This is such a great video. You guys should do a flipping cars challenge. from £500 to £5000. a long term series where you take cars like percy, love them and sell them on and so on until you hit the 5 grand target. Then donate it to charity or give the car away to a lucky subscriber!
Yeah. I really enjoyed the previous flipping series.
They did something like that already search up car throttle car flipping challenge
They recently did this with Rory Reid.
Been done, do keep up!
Yeah I know they recently did this with Rory. And I really enjoyed that. Whilst that video series was great, It wasn't long enough of a journey in my opinion. Also to include the viewers in some aspect of it would've been really cool. It was just an idea :) every single video the CarThrottle guys make I enjoy greatly! I really wish there were daily upload 😂. Keep up the great work!
I love this because a couple of years ago, I was looking to buy my first car and I did just that.
I didn’t have much money and was trying to keep the car under £1000 and was fixated on a fiesta but then it just sort of hit me: all i need is a run about.
So I went on gumtree, searched “car” with a filter under 1000 quid and below 80,000 miles and I found a mitsubishi colt with 52000 miles on the dash covered in dents and scratches and a bad interior with what looked like a replaced boot lid. It had no service history.
But they are known to be reliable and the main stuff seemed to work well. No dodgey oil residue or anything and the cams are chain driven.
So I bought it and took it home. I forgot to service it for two years and it hasnt put a toe out of line. Passed every mot and had no major issues at all. I cleaned him up and fixed the little issues. It’s been a very rewarding car to work on. I did my first oil and filter change and insulated the doors. Next is brakes!
The mechanic told me that it was so healthy mechanically and i got a great deal.
I love my shitbox and I will drive him for years to come.
Matt, what you described used to be normal attitude about cars in general where I come from and hopefully still exists to a degree. Cars used to be “judged” on milage and reliability and not how new they are. This stupid (for me) new approach is only because people lease cars more and more because they want a new car to be cool or whatever. I always respect older but well maintained cars with high milage. Anyway good luck with yours. And don’t call it a shitbox 🙂.
Well the mechanical part is in your name too!! :p
@@theflorator9520 glad you agree and you should see the car - it looks a little shitty hahahah.
I prefer to call it “character” (picture doctor evil making quotation signs) and it’s earned a name - Pippin
@@F.R.M-Eersteling doing what I can to live up to my name

I don't like buying new cars to look cool either. When I buy new, it should be cheap as hell.
Edit: it should be a small car too. Something like a chevy spark.... Small and cheap.
Alex is so short, when he was standing next to the car I was thinking its a Tiguan :D

20:36 that reveal was beautiful, and the message at the end, doing this so it doesnt end up scrap, was really wonderful. Well done guys :)

Loved this. Bought a $1000 USD car 3 years ago as a joke. Cleaned it up just like you guys did, did some maintenance, and now I drive it EVERYWHERE.
Those macro shot are incredible, well done Ethan 👏
I bet that's a Jack thing

Get so excited eveytime I see an upload notification from CarThrottle. :)
The choice of Clair de lune was perfect! 👌🏻
🎹🎹🎹🎹
From a detailer such as me it came out perfect.
Lovley interior to do many more miles for somebody on a budget, cheap, reliable, decent looking for its age and very well detailed :D
Great job Alex!
I had a 2004 v6tdi auto estate about 10 years ago and I loved it, bought it from a local Ford garage that took it as a trade-in, two days after I bought it I noticed the timing belt hadn't been changed in the service book, took it back and told the actual garage owner (well known for great customer service) that it was overdue a timing belt (just hit 80k) and he said it should have been done before I picked it up so bring it back Monday morning and he will make sure it gets done so I dropped it off on Monday and they gave me a brand new Mondeo to use whilst it was getting worked on, 4pm I get a call from the owner saying the job was way more involved than they first thought so it would be a few days until it was ready, got a call on the Friday saying it was ready to be picked up so I went to get it and the mechanic himself told me it was the worst timing belt job he had ever done then he showed me photos of the entire front end off the car.
Wow, that's a difficult one! No wonder it hadn't been done. It's like the Spark Plugs on the Rover/Honda V6's
I now have 2.5tdi too, changed timing belt myself and it was not so bad but, yes, front end need to go off anyway. Nowadays a lot of cars need to have whole engine out when changing timing belts because they have it on back side. Those are horrible to do.
I guess he's never changed a timing belt before then. Changing them on a VAG V6 always requires to make some space in the front, it's even normal procedure per manual. It's not like the 4 cylinder engines where it's a quick job without really removing a lot. Same goes for taking the tranny off, easy on most 4 cyl engines. I only know VAG Cars but I guess it's the same for many more.
And to remind, the 3.0 v6tdi engines have the timing chains in the back of the engine. So it's engine out when the chains need to be replaced (every 200 000km or so). So the timing belt service on those older 2.5 v6tdi engines is piece of cake. I've owned both, and still have A4 B7 with 3.0tdi.
20 years ago I was blissfully watching Big Brother, Supermarket sweep, Noel Edmonds House party and Gladiators on TV
I've just watched a 30 minute CZcams video on cleaning filth from a car interior and can honestly say my viewing habits have increased 10 fold in those 20 years 👍
I'm surprised the front suspension arms (all four of them) didn't get a mention or a check. They're not cheap to do properly and are basically a service item on this chassis (and its A4/A6 contemporary brethrin)
The content you produce is phenomenal. First the shots, then the music and in the end you can see the effort put into editing. But your dedication to the project is EXCEPTIONAL. You are my favourite channel period!!!
Brilliant job on Percy lads,
Didn’t think that interior was do-able!
Love the content from Car Throttle! More please!👍😊
Takeaway just arrived perfect timing haha
Good to see Edwin again, we need more of the social team! Transformation on the car is impressive, the outside looked really sharp as well. Great effort, and great production as always
Absolutely love this one guys! Enjoyed seeing another VW on the channel, the clean up was amazing and the message at the end was spot on! Good on you!!
There are very few things more satisfying than seeing a car restored.
Amazing camera work and editing on this video, those macro shots and the reveal especially. Really interesting seeing you all shine a spotlight on overlooked used cars. Good work guys.
Never thought I would smile along watching a video about a Passat. CT crew please keep making these contents.
They are so damn good.
Brilliant, just brilliant! Awesome trio as always, wonderful work, plus terrific shots, fantastic editing, splendid content! Incredible!
Thank you for bringing back this beautiful Passat back into shape, hopefully it will serve many years to come for someone that loves it!
Great video and superduper editing 🙂 As a car detailer myself this is almost eye watering to watch. Cudos to you, guys 🙂
Well done. Exactly the right attitude towards older cars. Love this ❤
Thanks boys, having a bad day and this put a smile on my face several times.
This channel just continues to get better and better. It's actually one of the things that sparked my love for cars about 6 years ago I found you guys.. Had never really had much of an interest in cars, I watched a few videos on CT and got hooked. Now I have my own shitboxes and I love them all lol
Literally one of the best vids I've seen from this channel (with the 2nd best being the previous video!) - Please keep on a roll, this is amazing to watch!
Fantastic video, I really enjoyed this! Just goes to show, as Alex said, if you put a bit of love into a dirty old car, it can come up quite nice! Great work boys, loved the banter as well in this. Keep up the awesome work!
These generations of Passat and Golf are the best cars that VW ever made. They are absolutely bullet proof.
This before and after is just amazing and satisfying to watch! Amazing work
These series are honestly so entertaining! I can't wait for even more lol
Those Zoomed in Camera shot of the dirt and grime in the interior, really spiced up my Breakfast! Thanks for that
I love watching old beat up cars come back to life, cheers Car Throttle!
Always loved this model Passat, especially the Sport model. The doors had such a satisfying 'thunk' when closing.
I like Edwin, more screen time please (if he fancies it, don't force him or anything weird).
16:32 the monment edwin came out and stand next to alex , it's pure comdey gold hahhahaha
No no, force him it makes it much better!
Car Throttle has been killing it lately!! Love from Canada!!
Thanks blokes! For fixing and saving old shitty cars and make extraordinary content out of it! Keep up the good work!
The best cleaning montage ever! Hollywood needs to include more cleaning montages like this!
Those spot cleaners are excellent, we have one for small cleaning jobs around the house and car!
Excellent work guys well done
These are the sorts of videos that I love, you can keep the supercars. Keep these coming guys!
I love that you cleaned it properly by taking the seats out etc
Yep, 100% agree.
I'm currently driving round in a 140k Freelander TD4 (with propshaft still connected!) that cost a grand. Had it 6 months and it hasn't missed a beat.
Percy cleaned up really well tbf, shame about the saggy door fabric but the interior looked really good 👍
Great Video. My first car was a 12 year old J Reg (1992) Mitsubishi Colt CA in very faded red. Brake lights didn't work and it cost me £500 which I paid a colleague for in instalments. I T-Cut it, waxed it, back to blacked it, changed all the lamps, bought clear side repeaters and cleaned it up to the point it looked brand new. I've had many cars since but haven't loved any car as much as her. Love a car and it will definitely love you back!
Fantastic!
What a transformation, I love seeing underdogs like this get proper treatment. That Passats got another 270k left in her yet
I bought an older version of that Vax machine about 17 years ago, along with a steam cleaner. Both still going strong. I have cleaned my way through at least two dozen cheap cars with both. I have removed not just the seats but carpets too out of a couple of cars they were so grotty. Great video👍
I did similar work to a super dirty Citroen C4 from 2006. When was that last cleaned-i don't know, but it had some pre-euro coins that haven't been used for about 10 years.
I also changed the gearbox leather by myself. Bought some leather and did some sewing. It didn't turn out perfect, but I like it.
Had one as my first Company car - loved it and still think it's a lovely looking car.
Great work guys!👍👍👍
cracking content , camera work and production ! love it
These videos are outstanding mates, the only complaint is that you should post more often. Thanks a lot from Barcelona.
Bruh these vids do take alot of time to make
Car Throttle. I love the Passat video, and every thing you've done over the years. We had one of these as an estate many years ago and loved it. My Wife works in ITU for NHS and has had a crappy few years as you might imagine, on top of which her trusty civic is dying and she desperately needs a new car (we live 25 miles from the hospital, so need to have something we can rely on, if only for a short while). I'm not asking you to gift this, or anything daft, but when you come to sell, please think of us. I'm also NHS, born and bred, having spent 30 years in Radiology hunting cancer and various other nasty things.

Well done on excellent job I am in car valeting buissness for many years and it's a always a great pleasure to bring back a car like this it's also extended its life and is helping the environment and joy on customer that gets back a car is amazing so well done lads it's hard work as I know but sastifiy ing
One of your better videos guys, well done to the guys who sat and tackled that interior.
Every single detailing video claims to be the „dirtiest car ever“, but this is no doubt among the Top 3 most revolting interiors I’ve witnessed. Really nice transformation, and also the ultimate confirmation for me to finally buy one of these extractor vacuums. My new 600€ Toyota shitbox doesn’t look half as bad as this, but I’m very excited to see how much better I can make it look before our 5000 km trip to Romania, also inspired by your NC500 challenge 🤩
One like Alex's, will never get sick. He's like immune to even a poison.
Truly a racer 👍
Great video guys, thanks for featuring the SpotWash, looks like it's done a cracking job!
Wow! Amazing transformation guys, really, incredible job. Just goes to show what a days hard work and elbow grease (thks Jack!) can produce. My Dad had this exact same model and colour as his final company car. He liked it so much he bought it from the company when he retired and put 280,000 miles on it before selling it to a French student who filled it with all her stuff and moved from London to Lyon in it!! Some say, it can still be seen late at night on the Lyon Peripherique.......
Good stuff lads, love to see cars getting a second chance 👌🏻
Got a 2005 bora highline with the same engine at 160k miles for £700. Now on 180k miles. Bit of rust on the common places but starts up every time.
Had it remapped to stage one, and fit a 2.5' exhaust, hard piping and uprated intercooler, egr delete and it transformed it. Handled it like a trooper considering the mileage 😂
i love when Alex said to transition it transitioned to an advert - Keep up the great content
Watched this last night then seen one of these driving down the motorway in Belfast earlier. Fantastic
This is why I love Fridays 💪🏽
I was given a 53 plate passat tdi wagon over 3 years ago by a neighbour. It had sat under a tree, unused for 2 years.
Its now been my daily driver/shunter/abused hack, its just under 200k, it can still do 60mpg, it's completely hanging, but I love it. Same Stinky Blue colour as Percy. Passat b5.5's, they're all right.
Alex you love that Crew clothing jumper, (I have the same one). I also had a 130 PD Passat and it was a great car. Loved the vid and you chaps have great banter.
This is an eye opener. thanks guys
That passat has had A long life. It deserves this after all the hard work and love and care it has had in its life
Sooooo satisfying wow 🤩 we need two uploads a week CT 😔
Great video Alex, you didn't replace the bump stops when you changed the shock absorbers as part of the bump stop locates on the plastic covers to protect the shock absorber from the elements
Good vid, i recently got a 1997 1.9tdi passat, the old rotary pump 110hp version, even more agricultural, and 4 wheel drive aswell! Mine ended at roughly 550pounds with a 2 year TÜV and new brakes. Soon to hit 340000kms aswell, last 3 tanks have averaged at 4.6l per 100kms
11:36 CrisFix helping everywhere lol
"That is Textbook". Classic Partridge, well done 🤣
Amazing how good the seats came out-considering the 20+ years or sweaty dabs, ring juice and Christ knows what else...it speaks volumes about how decent the velour material VW used on them.
Always great content... Exactly what i need..
Another excelent real world video!! Such a huge fan!! After a cheap daily at the momemt and this is just what im after, a decent cheap high miliage ledgend!
I'm glad I waited until after my breakfast to watch this lol but man that was satisfying at the end. Great job!
Production quality is taking big leaps recently. Love it
Forget these everything cake video's. This was so satisfying!
i was hoping for some more daylight exterior shots in the end... loved the colour already... it's a solid and actually pretty car now
Had a 54 plate Highline one of these Passats with the 1.9PD 130 lump. Brilliant car, very solid feeling all round. Had leather, 6CD changer which was great for a 19 year old at the time.
Now have a B6 that i bought in 2008 and have done over 160k in it - nowhere near the car the B5.5 was in terms of solidity but still a great car nonetheless.
Will be changing in a few years for an S213 Merc E Class but will be sad to see the Passat go.
I agree with last message of the video. Ive got 56 plate car and had it for over 3 years, drove to europe 3 times and it hurts to see how many people in uk drive new plates. Why people keep buying new stuff just give love to what we already produced. Love your content guys xx
Reminds me of my mums old 03 Golf. I should have bought that car off her. We had it 17 years and it was the first car I remember. I sat in the drivers seat aged 3, I remember the trips to the dealer and the mileage was about 9 when she got it. It was the only car she ever had new. But now I’m driving my own MK4 Golf which I plan to keep nurturing and giving it some love. Might even get another one day. Brilliant motors.
After all this time watching Car Throttle I finally looked up what an MOT is today (I'm from the US). Now I can actually know what you're talking about while I smile and nod!
I picked up a Volvo XC70 for... not much. Took it home, then got a service for it a couple weeks later. The bill was quite a lot higher than I expected - things needed doing was the display, control arms, tie rods, rotors, pads and bearings. Next on the list is a high level detail. It'll be a really nice spring/summer car by the time it's all done. And probably worth a bit more than I put into it when it's all said and done.
19:31 "move on to the interior soft bits" man I do enjoy this part the most i must say.
Holy high definition of the grime! Love to see Adam in vids again! Looking forward to more Percy content
Brilliant Video! only thing i would have done differently as a Valeter myself, would be to use cleaning solution in the wetvac, sprayed it on the seat, drill brush it in and the dirt out, then suck the water and dirt out. but all round very good!
I've got arrangements to buy a crap car on this Sunday, 2/6. I'll be cleaning and detailing a 1993 Honda Del Sol if all goes well. Probably undoing lots of previous owners "modifications" too. Thanks Car Throttle for the inspiration.
Those wet vacs are the best, made my slightly dirty seats look brand new again. I just used Mr. Clean in it and it worked great.
All the way from Hawaii, I love your content. Been a fan for years
I've got the Bissell Spot Clean Pro and it's brilliant. The amount of crap I've exorcised from some seats is unreal.
6 months ago I brought a 2004 Seat Altea 2.0 tdi140 Sport DSG for £500 with 90k on the clock it’s just flew through the MOT with no advisory’s.
All I have done to the car is a full service the only items I have had to replace are a Drive shaft, intake pipe and a coolant temp sensor.
Great video as usual.
Love this! - Always said these are one of the best cars VW ever produced! - I’ve a mate who’s got one that I remapped for him at 180k miles, it’s still going strong 8 years later with 300k miles on!! (I can send you a remap file Car
Throttle FOC for this car if you wish to do it yourselves!) .. I’ve also recently started a project like this myself as a hobby.. E91 330D Auto with the all important flappy paddles for the gearbox… will be a great car when it’s finished… First BMW I’ve got this involved with & imo VW much better & easier to work on!! - but the BMW will certainly be faster when I’ve finished remapping it!! - great content as always - more of this!! Disappointed you didn’t show the EGR like the high mileage hero’s though!!
Those seats remind me of the dreamy days of the 2000s
Been watching since the 2 guys 1 car series. Love the way this channel evolved. Keep it up guys!
Exactly that, I bought a 150 k mondeo that I used for a few years and has been the best all round car I've ever owned, sold 8t to a mate on 210k and still going strong
Besides the normal wear and tear or sun fade damage, dirt and grime is what really ages a vehicle. It’s amazing how a clean car feels or looks if kept up.
