    The thing that I think the show forgets to show is that Light spent 5 years uncontested, and so has lost some of his edge, and has not made the smartest choices. He is still super smart, but 5 years of free reign let him relax. When he first got the Notebook he was constantly trying to think of the best way to use it, and then L almost immediately publicly confronted him. Near and Mello were able to investigate Kira without Kira knowing about them until later, and so his small mistakes were amplified. That, in combination with underestimating Near and Mello, have lead to Light being put on his back foot more than you would expect from the first half of the show.

    In The Manga, we see more of Near`s human side,philosophy and repressed care for his SPK subordinates.Also Lidner is more of a mother figure to Near, frequently reminding him he`s his own person and not just L`s successor.

    Phones in Japan usually don’t have silenced camera shutters. It’s a law to stop people taking pictures of strangers in restrooms etc. In fact they usually have louder shutter sounds.

    I’ve only just now been watching your Death Note reactions and I love them! I’m glad you guys enjoyed the second half even though the anime did it dirty… if it helps for perspective, the two halves in the manga were the same length, however the anime gave the first half 25 episodes and the second half only 12. It really is a huge reason why everything seems to happen too fast, and your comments about not having as much time with the successors compared to with L.
    Near wasn’t only in it for the “game” against Mello, it was Mello who wanted to make it a competition. The anime did show the scene early on where they got the news of L’s death at Wammy’s House, and when Roger asked them to work together, Near said he was fine with it, and Mello was the one who stormed out. But the manga for sure did go more into their feelings about the whole thing. Both of them looked up to L too and I don’t think that was shown in the anime. The anime condensed everything and seemed to only keep in the “events” and it really hurt the second half.
    Either way, so glad I found your channel through wanting to re-experience some shows! (I watched your Squid Game ones too) Your discussions are so fun to listen to.

      yup, but then him connecting second-L to Kira at first was also a reach and calling out the 13-day rule was also a massive fucking reach on his behalf, it wasn't until he started questioning people out of nowhere, them going "ah, yeah, we did question Light", that he got some actual confirmation for his claim, but that was only after the fact.

      @@osmaniesquijarosa4308 calling out the 13 say rule is actually fair. Near knows that at least one of the rules is fake. The rules at the front of the notebook have all been seen to be true which leaves the 13 day rule and the notebook destruction rule. It's impossible to verify the destruction rule so based on the knowledge Near had, it's only reasonable to conclude that the 13 day rule is false

      It's explained better in manga. Anime took shortcut. In Anime, Near just entered supersane mode and found Mikami but he did investigate Kiyomi and her associates . Mikami did not only appeared in TV showing his strong belief in Kira but he met Kiyomi personally many times which made it way higher possibilities of him being X-kira. Also At that moment when Near goes ultrainstinct, its still an assumption of him being Kira that's why he made a agent follow him to confirm his doubts. It's been a long time since I watched this show so I might be off on some cases but overall that's how he found out.

    Light coming out to public as Kira would be impossible. L, and now Near and Mello are not a threat to Light himself, but to his identity. The government only bowed to Kira because they don’t know who he is, so they can’t stop him. If Kira reveal his identity to the world, the government would have nothing stopping the from executing Light.

    i kinda feel like the author or the anime's directors just forgot that you also need the face of a person to kill them and not only their name lmao💀 like mikami could've totally texted kiyomi the names but are they seriously trying to tell me he also managed to take a picture of each person without anyone noticing? especially because you can't take pictures with japanese phones without the shutter sound so unless he bought his phone outside of japan, everyone would've noticed. but even if he did have a silent phone, there's just no way near's agent wouldn't have noticed that he takes a picture and texts someone every time before writing in the notebook. they immediately would've known that he's using a fake notebook and making someone else kill the people. i feel like they either just forgot that you also need a face or hoped that the viewers wouldn't have noticed that what mikami's doing rn doesn't really make sense. and tbh it worked, i've seen this show about 15 times and until you pointed it out, i never really thought about this.

    I'm going to be honest, this is by far the worst episode of Death Note. A lot of people hate on Death Note after L's death, but I still think it's pretty good. I have three big complaints about it though, and this episode demonstrates them all perfectly. First of all, the story after L's death is completely rushed. In the manga it's about the same length, but in the anime it's only half. Second, Misa's character. She's completely pointless to the story, and is only there to be sexualized, and obsess over Light. Death Note has never been great at female chracters, but at least Misa was part of the story in the first half. And finally, third, the scene where Near goes avatar state. It simply does not make sense.

    • @PossessedbyPhoenix
      @PossessedbyPhoenix Před rokem

      I don't think Misa's there to mainly be sexualized so much as being comic relief. One issue with the second half is that all the plot-relevant characters are full SERIOUS BUSINESS mode and don't have the goofy moments L (and her) provided, so she's just there to be the goofy silly person to laugh at

  • @mitromney
    @mitromney Před 2 lety +10

    Honestly, this is where the show completely lost my interest. It feels so rushed and just loses all of it's intelligence. What, so not only Near knows exactly what Light is doing and how many accomplices he has without any data but he just watches tapes of millions of Kira supporters praising him publically over the years that's passed, which is like trying to watch 10 000 movies looking for a suspecious actor, and is able to fish out Mikami on first try, almost instantly, after hearing him speak once with completely normal tone? He wasn't even saying anything unique how isn't there a million other Kira supporters saying exact same generic praises on those tapes? And Light JUST gained an upper hand by picking him two episodes ago. It just feels like they're in a rush to finish in 4 episodes, at this point Near isn't clever, he is just 1 in a billion lucky.

    • @raveoreynolds6049
      @raveoreynolds6049 Před 2 lety +13

      The anime really did part 2 dirty. The kept all of the "moments" from the manga, but cut out the explanation for how they get to them. That might work for an action show, but not for one based around a mind game.

    • @mitromney
      @mitromney Před 2 lety +2

      @Spangello "As demonstrated many times, he understands his ideals perfectly and knows what actions to take without being told."
      While that may be true, there is no way for Near to know exactly what are the ideals of Light, he doesn't even know him like L did, he heard him briefly like 4 times. Only Light would know that. And secondly, how could he realize Mikami "understands Kira's will" from those two sentences he said? "I want to hear the voice of Kira" that doesn't even sound like Mikami is in tune with Light, if anything, what he said seems to be giving an opposite idea, that Mikami wants to know what Kira wants, because, obviously, he doesn't know it himself. I'm sorry, but that was still plain stupid. There is NO WAY Near would be able to find Mikami moments after Light picks him without script powers allowing him to. We're talking about pulling out a person out of billions of potential suspects in moments, based on a vague line. They could've at least shown Near tracking multiple suspects to let us know that he realizes he may be wrong. But no, of course, he is right on the first try. It's ridiculous.
      "Since Near knew that Light wasn’t in a position to talk freely, he also knew that the person who acted as the hand of Kira was someone with the same mentality."
      Once again, from Near's perspective, without any data, that's just a mere possibility. There is hundreds of options, and from all of them Near picks this one. How does he know Light doesn't control the detectives from his L squad? How does he know Light doesn't use multiple accomplices, or a whole network of people cooperating with him? How does he know Light himself isn't a front for an actual Kira? How does he even know that Light doesn't communicate with Takada ya know, outside of their meetings? It's not as if he is watched at all time, he can freely use a bathroom and contact Takada from some hidden phone or... anything. There is literally infinite possibilities if you have no data at all. The only reason why Near instantly knows what Light is up to and doesn't make a single mistake once is because Death Note series has to end in 3 episodes and Light has to lose. I just expected better from this series. It was VERY cleaver thus far and for a show that's completely devoid of action scenes it has to stay intelligent to the very end. Sadly, it really failed to do that with the finale. It really left me in disappointment.
