2018 Mazda CX-9 2.5 SkyActiv Turbo FWD Full In Depth Review | EvoMalaysia.com

  • So I drove the CX9 again. But instead of the Australian spec that we received earlier, it's the Malaysian version with higher spec and lower price. Full LED, auto folding mirrors, iActivSense but the prices dropped by RM10k. This is the FWD, which i think the 2.5 turbo overpowers it easily, so better spend the extra RM10k to get the AWD instead.

    Got my cx 9 few days ago. I love it so much !! xc 60 not an option coz on and off I need 7 seater. xc 90 .. dunno but Volvo fans will disagree. I feel cx 9 is nicer on the driving dynamics compared to xc 90. Of course xc 60 is a class above xc 90 but not a 7 seater.

    Hi Bobby, is CX9 AWD better? Better traction? I also like CX9 (almost went to showroom after listening to you) but my pain points as follows:
    1. Lack of cargo cover when the 3rd row seat is folded. This will expose my bags and susceptible to break in.
    2. Lack of 3rd row air cond vents. Why? why? why? hot lah back there...no mobile phone charging points also.
    3. Lack of panoramic moon roof. Good to have as it can brighten up the interior but not priority.
    4. US has the signature trim with nicer nappa leather seats in red color. I don't think I seen it in Malaysia/ Singapore version yet.
    5. Turn signal not in LED where everything else is LED. Why? Why?
    If all these are in, then it is quite perfect. Maybe you could reflect these 5 points to Mazda if they asked for feedback from car reviewer like yourself.

    nice review bobby...what do u reckon of cx8 compared to cx9?

    • @BobbyAngmalaysia
      @BobbyAngmalaysia  Před 6 lety

      CX8 is based on the CX5, think of it as a CX-5 Long Wheel Base version. So it's narrower and lighter. The CX9's interior quality and sound proofing is not something the CX8 can match I presume given where the starting point is.

    • @BobbyAngmalaysia
      @BobbyAngmalaysia  Před 6 lety +2

      Relaxing you mean? The CX9 is quieter, the X5 has one of the most comfortable suspension. In terms of space the X5 is rather tight, but handling and performance and drive i think the X5 is better, albeit a bit more roll than I would prefer.

      Thanks Bobby. It is just a salesmen told me that after a while the FWD will somehow develop some noises from the tyre or suspension, I don't know what's it call. You know la, salesmen talk. I have made the booking today but still changeable tomorrow, I really appreciate an expert opinion here. Will it be too much of maintanance issue on AWD vs FWD? My wife only drive about 110 max and hardly accelerates. But if you tell me overall AWD is safer, then I will go with AWD. Apologise on long enquiries. I have been your great follower since you have been a CZcamsr

    got my CX9 3 weeks ago. absolutely love it. My problems with the car is as what you've mentioned in the video, low res reverse cam and the bonnet strut, WTH right? oh one more thing, the malaysian/aussie spec doenst come with Mazda Radio Cruise Control too, which is a really huge bummer. would have made my "balik wife's kampung" so much more pleasant if it came with MRCC. I would definitely recommend this car to those who are looking for a 7 seater SUV.

    • @BobbyAngmalaysia

      All cars have bad 2nd hand value now. But one way to know you have a better control is the sheer number of cars on the road. The more the lower the used value will be. The 2015 Merc E300 is now RM175k. The old CX9 had bad resale due to the huge 3.7 litre engine.

    • @BobbyAngmalaysia
      @BobbyAngmalaysia  Před 4 lety +3

      - 3rd row seats XC90 is wayy better.
      - Technology of infotainment system
      - Overall interior build and ambience (CX9's front passenger compartments are comparable and very well built, but second row and third onwards you will find XC90's consistency fare better than the obvious cost optimisation of the CX9 further back you go.
      - Handling CX9 is better but XC90 not off in anyway
      - 4WD XC90 better
      - Sound proofing CX9 is quieter than XC90
      - CX9's tyres are absolute rubbish and XC90 specced in the best SUV tyres money can buy.
      - XC90 feels like a proper RM750k (tax free hence RM420k) and CX9 feels like a RM500k car selling at RM300k

      Point 2: You said the RX is more relaxing to drive - that gives RX one point according to you.

      Point 3: You said the CX9 had engine issues, here's a link to 'a couple of RX owners having engine issues too - www.consumeraffairs.com/automotive/lexus.html); you see, that's why car makers give warranty. Saying a particular car has a few problems is like saying some KFC weren't seasoned well, it's a moot point. And if a few cars have engine issues means they cannot be compared to the RX, then would you compare an RX to a Cayenne or X5 or GLE? Cos I'm pretty sure those German boys have way more.

      Point 4: You said your stitchings are better. No one doubts Lexus stitchings, but if it were about differences in interior build, then may I raise you a Volvo XC90 or an Audi Q7? Where their differences in interior build quality (i say build quality, not reliability) compared to the RX is far greater than the differences between the RX and CX-9.
      All I get from your too lazy to type comment is that you're pissed someone said the CX-9 is straight up there with your Lexus RX - which to me, the RX is great, beautiful, luxurious, smooth running etc; but it's not the best car since sliced bread - neither the CX-9. But to see Mazda making a car that matches up to a Lexus, considering one is a tiny Japanese car maker while the other is a juggernaut, I give credit where credit is due.
      And from where I'm from, the CX9 costs RM300k, and the RX350L costs RM475k (divide by 4 to get USD).

    Lost me after you called the Passat amazing. I found even the Accord to be more fun to drive.

      Bobby Ang guess I don't. Driving (legally) like a sane person, I found the Accord more to my liking.

      Accord is a great car. Comfortable, smooth. But put it on twisty roads, the Passat will leave it for good.

      Hi bobby. I m split between this and xc90. Mazda strength, driving experience smooth and quiet. Xc90 a bit firmer ride. Volvo, the full safety suite auto pilot that Mazda can't match. Fuel consumption better with better performance dt phev. What would be your choice between these two.
