Filler cap DIY tutorial:
1) Locate filler cap

See, I like this, but the chain drive and current frame design sketch me out.
I'm know I'm overthinking this, but do a custom tube steel frame conversion on Gary with a proper firewall and safety cage, then mid-ship K-swap it.
You'd lose the backseat but gain insane power to weight...think even smaller Ariel Atom.

Put lighter batteries like Lipo batteries in Garry and a new larger motor for more horse puppies
And more voltage for the motor, the motor should have more cooling fins on it

There's a Fiat 500 (the proper old one) Convertible near me that's been turbod. But the best bit is it's had a wind up handle like an old dinky toy (to scale) attached to the engine cover with a motor which makes it turn.

A genuine interest of mine would be to put a cheap bike engine in a G Wiz to make a super fuel efficient car. Everyone jumps to hayabusa engines but I think something like a CB500 would be mega fun, sound decent for a car, and do 50-60mpg. It also wouldn't cost the earth to buy, and you could probably have a quickshifter, which would be very sick fun even with 50hp.

You see, I drove one of these over 15 years ago, and of the around 45 to 50 different cars and vans I've ever driven, this actually ranks *better* in several aspects, than even more higher quality cars, such as VWs and VW group cars, as well as some Fords, Fiats, Renaults etc.
Parking is extremely simple, it costs literally PENNIES to operate, charging is very easy indeed, shopping can be loaded even while carrying a single passenger, a third person can fit in if sat sideways in the back - basically, it's absolutely fine for getting what you need in and around town.
Top Gear took the p*ss out of this car (well, only Jeremy Clarkson to be honest), and it was just G-Wiz-bashing really.
People never really gave them much of a chance, but instead treated them with contempt and ridicule, so they ended up a "joke" to own, when that wasn't ever the case.
Try running a modern day VW Golf - I was using one last week, and it felt unnecessarily excessive for what I needed - more expensive to run, more things to go wrong, higher repair and refuelling costs, and I almost felt as if the car was making its decisions for me (automated processes).
@@letsdiscussitoversometea8479 I had a Sinclair C5 lol when I was 12 and would rather have that. If you crash in the GWIZ you are dead straight away.
Probably good for places like Catalina USA where there are virtually no cars at all and everyone drives golf carts about but apart from that you wouldn't get me driving one.

Then again, I do like Sinclairs in general - particularly the Spectrum, so maybe that isn't a surprise.
Never driven a Sinclair C5 - I suppose it's one of those bucket list things to do.
I can definitely see how that would have helped a 12 year old, though I was under the impression you had to be at least 14 to drive one?

Was watching another channel, Calvins car diary, and he put a Tesla battery in his GWIZ. Was pretty simple to do by the looks of it and doubled the range and the car was 200lb lighter.
Put a gsx 1000 engine in garry or a hayabusa engine, would be amazing to see that

I’ve had an idea for Gary: strip away his body panels, lights, doors and windows etc until your left with the steel frame construction that sits underneath then turn that into a buggy style go kart.
switch all the batteries to lithium ion, it would weigh a lot less, discharge faster and increase acceleration

I've owned several G Wizzes! I think they're a load of fun in a city. If the charging system plays up, just disconnect the EMS. The old lead acid batteries can handle a bit of overcharging . .

@@letsdiscussitoversometea8479 I quite agree. I found my GWiz was amazing in the city, it could park in spaces that even a Smart car would pass on, tiny turning circle. Good stereo, nippy enough, very cheap and simple to work on, the 2CV of electric cars.
Look up the original advertised range and top speed etc. and see how close you can get. Then make it a stance car.

Edit: Just checked, these babies have 9.6kwh of batteries stock with 48v output. the kwh figure is actually not terrible, and would cost a lot of money if it was with lithium ion batteries

I think they did something similar on top gear (actually it might have been Brainiac). They raced an RC car with it and apparently batteries and tyres were the only mods they needed.
@@4039byrne Apparently 80km and 80kph, at least that's what a local Ad says....
Supposedly it has 224kg of batteries... If you were to fit say Model S modules at ~5Wh&25kg each - you could quintuple the battery capacity to 50kWh :P. So perhaps it could about 250 miles!.
You could also reach the original 10kWh battery capacity with two 5kWh&25kg modules - weighing less than 2 of the 6V lead-acid batteries and thus making the car about 175kg lighter :P

The British MOT system is so much more comprehensive then our inspections in even the strictest of states in the u.s.
Atleast half the vehicles on our roads would not pass the tests you guys adhere too.
And the MOT isnt even as strict as the TÜV

Ich find's nämlich okay die strengen Regeln einzuhalten wenn ich 300 Kmh fahren darf nach meinem belieben, weil das halt einfach mega Dangerous ist, wenn die Technik nicht stimmt - zumal wenn man heute so viele Autos kaufen kann die das Serie schaffen

Looks like the motor is integral with the back axle, and the chassis is just a straight box section
So, build a 4x6 out of both of them, ie two driven back axles, with the back half of Gary stuck onto Barry!!!
Make an RC car out of Gary then race the two of them on a track. Passenger controls Gary.

When you remove the old filler cap, if you just hold it in place and drive the new g-wiz up to it, have you replaced the g-wiz and not the filler cap?
I bought a replacement windscreen - with a heavy quadricycle attached! That just cracked me up. And yeah I reckon there's probably not much difference in price between buying the windscreen and the entire vehicle. And the beauty is now they have a whole car they can cannibalize for spare parts which will surely be needed.
Needs a crate HEMI engine. I don't know where you guys would sit, but it would be a nice very expensive laugh.

I'm repairing an 07 plate one for a friend(with a very similar registration to the one that appeared at 8:25) that could do with an energy management controller (version 1.15AC) and battery fan so it will charge properly, if those parts are going spare!
The OBD connector is an RS-232 serial port, have you managed to get hold of the software for it?

Build Garry into a trailer - insert a pile of additional batteries into him. Pop a little generator in with a small fuel tank - along with some control systems, and see if you can get from London to Glasgow faster than a public transport. Something that can be done on a Car Throttle budget and make good content.
Get the whole thing wrapped to make it look like a Ford Focarse RS too.
You could also swap the motor out with one from a Zoe or a Leaf. - Whack some Lithium in there too. Make the fastest Gee-Wizz.

Interesting to see how detailed MOTs are in the UK. Here in the US, our inspections are very forgiving. I've seen cars with holes in the floor and busted windscreens get passed no problem, especially if you slip the inspector a 20 dollar bill.

Increase the voltage, usually motors are rated for a max but not used up to that, see what the best top speed is and of course check your 0-30 times.

My god the amount of inspection just to get a MOT is insane. In my state they don't care if it has 4 wheels they will take your money and give you a sticker
Seems very similar to our WOF (Warrent of fitness) inspection in New Zealand.
