How to JUMPSTART a Dead Tesla (Quick Tip #5)

- Yes, older Tesla's have a regular 12v battery in the Frunk that can die overtime. If it dies suddenly you can't get into your car so you have to jump start the car by first opening the frunk
Hopefully you have the newer li-ion 12v so that shouldn't happen!

Chris , You were a huge help, the toe company I could not figure out how to charge, and I could not. But you explained it beautifully in 2 minutes
Chris I think you’re onto something good here - have been a fan for a while you have an uplifting persona and it’s always enjoyable… and the quick tips series is - so far so good! Keep it up my friend!
Kudos
Thanks so much! Will keep it up!
what are you using to jumpstart (ie the jumpstart battery kit you use). is that something that can be bought or can you use a 9volt regular square battery. yours looks a little easier/safer to jumpstart off
Thanks, it worked as advertised
Thanks this worked. Trying to get it in neutral to be towed is tricky tho. It seems I’ll need to have the frunk and all doors closed to put in neutral and keep
My foot on the brake
Thank you good sir. Last night I got stranded at the charge station. My car battery was completely dead and it was freezing outside and windy. Thanks to you and your video I was able to jumpstart my Tesla and got back to safety. Thank you again.
Wow glad you’re safe
You are a legend in our community. Thank you yet again.
You’re the legend
my battery jump started would be locked in my car...so how would I get inside to use if the car door is locked?
I also saw that if you can't get to your jumpstarting power brick (for example, you store it in the subtrunk), you can use a regular household 9v battery to pop the frunk
Cool
Don’t know about a 9 volt but I know a 23A battery works, which is actually a 12 volt. It’s way smaller and you can actually tie it to the wires for an emergency.
New Tesla Model 3 and Y have li-ion 16 Volt battery, not 12 Volt !!! So it need a 16 Volt DC source to jump start, is this correct ?
Thank you! You saved our day
Woohoo
what is the jump starter you use for your tesla, i just got my delivery but would like to have one in case of emergency
It’s in my accessories video but here you go! :) amzn.to/3Ov8jQR
I love these tips...keep'em coming!
Woohoo! The whole point is if you need it, search for a specific thing, and it’s a short video right there on the spot! Let me know if you have any questions! Not close to done but good to know!
Is there a certain amp jump started you recommend? I seen 1500, 200, 300, 4000 etc online so curious as to which one you used
Get it from costco! But no, nothing in particular
@Everyday Chris, I have a 2023 Model Y with the 12 Lithium Battery. I tried to use my tesla to help jumpstart another car that needed it but I could not figure out how. Do you know how? The set up looks different. Perhaps a new video 😊
U might not wanna use your Tesla to jump start another car. It’s frowned on with gas cars cause it could fry your computer. Since your Tesla is a big computer, it might fuck up your Tesla. Proceed with caution
Not sure if they changed the software to prevent this but past history showed a man went on vacation and left his car charging at home and
when he got back from vacation he found he could not open the car. If it is old code it was because charging is turned off when the main battery is full but the
12 volt then get depleted.
Good point. In ICE car, when I go on long vacation either I give my car key to my neighbour or friend to start the car twice a week or just take out the cables of the battery, so the battery is not depleted when I return.
In Tesla if your main battery has enought juice, but your car is sitting idle for long period then what to do with the 12v battery? Can you remote-start the car to prevent the depleting of the 12v battery?
Yah now the battery recharges the 12v when it gets low
Can you please recommend an affordable jump starter for my 2022 MYP?
Check out my 12v died video!
...My current Tesla Y uses the lithium battery that appeared last in your video. How can I tell the positive and negative electrodes? Can this battery jumpstart?
Please reply me, thank you very much
It’s a weird one. It should never need a jump. I’ll do some research
Love Tesla but I find it funny that must people keep a jump starter inside the car and we need it to access the 12V battery.
How does it work for the new batteries that come with tesla (lithium-ion auxiliary battery)
You can charge to 100 percent every night!
Hey. Is the charger you used in the video the same one that you have listed on Amazon. They look different. Thanks Stan
The fox speed one?? I gave that to my mom since she loved it! Ending up getting a Costco one
Thanks. Also love your tips. Being new to my Y they have helped immensely
Yay
Getting ready to get charger. So let me ask you this stupid question. Where do yo keep the charger, because if 12v is dead you cannot get into car to get charger right?
Yeah. Lol I keep it in the trunk. But won’t be able to use it if my 12 v is dead
Can you do a video as what to do with the trailer electrical plug not working. I bought a 2023 Y, my friend bought an identical one, both with factory installed hitches. We both get red trailer icon as soon as we turn the trailer mode on, with or without trailer hooked up. Then I checked the power to the plug, nothing. On both vehicles. We both use small utility trailers and everything works fine on our other cars. Any ideas?
Hnmmm. Service request???
@@EverydayChris thanks for writing back!, wow, really impressed.
Why is there no power to the hitch plug is a mystery, and after searching for2 days everywhere I still don’t have an answer. Please let me know if you hear some explanation, it will be very much appreciated. Have Tesla service apt. next week…but don’t really like having anyone ripping it apart…especially when mine and my buddies are just 2 weeks old.
Love your channel!
@@EverydayChris had Tesla service, had to take rear bumper off and do a hard reset…whatever that means, but they did fix it
Happy New Year brother!!! so long story short 😂 Prius died at airport last night ... Got it home this morning but battery died ... Wondering if it's safe to jump it with my Tesla model y 😂 dumb question but not sure gonna try something else first don't want to use my Tesla in scared 😨😳
Yeah should be fine! As long as it’s not the lithium ion
@@EverydayChris actually you recommended the foxspeed jump starter and it worked like a champ!!!! Can't say enough about you always coming in clutch bro!!! Big thank you!!!
Yay was going to ask if you had one as that’s way easier and better
Does the jumper come with the car? Or where can you get one?
No it doesn’t. If it’s bad you’ll need to find someone with a portable jump starter as the doors prob won’t even open lol. I keep this one in my car just in case amzn.to/3tDj8ci
So, as soon as you plug the jump starter, does the frunk releases?, if so how does the vehicle avoids the Frunk to be opened by a thief?
Yes. That’s a great question. The car still needs the key to open the door. But yes technically someone can open the frunk with a jump starter
@@EverydayChris interesting, hope the system does not work when the vehicle has battery, otherwise, even though you can not access to the interior of the vehicle , thiefs could still take parts from the Frunk area
The moment you connect the jumpstarter to the towhook cover lead wires, the car has some power to detect your phone, keycard, or fob.
If we need to jump start the car, would it also be possible that doors and frunk won’t be able to open, then having the jump start charge inside the car won’t help.
Yeah true. A lot of times it does let you in however just the car won’t let you drive. And if yours died I have one to help you haha
@@EverydayChris haha. Yeah!
Hi folks. You need a small 12 volt dc power source. Open the cover where the tow recovery ring goes. There's two connectors on the cover. Touch your plus and minus power to these connectors - red to red , black to black - and the frunk will open. Doing this does not jump start the car, only release the frunk. Some people have a small 12 volt battery with flying leads taped to the wiring here so it is readily available to use. You do not need a big jump start unit for this, just a small 12 volt battery. Next consult your user manual which explains how to do a jump start. Follow that carefully. You will need a decent jump start pack for that so maybe keep that in the frunk where you can get at it. Hope his helps someone. Best thing is to practice the trunk release procedure before it becomes necessary to do it for real.
I came here just to get a giggle and read all the comments of people getting locked out of there electric cars
Mine has the small 12V battery and there’s no negative terminal and the ground won’t work. Any advice?
You have lithium ion then
🙏😷
This is why I never leave anything in my front trunk 😢
I tried this today....it did not work for me. I couldn't unlock the frunk with the app or anything.
So what was your solution? Did you manage to open the frunk?
@@mateiluca6513 two tow trucks…one to get me out of the garage and the flatbed to take the car to a service center. Total cost go get to service center…$551 due to needing two tow trucks. Cost of repairs…$1000 and change. Not a good day.
Man sucks. I wonder why it didn’t work. That’s what it’s made for. Service visit for sure
Kept hearing a ticking noise from the frunk but it won’t open
Hmmm is your car on? Does it go away with driving?
@@EverydayChris not it’s at 0 km and doors won’t open neither the frunk will even with using the method showed in the video
@@Anonymous-nq2qy did you ever open your frunk?
@@kalila_mama yeah i did it just needed a stronger battery so a car battery will do the job
@@Anonymous-nq2qy Thanks for the heads up, my S died at the airport. I want to be well prepared when I land hopefully I won’t have to call for help. Were you able to drive your car afterwards?
this works even if the 12V battery isn't dead?!??
meaning anyone with 12V can open my frunk?!?!?
Yes I think so but not a lot of people know and have a jump starter lying around
@@EverydayChris a thief might have...
They still can’t drive anyway I think since the key is not nearby.
simple no tesla no problem
Your hood is already up 🙄
Just bought a tesla. Left it for first 5 days, now it's a dead brick and completely useless, nothing opens.
... such a dumb design.
You had to have another issue going on. I have not turned mine on for 3 weeks at a time and not had any issues.
Worst car ive ever owned. I will never, ever buy another tesla. Absolute trash vehicle.
