Here are the Review Notes:
Pros:
- Ready To Fly (RTF) out of the box with everything you need.
- 2S Power on a compact trainer plane for more fun after you learn to fly.

I loved it. I just ordered this, but afterwards wanted to find more videos of it from a source other than from Arrow and I’m glad I found yours. This video only made the feeling of purchasing this plane even better. I’m so much more confident after watching how well you flew this plane. I’m extremely a beginner still with planes. Have a few years of drones and I’m very confident at that but I need trainers still and this Pioneer looks like a winner!

Thanks David! Yep, that first take-off was a combo of a weird pocket of air I encountered and me mashing on the elevator up and down for some reason. The good news is that I was toggling in and out of the stabilization mode the entire rest of the flight without any issues 😎

Thank you! It would depend on what you are looking for to make that call. This wins on loops and being RTF out of the box. The UMX Turbo Timber win on aileron rolls, flaps, and lights. They are a little apples to oranges, but I am legit impressed that the Pioneer feels as good as it does.
Nice review, just order mine, I'm a very advance pilot, but I love these little planes, it seems to be a little pitch sensitive on the elevator, could be the CG is off just a little, I usually tape one or two pennies to the nose of all these high wing micros, they fly so much better with a little nose weight added...
Thanks! I will be able to get a better sense in less windy conditions, which I am hoping to fly in soon.
Same with my OMPhobby S720, just used a heavier battery, to bring CoG more forward. That really tamed it on the pitch axis, and using a hobby grade radio made it even better, with much improved center stick control. Even without any expo.
Do you think that if I placed a GoPro hero 10 either behind the landing gear or propeller it would fit and fly fine or will it highly affect the aerodynamics? If it won’t work, what plane (possibly the cheapest but best you know) would you recommend me to record some landing gear shots of the plane landing?
Beeps definitely seem to be about a minute apart. That turned out good.

@@GBLynden Another reviewer timed the beeps and verified these occur every minute. So it's a rudimentary timer, but a bit annoying. Along with the low roll rate, I'm having doubts about getting this one. It flies smooth, seems durable and the big tires and steering tail wheel are nice, along with the value for money. But I'd rather not have these beeps, or only starting after 5 minutes or so, or telemetry activated, if the battery gets below a certain voltage.

Thank you Brad! You know, that first take-off was just weird as I was too rough on the elevator inputs, but it also hit a weird pocket of air at the wrong time. It was the maiden take-off, so like always, I had to keep it on there, since I only edit out camera fuzzes 👊🏻💥👊🏻

Thank you and they appear to be about 2 inches in diameter. This is touted as an RC Plane that can go on lots of different terrain. They are pretty big for a trainer plane :)
I took a chsnce and just ordered one of these. I wish someone would open one of these up and shop in internals... Receiver, esc, servos...
I really like mine and have flown it a bunch off camera. It is similar to the UMX Timber, but it more durable.
The last time I flew RC, we were still using FM radios and glow fuel, and guys who brought ARF planes to the field were teased. Times have really changed. Me and two of my RC buddies from way back when now live close to one another agsin and we thought it would be fun to grab these RTF planes, fly around the back yard for old time's sake. Still, there's part of me that wants to dig into the fuselage to see how everything is mounted and wired.
That all makes sense and welcome back to the hobby! 😀 If you do dig into the fuse, please let me know what you find in there lol All I know for sure is it flies well and is a very fun plane. In the Expert Mode, it is very responsive.
Is this the best newbie plane? I'm choosing between this and one of the volantex warbirds.
This one by far, but be sure to keep it in the beginner mode. One of those Warbirds will crash right away for a beginner.
@@GBLynden I was interested to hear your experienced opinion on the suitability of the Volantex/"Eachine" Mini Warbirds for beginners. I did a search for your videos on the planes but could not find anything. Could you provide a link?
Does this plane have a motor cut-off when the battery gets low to protect it? My little Eachine fighter-planes do that.
Update: Got my Pioneer 620 ... it doesn't have a motor cutoff..
So I'm going to add one of my low-voltage beepers.
Edit: I see that you got yours and figured it out. I will say that the flight times with this plane are very long and I have not set it down with less than 45% left in the pack flying a solid 6-7 minutes with mixed throttle.
@@GBLynden Thanks for the reply. On my first flight, I accidentally ran mine down below what should have been a cutoff voltage. I had gotten used to the 15 minute flights of my little 1S Eachine fighters. I'll probably try a bigger battery when I buy some, since there is lots of room inside. Still studying my best options there.
Oh my! You must have been having a good time reaching flight times that long! I suggest setting a timer on your cell phone to avoid issues like that. It is very rare for a plane to fly more than 8-10 minutes.
@@GBLynden Thanks for the suggestion. Been flying it a bunch with a loud low-voltage beeper on the battery's balance plug. My new problem is that I just lost the three tiny screws that connect the prop-adapter to the motor's rotor. They were hidden behind the spinner so I didn't notice them getting lose, plus it flew normally until the last one fell out. Will definitely use Loctite if I can find some replacements.
Got one last year, then crashed. Just ordered this and the Bigfoot as a replacement for Christmas

@@GBLynden Completely user error. Was training my sister and it nose dived. She wasn’t acclimated to the reverse controls. The pioneer dosent have yaw axis restrictions in stability mode, so she went down hard
Oh dang! I am glad it wasn’t a mechanical error or something, but it is such a cool little plane, it makes me sad when people crash one 👊🏻💥👊🏻

Smart man! I can’t think of a plane purchase I have completely regretted in all of the years I have been flying. Most you can get sorted, even if they don’t fly perfectly on the maiden.
Perhaps they could introduce an intermediate mode between full off and full stabilization, kind of like traction control modes in a sports car.
That is a good idea, but the Stability Mode feels like a hybrid beginner mode and intermediate mode, which I think will actually increase the odds for long-term success and lead to more fun quicker 👊🏻💥👊🏻
