The thing is even if they did nothing that car could go for 1500 now they know it has a few extras and with a few grand its could be worth over 4000 so if they did the work even at the garage they would make 500 without it going up if they don't restore it they are mad

@@Eddie1992uk I agree, But I can tell you what happened to a couple of them. £1 Volvo is being used by alex, he brought home some patio bricks with it as can be seen on his instagram. Streetka was rusted to shit so it was scrapped after being parted out I believe? A4 was used by Jack for a while as a temporary replacement for his golf, Before being sold. Blue mr2 is a mystery though, so much for a build series. E46 compact is probably still knocking around.

I bought my 1990 G-Limited NA MR2 on my 18th Birthday in 2014 for £580, absolutely loved it and actually didn’t crash it, had it until last year when the rust was just too much, still managed to sell it for £1250 but it’s not been MOT’d by the new owner lol

Andy was describing literally every issue I came across with my MR2. So glad I sold it, though it was great fun to drive when it worked.

I have the mk1 and apart from rust it has been a very reliable car. It isn't great to work on, but you don't have to work on the engine all that much.
And there isn't much that drives like this, so much fun.

The mk1 is the best MR2 if you ask me, it looks the best out of the 3 and everything can be done on it at home. I had one years ago and one could even change the timing belt on it without any special tools. I miss mine but I sold it back then because regular diesel family cars would out punch you at mid range speeds lol

"Rare + Weird + PITA + Nightmare" = Expensive lol.
So the car is stock aside from the oil cap and aftermarket steering wheel, great investment there by the previous owners. Removing the most important airbag for aesthetics, always a solid choice.
Wouldnt be surprised if it didnt originally have an airbag, especially if its japan spec. Its a 1990 model car
1990 SW20 didn’t come with any airbags as standard. Remember this car is 31 years old. But yeah, that steering wheel is not the one.

you can get a reinforcement plate for the weak sway bar mount area, I believe the Suspension Techniques branded ones come with a reinforcement plate as part of the full front/rear kit.
Starting to wish that they went for the red celica instead of this when they had the decision (just seeing the grey st185 in the beginning)

I would love to see you guys dropping a 2gr-fe 3.5l V6 into that mr2. Alot of parts can be sourced from other contempory toyota models like celica, camry and even hilux (headlights atleast). Mr2s has such potential to become extremely fast and fun to drive.

Yooo I just bought mine at 16, it’s a 1991 manual Japanese import, sorted out a place to keep it and work on it, (local garage mechanic letting me use his tools lifts and knowledge). So hyped
I have an 86 Nissan fairlady turbo T top 16 left here and an 94 100nx T top 65 left here never had a problem getting parts for either of them in Japan.
Please please please turn this mr2 into a project series!!

From memory, the manual gearbox is the same as the Celica gearbox of the same years. Just the linkage mechanism is different.

Don't remember the last time I saw an MR2 (of this mk) on the road, these were everywhere in the 90's! Cars were so much cooler back then - please resto this one properly :)
Sounds ok just need a kswap manual conversion after the other stuff but a grand to put it right is not bad then sort paint / underseal and you have an ageing classic

If you are doing shocks it would be good to see you put some lowering springs or even better coilovers on it. Then set it off with some nice staggered wheels seeing as you have to replace tyres anyway? It would be great to see one tastefully setup by you guys.

I saw this exact same car in Hanwell 1 day after watching this video 😆 I'm a happy man. Got a few pictures of it.
Back in the 90’s when these come out I tried to race one in my tuned up Grand Am GT 5 speed! Well he drove around me like I was tied to a stump, when his boost finally did come in, 😂. Up till then, I thought I actually had a chance, then all of a sudden he just drove away out of sight! 😳 my first experience seeing a MR2! 😂

The big japanese scene boom in North America is due to the restrictions on importation of non-approved NHTSA cars, which includes right hand drive cars, certain Eastern European cars, and certain Canadian/Mexican cars. The rule is you are NOT allowed to import cars less than 25 years of age that do not meet the NHTSA safety requirements and since it's now 2021 you start getting into the great Japanese cars of the 1990s that we can start importing: Toyota MR2, Nissan GTR Skyline, Mitsubishi 3000GT, Honda NSX, etc.
You forgot the t-bar seals, they are leaking always and them rusty parts are inside the door pillars and rear wheel arches. Other than that pretty solid MR2!
