    I must agree with your assessment 100%. Look at it this way, hopefully videos like this will show BRP where they need to improve in areas and keep others. With the launch of the redesigned Spyder RT in 2020, they have said "We have listened to the Spyder Riders all over the world and told us what they wanted." Well, guess what BRP, you need to listen to them AGAIN!

Everything you said about loving and hating the Spyders are "spot on" - we both love and hate these machines. Love the trikes, angry with BRP and their dealerships. We like everything about this video. Great job!

  • @SpyderWayne
    @SpyderWayne Před 3 lety +5

    The passion you have for both the positive and negative in this review is amazing. It's honest and from the heart. I didn't realize how much your #1 dislike is so obvious, yet I just had accepted it as normal from day 1, that loud obnoxious clunck when putting into gear, worse than my old Honda VTX which was a loud clunk as well.
    My favorite part of this video was your thoughts on the handbrake, by the time you were done, I was cheering you on !!
    Quality control issues, spot on, there can be a grocery list for this. The obvious one for the 2020 model year was loose mirrors. Mirrors quickly started vibrating within a couple weeks new, got so bad, one miiror was totally useless, had to get this fixed. BRP didn't cover or fix this issue, but they offered an $80 or $90 solution for the parts, plus you had to pay for labor if you went to a dealer. Lamonster put out a solution (miiror locks) for $23 and a good video on how to install. My mirrors have been rock solid thanks to Lamonster.
    And those cheap stickers and plastic reflectors on a $30k machine, you said it perfectly.
    Luv'd the 5a and 5b solution to keeping your list 5, haha.
    As for the storage, yes yes yes !!! I also have a Tour Pack bag, rounded in the back of the bag to fit on a Pillion seat with a tour pack, it's flat on top for an additional strap on bag, I can carry more than I need including the kitchen sink, haha. I would give up that pillion bag storage in a heartbeat though, I would much rather have a rider sitting back there, to share the riding and traveling joys and fun, hopefully one day.
    I have to agree that none of the "bad" issues are show stoppers, and BRP will likely address most of those (they do need to dump that BRP app, hopefully add Apple Car Play and Android Auto). But the Spyder is still just a young pup, it's only a "teenager" and has come a long way in a short period of time.
    Another great honest review Coach Bob !!! 👍👍👍

    Another great vlog! Especially agree with the quality control amongst dealers & the wind engineering. Just crossed the Mojave Desert, 106 degrees & very high winds. Slowed down 5 mph & no problem. A motorcycle passed me & was leaned over almost 45 degrees. Thanks for the great observations.

    Thank you for your channel, it's very informative. I'm looking into going from 2 to 3 wheels, researching between rear trike and the Spyder. I love your comment about a thorough look at your newly purchased Can-Am before taking it home. My concern is where can I go to get the necessary information I need to do the inspection. As a newly to the Can-Am world, I don't now what it should look like. BRP is not the only one with integrated mapping issues. Even the Honda Gold Wing hasn't worked it out. I agree with the lighting issue and add that ALL motorcycles need more lighting.

    I agree with your list, Coach Bob. However, my RT is my first ever " motorcycle", so the lack of a hand brake is no problem for me. Maybe I don't know enough to know what I'm missing. Number one you are helping BRP understand that they have made mistakes and may be pushing away potential buyers. I love your videos and the help that you are giving us all. God bless you and Coach Vic and keep the awsome videos going. After about 2 years of planning and researching you make me want to bite the bullet and get my Spyder F3-T earlier than next year. @timebandit5868 Před 3 lety

      I agree quit a few little problems that BRP should have adreessed by now but the enjoyment of the ride has been worth it. Hopefully by the time my warranty is up all the glitches will be addressed. BRP should add a manual parking break which would seem to be a simple fix on a 25k machine. Would also like to see the klunking of the transmission addressed but after dealing with our two Rykers the Spyder klunk is next to nill.

  • @johnm.harper773
    @johnm.harper773 Před 3 lety +3

    I am on my third Spyder, and agree BRP should wake up on Quality Control! Also their Dealer network in terrible, watch Harley network, or Honda and learn! Most dealers hate to see a Spyder come in for repairs and will keep it for weeks! A Spyder is a well designed machine, we need Dealers that care, and want to have return customers! The 10 cent Techs, need to have better training! I am scared to own one without a warranty, the reliability is ranked number 10 out of a possible 10!

    Well Mr. Coach Bob, let me tell you what I think about your pluses and minuses for the Spyder………………….you are absolutely spot on!! Having owned my RTL for just over 2 years I totally agree with all the things you mentioned, good and bad. One additional issue I have is this: digital display is great, but what’s up with the analog needles for speedo and tach? They do nothing, no numbers to read? Yes, the needles move but they’re of absolutely no use. Loved the video and hope you’re having a great trip! Ryde safe.

    It is a very large machine, cross winds are just going to be an issue but, they have spent a lot of time in wind tunnels with these machines, you don't get a lot of wind from the front and rain is pushed away from the rider. I ride the tri glide and things just fly out of my shirt pocket and hats off my head (AZ and no helmet law) One the Spyder things stay where they should be.

  • @spyderingwithdandenise7064

    Thank you for the honesty. We bought a 2020 RTL in January. Lots of investigation into the machines and yes they are not perfect but! They are amazing to ride. Reflective stickers, seriously? That and the harmonic between 45 to 55 mph from the belt. Going to get the belt tensioner. So badly want the floorboard led and rear fender plus saddle bag lights.

    Transmission into 1st and reverse hate the clunk too, however with the Pedal Commander I have found shifting up like a regular motorcycle the shifting is slick, get it right and its just click, I have given up on BRP App. Touring beast for sure. I have gotten used to having a foot break only, but agree making the hand brake an option would be great. Storage is good enough. BRP aftermarket customer support agree is not good and each dealer is an independent and BRP can't / won't do anything. You have to find a good dealer and stick with them. Design geometry agree 😎 I like to add extra lights for safety but having them in the first place would be nice. Being an older gentleman sometimes a bigger display of some of the information would be good, Speakers and heaters, a big thumbs up😎 Seat for me is comfortable but I think a ButtBuffer is in the future. All other points I agree. Keep the videos coming.

    The hand brake (or lack of) issue is my deal breaker. It just burns me up to think about sinking $20k in something I can't even drive home. I don't know if you have looked at the Rykers but I can't even find anyone that does the after market hand brake for them. Probably because the foot peg and brake controls are adjustable. I'm sure it can be done but probably not without voiding the warranty. My wife was interested in a Ryker but said she didn't want one if I couldn't ride it also. I guess I have ranted enough. Great video, safe travels. ✌

    • @jimroscovius
      @jimroscovius Před 3 lety +1

      I rode a two-wheeler for seven years, but had no problem switching to a foot brake. I drove a car for a long time, so a foot brake feels natural.

    • @ohiovalleyrider8623
      @ohiovalleyrider8623 Před 3 lety +1

      I guess I forgot to say why I can't use the foot brake. I am a right above the knee amputee and left below the knee amputee. To use the foot brake I would have take hand a guide my prosthetic to the pedal. If the pedal was on the left side I could my knee to move to the brake and use it. But technically my license same hand controls only so legally I wouldn't be allowed to do that.

    • @CoachBob3
      @CoachBob3  Před 3 lety +1

      I 100 percent agree... It burns me up also. I also have not found one for the Ryker. I have searched high and low. I have seen people install a handbrake with a master cylinder and tap into the braking system.. You should never have to do that. CanAm/BRP needs to fix this issue.

    Another great video, I have a new F3 and at 75 mph the vibration was crazy, felt like a transmission issue, after some research I installed a Lamonster belt tensioner, as you stated the bike should have came with one from the factory. The tensioner made a world of difference. Ride Safe

  • @spyderskipper
    @spyderskipper Před 3 lety +3

    Certainly agree with you Coach on those points. I could add one but it might be sorta covered in your negative point 5. I have a 2021 F3 Limited....absolutely love it but I get a shake in the handle bars at about 65 give or take if I have a little load on the machine...Load meaning I have to give it a little power up a hill. This runs me nuts...Its not the balance of the front tires... I believe it is the pull on the belt. I did put the tensioner on there but it didn't take it out. So I believe quality control like you said is very lacking. Shouldn't be like this on a new machine. Anyway, best to you guys...keep it up!

  • @Dan-rm7op
    @Dan-rm7op Před 3 lety +1

    Bob, I agree with you. There are several more things I would like to see BRP change. I have a 2020 RT limited previously I had a 2018 RT limited. First of all I must say I really love the bike! however a few things I would like to see BRP change is I would like to see a 7th speed transmission, I believe that would bring those RPMS down more. I would like to see a tire monitoring system, I would like to see some sort of a remote or key fob that you could lock your trunk and saddlebags with just a push of a button. Also they have to do something with the FM radio reception it is terrible! I know that most people use their phones to play music, I also do that myself but occasionally I don't mind listening to a few radio stations. As far as the clunk you hear when you put the bike into gear a lot of bikes including Harleys do the same thing, Shawn smoak has a CZcams channel that explains what that clunk actually is. Plus he has a lot more information on spiders and BMWs and many other bikes, he is a mechanic for over 40 years that works on these machines all the time. Coach Bob, keep up the great work I love your CZcams channel!

    SPOT ON COACH BOB! Totally agree that the BRP app is a hot mess. I find the mirrors feel kinda low. Considering some Big Eyes from Lamonster, not sure yet. All I know is I sure love my Bratmobile and I get grumpy on the days I don't ride. Question...cleaning/detailing the Spyder...some people swear by Lemon Pledge to clean their ride. Others love F11. What do you recommend? Do you like to do a super thorough detail job or just wash and go? Thank you and I really appreciate all you do to keep these videos coming!

    They can't get enough parts to build them complete for the showroom floor !!!

    Coach Bob - First time watcher of your video and it sounds like your experiences as a seasoned rider is just what I am looking for.
    I have gone out on about 4 test rides on Can Am Spyder RT Limited starting on a 2012 model year and the latest ride was on 2021. These machines are expensive but captures my attention on the beauty, safety and unique riding experience on the demo rides. I haven’t pulled the trigger on one yet because I have been riding my two wheels and still immensely love riding them. I have also thought about a traditional trike like a Harley or Goldwing. I have only test driven a Harley trike and that was cool too.
    Here’s where I am searching for information that might help a lot of us in the market for three wheels. My greatest desire is to pull an ultra lightweight trailer up to that rated 400 pound range for motorcycling on three wheels to go camping in various places. The three options of course are the traditional trikes in Honda and Harley and now the Spyder RT Limited. Been eyeing up a used 2018 Spyder RT with nearly 24,000 miles on it. Dealer would take my trades for no out of pocket expenses on my end.
    What are your thoughts about the best trikes to use pulling that 400 pound trailer? Do you have experience with trailers? For the record, I have tons of experiences pulling trailers of many types and weights with all different kinds of vehicles but not with a trike.
    What is your best recommendation? Is the front wheel hydroplaning a big issue on the Can Am if more weight is shifted towards the back of a Can Am with a trailer? That’s not my primary concern since I don’t ride in the rain but if a rider gets caught in a rain event, well you know what is being asked here I think.
    Would value any input from you.
    Thanks in advance!

      We own a CanAm Freedom trailer and have gad great success with pulling it across the country a couple of times. We don't do any camping, as of yet, when we tour. I used to hike and own a lot of light weight caming gear that would suit our needs if we ever decide to start doing that.
      We love our little freedom trailer and highly recommend them. They're no perfect and the fit and finish leaves me a little disappointed at times (for the money spent) but they are solid and work great. I'm going to drop links to a couple of videos in reference to the CanAm trailer and just trailers in general.

    Wow what a great video. The problem is, the dislikes has put me into RANT AND SWEAR MODE. But I'll try to keep it simple. Let's start with the reflectors, how stupid are they?? Every reflector should be Led turn signals. Next the belt tensioner, if it needs one, put it on at the factory. It would probably take 30 seconds or so to install and cost about $ 5.00 . The new Spyders with the mirror problem really?? The quality control is a biggie for me. I mean, if you are paying 25- 30,000 $ for a vehicle, it shouldn't feel like you are buying an experimental kit with cheap or missing components. BUT... The boil maker, is the dealerships. I live in the Metro area of Denver, Colorado not a small rural town. There is 4 dealers authorized to sell the Spyders, if they have any in stock, it will only be one that is probably unpopular, with little interest. Then sales people know very little about them, and don't want to be bothered.
    BRP has been doing this Spyder" thing " for a few years now, they have had plenty time and revenue to work out these problems. Ok. Ok. I'll stop here. Thanks for the Ryde along. Stay Alert. Ryde Safe in a fun way. Thanks for sharing. Keep on Spydering. 😎.

    If you don’t like the clunk then you won’t like a Goldwing as they do it. Most motorcycles do it. Dumping $100 on the GPS app is bad compared to $600 on a Garmin??? Too funny! Bosch is the developer of it and it’s a lesser version of MySpin which comes on high end European vehicles like Land Rover. Any new device takes a bit of learning to get used to. I know it had problems at first but I love it. Way cheaper than a Garmin and I don’t have to have gadgets cluttering the handlebars. (Which can damage the gadgets BTW). Plus if a cop sees you playing with the phone it could be expensive. Using the joystick doesn’t get noticed.

    • @CoachBob3
      @CoachBob3  Před 2 lety

      The motorcycles that I have ridden for the last 45 years don't even resemble the CanAM clunk.The lack of a clutch and feeling that drop into gear is a tad unnerving. Many Spyder are shearing off metal parts with the clunk.
      The interface on the BRP app fails each time I shut the Spyder down and it is very cumbersome. The BRP App is a real thorn.. I feel it is a great start.. but without further development it is a waste of time and energy.
      I do agree it is much cheaper option... But.. I really do appreciate the ease of operation associated with the Garmin. I hope BRP develops the app...I really do want to like it. After crossing the continent twice on the Spyder.. I used my iPhone and Garmin. Both served me well.

      @@CoachBob3 You use the Garmin because you’re used to it. Instead of BRP trying to develop it further, how’s about the users try to learn it. Bet you didn’t find the Garmin easy at first. Not many did, same thing with the phone technology, needs to be used to get better at it. It’s unfortunate that so many want it to be easy and since it take a bit more effort, they give up and go back to what they know.

I'm glad you like the BRP App... But as for me.. I will pass until I don't have to open my frunk each time I turn my Spyder off to reset the App. Or haver to pull over on an interstate because it simply decides not to work. All of which happened many times over a year of working with it.
      The Garmin is also far from perfect.. but it is stable in its performance. Which when I am traveling is paramount.

My views are in fact ...TRUTH... with ten's of thousands of miles riding on a Spyder and 2 wheels , 2 continent crossings on a Spyder and decades of experience on two and three wheelers to back that up.
