    This brings me back to when people in anime conventions would spoil this show by covering the letter "A" in the word "Ladies" on the door of bathroom stalls.

      I mean, the comparison is imagine you get this perfect steak as your main meal. It's great - perfectly cooked, perfectly seasoned, it just gives you bundles of joy with each bite. And it satisfies you. And then the dessert comes in and you expect something that will match the deliciousness of the steak, but instead it's just a shitty, dollar-store cupcake. Like it's not bad, it's just... meh. And you kinda force yourself to eat it, just to conclude the meal, but who gives a fuck. You'll forget it after 5 minutes, but the steak will remain in your memory forever.
      That's Deathnote, in terms of the final 11-12 episodes.

      @@VG-fk6nk You can thank the anime for that. They properly adapted L's half and then cut a bunch of content from everything afterwards. To give you some perspective, here's how the anime relates to manga in terms of length.
      L's half: 58 chapters -> 25 episodes
      2nd half: 50 chapters -> 11 episodes
      So It'd be more like if the chef took time seasoning the steak and cooking it to a perfect medium rare state. Then for dessert, they scrape off the icing on the cupcake.

    Loving the reactions and hype surrounding this show. This episode is more of a slow paced recap giving us L's thoughts on the events for the first time, and helps because of the shock of losing him, but as you noted it also is like a farewell to L as a way of highlighting his achievements during the show.
    A few things to note if someone else hadn't. All spoiler free
    Wammy's place is an orphanage founded by Watari and was used to raise intelligent children, with L being the greatest achievement from it. His true name is L Lawliet but the letter L is meant to stand for "Last one" or "Lonely one". In preparation for the death of L, the brightest from the home would be selected to take his place and they were named "A". After a while, A committed suicide due to the high pressure of being the one to succeed L. A 2nd child was then selected to succeed L and was named B for "Backup". This child was known as Beyond Birthday and was somehow born with shinigami eyes (no-one knows why). He defected from the home and tried to create an impossible crime that even L couldn't solve. This is even mentioned in the show with Naomi Misora when L says "she helped me with the Los Angeles BB murder cases". Its a light novel that's Canon to the story and is a really good read if you feel like it.
    Also, there is an extra episode for L's funeral and doesn't appear in the manga, so is anime only. I recommend to check it out.

    When you were talking about Kira's Will is now law, it seemed like you were under the impression Kira only killed mostly in Japan but this is not the case.
    The first days of Kira he was knocking off top criminals from all around the world which is why the world gathered in conference on the second episode because America's most wanted entire list just died as did big named ones in prisons.
    L is the one who notices the pharmacy robber with the hostages is a "small crime compared to the other victims" so Armed Robbery and Hostages are small compared to Kira's other targets and was done during the crime as opposed to after the report and this is why L assumes Kira is Japanese.

    • @luitjenapol2815
      @luitjenapol2815 Před 2 lety +1

      @@Omega6489 This is in Japan, I'm not sure if the system is the same as in the US, and either way, google it, you'll see I'm right, or the death not wiki is wrong. In the Manga, Light's birthday is the 28th of February 1986, which is pretty interesting btw. The first episode in the manga takes place in 2003. The anime is 3 years later, meaning Light would be born in 1989, so he would be 16-17 in 2006. I would guess it begins around fall 2006. In episode 7 it snows, which indicates we're close to christmas, and Japanese school years end in march according to google, so episode 9 might've been in late February 2007, before Light turned 18, then after the time skip we're around march-april, so we would have skipped past his birthday. I'm sure I heard them say he's 17 in the show too, but I can't put my finger on where or when.
      Edit: I just went and checked, and in episode 13, when Misa is looking at Light's profile on his computer, it says he's born in 1989, and we know the anime starts in 2006, so I am correct. Not sure about the whole senior situation though.

    This is one of the reasons of why I prefer the anime over the manga.
    The manga is much more direct about the fact that Light and L hate each other. Moments like Light seeing this ilussion of L sitting next to him, or the rain scene, or L washing Light's feet aren't in the manga.
    And those moments make much more ambiguous and richer their relationship. Because it kind of seems like they appreciate each other or that they're're aware that this is a lost opportunity to be friends, or that at least they respect each other as enemies for making everything less boring.
    In the manga otherwise, they're just straight up enemies which I guess is still good, but much more one dimentional considering that both were together (handcuffed) for like 3 months.
    The very ending of the anime (which I won't spoil) also has a subtle detail that makes you think that Light actually felt something for L further than just being enemies.

    Listen we all agree that Light Yagami is unhinged, but try to understand him from a positive point of view. Just like most of us, if we had the power to end the worst of the worst.... or at least me I would consider it. I mean from rapists to world class sadistic soulless criminals, when you experience or even hear about it from other people you can't help as a human but at least imagining yourself ending the suffering of other good humans and end the life of the ones causing it. Light made the notebook get to his head, deep down he always wanted to heal the world but that small part manefisted itself in a negative way because his brain didn't take time ti adjust to the idea of a Note that can kill from a distance. He loved the power of the note, he might've had a an evil side before the deathnote yeah like we all do but it wasn't enabled to this degree. it was supressed by his good consciousness. If all humans look deep down, trust me no one would even judge Light or the likes of light in the real world but say he's just lost his path trying to do good.
