@Big Dongle not really the best description. More the harbour freight of the UK. sells all sorts of stuff across the board reslly and if you drive a corsa you whack one of their big halfords air filters on your car

This is our generations top gear, I grew up watching top gear don’t get me wrong but I love these lads, could easily watch a full hour episode; much love for the last 5years!

Overlanding is the way to go… don’t need a serious off-roader to find great camping spots well off the beaten path. I converted one of my volvo XC70’s into an overlanding wagon and it functions amazingly! We mainly camp in the fall and winter and works fantastic. We have solar generator battery system, 2 100watt solar panels on the roof rails fixed and mounted, have the awning for enjoying the outside, got grill we can cook on, got basic cooler/fridge system runs off 12V (plugged into solar generator). We a few odds and ends for recovery equipment like a come along and snow chains, we haven’t gotten stranded yet. Also With the all terrain tires we run (general tire; A/T x) it goes anywhere we realistically want to take it. Sure it won’t conquer hardcore trails but realistically we never had an issue with that. We camped in some of the greatest spots overlooking beautiful scenery on closed trails packed with snow that most people will never get to or even realize exist.

@@rubenhooper6112 That is true, though if you can somehow afford it or are mechanically inclined enough to do an engine+transmission swap then it would be a nice rig! If I remember correct, DieselPumpUK makes a OM606 kit for the disco 2, and also makes an adapter to fit a TH400 to the OM606, so its possible if you have the dough.

Always good to have you guys back on screen together, we save your videos for the weekends as my son loves them, I echo some of the other comments that some extended road trip/challenge videos would be excellent, I think you have captured the essence of what made TopGear of old so entertaining but sometimes the condensing of editing to 20 mins does make the videos seemed a bit rushed and lacks some detail. Now travel is getting easier we need to see you guys a proper European adventures, especially doing a shitbox grand tour - relying on a budget vehicle to enjoy some of the best roads in Europe rather than these hella expensive cars most of us could never afford. I had planned a two road trip taking in Holland, Germany, Switzerland, Italy, France but had a bad accident and wrote off my car, two years later I am finally getting an operation which will mean I can start replanning the trip with my son for next summer, be great to see you guys do something similar :) and if you need a couple of crew to carry your stuff we volunteer haha.

@@skylined5534 nah he is right Land Rover is really unreliable and the parts are overpriced I’d rather a small light vitara or Jimny because there much lighter and would do better of road and more reliable or maybe a old Jeep maybe a cheerokee

I used to own a gray Disco 2. Owned it for a year and only put 600 1000 miles on it because it was always broken. Absolutely loved that thing and miss it so much.
There's something so cool about an old land rover with a proper set of meaty tires. Looking forward to this face-off!

From the states here .. the LR 3 is essentially an oversized estate and no amount to dress up can make as capable as that factory equipped disc2.. and btw.. take the better bits of kit like that lights the sun shade and the top tent but drop the cooler thingy and that D2 could give a forerunner or a JEEP a good run for its money..
How a tv channel hasn’t picked this show up and put it on air is beyond me. Would blow the current incarnation of top gear out the water

I've had both of these vehicles and the Disco 2 has a timeless design and the rugged look makes it incomparable, definitely a classic!I Got rid of my LR3 and Kept the Disco and will not part away!!!

Yeah the new defender is hideous the first advert I saw on it I knew it was horrible. The old defenders are some of the only Land Rover I like the new ones are terrible and depreciate in value loads I don’t really like any of the vehicles coming out of Land Rover/Range Rover they are horrible

I built up a gen 1 disco a few years ago here is Australia, you can combine capability with comfort and convenience lol, build it tough but add the creature comforts too
With the d2 did you leave the rear as air bags? Also I would suggest getting a stormtuning ecu for the d2 as well as that gives you a noticeable power gain!

Those cars are missing a snorkel to look like propper offroaders.
I work on both LR3’s and D2’s. The simplicity of the D2 makes fixing it yourself very easy. LR3’s are electrical nightmares, so many ridiculous problems that don’t exist in the older ones. Don’t get me wrong, neither are reliable but at least the D2 is straight forward to fix.

Based on what I read/watched about 4x4/Touring, the disco is nice but you gotta love the torture to use the car properly with the amount of maintaince needed.

Honestly watching this here in Australia so many things that were done would never be allowed here 😂😂 using wheel spacers no.1 problem. drilling into the chassis another fail. But keen to see how it goes off-road compared to the vehicles we build.
How much different these builds would be in Australia with a prado or patrol would be amazing

Those roof top tents can be a pain to set up and pack up and sometimes you debate whether it'd be easier to open a window and jump out rather than climb down and deal with zipper doors when you have to do your business in the middle of the night, but I don't regret getting mine. Even after the 4th night that giant foam mattress is so comfy.
Mods are great to both. Only change I'd make if it was for a serious expedition in the Aussie outback is to combine the tent and BFGs with the lift of the black disco and put the whole lot on a Hilux or Land Cruiser instead....

I know a guy in Australia that is a manager of a ARB store and his work truck is a fully kitted out Hilux and it’s was the top of the top and was used to show what they could do to fit out a off road vehicle with all the luxury’s too and it was just a beast made driving on Australian back roads look like childs play

The 'rock sliders' that were on there at the start are actually nerf bar or running boards rather than true rock sliders. Also, as an L322 Range owner, love to see some Landies on the channel getting some love!
