The best portrayal of Sherlock Holmes was Jeremy Brett. It was on British Television and he is acknowledge as the best also he portrayed Sherlock Holmes in the correct period and the closest to how Sir Arthur Conan Doyle portrayed him in his books. Basil Rathbone was a very very close second.
Cannot say the same for Nigel Bruce as Dr Watson, in the books he was portrayed as intelligent and knowledgeable. Bruce's portrayal was for comedic effect. @@MichaelofOmaha

I cannot disagree. Having read all of the stories as a youth it is true that Hollywood took many liberties, especially regarding Dr. Watson. This series of 14 films is a treasure trove of skilled British movie making. Basil Rathbone and Nigel Bruce were more than just a good natural pairing of the roles of Holmes and Watson. They were seasoned professional actors of the highest order, the kind of performers the Brits were able to produce by the hundreds in that era. Of course, the production values that run uniformly through the series show the British mastery of the genre. I own a set of the films and over the years, I have watched each one at least a dozen times. Finest movie experience in years.

While I think Jeremy Brett was the best Holmes, I love these old ones. I love the sets, the costumes, the diction. It was a different time, a good time.

He was perhaps the closest to Conan Doyle Holmes. But no one had the class and authority of Rathbone...

In the garage scene, the gas is described as “used successfully by the Germans to get rid of their undesirables”. This means it was publicly known when the film was released in 1942, or even when the film was made in 1941, that the Nazis were gassing Jews and others in concentration camps. This is not the timing represented in historical accounts of WWII.

I can't find most of these clues SH deduces before he reads czcams.com/video/PSB2E-VFiHo/video.html
Only at the end does SH mention how he deduced who Dr S is czcams.com/video/PSB2E-VFiHo/video.html (so earlier on how did he know S was a doctor)
Another thing as far as locating Dr S, the convict was arrested within 15 min of committing the crime that narrows the search area down considerably.
      Sloppy

This is "Dressed to Kill," not "The Secret Code." No matter. As much as I like Rathbone and Bruce, I resent Holmes being used as war propaganda (as he occasionally was,) and rather prefer Jeremy Brett's Holmes, set in the correct time period.
