About the SPK agent with Takada: It’s never really shown in the show, but she was working as sort of a double agent, feeding information from Near to Mello. So when Mello pulled up, she actually does have history with him and she does trust him to a degree.
Man the shot of Mello hesitating and putting down his chocolate hits me every time I rewatch this show. It's like he realizes he's sending his friend Matt on a suicide mission, and it just doesn't feel right casually eating some chocolate right in front of him (I think the guy sitting across him is Matt). Also he knows he's probably going to die too, so he wants to treasure this last chocolate he has ever touched.
I didn't like Takada that much, but she did not deserve that 😧 I felt the same way about Mello. Did not like them to start with then loved them and missed them after this episode. I hope you guys watch Fullmetal Alchemist Brotherhood, I am sure you will love it!

Death Note is such a unique series to me. It's such a bleak world. And Light is such a unique character, especially for a Protagonist. Even morally gray characters would struggle with some of the things he does without batting an eye. But I think that makes him very entertaining. As the saying goes, history is written by the victors. If he loses, he'll be viewed as evil. If he wins, he'll be known as the hero of justice who wiped out crime.
Since you guys apparently finished the show already, and asked the question in this episode - Yes, the ending in the anime is different than the manga. Only slightly though. The overall beats and message are identical. So while I would recommend reading the manga simply to see what the anime cut out overall, if you only care about the ending, don't sweat it.
Light is definitely the extreme of the '''ends justify the means'' He knew that Takada would be captured by the police with the evidence of the Death Note, probably sentenced to death or interrogated by the police, so he immedeatly got rid off her before anyone could get any information from her. It's cruel, but the outcome would've been the same for her if Light didn't kill her, maybe even worse because she might've confessed everything when interrogated, and got herself, Light and Mikami sentenced.
Yeah but Light is clearly getting pleasure from this. Also burning alive is the most painful way to die. I don't think there's any justifying this behavior from a moral standpoint. Maybe logically.
It's cruel but it's the quickest way to get rid of the evidence so of course Light would do this as it's the safest way to keep the situation under control. I don't think he was thinking even a split second about her and her suffering because he was so absorbed in thought of how to solve this problem. Doesn't make it better but since she was a 100% Kira supporter I doubt that Light would have any positive type of feeling aside from relief for his own good by killing her in such a brutal fashion.

I'm sure many will tell you this, but the second HALF of the manga is the final THIRD of the show--so, I always recommend the manga because there's so much more of the characters in that second half, and the ending is executed much better. That said, I still love this show to death. It's so damn good, and I'm so hyped you're there! Can't wait to see the final two episodes!

Maybe that's why I felt that this show felt so weak to me post L compared to pre Ls death....I was just not attached to it anymore since they kept introducing new characters every 2 episodes lol. See the thing about this episode is that it shows that even people who support Light and think he's justice and that the world will be better for people who follow him, are totally delusional. If you want to see what actually happens to people who follow Kira, look at Takada. That's what happens when you let a psychopathic wannabe-dictator get too much power, they dont actually care about anyone who supports them, they just care about the power.

The next two episodes are some of the best of the series, but especially the last one.
