I never could understand why the producers of these films decided that Dr. Watson should be portrayed as a brain damaged old man that Holmes took pity on and became a live in baby sitter for.

@@CountGinula How am I mean for not liking how they portrayed Watson as a bumbling fool? Have you ever read the original short stories and novels? Watson is a respectable intelligent ex-military doctor in them. The Rathbone movies, except for Hound of the Baskervilles, are the only productions that show Dr. Watson to be a dullard. Hound of the Baskervilles actually did well by Watson. Then a different production company took over and placed the action during WWII.
