I forgot most of these even existed. It’s sad how forgettable all these streaming shows and movies are. At least for 100 flops we get one good film tho, or 1 good season before they ruin it or cancel it 😂
I spent most of the year on K-dramas. The One piece adaptation and new season of Hilda were pretty solid. Glad to see Reservation Dogs gets a few seconds of recognition.
Just easier to make fun of lackluster mainstream films.

Jason Schwartzman had a renaissance era this year too. Scott Pilgrim takes off, Spiderman into the spiderverse, hunger games the ballad of songbirds and snakes and astroid city. That dude is a great actor and I hope to see him more in films in the future

Arguing over “who gets more deck chairs on the titanic” is the perfect metaphor for the strikes this year.
Hey, it's not like the strikers were asking for the blood of every Hollywood executive's first born child, they just want a living wage and job security.

I think I've grown back into really enjoying Nick cage because even when he doesn't give a fk about the role you can tell he loves being an actor, and anyone who loves their job like that is nice to see
Some of my favorite watches of the last couple years include Willy's Wonderland, and The Unbearable Weight of Massive Talent.
For Willy's in particular, every moment Cage was on screen was pure gold and every moment focused on other characters was flaming hot garbage.
He gives 110% to every role.
Lack of debt to worry about anymore means he can be more choosy with his roles again. I feel like he hasn't really had a "bad" role in some time. Even gonna take it easy for a bit now.

And he can still ACT. He was fantastic in the Colour Out Of Space adaptation a few years ago, and his Cage-ness actually worked perfectly with the Lovecraftian horror. He really nailed when to over- vs under-play a line, and was very creepy for it.
It still baffles me to this day that Batgirl was not allowed to be seen, despite Shazam 2 and The Flash being released.

To be fair to Jamie Lee Curtis, she has worked consistently for four decades and her fantastic performances prove she deserves the roles she gets. She is also at this point a bigger star than either of her parents ever were. Very few "nepobabies" have had such consistent and long careers.
I and I think most people have No problem with Napo Babies it's just when they act like they earned everything that bugs people 🙄

2023's movie releases have also included some outstanding Japanese films. Godzilla: Minus One, The Boy and the Heron and Suzume have all been amazing films👏👏👏.

Why is Awakfina's agent just so damn eager to get her into any voice over role that is open? I don't even think it's out of passion for the style, I think it's just because it's the easiest thing for her to do. She's even got at least a half-dozen more VA roles coming in 2024 already confirmed in Kung Fu Panda 4 and IT alone.

To be fair, she does also have a super-distinctive voice, and is very expressive when she speaks. So it’s a pretty good fit for voiceover work.

Definitely do this yearly. And just every once in awhile for different types of films like genres (idk). I just like how y'all did somethin a bit more different than usual and executed it great.

Batgirl and Scoob: Holiday Haunt really deserved to be released especially since they were already done and it’s wrong for a studio to cancel a finished film but released failure after failure that wasn’t Barbie
Well done. I was apprehensive to click on this for some reason like getting in the shower, but when I got in, it was warm and fuzzy and delightful.

The ending title had so many puns it felt like a hbomberguy video could be made about unpacking all of them.
Well, it sure was a tough couple of months for actors and writers. But thank god they eventually convinced the studios to be more fair to them and made it work

There's no industry that doesn't have nepotism in it and if you're the child of talented people, there might not be a guarantee that you'll also be talented, but there's a certainty that you'll pick up something.

The end of physical media is terrifying and maddening. It also makes no sense when you have a finished movie to not release it.
The funny thing is that Video Game Adaptations, the one category usually cursed, got their best year with The last of Us, Super Mario, Five Nights at Freddy and we can even add Dungeons and Dragons even though it is a boardgame. We are truly living in a weird era.
I really liked the Haunted Mansion honestly, it at least felt like there was some genuine heart in it

Well, the industry could have hit some really big lows this year, but if history teaches me something is that when you have reached rock bottom, theres nowhere to go but up.
History has taught me that you NEVER reach rock bottom. You can always go lower.
Just remember there is no trampoline at the bottom. You can always hit rock bottom and just stay there.
You can always still go six feet under.
If you've hit rock and can't dig any deeper then that's when you start drilling.
