching ANYTHING that could help him no matter how impossible it is.
Light was always so smart and calculated, always used everyone and saw himself as a GOD but at that moment He was so desperate to not die that He was searching for help from even MISA that he always looked down on. Light had to face his mortality and fears and that proved Near’s point. He was never a god, just a mortal who played god. That is why I like that scene so much, It drived home the point that how utterly defeated Light is and how “human” he is that he becomes so vulnerable and desperate when he faced death despite seeing himself as a god the whole show

Light knew at that point that Near was trying to replace the book and it would have been a simple full proof precaution to take but instead he decided that his plan was perfect and had no counter. I love that the anime changed Light's death scene from the manga a little. I think it conveyed really well that at the end, there was nothing left but regret, so much regret. It felt so tragic. And not because I wanted him to win, but because it's just too tragic that someone as great as him even got to this point, driven to insanity by the notebook and his superiority complex. Maybe he actually could've been an amazing detective like L and a good person like his dad, if he never found the notebook. Maybe not, because I feel like he was always this way and the notebook didn't change him, just brought out his worst qualities. But it's just sad to think about this all, since Light had so much potential. He had everything, he had a loving family, they were wealthy, he was popular amongst his peers, he was smart, he had a bright future ahead and yet he succumbed to madness and destroyed it all. He told Ryuk he was happy he found the notebook and he's never felt miserable but I feel like in his last moments, he was regretting everything. Not necessarily because he realized what he did was wrong because I don't think he ever realized that. But I still feel like he regretted it.

Light Yagami was genius prodigy with a mind of a dictator. He was a guy who was bored since no one was as smart as him. He claims all the time he wants to become the god of the world but on some level he wanted a challenge. The way Light was pretty pathetic. He was cocky and arrogant and wasn’t acting like he was during his fight L but trusting others do things without checking. The way Light lost showed us his true nature. The arrogant manipulative crazy serial killer who wants to control the world but his law. L was always right about Light who is nothing but a child who hates losing. Funny right before he died he looked back on finding the Death Note and seeing an image L (his only worth rival)
Light pretty much showed us he was a villain since he talked down about his father who was stated to be nicest guy in the entire Death Note series. Not looking back or thinking about status of his traumatized cripple sister, sad broken mother and pure deceased father. Light was always a villain. NOT A Hero or anti hero.
In the anime Misa may have committed suicide but in manga Misa committed suicide after learning Light’s death. In the manga Mikami was in jail for a couple days then killed.

My personal opinion is, that I think, Light has become the cruelest fictional villain. I liked him as a character, because he is the most complex, yet most understandable villain, but I cannot agree with a single move of him, he's just cold, heartless, against everything I believe in. He's worse than Umbridge. Or Joffrey.
Yet, this ending was soooo sad.:( He was running bleeding, lay down alone, was sad, saw his only friend in front of him, then he died. I can't not feel sorry for him in that shape.
I guess this is what makes the difference between us and him.

It's just that by the end everyone is either super smart or they're complete buffoons and it's near comical to see that someone like Light got defeated basically by someone that used their brain. It's not good writing because it was established that the only mistakes Light could make were the ones that were part of a challenge to himself (like actively participating in L's little games at the very beginning) or when he wasn't being cool-headed (like when he killed Lind L. Taylor). Him not thinking that somebody other than Mellow and Near could pose a threat to him directly counters the actions he took towards the FBI agent and what not.

@@brunomilocchi3897 It was Light’s arrogance. It made complete sense. Light thought so highly of himself especially after L died. He miscalculated Near, Mellow, his team, and those “right hand” people he used. He shouldn’t have involved that many people. And he enjoyed those games he was playing. He liked feeling smart and winning. In the beginning he messed up a few times and then he questioned himself, making his plan more solid. But after years of “winning”… he got cocky. Humans are super unreliable, but Light was so confident in his control over people that he lost. In the end, Light is only human and every human has flaws. Light at this point wouldn’t admit to being outsmarted. He also compared L to Near and Mellow. He thought they weren’t as smart as L which made him miscalculate too. A lot of people claim that it took "3 geniuses" to take down Light. As if Light was smarter than all of them.
I disagree. Light is extremely intelligent, but the only reason he lasted as long as he did was because he had a supernatural weapon and supernatural entities assisting him. Light wouldn't have beaten L alone in any other situation. Hell, for a majority of their cat and mouse game, L wasn't aware of the supernatural forces at play.
Light's ultimate downfall was his arrogance of course, but he'd have lost much earlier if he hadn't been bailed out of several mistakes and traps.
Some examples: Ryuk was the one to inform Light he was being tailed. He also used Ryuk to conveniently fool Agent Penber and find all the cameras hidden in his house.
Light was able to voluntarily wipe his memory of the notebook to wiggle his way out of the prison observation while also being able to transfer the notebook's ownership via an invisible shinigami listening to his code word while he would've been unable to do so in the cell.
The only reason L and Watari died was because L saw through the bluff of the fake rules. Light couldn't have done anything if he hadn't gotten Rem to do it for him, he still didn't even know their names.

This isn't the best episode mind-fucking wise, it's still decent, but death note has better, but it absolutely nails all the emotional aspects. I also really like how it shows that Light's downfall wasn't his intelligence at all, he wasn't actually outsmarted, it was his cockyness. It has been depicted throughout the entire show, but this might be the best demonstration. Light had outsmarted Near, he would've won, if Mikami hadn't screwed up. But that's where his cockyness comes to him, he believed that he could control other people. He trusted other people with the notebook, and with his life, which is something Light a few years ago would never have done. Is it because he miscalculated anything? No. Another thing that shows how cocky he has become, is that he didn't actually need to do anything. If he hadn't done anything, nothing would've happened, and it would've been sort of embarassing for Near, but Light couldn't allow that, he saw a chance to show his dominance over Near, and "win", which he is so obsessed with, and he couldn't resist it. He could just not have said "I win", and he could just have ordered Mikami to leave originally, with notes of all their names, should the Death Note not work. Some people don't like this, since LIght is way too smart to make such stupid decisions, but I really like it. Light wouldn't be a compelling character if he was always perfect. He's always been cocky, but he wouldn't have done this pre-timeskip. However, he spent 6 years alone, on top of the world with no one to challenge him, of course he would get insanely cocky. This is also why he slipped up a lot at the start of the timeskip. He hadn't had anyone to challenge him for years, he didn't think he needed to be careful about his actions.
Pre-time skip Death Note wasn't as good as before the time-skip, it wasn't bad at all, but I liked the first 25 episodes more. However, it solidified itself as a masterpiece, with the final episode being one of the best in my opinion.
Btw, I haven't watched the discussion yet, so I don't know if you understood this, but Light died in the middle of the stairs, symbolising how he didn't go to heaven or hell.

Don't waste your time on the Netflex death note movie unless you wanna break your monitor. Go watch the 2 part movie made by the Japanese in 2008. It has a different ending too.

Hope you upload more AOT eps now that you're done with this masterpiece. There's a manga about the post kira with new holder of the death note, its like a short story but still canon.

Of course no one can really outsmart light because he had shinigami “on his side” so what more ppl expect.
    no solutions can satisfy
Ppl who support light probably overlap with ppl who support

Ofc, since people who support those both are in support of "justice" and therefore support whoever is acting on and applying "justice". Its also called having integrity and sticking to morals.
Therefore: i will keep moving forward ... until i destroy ALL my enemies!

to be honest and of course I dont have a proof, but I really feel ppl who support both, many of them are just cynical ppl. not all , but I feel quite a bit
and of course coz we have been follow ing them for a long time in term of story telling and its human nature to be more comfortable.

      SPOILERS FOR AOT
I dont support either of those, but one is a clear psycho who desires power and gets a high off it lol which is very hard to relate to. While Eren so much more complex, he's doing what he's doing for so many reasons like an intense love for his friends and to keep them alive, a little bit of hated in his heart, and to seek that ever elusive freedom he's never gonna get. But he never wanted power or came off as a psycho to me, just a very troubled and tragic character. I feel for him, while all I feel for light is... well...nothing lol.

Then maybe, just maybe you wouldnt come up with so much nonsense in the end.
Being against Eren/Light means you are against the concept of "justice". If you are against justice, then you have NEVER the right to seek justice if unjustice were ever to happen to you, since youre against it.

Pls Guys This is a Request,
After finishing DEATH NOTE pls watch CODE GEASS, this show will show you how a perfect ending looks like. CODE GEASS theme is quite similar to DEATH NOTE like how Light got Death Note MC of Code Geass, Lelouch, got Geass (not really a spoiler this stuff happens in EP 1) , also Fun Fact both these shows aired in 2006 and in that year in JAPAN, Code Geass S1 was liked by more people compared to Death Note. And the major difference between these shows is that DEATH NOTE was more 1v1 Of Light and L (atleast initially) but Code Geass is more like Rebels Vs Empire. Also don't expect the same thrill like you did in DEATH NOTE. Like I have seen many people saying that Code Geass is bad because people asked them to react Code Geass after Death Note so they expected same thrill that they did in Death Note like hell, this is totally different show even though it is similar to DN doesn't mean it can provide you with same thrill. At last, pls react to Code Geass and even though you didn't do doesn't mean i will leave your channel, Bye Bye.
