  • When you begin pulling a trailer, in our case a CanAm Freedom Trailer, you need a certain set of skills. Today we are going to be learning the fundamentals. How to hook up a trailer harness, how to safely hook the trailer up to the vehicle, We are also going to discuss, break down and demonstrate how to back-up with the trailer, riding in baad weather, make a u-turn, 2point turn and 2 point turn on a standard 2 lane road. There's a lot to e done... So , pull up a chair, grab a cup of coffee and let's brush up on our trailer maneuvering skills.

    Got to lay down some truth, I normally will not, (and i mean will not 99% of the time) sit through 36 minutes of video on you tube, i just can't stand sitting here watching a long video, and throw in some advertisements, and i am just gone. But this one was a very informative and enjoyable video, and i couldn't believe it was over so quickly. Great job getting some great information and demonstrations out here where we can actually see what is going on. I love your videos, you bring it down to earth, and I appreciate the honesty and heartfelt way you approach the subject at hand. Makes me want to go and jump on my spyder and bebop on down the road! Thanks again.

    Coach Bob, your video's are always informative, enjoyable and the info with the demonstrations, placing the cones to mark the area and how you talk, not just turn right turn left, Your voice. Is very calm in the way that you tell us how to turn the trailer. It's very calming. The way you're videos are very informative, the value is priceless. And I know you put a lot of time editing your videos and I know a lot of people and me, we appreciate all that you do. I'm getting ready to go on a very long trip with my Spyder and a bunch of other guys And I will be pulling in a trailer too. Coach, Bob, thank you, thank you, and thank you for all your tips on pulling in backing a trailer with the Can-Am Spyder. Dj

    Just a tip, I always use a padlock on my trailer instead of a pin. My reason is that a lock won’t fail. A pin probably won’t but weird things happen. My cousin was almost killed due to a trailer popping off a ball and crossing a highway and hitting her head on. The driver of the tow vehicle had a pin with clip in the proper position however it did fail, it was on a small chain so it was still on the tow vehicle after the accident. Being overly safe never hurt anyone. Thanks for the great videos!!

    Hello Coach Bob hope you and Coach Vic are doing well , back in the day when I was in my mid 20's I used to ride a motorcycle and now that I'm 63 went on you tube to see the CanAm Spyder cause I have seen them on the road down here in south Florida where I live and I happen to stumble on to your videos and I subscribed and I'm very happy to have found them because although I can't afford to buy one I go on the rides with you and Coach Vic all the time thru you're videos . Thanks for all the fun rides and information it is very interesting and I pray that some day before it's to late for me I can have one of these wonderful Trikes to go out and enjoy the road with my wife like you and Coach Vic are doing so thanks again and God Bless you both .

    All truth. I have had a Freedom Trailer with my F3LTD from the day I bought it (matched set).
    The trailer tracks in your path of travel with no effort. You basically only see it in your mirrors while turning, and if the nose fits, the trailer will follow....
    In NC heavy highway downpour I hit about 30yds of standing water at 55+, and felt the Spyder hover a touch, but the Trailer acted like surfboard stabilizer fins, and was able to cut thru like it was a jetski. (Standing snowmobile style actually helps that)....
    A good trailer handling sequence I always train others with is:
    1. Straight line, and max Fwd turns left and right.
    2. Straight line backing 20yds
    3. Backing left 90°, Backing Right 90°, pull back out of both with Turn from Stop with trailer.
    (Special focus on improving to back by mirrors mostly with occassional headchecks.)
    The only thing I would add to your MOST EXCELLENT breakdown, would be the Pretrip check of spotting that the trailer Lights (turn, break, running) actually light up and run.
    Awesome vid and great runthru.
    Rubber-Side Down!

      I sure could've used your skill training when I first got the trailer. I spent many hours developing the skills for the "tight parking lot areas". My abilities have improve, but, are still a work in progress.
      Thank you for the comment...

    One thing I like to do is adjust that nut under the coupler to the point it takes some effort to push the latch down, then pull up on the tongue , resulting in just a small amount of up and down movement. Also some grease the ball, others will place a dryer sheet over the ball when hooking up, to give it some lubrication... I also have run it dry, the only time I’ve felt like it binding was leaned over in a real tight turn, after 26 years of pulling trailers, I’ve never had a problem...

    Hi Coach Bob And Vick. Have you guys given any thought to attending the DeLand Spyder Fest October 8-11. Would love to meet you guys and say hi. We went last year and it was good. This year the Road Warrior Foundation will conclude one of their sponcered rides in DeLand. This Benefits solders with PSD and other issues to spend time together on Spyders supplied by BPR in a community of other solders suffering from similar problems. From getting to know you thru your videos I know you could be a great encouragers to these road warriors. Hope you’ll consider it. Quite a few of us are coming from Ocala and staying at the comfort inn near the event headquarters OBs Restaurant. Lots of venders too. Enjoy your videos very much. Ray & Linda from Ocala,Fl

    Great job CB. So is there any sort of suspension on the trailer or is it just a straight axle? & how does the contents inside the trailer ride? Do they get bounced around? Is there any tie downs or netting for it?

    • @CoachBob3
      @CoachBob3  Před 3 lety +1

      It has a little independent suspension setup. No tie downs inside. But. We’ve never had any problems. It is very smooth and my biggest problem with the trailer...is forgetting it is their.
      Hope you’re doing well. God bless.

      I love our CanAm Freedom Trailer and highly recommend it. BRP doesn't really show them on their site. They do show all of the accessories for it. I shopped via Cycle Trader and called CanAm dealers. Here are a couple of links for when we were shopping and purchasing.
      czcams.com/video/padMz8MMZds/video.html
      czcams.com/video/t9uXpMO_w6U/video.html
      It has served us very well.
      Also...Bushtec makes a high quality trailer.
      There is a company in the Daytona FL area.. here's their FB Link:
      facebook.com/billstrailersales/
      they have some that are quite affordable and used trailers as well.
      I hope this helps. If you need any more information don't hesitate to ask.

    I was wondering, do you use automobile wax on your Spyder? I use Pledge. Works fine for me.

    • @tripletreading6993
      @tripletreading6993 Před 4 lety

      Pledge offers zero protection to the paint. One product I have found is TurlteWax Black Ice in a spray bottle. You can spray this on the black plastic parts and it won't stain like normal car wax. However, I have found that with a bike cover and humidity, Black Ice tends to smudge and needs wiping every time the cover is removed. Last time I cleaned, I used car wax and carefully avoided any black plastic. Now I remove the cover and no smudges.

    You shouldnt toss video with missing audio.. You could easily just use it as b-roll footage.
    Imagine a time where you want to speak about a topic or tell a story but the weather is just not cooperating. (hurricane otw to you for example) You could use that footage to make your video without risking safety.
