Making a creative Wooden Puzzle Box

The reason this small box is (almost) impossible to open is that it doesn’t open like a box. There are no hinges, no lids, no latches - nothing you’d expect. You have to hold the box in your hands just right and…well, you have to watch the video to see how the box opens. Nick also shows how it’s made. For our non-English-speaking viewers: Closed captions can be set to any language. Click on “CC” (Closed Captions) at the bottom of the screen to turn them on. Click on the gear (Settings) and a menu appears. Click on “Subtitles/CC” and another menu will appear. Click on “Auto Translate” and a menu of languages will appear. Click on the language you want for the closed captions and you will be returned to the video -- closed captions will appear in the language you have chosen. If these captions cover up some of the action, place the cursor over the captions, press and hold the left mouse button, then drag the captions to where you want them on your screen. Release the mouse buttons and they’ll stay there.

This is wonderful, thank you. I made one by following the video. For anyone else thinking about building one, there is an error to be aware of: at 2:24 after the bottom is masked off the piece is turned over and the same end of the top is masked off. This is repeated for the other pieces. It should be the *other* end of the *bottom* that is masked off because the pieces that are glued to the top and the bottom are glued at opposite ends, not the same end. This means that a gluing area on each piece is oiled from 2:41. Compare what you see when the masking is done with the completed sections at 4:46 and you will see what I mean.

It's a box -- you store things in the cavities created by the holes.

With the router and a template to follow you could make it completely hollow instead of just the tea-light-sized holed. Or make appropriate-sized holes if you have something specific to store.

For an assembly table, maybe. There are more stable alternatives for power tool use. For hand tool use a heavy base is needed.
