In a time when movies are declining in entertaining quality, is wonderful to have channels like this to break down the stories in an infinitely entertaining way. I appreciate the efforts.
@@StellarSurge I get that. But there is a glaring issue with entertainment quality in ALL media these days. It seems that the fact that so many projects are being produced has created a "factory-styled" emphasis on the old "quantity-not-quality" approach (one only has to look at the "Star Wars" franchise for proof). Sure, many gems are created and will always be, but it seems like the major emphasis is on marketing and hype, more than substance and value. This channel seems to try harder than most Hollywood studios these days.
@@Wardog01Actual Marketing and hype is a pretty major part of entertainment in general. After all ya can have the best movie in the world but without proper marketing no ones gonna know about it.
Personally speaking I don't think more emphasis on hype and marketing really affected the quality of movies in the recent years.
The rate at which good films come out seem fairly consistent comparing now to the past. There are some exceptions but generally speaking I don't think the number of good films have decreased significantly.
I'd even argue that in the recent years, films have been getting better not in the sense that the new good films are better than the old good ones, but there's been a fair decrease in the number of straight up bad movies imo.
@@molamola542 Fair enough. I would agree that there is much good to be found (depending on which genres you place your focus on), but when you look at the vast sea of options in all forms of entertainment media, from movies and television to music to video games, a pattern of unbalanced focus between marketing (many times just plain false advertising) and actual production quality.
The video game industry is especially notorious for this (think Cyberpunk 20blah-blah-blah). They went all in on the hype FOR YEARS, and presented a project that was broken beyond belief! And there are many more stories like this AND worse.
Television has gotten much better in recent years, mostly because they need to keep putting eyes in front of the television on a week-to week basis (although there's plenty of trash there too). But with movies, it's a one-and-done contact with each project. There's not much incentive above getting that ticket sale that one time.
All said, I don't disagree with any points made here. Each perspective makes sense to me. But because entertainment value is subjective, one can see a "golden age" because of what they're into, and one can see the fall of an industry because of what they enjoy. And rarely do the two perspectives agree.
You gotta watch movies in 1980p watching any new movie in 4k you basically see behind the scenes and it takes you out of the movie. But I agree the cgi is too much especially when they come out with 8k your gonna be able to see the green screen xD
@@Elbisivylerab Good one! I'm not nearly as concerned with "production value" as it pertains to visual fx or "movie magic" as much as I am dialogue, character development, flow and overall entertainment.
I've watched movies with sets that you can tell are falling apart as they shoot it, but they put there efforts into making it fun and thoughtful. You could see the love and effort placed in every scene from the writers, directors and actors.
And then I've seen multi-million-dollar projects that seemed to only be concerned with showing off the amount of money spent on it's production (Michael Bay's "Transformers" franchise comes to mind) with no heart or care for the source material, and little care for the audience's enjoyment, just shock and awe. I've also seen plenty of examples of the exact opposite of these situations.
But, in the end, it's still a matter of perspective. I used to collect movies (legally), paying money to own something I'd hope would be entertaining and worth the asking price. After so many disappointments, I started renting them, with the same issue arising. Eventually, I just started streaming them, so the impact of disappointment is much less now. But, it still seems that out of 10 movies I stream, I only ever watch one or two to the end. I'm not a snob by any means, and I try to give each project a fair chance, but I don't think the majority of creators are looking for that. Just cut the check, shut up and be happy!
The paranormal ww2 haunt is a neat idea. But the end looks disappointing.
Movie was pretty deadly tbh, I’d give. A watch.
Agreed, I don't know about anyone else but making a movie/series/story of any kind end with a loop of some sort is just lazy writing in my opinion
@@pandaboi8853 i havent seen the conclusion they were trying to say in the loop. But it really feels unnecessary. The whole supernatural ww2 themes are so rich is possible visual design, warfare, and myth that they don't need to use that stuff. There isn't a lack of ideas in this period, period.
The ending was disappointing, Chris going through the whole thing all over again instead of saving his team is the most unsatisfying ending I witnessed so far.
@@whothisgamer honestly man...
ghost of war overall was a neat movie at the start, but the “plot twist” at the end was just not it. they could’ve just stick to the world war II paranormal concept instead of adding some sci-fi to it. 5/10 for me, it was good while it lasted.
Yeah, the whole "it was all just a simulation" plot device feels like it's been done to death at this point.
I agree; feels very random.
That's what she said!
Sameeee the scifi element didnt feel like it fit the whole plot. I got confused what the genre of the movie is
I swear the number of movies that need to justify paranormal stuff with some annoying bullshit is infuriating
Basically they let an afghan family die on orders and the mother of that family attempted to kill them for letting them die. Vetrilek is a curse word and stigma that haunts their PTSD. But I think I would like it more if they didn't add the whole futuristic sci-fi thing to it.
The word also sounds like the trademark for a new, improved medication for erectile dysfunction.
Would have been a decent movie without the whole "oh noze fake ghosts are now real plz let me save my friends in the imaginary simulation" thing
True, the sci-fi futuristic thing was out of place.
Its so shitty cause its not like they wanted those families to die, blame the terrorist not the us soldiers
@@calliedawn6060 when someone killed ur whole family in front of you and the soldiers just hide there who will you blame the most?!
The plot twist killed the whole film. Mixing war, horror, and sci-fi themes together turned the story into a big mess.
This movie should've worked but the execution just wasn't it.
War, horror and scifi. Sounds like a great combination for a predator movie
it ruins the vibe of the movie.
it would've been much better if the ending stayed as WW2 still
the "It was all a simulation" trope sucks
When the ghosts actually became real to the soldiers in the simulation and everything past that absolutely ruined the film. It was working so well as a psychological, historical horror movie. It went from being extremely good to extremely bad.
The doctors in the movie: wanna cure their PTSD? lets put them into a simulation world with horrifying things that they cant escape! It will surely cure them! When they wake up, PUT THEM BACK TO SLEEP AGAIN AS PER THEIR REQUEST!
And the idea of ghost cursing into a computer run simulation? Bad idea.
Right, huh? Ridiculous. What was the writer thinking?
@@locutusdborg126 Probably got a few pointers from the VA.
If you actually watched the movie the soldiers are cursed and demons/ghosts “hack” into the simulator and that’s why horrific shit happens.
It seemed more like a sadistic experiment to drive them completely out of their minds. How is that a "cure"? Terrible ending!
Tell me you didn't watch the movie without telling me.
That twist at the end really didn't need to happen.
The movie started out strong with similarities to Deathwatch, but very quickly made it apparent it wanted to be a jumpscare horror instead of sticking with the beginning half where it wanted to be a paranormal critique on war.
There is actually a real story of an outpost that was occupied that apparently was super haunted. The men would hear canons and gunfire in the night and see “ghost soldiers” allegedly
I heard about that outpost in Afghanistan. When the soldiers were trying to dig fighting positions, they kept hitting human remains. Apparently, the outpost had been there for a very long time, perhaps even centuries, and had been the site of dozens of battles and hundreds of deaths. Most soldiers who spent significant time there would hear creepy radio transmissions and have frequent, terrifying hallucinations and nightmares that nearly drove them insane.

This reminds me of a ghost story my friend in the Marines told me:
He was stationed in one of the Appalachian states (I think Kentucky) on a nuclear missile base. The nuclear base is mostly underground with a labyrinth of tunnels 20-some stories deep for storage use and to disorient enemies should anyone infiltrate the base. However, the Marines were trained to memorize the entire underground maze and the correct process to search and attack. For nearly the entirety of his station, he and the rest of the Marines were bored out of his mind. So for fun, he would go and retrain with the Marines and pretend someone snuck into the base. Theyve done this so many times they could practically do it blindfolded.
One day roughly 4 in the morning, alarm goes off. It wasnt a drill. Thermal sensors were tripped and according to the thermal scan, 2 human sized bodies were moving about a dozen floors down.
Nobody knows how the hell they got that far down without getting caught, but that wasn't anyone's priority of thought. My friend and his buddies were HYPED. for most of them this was the first time they seen action. Everyone suits up and sweeps through the entire base. The had more than a dozen men at the only ways in and out, while they had the rest comb through every floor and searching in every box and nook and cranny.
found nothing
They check everything again, still nothing. Everyone was confused because there was no possible way for them to escape past over a hundred soldiers. Everyone had theories, first being faulty equipment. But according to the technicians maintaining the scanners, it still wouldn't have been reading signals that's happen to be exactly the same size and shape as a person. Second was the possibility of the scanners catching a hot pipe or electrical cable, but the sensor trip originated from a room that had neither, not that it could explain why the heat signal was shaped like a human and not shaped like a long horizontal pipe.
and so the only thing they concluded were ghosts. everyone was feeling extra religious that day and my friend never went back down there again
I love this channel, being able to watch 5 movies in an hour!
I think that this is a great recap and an even better movie and it has two concepts that I never thought would go together.

What a twist, with them being modern soldiers but enduring the memory as if they were in ww2. As much as I love the channel it just portraits how the consuming spiral just goes faster and faster. While I enjoy it hugely i can also see how we just shove stuff into us at a faster rate because we became so addicted to just observing. Without experiencing it ourself.... We detach more from day to day. The internet generation is suffering from its effects on the psyche. Imagine how it becomes for the people after us. Do they adapt better or will they even suffer more. The midlife crisis isn't at midlife anymore guys... Let that one sink in.

You can see the BS people tell themselves in the comments when they say they like the voice. It’s literally monotonous and boring. The story is what’s exciting and we get it pumped into us in 12 minutes rather than spread over 2 hours so it’s like a drug. That’s why these channels blew up and are being demonetized now after YT took notice.
Guys, make sure you read some classic books and go watch a full movie if you really enjoyed it. Don’t let your brains suffer! I went and watched this after the first 15 seconds and reading some reviews. I don’t regret it although the ending was a letdown. We need to absorb the nuance of creative storytelling and character building so we can appreciate the world more!
I've seen this movie and it's actually pretty good...
The only downside I would say, was near the ending with all the futuristic simulations and Sci-Fi theming - it wasn't really necessary; they could've just kept it more towards the mental well-beings (PTSD) of the soldiers than made them wear funny headgear and wired them up. Other than that, the reveal of what, where and who the soldiers were fighting was really good and unexpected, and that also gave the story a really good moral and meaning to it: that war is and always will be the same, no matter who is on what side and people will get hurt, physically and mentally.
