- Our friend, Spyder Wayne, spent a few days with us camping out in his Kompact Kamp Trailer. In this video, he gives us a tour of his Mini Mate model and his camping equipment. He shows us how easy it is to disassemble for hauling with his 2020 Spyder RT Limited, nicknamed Oreo.

I love my minimate..It will be my home away from home when I travel the country. I pull mine with my Subaru. I picked the minimate as my camping equipment over a tent or an rv because it's so practical to pull, very light and won't even feel you're towing behind your vehicle.

It was my long passion to visit every national parks. Before that I had a tear drop trailer I just felt it wasn't right for me as it was too awkward because your on your rear all the time unless you drop your legs out the door. The minimate, you can stand inside and arrange it so you can cook and eat inside plus you have a complete privacy to have a toilet too. I am currently in California and my the minimate is at Las Vegas in my brother's garage. Will be heading back there next week and camp around Vegas before heading to the Grand Canyon and beyond.

I have done 3 national parks. Grand Canyon, Joshua Tree National Park and Death Valley are 3 parks I look forward to visit. Im selling my minimate as my plans does not agree with my health. Ive been having health issues considering that Im 70 and the person I bought it from 2 years ago was the same reason he sold it cause he could no longer travel. Love my minimste dearly but you have to givr up your passion if youre confronted with health issues.
Oh, I am sorry to hear that about your health issues. 🥺 Hope your health can be restored to the point that you will be able to do some traveling even without the minimate. ❤️

I used to motocamp before it was called motocamping. I didn't even use a tent. Just slept on the ground. Wouldn't think of doing that now. I'll stick to motels.🤣 That looks a lot more comfortable than sleeping on the ground for sure.

@@PurpleOnThree I don't think tough is the right word. I just didn't have much storage on my bikes back then. I was a teenager when I did that. By the time I was 20 I didn't camp much without a tent and other niceties I carried in my car. For a little over 20 years I only rode my bike to work and maybe 10 day rides. I was 43 before I began to ride bikes on vacations and then I stayed in motels. Oh and back then I never ate anything for breakfast at all. I' still don't eat it very often. When I do I have to have pancakes or french toast.

Well, yes, BD Rider, that makes perfect sense...I will be happy to camp if TommyG hauls the trailer! Yes, Wayne has a great set up and is going to be able to tour the country and not spend a fortune. You know you can bring a cooler any time and we will fill it up!!😂
That little camper makes for quite the nice set up. I am little disappointed that the fridge did not have beer in it 😉

Love it, showed this to the wife thinking she would ask about those campers, she said how much do those spiders run? Lol
Brand new, the RT Limited is abiut $28k to $29k depending on dark or chrome version. The Sea to Sky version comes with a few more premum accessories and is just over $30k. To put a little perspective on it, it's pretty much the same price as a fully loaded Goldwing Touring DCT ABS. The fully loaded Touring Harley's are well over $30k, and the Spyders are WAY less than the Goldwing or Harley Trikes. But the Canam Ryker starts at less than $10k, but it's not designed for 2 up travelling. The Spyder F3 starts in the low $20k, and the RT (not the Linited version) starts in the mid $20k.
So somewhat pricey for the Touring Syders but priced very well for what they are competing with.
Oh and for storage space, there is no competition. Nothing compares or even comes close to the storage space the Spyders have.

Dean! Spyder Wayne has one nifty set up for sure! Another little camper trailer is one that Eddie of @Windytherapy has....used to be called a Leisure Lite...also very nice! Have you done mucy motocamping? We just started last year with our tent...it's not so bad...preference is a cabin if we can find one, but gosh, in Alaska they were very expensive!

Mine is an 86 shell with a 2014 trailer. Canvas is still in excellent condition. Company does not sell replacement canvas though when I reached out to them but if I ever have problem with the canvas, I'll turn it into a cargo trailer to load my camping gear.

@@PurpleOnThree i got it last year from an old man from Indianapolis who pull it with his Harley. Ive camped on it countless times and even lived on it continously for 3 weeks at an Illinois state campground before I head out west. Just ordered a diesel heater to heat the minimate in campgrounds without electric hookup. I usually heat mine with an electric space heater in addition to using a 12v electric blanket in lieu of a sleeping bag.
Well that sounds quite adventurous! I would say you are using it a lot and sounds like it is working quite well for you!

Hi Earl. For the first 3 seasons (2021 to 2023) I did not have power to the fridge, while towing. I just used ice packs while towing. This year, I am now using a small CPAP battery that fits perfectly in one of the outside pouches on the fridge's insulated cover. This battary lasts for about 10 to 12 hours, so it lasts almost all day. Then I charge it at night. The one I have is an Easylonger ES400 and it weighs only 2 lbs, and it's available on Amazon.

So I tried copycatting your ideas, purchased a BourgeRv refrigerator. Tried tied it down the way you have yours. Here in Pa, my small refrigerator moved so much side to side. I don’t know how you fix your problem. But I contacted Ric Kustom polishing her in Monessen and I have no-more worries

Wayne sure loves his mini mate and he gets a lot of use out of it! As far as I know, it does not have brakes as it is pretty lightweight.
@@PurpleOnThree OK, lightweigt trailers can be breakless or in some cases they have the spring kind of break that when you break, there is a spring before the hook that is actuated mechanically. Do you see any break drums or disks inside the wheels?
