What was from the manga that got cut in the anime of L's death was his last thoughts. When Light held him and then saw the look on Light's evil face this is what L said "Light Yagami... I knew it. I wasn't wrong, but I..." that look on L's face was both one of relief that he knew in the end he was always right about Light that his deduction was never wrong, but also regret since he didn't want to die. RIP L 😢
It wasn't deduction; it was intuition. Deduction requires hard facts or evidence and there was no hard evidence proving Light to be Kira. L's regret was that he wasn't able to prove it in the end.
Sometimes (alot of the time) this show is goofy as hell, but...
"Tell me, Light, from the moment you were born, has there ever been a point where you've actually told the truth?" This line hits hard.
Some people like Light, some don't. I personally love the unique idea of having the Protagonist be more of a villain. Very few shows go down that route and do it well. And the absolutely genius plan from the previous episode combined with this one was extremely well thought out. Light manipulated everyone, even himself. And it's a shame. We can see from episodes 17-24 that Light really was a different person without the notebook. He actually had compassion and cared for people. But power corrupts. And absolute power corrupts absolutely. Light cared for people. Light cared for L. Kira did not.
I was never on team Light especially when L died I kept watching just because I wanted to see if Light would fail in the end but whether you liked or hated him he was one of the most entertaining main protagonists in anime and arguably one of the most evil main protagonists in any anime and that made Death Note even more iconic.
Light is such a great protagonist, and such a horrible person. A lot of people struggle to make that distinction, sometimes, and think you have to like the person to enjoy the protagonist. He is proof of, as you say, how much power corrupts, and he becomes truly irredeemable so very very quickly. Love when shows pull this off.
I like Light but L is 1000% more likeable
Yet Light admits, when he forgets that he is Kira, that Kira's actions are very close to his own ideals. He could also still accurately predict and/or confirm Kira's actions based on what he would have done if he was Kira. Do you know why? Because he was always Kira, is Kira, and will always be Kira. I think the only difference is that when he got power, that subconscious part of him that is corrupt got the chance to dance and he let his better side die.

The roof scene confirms IMO that he knew. He just still couldn't prove it. That roof scene is my favorite in the show without a doubt. Also that scene after the cold open fashback, with L standing there and Watari asking whats wrong is so sad.
L definitely knew that light was Kira all this time that's why he told him "guess we will be parting away soon" if he didn't die and tested the death note it would be game over for light, RIP L 😭💔
I love kira so much for this episode, everyone is totally Sincere and open heart in this episode except him, from then on he becomes something other than a human being
Jesus washed Judas' feet, and it was a metaphor for forgiveness. Similarly, L forgives Light, knowing that he will die soon. Despite everything, he respects Light and forgives him for killing him.
L’s death has to be one of saddest in anime. Killed by the person he thought was his only friend
This is when the show goes from being a 10/10 to a 9/10. Don't worry the upcoming episodes are still great.
Just because of the several cuts from the manga, but the show is still a 10/10 for me. And the finale is way better in the anime rather than in the manga imho
For me it goes from 8/10 to 7/10. Either way, certainly worth watching though
@@kessler1476 I disagree. Mikami turning on Light and Matsuda's theory were two things that should've been kept in. Also Near eating a chocolate bar in Mello's honor was a neat touch.
The devilish grin at 15:20 is my fucking screenshot. The face of victory! He planned it to perfection. Every one just drops their head usually at that point cause they know hes scum but damn if he aint the best villain in history
Now you know why in some anime conventions people take out the "A" from the "Ladies" room.

I think the show is still great without L. I get it that the best character dying is a huge loss and it's a valid reason for some people losing interest, and I get that the anime cut out a couple semi-important pieces of the story in the post L arc. But it's not like other TV shows that harshly fall off after a main character or main writers departure, like this is not a post Micheal Office or Game of Thrones final season tier scenario, the drop in quality in Death Note after L is pretty minor and in my opinion still has a very satisfying conclusion.

I can’t say for sure why my heart is beating so wildly every time, but I presume that I perceive this death very deeply and as if it occurs in reality and before my eyes.I interpret his death as something that awaits everyone, and how often in the world there is injustice to the great and no matter how much they do and give, no matter what their goal really is, for some reason life is unfair to them.Living in complete solitude, constantly being in this tension, without sleep, they know the most terrible seal, the most vivid fear, and still they give themselves and their opportunities to the world.

I understand that people find it hard to believe and part of me agrees, just because for me L has always been big,but on the other hand it is quite realistic outcome(but god Oba, couldn't he really make the situation hopeless?)L does not give Light the grades of the notebook, so he is not a weakling at all.
and I don’t care about stupid Ram, except that she didn’t do anything special all the time, she killed L for some girl (she deisted as it was convenient for Light, and even worse, she only killed L at the request of Light.She could easily come up with something in favor of Misa and herself and would kill Light, because he was the one who got her into trouble, and she didn't know at all L
37:48. I like your reasoning .Yes it's really an allegory for Jesus and the test at the same time .L wanted to make sure that Light suffered from this handicap so he went down . Incredible and beautiful symbolism to me and it really touched me the first time .I want to see more in this scene .it's the only moment in their lives when they were so close to each other , they took their time away from the war and took time for each other , they suddenly felt like brothers , it's incredible .There is no such scene in the manga , this reference was added by the producer .How sincerely they looked into each other's eyes, and it was the first and last time, they gave each other these minutes, it's just unbelievable.As if Light understood the loss and wanted to treat L differently he was experiencing the pain deep down inside, but Kira prevailed in him and all the lies and deceit were automatically reproduced .I'm so happy to see them together, if only for a few minutes, at least like this, and see this tenderness of the deity even to the enemy, understanding him and goodbye. L could only look at Light with pity, he knew that he was almost completely blind, but the death of L gave Light the very last grain of light in him and it was embodied in this scene.

38:43 and fans simply have nothing to do so they assume that, originally I think the author is making fun of his characters and no more. It is sincerely pure feelings for each other under a thick layer of blind lies and betrayal in the face of Kira .
Kira was initially blind to feelings and didn't care for L, but, he was incapable of feeling love because there was a huge block in front of him. Intimacy, understanding, connection, connection they both felt, but not sexual attraction, that's for sure. Kira is Kira, which means that his goals are above everything else .L always seen Light as an enemy and as a rival, he wants to get him. Maybe he's interested in him as a person but I'm inclined to think not,because he doesn't know him, he just feels that they have something in common, that they are alike. He sees a part of himself in him and at the same time there is something hyperbolized and distorted and hurtful in Light that he can't accept. At the very least, they could be friends, but not in this universe, but perhaps in the fan universe. They are more committed to their views than to any feelings that might get in their way. Fans comfort themselves with their union and cry why didn't something )😏 like that happen in this scene. But at this point I would rather not joke, it really has nothing to do with sexuality, just something innocent, it's really exciting.

@@august3046 not really, ofc quality noticeably dropped, this is true. but it's not quate a mid, especially ep 36 and 37, light character is not complete, from this moment light's pride overcomes his intelligence, which will lead to his downfall and loss. but yes, L vs light is the best part of the show.
In the japanese movies he still dies tho.

Shinigami no longer have any reason to exist, rem took example on Jasper who was fascinated by missa, rem imitated him to give herself a reason to exist. You have to remember 2 two things to understand shinigami, they are disillusioned and behave like children (Because there are no repercussions to their actions).
Shinigami who can write destiny with their Death note are like the Author of a story, they are looking for a character who has A reason to exist.
Same thing about can be said for L. He’s just another person, nothing special about him enough to keep him living.

@@ghfXX For Rem L is not important at all. For Rem the state of the world is not important at all. For her humans are disgusting at all. The only one she cares about and wants to be happy is Misa. Even if it costs her own life.
The second half of the series has some of the best episodes of this show or any other anime I've seen.

Shinigami can't tell humans other humans names. It goes against the Shinigami code.
Theirs a rule that they can’t do that. Probably precisely because it would be away around that rule and the shinigami eye deal rule.
besides the rule thing, rem was also a threat to light (she could tell the task force he was kira and she could kill him anytime she wanted), so he needed her dead as well. if he killed l himself, he would have still had rem looming over his shoulder and affecting every decision he took in regards to misa. so, by having rem kill watari and l, light essentially killed three birds with one stone.

fun fact: nobody knows the real name or face of the author of death note. Also I tuned out after this episode because this was the ORIGINAL ending. the rest were just added to milk the series.
I was so hurt I stopped watching after this episode.
Yeah this is the point I lost all interest in the show, L replacements absolutely did not do it for me and I just didn't like the remainder of the show.
