Fun Fact: Apparently, the scene where Charlie notices the newspapers about Willy Wonka's success Dr. Wonka framed is based on an event in Tim Burton's life where he met with his mother after years of estrangement. Turns out while he left home at 15 due to constant fights over his decisions, she had posters of his films framed and even kept her ticket stubs from when she went to see them.

the most unbelievable thing in the whole movie was how Willy kept this bar of chocolate his mother gave him when he was a child for all those many, many years (even while traveling aboard to hot climates), yet it was still edible at the end.
I'm refusing to believe this is a canon movie until i can force my head cannon on this movie that his mom was a tooth fairy and his dad was a dentist so he's a sweet tooth.

@benzaiten933 Chocolate bars have extremely long shelf life without spoilage. We still have chocolate bars left from WW2 that are edible, though admittedly very dry to the palate.

@@RachMonPhoebswhen I was in grade school I was a Star Trek TNG fan and they were selling Star Trek: Generations chocolate bars. I bought 5 and considered them too valuable to eat for some reason. I wrapped them in paper and then in duct tape and put them in my drawer. Several years later I opened one to see they had completely crumbled to powder.
You know, that scene where they were in the chocolate vat, swam in chocolate, but then gave all the chocolate to the people. All of that chocolate was contaminated by them, thus began his constant health and safety violations.
That's not chocolate Charlie...
Maybe that's the reason no one went inside his factory for years.
Gotta respect the film for respecting the lore of Willy Wonka's complete disregards for OSHA

They kept the location of Charlie's home and the factory obscure in the original, even adding in contradictory details so it couldn't definitely be placed in any location
Yeah I love how it was located in Germany/England/the USA all at the same time.
I always thought the Chocolate Factory was in London, England, and never thought it was ambiguous. But, it sounds like they did the same thing The Simpsons did with Springfield, which has an unclear location somewhere in the US.
Yeah, wasn't the whole point of the book that a child could imagine this amazing, magical place and not just have it be this real, definable place.
Charlie doesn't want candy crazed spoiled Wonka fans knowing where he lives.

There was a full circle moment, when Wonka lost his last coin down that street drain. That has to be the coin Charlie Bucket finds, buys one more chocolate candy and finds the golden ticket.

@@JustJustin. it would be difficult to hint at without just having a Charlie Bucket character find the coin in the drain. That might’ve got too confusing if they were planning to do a sequel that also happens prior to the original story

I like that there’s a generation of kids who are going to one day realize this was their introduction to movies about the drug trade and a first lesson about how the state will inflict violence to serve the interests of business.

Honestly, I would argue that Wonka’s experiences with the Candy Cartel and the inn probably helped wisen him up. Like, his sense of whimsy never left and he knows there’s good people in the world, but seeing the level that some people went to screw others over for their own benefit probably helped make him get a little more cynical of certain individuals (plus, you know, people sending spies to his factory to steal his recipes probably didn’t help).

It was the most unexpectedly sweet, whimsical, and delightful pick-me-up that I've seen since before 2020, and it brightened my dark, cloudy winter wonderfully.
Wasn't expecting much but I ended up liking it actually and even got quite emotional at the end.
I cried happy when he reunited Noodle with her long lost mother. 🥲
This and the paddington movies are so good. The have heart and are charming and fun

Paddington with a blockbuster budget is the cure for the soul we never knew we needed.
With a wonderful soundtrack from Nick Urata, the lead singer of the wonderful indie band Devotchka!!!!!

The possibly imaginary city of New Norway France Great Britain York actually had the ideal climate to make perfectly magical chocolate and tiny horses.
This was an absolutely delightful movie. And sometimes, that's enough.

Gene Wilder's somersault at the start of his film, was his idea, so that the audience knew they couldn't trust a thing he did or said. I really loved this film. :)
Not going to lie the Scrub Scrub song is still stuck in my head, and I watched this over a month ago.
The final scene with Fantastic Mr. Fox showing up to talk to Wonka about the Dahl Initiative was crazy!
In (I think) Danny the Champion of the World, he ends up selling a candy recipe to the Willy Wonka factory, the Vernicious Knids were actually introduced in James and the Giant Peach and Willy Wonka fights aliens and goes to other dimensions in Charlie and the Great Glass Elevator

I watched this with my 11 year old cousin who has learning disabilities. It was actually really sweet when Wonka admits he can't read and my cousin emphatically shouts "me too!" in the middle of the theatre.
I had no desire to see this film, but yall actually made it look better then any of the real trailers ive seen for it. Gonna go see it tonight!

They somehow managed to PERFECTLY capture the wholesome whimsy and slight darkness of a Roald Dahl novel. Getting the Paddington director to do this movie was fucking genius.
Also it's hilarious that the movie people expected would ruin the Gene Wilder and Johnny Depp movies ended up feeling closer to the original novel than both of them combined.
b while most people prefer the gene Wilder movie they do know it's not really loyal to the source material. They just find it to be an improvement anyway.
The Johhny Depp movie is closer to the novel since the author iirc worked / was consulted for the movie, what are you even eating there? Raw spoiled cocoa?

I loved this prequel. It is much better than it would have been if we just got a newer adaptation of the story. It really was enjoyable. It felt like a love letter to the original movie back in 1971. I also liked the music in this movie

Dare you to do a fake trailer that at first seems like its for the upcoming "Snow White" film, but is actually for the really good "Mirror, Mirror" (2012) film - kind of what you did for the "Reefer Madness" / "The Big Lebowski" films
Wonka was a truly fantastic movie and was fun, emotional and heartfelt. And my family and I enjoyed it immensely. I really hope they make a sequel or do something with Charlie and the Glass Elevator.

I love how he sorta starts the review like “It was wholesome! Get over it!” And that’s how I felt watching it. I actually loved it. It was charming and fun and entertaining. It also had a lot of lol moments. It was just harmless, wholesome entertainment, and one of the most enjoyable movie experiences for me in the past couple of years.
Hats off to The Wire cut! It was like The Pit, Wonka style!
