The captain at the start is the guy you want having your back. He saw the red flags and warned the Englishman, he offered to explore the place with him, and he even offered to gift his gun to him to have something to defend himself with. What a guy.

Cold Skin, by author Albert Sánchez Piñol. The book is darker with more in-depth details.

That's what I thought as well
It's to study patterns, record data, and once eventually returning, compare the data received with data on the mainland. This helps determine future weather that is incoming, and what signs could lead to bad storms, etc.
What do you mean If no one comes to pick up his reports?... The weatherman work there for a year and collect all there data and once they're "shift" has ended they're supposed to get picked up and then replaced with another..hence when they get back to civilization they can give their data to whoever collects and analyzes all of it...so yeah nobody technically "comes and picks it up" but it still goes back with the weatherman to the people who analyze it all..

Aneris backwards is 'Sirena' which is "siren" in Spanish. As in Sirens of the rock.

So, we still dont get why the creatures were doing what they were doing and attacking.. that was not very "friendly"
and it was not for Aneris cuz she was mostly free and outside. She could leave and jump in the water WHENEVER she wanted, and the man would not have been able to stop her.
They wanted Aneris back...that's why. The human was crazy.

@@420WILD Aneris was free based on what I saw. She was willingly following the man and mating with him even. Most of the time, she was left alone outside and free. She could jump in the water and go back with her people. No one was stopping her.

After they kill Gruner they leave him alone they attacked him before thinking he is Gruner who was hold one of them as a Pet/Sex Slave and before you ask why she did not just leave it is implied Gruner raised her so she it was like the worst cases of domestic violence
I believe he's protecting them and staying at his post in order to stop more people from coming to the island in order to stop the slaughter of the creatures like he'd done upon first arriving.

The best part is that you don't predict what's going to happen next. The person controlling story development and writing of this movie, did an awesome job and deserves a lot of work because most movies are predictable crap. I say that having not watched the movie. It's just my opinion on the recap.

This looks a lot like "The Lighthouse" I wonder if that movie was inspired by this.
Exactly what I felt... There were some weird humanoid creatures too, albeit imaginary ones in the lighthouse.

I read the book in its original Catalan language "La pell freda" and there, the unnamed main character also sleeps with Aneris or I missed it here or they omitted that part in the movie.
