I live in the States and I can affirm Facebook marketplace is an amazing place to find a car. Due in part to the fact that everyone can sell everything. I bought an '08 Mitsubishi Eclipse GS 5 speed manual for $1,200 because the previous owner saw the oil pressure light pop on and knew nothing about cars. The car sells here for about $5,000 at a dealership. All I had to do was replace a $25 oil pressure sensor
it's a fantastic place to find "mechanic's specials" that you can quickly flip and make a few bucks. or just find a really good car for really cheap, just because of that one stupid sensor or something. my friend got a 2011 sentra for 1000 dollars because it needed spark plugs. that's it. to have a shop do it, its like 700 dollars just in labor because you have to take the intake off. well, he popped out his wrench kit and had it all banged out in an hour, little thing runs like a top
@@ghomerhust i changed the sensor when I changed the oil. Took longer waiting on the oil to finish draining than it did to fix the car. I drive the thing daily. No issues whatsoever. It's easy to get burned but also easy to get a bargain if you know what you're doing

Unless you're in the Midwest and then everything listed is a rusty pile of shit priced at 5-10k.
Fb marketplace is wild. The scammers are off the charts. Can usually spot a mile off. Everything is like £83 or they will say my son will collect, what’s your email and I’ll send payment, email comes in saying it’s been paid and they will expect you to send the item based on that.

I had some (ex) friends pose as me to a seller, and they bought a 90 miata I was going to buy that day from under me... I learned about the existence of the Mk1 MR2 that night because of Facebook suggesting it as a "similar search", still upset about that Miata, but the MR2 became a dream car of mine instantly, and now I have one (with a blown motor...)

Wouldn't be much point, a lot of the scammers on marketplace are either hacked accounts or newly created fake profiles that are frequently being removed and new ones being created. Most likely by the time they put a video out there will be a new load of them lol

Got my white landrover disco 2 v8 2000 model on FB marketplace a couple of months ago. 1 owner since new. 60k miles, garaged since new and full landrover history. It even has the new car smell. I’m so happy with it. The wife not so much as she wanted a 7 seat X5

I bought a 1992 J VW Jetta MK2 GX Wolfsberg edition on marketplace one, went to buy it in Wrexham from East Anglia, paid 2k for it, bought it and drove it back in the pouring rain and it didn't miss a beat. Bonus the sunroof didn't leak.
Looking for a first car and saw a 2007 vw polo for £1500 ( rlly good in the NI) guy told me there was a brand new mot and only a few scrapes,when I got there the fella selling the car wasn’t even there it was one of his workers, he lied and the car failed mot and abaout a quarter of the car was painted with a brush, moral of the story, ALWAYS go see the car before you send any money

A day late BUT: Even if you go look at it in person be careful because people will rob you. Make sure to be weary and bring a friend with you or at least tell others where you're going.
Finding a genuine add on marketplace is getting ridiculous. Example, Dorris who looks to be in her 70s has 12 4x4s, 4 mercs 10 BMWs, several motorhomes and boats for sale......alway click on seller profile. I kind of given looking on there to be honest. Faceache don't appear to do any basic checks before allowing vehicles to be sold by any random. Very common to the same car being sold in all 4 corners of the UK. Where it used stand out a mile as a scam (far too cheap) now harder to filter out as they price them fairly normally in a lot of cases

I bought my 2007 Mazda3 with only 75k miles and in great nick for only £1k and other than the odd drop link//brake cable needing replacing from wear and tear/corrosion, it has served me so well. More options available too than Autotrader etc. Feel like Autotrader is slowly becoming the overpriced and non-1st choice for people now.
Mazda 3s are the best for reliability, my family has an 05 and it only failed one MOT on standard breakables. Other than that its never caused any aggravation. Id always recommend mazda for anyone looking for a good reliable car, you made a great choice, they are even ULEZ exempt.
I haven’t been on Facebook for over 3 years but I do miss marketplace. I don’t miss scrolling looking at shit I don’t need, but I do miss picking up bargains. I’m currently looking for a shit box car as well and fb marketplace is the top farm for those 👌
I was able to sell my car in a month on marketplace and received the amount I wanted because it was a fair price. But I’ve had one of my motorcycles on marketplace for nearly a year trying to fund my college classes and every inquiry I receive is about maintenance and price and then complete silence. Or it’s people saying “I’ll have a guy come pick it up and pay you” lmao. Marketplace, it’s so tiresome…
Last car and still currently using. Was cloned and got tickets for driving wrong way down a bus road from the other side of London. Luckily got it over turned as I had roof bar's online from day one. Did all the checks and was sound. But the scammers use it as you stated.

In regards to asking for deposit for anything selling, I sell alot on FB marketplace ( have 4.8 stars out of 5 ) and send around the country alot. You would be surprised how many people give $$ up front for stuff.

The scammers are hacking real peoples accounts to make it look more legit, my missus fb was hacked and they listed hundreds of cars under market value

Maybe this is a hot take, but in my opinion the whole marketplace seach function is ASS...
Every damn car is listed as auto, but barely any actually are autos. You can't do specific searches, it just throws any old shitbox or broken bmw at you, no matter what you search for.
And if you restrict the search radius, the actual cutoff in the listings when it goes beyond that radius is barely noticeble.
Here in sweden we have "blocket" and it's miles better than marketplace. The prices for cars are high, but the search function is amazing compared to marketplace.
But I don't know, maybe I'm just shit at navigating marketplace...
all my cars part from one from fb i got a Astra SRI Xpack 1.9 CTDI 150BHP already mapped rears tinted and and had new turbo only 2 years ago loads spent on it for £500 bargain
