- One of these Milwaukee Rover LED flood lights is flawed with a major problem.
Has a problem that could easily make it a brick.
I use these lights on a regular basis on job sites. Since i am in a lot of IT closets and many of them are not what would see in a datacenter, lighting is often an issue. Lights have also proven very useful in low voltage work.
The 2108 uses AA batteries, and I would strongly recommend using standard alkaline batteries instead of the AA rechargeables mainly due to the voltage drop in the rechargeable. Normal AA batteries are 1.5 volts, and Rechargeables are mostly 1.2 volts, with some rare 1.25 volts available. If you're using two of them in series then you have dropped already .5 volts when using 1.2 volt models. The 2108 belt clip can easily turn and knock off the head / cap where the batteries are stored, making the light useless without the cap. I've lost this cap before, but was lucky to find it. Many others may not be that lucky. Due to this I rarely ever use the belt clip on this light now. This issue could be easily fixed by Milwaukee if they shaved maybe 2 mm off the front of the cap.
Both lights have two magnets. One on the top, and one near or on the belt clip. The ones on or near the belt clip are relatively useless, and shouldn't count as being there.
The Milwaukee Red Lithium USB battery is holding up well. Rated for over 2000 cycles. It's not cheap, but is nice to have rechargeable battery, even in the light itself. Better pro is that the rechargeable battery is easily swappable for an instant swap to a new battery. Keeping one charged seems to be a good way to go.
Both lights are well used in many situations and once I found they would easily stick to the corner bead of drywall on a finished out, making it easy to put out some decent area light in a brownout situation. They are both EDC (every day carry) for me. One in the tool box, and one in the pack.

I’m glad someone else noticed how easily that end cap pops off. Dumbest design ever, and clearly not field tested prior to production and release. I REALLY wanted to love the smaller (AA version) light, but the cap deign was a deal killer. If not for that, it would be the perfect light for what I do. And you’re right, it would be a really simple fix, and they’re called THREADS. A screw-on cap would have been the way to go. I tried the big rechargeable light, but it’s way too big for a pocket (and like you said, it has an entirely unusable clip), and I didn’t want a third battery platform to keep up with. Milwaukee makes great tools, but they have a bad habit of overlooking obvious defects (like the end cap) and making really asinine design decisions (like the belt clip). I’m not so sure it’s not intentional sometimes, perhaps because they’re so inwardly focused on the brand and can’t be bothered to ask the people who will actually be using the tools what they think. I have a hard time fathoming how a company that’s on the leading edge of power tool and lighting technology can let things like that “slip through.”

never had a battery drain issue. I had an issue with the button or it's ability to stay on.

I am irked with the standalone charger... the battery is annoyingly difficult to remove. It should be as easy as removing from the light.
I had both, kept the AA battery version. The larger USB rechargeable would only last about 4hrs per a charge for me. Could not get through a typical job or work day. The AA version last much much longer and if it dies, I always have spare batteries with me. Either one is plenty bright for working in a closet or under a car.
if you constantly use the double AA"s ,the push button will fall apart.
That is the one plus to the AA model.. Everyday Commodity batteries...
If you rotate the belt clip all the way to the side it doesn't pop off.
Mine turns off after 10-30 seconds.. even with fresh batteries.. kinda snnoying
Yeah I have one that does now. It's a piece of crap. Milwaukee needs to recall them and give replacements, but they don't.

Return the bad one to Home Depot, they will give free replacement.
This keeps happening to me. I’m on my third one using warranty at Home Depot, but it’s annoying to constantly have to replace it
And the switch is flawed turn it on and light shuts back off after 2 seconds
The clip is removable.
I've used two sets of double aa's - i havent experienced the problems everyone is talking about with the cap popping off becuase i have it in the same spot all day long its entire life - it was an emergency light near my nightstand if all else failed.
HOWEVER what is the problem is the CORROSION - fucking nuts - like a lot of it when i do take the cap off - i was shocked until i saw that it sucsk in all other categories too. Geez i hope I didnt buy a bunch of these when they were doing the bogo a few months back.....

I have the larger one. It works ok. Don’t like the run time. They need to make a m12 light that is really small. To easily fit into a tool bag or hang from a carabiner. The m12 lights last for a full day or two per charge. Easier to charge with my other m12 tools. No need to hunt down a micro usb cable and adaptor.
The big problem with the large one... the belt/pocket clip is garbage, and it breaks off easily...
Agreed; and I'll go so far as to say the magnet on the end is not that good. Looks like the magnet system on the AA version is improved a bit.
