He didn't have terrible luck, he made terrible choices.
This is why I won't leave a single penny behind for my kids. No way I work my ass off for a lifetime only to get it wasted for crappy cars.
@@WARXion maybe give your kids a bit of advice, then they won't blow it all.

I'm so glad Gareth was on this episode to join in the bullying of Rory's awful financial decisions
Big love to Gareth P- need to see more of his cheeky face on this channel
Jesus Christ. Assuming Rory bought his first car at 17, he has lost more than £550 per month.
Love Josh just awkwardly standing in the corner for nearly 2 minutes! haha
That was pretty funny
My first car was a Rover 25 for £700, it survived for 6-7 months before the head gasket blew. My second car was a 97 Mazda 121 for £450 that had 16 previous owners and lasted for about 2 years. In that 2 and a half years Rory lost 10K to 15K in comparison.
😭😭😭
Ha, my first car at age 24 having recently completed a degree in automotive engineering was a Rover 200. Oh how my mates laughed when they said the head gasket will go on it. 1 month later it did.
Tried to change it myself with the help of a friend but a bunch of the bolts would not come off.
I gave it an oil change and sold it for £50 less than I paid for it 😂
I've been driving for 8 years, got a second-hand aygo in 2015 for £4,500 and I'm still running it to this day.
@@mikemac803 but you must be bored with it by now? I mean, no break downs is boring! 😂
@gofres I wouldn't say that. A side light went out 2 years ago and the exhaust fell off this year. Set me back a whole £35
We demand a full list of cars owned!
Dude needs to let Taylor be in charge of any car decisions from now on
Buying clapped out BMWs? Just continuing the trend of unreliable trash
basically Rory's issue is that he hasn't grown to the point where he understands that you can only buy what you have the free cash to pay for.
life is easy when its with daddies money.
You can afford to make those mistakes when you have family wealth to fall back on. Thanfully most people would never be so stupid cause they can't comprehend pissing that kind of money up the wall. This isn't a lesson everyone has to learn, even in the modern era of financing everything few would do this badly
An Insignia ? At 18 ? Im 51 and even my old ass thinks thats an old mans car ! Oh Rory.......
Rory had an absolute shocker on the XJ. I ran a 2014 plate portfolio one for 2 years and all it cost me was servicing and a new trailing arm and ball joint. Shifted it when the bills for brakes and tyres was looming and took a £2k hit on what I bought it for. Didnt think that was too bad and otherwise was very reliable and an excellent car overall.
I’m more shocked that Rory is 30…
Love the podcast Alex and awesome seeing Gareth back too, hope Miles is well and thank you for all you and your team do go get em Tiger
After listening to Rory's car buying expense, I now feel so much better about my awful car buying losses. :o)
/same :D
You gotta drop a story or two after a comment like that 😅. These types of stories are so fun to swap with each other 🤝😂
So great to have Gareth on the channel he is mint, love his humour missed seeing him on the channel
Fairplay to you Rory, youve just made a great number of people feel a whole lot better about their car decisions.
A guy round the corner recently got a maserati, ive never seen it move since it arrived and yesterday he was doing italian yoga (he was doing a head stand in the passengers footwell!)
Youre not a lone your automotive madness 🤙🏼
You guys should do a full run down, including side stories. Make it long episodes if you need to. I’d watch both all the way through
I do wish more people would talk about the real costs of ownership though. We’ve all seen the cost of rebuilds, or doing something no one does outside of CZcams, but it’s hard to gauge how much people are spending on cars so it’s hard to know if you could be spending less.
I’ve spent about 5500 quid keeping my Z4 on the road over the last 40 months, and I have no idea whether I’d be better selling it off and getting something newer because no one seems to track their real costs properly. My previous experience tells me I’m probably about right, but maybe I buy shit boxes. None of the work has been for breakdowns though and it’s only ever been to independents so theoretically that’s over 100 per month for a reliable drive.
I totally agree with you. As much as entertaining all these channels and projects are, their costs are definitely not the same as what non CZcamsrs would be subjected to.
For your Z4, first of all mad respect as it's a fantastic motor and, unfortunately, a dying breed.
It's one of the very last proper spiders and, as of today, one of the two last "same-size" spiders on sale, together with the Mazda MX-5.
Both Mercedes and Audi have stopped production of their comparable SLK and TT model, which imho is a shame, but nowadays it looks like everyone wants to drive upside/down toilet pans with 20" wheels.
I can easily see how the Z4 will become a future classic, at what cost though ... up to you to decide! 😉
I fear I might have that figure beat with my terrible automotive choices as well. Just know you aren't the only one Rory and I stand with you (in financial ruin).
Agreed - I always feel bad about my financial decisions when it comes to cars. It gives me a bit of relief knowing that I’m not alone!
You all need help if you're racking up anywhere near those numbers by the age of 30. Almost sounds like a gambling addiction, do better lads. Never too late to turn it around & just be....normal.
I can join Rory in liking old man cars. My second car (at 18) was a Nightfire Red Rover 214SEi. My fourth or fifth car at 20 or 21 was a 1998 Rover 825 Sterling in White Gold. The latter was a huge financial mistake. £700 to buy, £900 to fix it in six months, blew head gasket, sold for £190. Not a patch on Rory's losses but still steep for me at the time working at Tesco).
Sounds exactly like me in my 20s, it didn't bother me at the age of 30 either. Now I am 50 I just keep thinking if I hadn't been so stupid I would now own a much nicer house and would be looking to retire many years earlier.
I'm a private hire driver.... if Rory ever turns out to be my passenger, I'm refusing for fear of my car going bang
Gareth thinking £90k is a person's deposit on a house is blowing my mind
Not really. You can use some of that 90k for a deposit…
I bought a whole house for less than that but I live in the middle of nowhere and it was 13 years ago
They all live in London, it’s the way things are
@@Grapeape01clearly northern lol
@@danielhendry8376 South Wales, still houses around for less than £90k that can be lived in
7:30 yeah, thats negative equity Gareth, and its a nasty one when dealing with car finance trade-ins. All the debt from the previous car gets forwarded on top of the new finance plan. At least, thats how I understand it, I could be wrong!
He's the /r/WallStreeetBets of car ownership, YOLO to the MOT centre. Still fair play to him for /having/ 90k to lose at a young age!
When considering car losses, you have to divide the total by the number of months you had the car. Then, compare that to the cost of a bus pass (which would be the alternative).
Rory is fantastic, he makes me feel amazing about my car ownership journey.
This is a lesson in poor teaching from parents about financial decision making. Instead of buying a house or other sensible money decisions you basically just gave other people your money for cars that weren’t even reliable to sell it to someone else at a loss so they could make the profit on it. Jesus. What’s the saying about one born every minute again
The most baffling thing to me is spending 90k and not really having a single car that’s very cool honestly lol
10:55 the bloke waiting patiently trying not to interrupt in the background 😂😂
And then just walking off 😂😂
With you on the Defender Rory- they should be go up in value but that’s only going to offset some of your 90k if you sell it! mines definitely worth more now than what I paid for it nearly 17 years ago.
But the £35k spend on the defender isn't even included in the £90k, barley puts a dent in it on the whole
I feel your pain. Easily done. I am around 50 cars at 39.
I dare not add up my loses. 7 cars this year and lost a fair bit. 😅.
Me and rory followed the same route, fiesta to insignia, ive also looked at a mazda 6
Honestly this makes me feel better about my financial choices. 2018 fiesta as my first car. Put 30k on it, sold it when it needed a decent amount spending on it and got a 2017 bmw 220d on 15k miles at 18. Somehow insurance was cheap on it too. Literally emptied my entire savings from a year of working on the car too. But a year and 18k miles later to this day, I still own the car outright, it’s not had a single issue, I have money saved and the car will be staying with me for many more years yet as it’s great for what I use it for (especially now it’s past the days of delivering dominos 😂)
Some lr specialists can change the disco 3 turbos without taking the body off but it's better getting the body off and doing everything
Hi Guys, poor Rory truly is a bit of a numpty when it comes to money and cars. The sad thing for me is that some young peeps are going to be watching this, thinking it's OK. And it's really, really not. Rory you really should learn to stop spending money you have no intention to repay., or your credit score will be buggered FOR LIFE.
Wait, who’s Rory’s dad?
I feel much better now, thanks I needed that.
That whiplash claim is deffo bordelsey green, alum rock areas 😂😂
Rx8's, once you look past the reliability and the fuel efficiency, is a really fun car.
@DingoFlurts I'm basically saying it's fun to drive someone else's rx8
English car prices are nuts. How can a quattroporte with 32k miles be only 16 000 pounds?
They’ve gone up a bit since the pandemic
Yeah this was like 6-7 years ago I’m guessing
This would have been years and years ago. The same car with same mileage now is 20k now because of inflation.
Back in the day in the UK car prices were silly cheap. Im talking £20K for an R34 GTR
@@CGCTV if you saw car throttles 2jz video they looked at some old auto trader magazines and you could get a 1993 mk4 supra for £3.800 In 2010! And it only had 83k miles.
I know the feeling, had a similar issue, i had bad luck on an 08 mk4 mondeo titanium x, bought it for £1850, owned it two and a half years, £5.5k in repairs even though it didn’t have anything wrong with it when i bought it then had to be scrapped for £220
Bought a 98 Lexus LS400 after and its still been fine and not had a single issue years later
Always have a dash cam, exactly the same thing happened to me and the first thing the insurance company said was have you got dash cam footage because its Gold dust.
Do an episode where Rory makes a profit on a car!
Chris and Gareth on a podcast is what we wanted to see ✌️
My first car when I was 18, was an 11 year old 1995 Ford Fiesta 1.6GT for €950... which I crashed after less than 2 years. Then I bought a nearly 8 year old 2001 Ford Mondeo for €7200 (was about €30000 over here when it was new)... WHICH I STILL DRIVE!😂 15 years later, at age 23, it's still driving and roadworthy. Best car ever! Though it is a bit of a shed by now if I'm honest. Rory has lost £90000 on cars, in Britain where cars are much cheaper than here in the Netherlands, and he's younger than me! OMG!
I think we need to see a picture wall of all Rory's 30 cars now
I feel so much better after watching that! 😃
My choices seem less catastrophic!
Next time things go awry: At least this isn't Rory level!!🤣
Thank you!!
Great to see Gareth 👍
Rory, I have some magic beans that you might be interested in buying. You can grow the car of your dreams.
At this point it’s not bad luck in cars. It’s your choices of cars and how you pay for them.
I don’t think that’s necessarily true. I’ve spent thousands keeping up the maintenance of ‘bulletproof’ cars. Not 90k, but you either lose it in repairs or you lose it in depreciation. Cars are expensive.
Rory has not covered himself in glory on this one 😕
Funny and all but kind if tragic how many people say they've done similar 😳
I had negative equity once on a car. My mates named my old astra the "neggatron"
Someone crashed into me in the exact same way as Rory had on a roundabout and even though I had front and back dashcam footage and three police officers witnessed the entire thing the insurance company settled 50/50 based off court case decision from early 2000. They in effect state all collisions on a roundabout is an automatic 50/50.
And this is the exact reason i don't go near roundabouts in Bradford, Bolton or Birmingham
Notification squad Have a nice weekend!🔥🔥🔥
Gareth “you’re a genius “ 😂😂😂😂
That's just part of car ownership. I hate to think the money I've lost over my 40 odd years of driving. Buying recently a new Range Rover has been my biggest mistake!
A fool and his money (a finance company's) are easily parted😂😂😂
Sounds like Rory only took the job with Autoalex so he can get his cars fixed for free... 😄
I dont want to jinx myself, and some have my purchases have been less risky cars than him... but ive probably had 25 cars (im 40, and for context started my work life as a car mechanic), and only ever really had to do tyres and batteries, and a few sets of brakes. The outlier was buying a very cheap Disco2 TD5 that lasted a few years before blowing the head, got a backpacker tourist that was an ex Land Rover mechanic to do a full engine swap from a car he wrote off for about a thousand pounds and sold it for more than i bought it for!
I generally buy very well looked after low mileage cars and drive them into the ground a bit for a couple of years, and then sell them for similar money. Thanks to people like Rory taking the hits and driving the car market down a bit hahaha
Well Rory's definitely made me feel better about my constant losses on cars 😂
Whit the free beer is a subscription bro
The Mazda 6 2.5 Sport was an amazing car. I ran one for over 4 years and it was solid!
I got a 2009 insignia 1.8 petrol 3 months ago for £500, i hated it😂 traded it in last month for 1200 quid and got my 4th vxr, so yeah im now dailying a corsa nurburgring🤣 the other 3 vxrs are parked up till summer lmao so i meed another daily soon👀
But the 1.8vvt lump is awful! Ive got it in my astra h sri xp and its alright but the siggy is just so fat and heavy, handled like a pig too and i felt so old! Fully kitted though for a 2009 model as an elite
Accidents don’t do much to a young drivers insurance premium. I had a full at fault claim at 17 and the next year my premium went down to a third of the previous year
Rory is almost the British version of Hoovies garage😂😂
I think you lads went easy on Rory!! I would of ripped his arse out!! LOL
if the Disco's like the Range Rover, you have to take the body off to change 3 of the glow plugs.
I lost 3k once on a volvo v50 d5 because i decided i HAD to have a mx5 ASAP!!!!
i think about that realy foolish moment quite regularly, not because i regret the mx5 but because i regret selling the volvo so cheap. Guess its not that bad considering this hahaha
I've spent lots of money on cars 🚗 but never really lost money on any the most was 1.5k not too bad on over 100 cars at least I've lost count at one time i was changing the car every month then streched it out to 6 months
Let's face it all cars and motorcycles are a waste of money it would be a lot cheaper to catch the bus everywhere ! But you can't rag a bus down your favourite back road or polish it on your drive 😂
Rory, man I thought you were the sensible one.
I met you at the NEC Classic car show, you seemed smart and not a crazy as the others.
But (buutt), a Maserati Quatroporte - really! We would all love one, but know it would drain any pocket money faster than - well classic Range Rover or a girlfriend who only shops at Harvey Nick's or Fortnums!
So you have only got a Jensen Interceptor or Aston Martin to go to be flat broke!
I take my hat off to you, you have class and go for it - budget or not!
And here I am thinking I was bad for buying a 106 off a ‘friend’ for £500 and spending twice that to get it through its next mot! Cheers Rory, I feel better now 😂
Poor poor Rory. If only he was able to afford his own race car. Maybe he could have afforded it if he didn't lose £90k!
EU does get JP cars right?
Love the pod boys but what I want to know is….. The best girlfriend/partner/wife pleasing car that’s fast and fun to drive for me, but reliable, practical and economical to keep them happy for under 5k. A situation I’m currently in. Cheers. Ned, Bristol.
Good thing Alex bought Rory’s new Jag
Rory, you are me...with a little bit more money and even bigger mistakes :D
Hearing Rory makes me feel better over my own financial decisions😂
4:14 only in Rory's car history
And Rory is Alex financial advisor.
To be fair, I was in a bigger hole than that when i was 27. I had motor bikes as well as cars, and would do that debt accumulation thing as well. I was in 76,000 worth of debt at 27. but had bought a house and completely paid off my mortgage by 37... Now I wont even have a credit card....
It seems that Rory loses around £3k per car. In contrast, ive been driving around 20 years and ive had 3 cars, the last being a MK4 Golf GT Tdi 130PD that i paid £8k for at 3 years and 60k miles which i ended up spending £5k of insurance money on and had for 14 years, finally letting her go on August 2020 for £1000. I think ive done quite well.
No podcast this week?
It’s just gone live!
The posh one says £90 k that's nearly a deposit on a house 😂
I need a 3to4k daily but I want Taylor to choose which car I get ?
Alright, rory is deffo not the brightest dude ahahha
Man how can someone make such dumb mistakes, like why do some people need to experience something to think about the issues that can happen, why cant you think about it before it happens, there are people you can ask if you are wondering what would happen in certain situations, its not hard to be careful
Is that Taylor popping his head in at the 10:10 mark?
I'm not even going to add mine up as I'm sure I can top that but don't want to depress myself 🤣
No new podcast episode this week?
It’s out now.
@@AK.2425 Oh, thanks!
PS. NEVER give Rory a Company Car.
In the 80's there was a punk rock band called Free Beer. So bars would put up signs, Tonight: Free Beer. The bartender would say, "The band is called Free Beer. The longnecks are $3."
this is hard to watch, it's causing me to count up my own cost of overship mistakes.. nothing like the big errors in total as rory but flippin heck the final number is a decent house deposit
How the fuck he afforded certain cars at such a young age is beyond me
He hasn't lost it he's spent it.
Rory doesn't have bad luck with cars, he's just the best at finding money pits. Silver linings 😂
Lol I have to say that some of these losses might have been avoidable haha
Gareth: cars are not for you Rory! You need to get a bus.
Next Auto Alex video.
Can Rory buy a bus for under Five grand!
Fascinated by the random dude in the corner lol
