If no one has seen the speech that Lucious gives Ivy on the front porch you've got to do it. It's SO well acted. I've never felt so much emotion through a guy whispering and the other person's complete silence.
Joaquin phoenix best actor no cap
I hated that speech - he was aggressive, abusive, unless I misunderstood..
And it’s all side profile. 🤔
100% Agree with you! Every time I watch that scene, (and the one at the resting stone), I just wish it would go in slow motion. It slowly teases Lucius' feelings and emotions about Ivy, and you can see the conflict inside this very quiet, introverted, reserved person as he finally breaks free enough to, in effect, reveal to Ivy that yes, he does see her as his future wife. So many people hate this film because there aren't enough gunfights, car chases, and explosions, (none actually), but I love it. Yes there are some clumsy plot choices, but overall this is one of my favorite movies. And I must admit I've had a bit of crush on Bryce since I first saw her in her first scene in this movie. =)
Seeing those spikes brought back memories I've long since buried. Those were too disturbing. It gave me genuine fear of branches for like a week.

@@jessesdomain444 But interesting, No?
@@marciedresel7051 id still go see it though
Wouldn't happen, as it doesn't work that way. They can't and won't bust in and start arresting people simply because they find out the village exists. That is why real cults who actually do commit continual violence and atrocities against the people among them can't be arrested without authorities collecting a good amount of definitive physical evidence and victim testimony of said abuses etc before acting on any type of raid or arrests. Ffs

this was a great movie... the problem is it was marketed as some kind of horror/monster film and it was nothing like that. The real tragedy of this story is they started the village to get away from the "violence" of modern society and they still couldn't escape it, because one of their kids ends up stabbing the other one lol
That's one of the things that ruined it for me. I thought I was gonna see some cool monster stuff. But nope.
The other thing that ruined it was the nearly non-existent camera work for most of the movie. The still static shots ruined what was otherwise pretty superb acting, almost as if the lack of camera work was numbing the emotions that the actors were displaying. It made it so that even for scenes that were supposed to be dramatic, I nearly fell asleep. I don't know if anyone else finds camera work to be this crucial for a movie though. But for me it made it pretty much impossible for me to enjoy it. And that was a shame, because I could have gotten over the misleading marketing and overhyped beginning. It has a great premise, good plot, and likeable main characters. The twist was alright too. But man, I just wish it had some camera movement to keep me immersed. I've watched plays from the back seat where I was more immersed. I'm not asking for shakey cam or anything, but lone youtubers have better camera work in their videos, good enough to convince the audience that the same person can play multiple characters. So it can't be a budget thing. And it can't be a product of its time either, since movies have been using shots for a long time before this movie too. So why was the camerawork so damn absent in this movie? Laziness? Chosen style? IDK, and that frustrates me that such a simple thing ruined a movie for me.
The movie would never have worked of it wasn’t marketed that way. It allowed you to see the village through the eyes of the inhabitants.
Because no matter where you go, mental illness is a problem.
It is quite a thriller, though.
They also created their own horror with making up monsters everybody‘s terrified of, hypocritical

I just watched this movie again on cable. I loved the soundtrack, slow-paced story (although a bit of a fairy tale), and excellent acting. M Knight got a whole bunch of stars to sign up. I also like how he always makes a short appearance in his movies. I would recognize M Knight's voice anywhere.
I almost feel like they set this up for a 2nd movie with the guy who runs the forest protective place not being shown and all.
Nuh, it was just M. Night Shyamalan wanting to make a cameo in his own movie xD
The guy who set up the forest complex was the elder who's child had died. He was very good at business before he went in and made lots of money. He obviously bought the lot and hired a security team.
@@joshuavd5194 no, it had nothing to do with the village ffs. The person she met at the large gate she climbed over was a guard for an animal sanctuary, not security for the village.
@@kuywasaamazikeen8048 It's not a sanctuary. I think you missed the point. It was constructed by the elders, so that nobody would enter the village. This is backed up when Shyamalan's character speaks to Kevin about how the man who founded the sanctuary made it illegal for aircraft to fly over the sanctuary. The security obviously do not know this and, believe they're just maintaining the wall and whatnot. It's all part of the elder's foresight, my dude.

If you ever remember please come back here and share it!
the book is called Running Out of Time!
@@lotusblossom1550 thank you so much!!
I accidentally found that book sometime after I had watched this dumpster fire. The book isn't great, but it's okay. However, I think that the movie is NOT based on the book. More than 35 years ago, I wrote several extremely UNIQUE sci-fi stories that I kept secret, & that I never allowed ANYBODY else to know even existed. However (at least 20 years later at the earliest), I have read a few sci-fi stories (& even a few sci-fi movies) that were VERY similar to MY sci-fi stories. Despite their similarities, I KNOW that they didn't "steal my ideas" because they never knew that MY sci-fi stories existed.
My point is that sometimes people can have similar stories that are NOT "stolen from somebody else's stories".
