Rx8 owner, here... Never had a serious issue with mine. I take it on a roadtrip abroad once a year with peace of mind.
You do not necessarily need a rebuild at 70 miles. Sometimes it's early, sometimes it's much later. Depends on how well maintained the car has been.
A great candidate for a custom exhaust and an anti-lag system. Rev it to pops and bangs, until a unscheduled disassembly.
Blowing up the engine will generate far more clicks than rambling about...

Always remember on the car throttle series about the RX8 and the specialist said to put some two stroke oil in the petrol to help the apex seals 😆 first time ive ever heard that but apparently it does extend engine life
We in the rotary world know it as Premix, 2stroke oil in the fuel to help with oiling the seals.

I had an RX8, great fun to drive but absolutely miserable to own. Plotting the route in Scotland will be like doing a dot to dot with petrol stations.
Yup. Drove really nicely, well damped, well balanced and just enough power to have fun. Couldn't take mates out though to impress as it couldn't deal with the increased weight! Engine went at just over 50k miles. Overall build quality wasn't great either. Rust was horrific and had numerous other issues go. So relieved to see it go.
Quality vid, laughed pretty much non stop. So glad you went with the RX8!

Depending on who does it, some garages really don't like rust with MOTs. I once heard one fail a car for "structural" because of rust on the door, not the sills, the actual door. Though he was a twat

I almost purchased an RX8. Loved every thing about it, apart from the look of the front quarter as you walk towards the car at a certain angle. It put me off that much and I was honestly gutted but I know that I would hate the car every time I looked at it.
I went and brought a 156 2.4 JTD instead.
You could have at least got the Busso!
RX8's are only good for engine/trans swapping, I had one got it for 3k with 28k miles then the engine failed at 90k.
It was a fun car but way too unreliable, wish I did an LS2 swap on it. It does have potential, that's what people usually do with them the swap the engine/trans immediately.
Taylor got very childish about the condition of the RX8 vs the Brera in this video.

In this episode Taylor came across as the sort of kid at school that's a bad winner and a bad loser. The sort that during a game of jumpers for goalposts footie would insist that shots against him hit the post or were over the crossbar, whilst his shots were always just inside the posts.
I bought a used 07 Mini Cooper Hatch (aka my new shitbox) and I ran a CarVertical report on it and it was great at putting my mind at ease about the car! Love your work Alex and glad to see you having success! 🤙🏻👍🏻

I am just about sick of people slating the rx8 for reliability, I have owned 20+ rx8 and done a lot of mileage on the rx8 platform and they’re no more unreliable than a 4 stroke car I’ve never been let down by one, I swear people will buy 1 with no service record and then moan when it blows up 6 months later. They are a specialist car with a unique engine but with good maintenance I’ve seen 120k miles on an unopened engine. As for compression figures it can only give you a rough guide to how healthy an engine is, it’s more about how much pull or hp the engine makes, as for reving it flat out when it’s cold your the stereotypical people I see that own one and wonder why it breaks sorry for the rant
Genuinely curious (and not intended to be a dig at rx8s in anyway) but if they were so good, why/how have you gone through so many? That’s like having a new one every year since it was released!
@@jameswilsonking i knew someone would ask 😂 I buy and sell them, biggest killer of rx8s these days is rust I normally have to do a lot of welding on them trying to save as many as possible while making a living, I have had to rebuild 4 or 5 engines and it all comes down to how they’re looked after

Ive done a shitload of work on p38s over the years, it will develop loads of faults but they usually keep going (I have an old v8 disco that usually ran ok, but sometimes it seized when its hot!! haha. let it cool down and it might run for days ok!)!lol. done a fair bit with rx8s a few years ago too, and id still love one! Amazing choices guys

My brother had a RX-8, he didn't drive it for a few months and the brakes ceased. Given where we live in Scotland watching it go around roundabouts was hilarious and when it snowed he crashed into a lamp post. Moment the fuel got low he worried he wouldn't make it to the petrol station that was at the bottom of the road. He went to collect the kids from School and the battery died after being used. His RX-8 was then written off when a lorry drove over the long bonnet. I feel like this is confirmation that the RX-8 is unreliable.
