It's not that bad of an idea, _in theory._ A small, nippy, quiet, comfortable pod like that would satisfy all the people who only use their car for commuting and grocery shopping. It's just too bad the G-Wiz has only managed 'small' & 'quiet' from that list.

It's amazing how electric cars have evolved, the Citeron Ami is cheaper, faster and can go further. Let's hope progress marches as quickly over the next decade.
Personally I look forward to a future where little EV or hydrogen cell cars, like the Ami, are ubiquitous, cheap, and perfectly self driving though with an option for manual control. I want car enthusiasts around still as enthusiasts are good for whatever field interests them but I think most people would more appreciate automated pods that get you exactly where you want to be rather than just near it like public transport _(which is superior in every respect but that)_ so they can arrive without the stress or energy expenditure involved in driving yourself.
there was toyota RAV4 EV in 1997 that had almost 100miles range and 67hp.
General Motors EV1 (also known as the "Impact") was a very good electric car which was first unveiled in 1990.
Admittedly, its first batteries were lead acid, but were then later upgraded to NiMH batteries instead.
It was very well liked by many who were aware of it, but GM worked their damnedest to put customers off (long story - alot of it to do with emissions regulations in California).
I liked it when I first saw the prototype, but didn't see it again for about 15 years afterwards.
Terrible shame we couldn't have it here in the UK.

I've owned several G Wizzes and although I now have a (early) Leaf now, the Wizzes were loads of fun. Find an AC powered one (2007 onwards) shove in some lithium batteries and they shift (a bit!)
You need to do the battery conversion people have done. It actually turns into a vehicle that you can barely use for a runaround!

I wonder if this could be "overclocked" with lithium batteries instead? Should make a bit more power and the range should increase quite drastically
And probably immediately melt the wiring. These cars are awful. I would like to see the difference in range if they did a full LED light replacement though. No additional power but who knows, you might be able to use the lights and wipers at the same time.
There was a lithium version, it would allegedly do 50mph which is terrifying in that thing.
In fairness, even the Lead-Acid G-Wizz would do a lot better than this *IF* the batteries are not basically scrap. In fact, replacing them with Lithium, ideally LiFePo4, not Li-ion makes a big difference, more current, less fade, longer life and lighter.
BUT.... Still perhaps not going to be earning you many speeding tickets in a 30 zone but the lead-acid was always a bad choice - even when the batteries were new!
The motor is (IIRC) 4KW - with the ability to grudgingly operate at about 12KW for short periods (pulling away and hills).
In short, the answer to your question is "Yes", it makes a significant difference. :)

Tear out the engine so that can be your frunk. Then mount a GSXR 1000 engine sideways in the back.
If I had one of these, my first impulse would be to fiberglass up some front and rear fender flares, mount a massive front wing and another over the hatch and basically make it look like a MG Metro 6R4 that got hit by a shrink ray.
