    I am really pleased that I found your video, I have been hesitant to pull the trigger on Virpil because the programming looked intimidating. This has also cemented my choice due to the quality and straight forward aspect of their product. A slight learning curve with programing everything I am sure, but between your tutorials and some trial and error it doesn't seem so bad.

      I find all of these more high-end devices to be a bit "work-intensive" when it comes to customization. But that's to be expected, when we're talking devices that offer a high degree of flexibility. I tried to dabble in TM's TARGET when I was still using the Warthog throttle and found it to be incomprehensible. VKB's software is also very powerful and rather cryptic to the uninitiated. Virpil's seems a little less intimidating, but it's still pretty complicated. That said: Both for VKB and Viripil you can get very good customer support on their forums and/or discord channels. I've posed specific questions for both my Gunfighter and CM3-throttle on those and always got solutions/instructions on how to achieve the behavior I was looking for. Also: I *think* Virpil have a pretty extensive manual for their configuration tool up on their website (in the support/documentation section IIRC).

    One extra thing, you have to be running the Virpil configuration software with Administrator rights. Its manifest doesn't require you to put in the Admin password so it is possible to run as a regular user and have things not work.

    GREAT VIDEO and VERY HELPFUL INFO !!!
    i'm brand new to DCS and have virpil systems. i have CM3 throttle/CONSTELLATION ALPHA w/ WARBRD/ and CONTROL PANELS 1 and 2.
    my hope is to not have to default to keyboard and mouse during DCS use, because i am hoping to work muscle memory for maybe 4 or 5 years and move into VR as the tech/cost become viable for me.
    i REALLY believe the use of the 5-WAY MODIFIER is a pivotal part of the equation for many DCS/VIRPIL users. having the ability to switch from (for example) "ground" to "flight" to "special systems" to "combat" to "landing" (on the 5-way) opens up a TON of control options as well as it being an integrated way to LINK all of the LEDs on the individual controllers. it REALLY would be a premier set-up (in my opinion).
    if this is possible NOW with virpil software... or CAN be possible in the future with their software... i believe it would be the optimal option to get all of the peripherals working as ONE... versus working with 3rd party set-ups including 'joystick gremlin'.
    would you please consider doing an in-depth video incorporating these items with a virpil system???
    thank you SO much and keep up the great work. you do a great service to the many noobies to DCS (such as myself) ✌🙂👍

    Jon, this video is exactly what I've been looking for as I've read about the many nightmares users face using Virpil's software. With that said, you stated that the CM2 is no different than the CM3. Would it be possible that Virpil numbered their controls differently considering physical buttons 44-45 apply to T5 vs T3 as mentioned in your video? I ask because if so, then I would be happy to use your video as a guide to setting up a CM3 Controller.
    I am new to flight sims and currently have the Virpil CM3, Thrustmaster Warthog, or Winwing Orion in my sights and I'm unsure which one I should purchase at this moment. Just ordered a VBK Premium stick and this will be my first HOTAS setup ever.

    Hi Jon. Thank you for the informative video. I'd like a video where you demonstrate the use of the mode switch on the CM3 throttle in conjunction with the Control panel 3. In my understanding, it will make possible for the push buttons to act as multiple logical buttons in DCS. I was thinking of maybe having one mode as take off/Landing, another for combat, maybe one for wing man commands in easy communications etc. Also, I'm curious about the 'Switch' function that you mentioned, maybe you can touch on that as well? Thanks, Thomas

    @frankenberry9670 Před 2 lety

    Virpil's software gives you great control over how your devices appear to the rest of your equipment. The problem is that if you have multiple games you want to play you might/probably need multiple profiles. This means resetting the configuration when you change games. Its not automatic and there is probably a limit to how many times you can reset the configuration. Given how good the hardware is that might be a problem in the future. Lg-Hub and Joystick Gremlin both offer per game profile loading and since they are software, not firmware, there is no load limit. LG-Hub is proprietary to Logitech so I lean towards Joystick Gremlin. The mode switch could be used along with a freaking complicated profile but I really wouldn't want to figure out and maintain it. You would also be limited to around 5 games. I'm still debating what way to go.
    I think there is a 128 button limit on USB devices. Some games have a limit of 32. As an example the CM3 Throttle has 32 buttons on the dual throttle alone, the other buttons aren't recognized by several games that I play. Some versions of the Virpil software allow you to "split" the button range so that Windows sees multiple devices with no more than 32 buttons each. Joystick Gremlin also does this using the vjoy driver. Add in slaving a panel to a Throttle or Joystick and things get difficult. Are there any other solutions?

    Ref. your comment on logical buttons and DCS. I struggled to get the last button in the logical button list to be registered in DCS. My solution was to map the last button in the logical list as a dummy button, as for me DCS registers all buttons listed after each other except the last one. Not sure why that is. Hope that made sense.

      At this time I believe you can only slave 1 device thru your throttle. I just tried going from ka-50 to cp1 with no luck. The problem you would run into is buttons. Windows will only recognize 128 buttons from a single device. My throttle and cp2 produces 120 after I set up axis to buttons I have 2 remaining slots. I recommend using a good powered usb hub. amzn.to/3ylTA5D I run 2 of these on my simulator.

    • @EbonySeraphim
      @EbonySeraphim Před 2 lety +3

      The issue with plugging directly into a motherboard is really a simplified rule to ensure nothing disrupts your USB bandwidth and power delivery during a critical operation. If you have an unpowered USB hub and are running a high bandwidth webcam, and maybe a high speed SSD or flash drives at the same time, you could have a problem. Rather than explain all of the those situations to examine and consider, it’s easier to just say “plug it directly into your motherboard.”
      If you have a powered USB hub, and aren’t sharing high bandwidth usage with something else at the same time then you have little to worry about. And if you’re past initial set up and not doing a firmware update you have nothing to worry about even if something goes wrong. The worst that’ll happen is a cut out / stutter in functionality. It won’t brick your device outside of a firmware update disruption.

    • @JGandT
      @JGandT  Před 2 lety

      I agree you want to plug straight into the Motherboard any time you do firmware updates. The reason for this is if you lose power or have a problem with a hub during a firmware update it could corrupt your product. This is true with any usb products not just Virpil. With that being said once you have your firmware updated you can make all controller settings with a usb hub. I highly recommend a powered usb hub, here is a link for the hubs I use. amzn.to/3ylTA5D I run 2 of them for my sim set up including usb powered screens and the only problem I have encountered was with my steel series head set and stream deck. Not sure why but those have to be connected directly into the motherboard. I hope this helps.
