"I felt a great disturbance in the Force, as if millions of voices suddenly cried out in awe and suddenly broke into laughter. I fear something terrible has happened."
I used a tape recorder to record some really weird shit, and the cassettes (somehow) wound up in a family friend's possession. He, uh, was kind of concerned.
The kid singing brings me back to childhood playing with tapes and recording my voice. I didn’t sing all that much, but I remember pretending to be the weather man while looking out the window.
3:43 I heard that as "no one speaks Dutch" and it just made me think that all ducks speak Dutch but no one can understand them because it's such a silly sounding language
Context - that "walkman" was full of soundtracks in Italian, stuff like "Il Buono, Il Brutto e il Cattivo" (The Good, The Bad and the Ugly) by Ennio Morricone or Diabolik (a series of Italian noir comic books about a thief), or old anime from the 70s like Goldrake (the name we gave to Grendizer in Italy).
4:42 That's background music from the 70's anime Grendizer, and the Diabolik thing was probably the theme to Golden Bat. This nug belonged to an Italian anime fan!
All correct except Diabolik is an italian comic series about a super thief (think James Bond but for heists). The adaptation of Golden Bat is called Fantaman in Italy, go figure
Random tip: The rubberized cover can be easily removed when in contact with water. I discovered about it after cleaning the plastic parts of my scimitar mouse. The rubber coat became white and easily to remove when scratched with the nail. It didn't leave marks.
Incredibly surprised the manufacturers of these nuggets don't include that tip in their instruction manuals, that breaths so much new life into these old dinosaurs!
Goof off/goo be gone cleaners also have a good effect on this crap. Though be careful with these as they're gonna be more caustic to your device. Works like a charm on junk like the ps2 dualshocks rubberized joysticks and controllers that had soft touch junk from the 00s.
If you don't want to remove the coating, and would rather want to "fix" it, I have found a solution. I collect old Nokias, and their 5xxx series have some of the gooiest nastiest covers after some 10 years. I found out that putting the covers in the dishwasher on a normal program, "stabilizes" them for a while at least. If it is just the surfacelayer of the rubbercoating that is getting sticky, they will be as good as new. If the whole rubber coating is soup, it's beyond saving. It will still be stabilized, and not sticky anymore, but it will crack and come off as crumbles instead of goo. Just remember to remove the covers first, the electronics themselves might not like the dishwasher as much.
I spotted a pirated MKV of The Wind Rises (Kaze Tachinu) on that bootleg Nano. It blows my mind that somebody would actually watch a Studio Ghibli film on that thing as late as 2014.
Imagine finding an MP3 player some italian dude or dudette used to record the intros of various famous cartoons from the 80s/90s, it's incredible how it's gotten all the way there if it actually comes from Italy
4:43 If anyone was wondering, that's a piece from UFO Robot Grendizer's OST, composed by the legendary Shunsuke Kikuchi (RIP). The other tracks are from various other films and TV shows (the one at 4:49 is from The Good, The Bad and The Ugly), and the file names are all in Italian.
I listen to enough Italian movie soundtracks to recognize ALL the tracks on the Walkman. Was losing my mind when I saw them. “Oh my god! Profondo Rosso and Fistful of Dollars soundtracks!!!! I actually listen to those. Goblin and Ennio Morricone are my JAM!” XD
Back in middle school somebody pawned off a similar model RCA on me for like $5 bucks, I think it was smaller overall it had a bigger screen and a the battery compartment, which might have been for a double a, bulged out the top back of the case, it had a flip out USB on the left side and a marginally more cromulent UI with scrolling animations and incredibly primitive particle effects but mostly looked exactly the same like the one in this video. The only song on it was we're not gonna take it by twisted sisters, and I had absolutely no concept of drag and drop file transfer so I just listened to the one song and felt proud of myself for having a "mobile device" (this was like 2011-2012 btw) and then it stopped working like 2 weeks later
