- Wonka did sneaky good work at the box office and was generally liked by critics and audiences alike. Its first sin was trying to hide the fact that it was a musical. Let's see the rest of them, shall we?

You have to remember, the Wonka in the original spent 20 years in isolation after some of his employees betrayed him by selling his recipes to his competitors.
also have to remember this Wonka has nothing to do with the other ones, its its own movie.
@@rogusmith2630 , it is actually set up as a prequel to the Gene Wilder movie. That's why it uses so many aspects from that one, like Wonka's outfit, orange oompa loompas, etc.
@SgtSupaman the director said this is not an official prequel and should be considered a companion
I love the original but enjoy the less murdery and more wholesome version of the character
@@detective_mitch_connerBut at that point why call it a companion. It fills the perfect shoes for it to be a prequel. Especially since the oompa loompas and style of his factory is pretty much the same as Gene Wilder's version
For Colin & and Barbra, the actors are Phil Wang & Charlotte Ritchie, who were both on Taskmaster UK (love taskmaster). Phil was on in season 7, Charlotte was season 11, leaving me with a 4 letter word, which would be gery, meaning subject to frequent and sudden changes; variable, unpredictable.
Fun fact about Charlotte, she was also in the 4th Harry Potter film.
JEREMY HAS TO SEE THIS
I knew I recognized her from somewhere (turns out it was Taskmaster) Now I'm wracking my brain on who she was in Goblet of Fire (HP 4)
Edit: I was thinking of Olivia Coleman (who played Mrs Scrubbitt) and was in neither Taskmaster UK nor Harry Potter.
And my 4 letter word is "NEEEEERRRD!"
Season 7 of Taskmaster is hands down the best season. Usually they have one contestant as chaos incarnate, but in that season they all were and it was a blast.
I still see Phil's Wang when I close my eyes at night 😂

And now, every time a man says that to me, I’m always ready for candy. Sometimes, it’s not candy 😭
Biggest LEGITIMATE sin--he stole cocoa PODS, not just beans, as the beans are contained inside the pods, and since each pod contains somewhere between 40 and 60 beans, he has way more than 4 or 5 beans.
whaaaaaaaattttttt??????? that is so f#cking complicated
@13:30 - Wokna casually lifts a 150 pound manhole cover with his fingers and tosses it aside like it was a movie prop.

Hmmmm maybe because it is
Seems like he's a male Mary Poppins in this movie.
Damn I’ve got some news for you
As is written

All pants are underwear, but not all underwear are pants, pants are a specific type of underwear. Pants is also a unisex term, while women wear "knickers" they can also be called pants or panties. Pants are often called underpants, no we don't have overpants so no idea why we specify.
Thank you for listening to my TED Talk on pants.

The post-credits scene of Lofty showing a little bonus of what happened to Willy Wonka's friends and also enemies in the aftermath as well was great.

@@spklyunicorn So did I!
I love when Cinemasins does movies that I don’t care to watch but am petty enough to sin LOL
When I saw the marketing for this movie I thought this was supposed to be a Willy Wonka origin story. Now I am just confused because this looks like a mash up of Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them and Annie and Chocolat and none of it makes sense for that premise.
While it isn't entirely confirmed, when willy gets off the ship, im pretty sure hes called either chef or chief, which means he COULD have been the chef of the boat, also explaining the carrots in his hat for stew.
He said he solely focused his studies in chocolate making. He doesn't know how to read and he probably can't cook either
He’s repeatedly called chef as he gets off the ship… I watch with subtitles lol
@@fuzzyapple when he says that he said "i focused most of my studies exclusively in chocolate" and from hayleys repl he IS called chef, so he either A: ate many kinds of chocolate over the years to keep some kind of balance diet of chocolate, or B, he learned how to do basic cooking.
Imagine being an orphan, being raised by 2 of the most english people to ever english
And growing up with an American accent.
Its basically blasphemy.
Was she really raised by them? By the way I see it is she spends most of her time cleaning with the other people that got scammed so that's where she probably got it from
@@zoeallen6734 that's a fair point, even so the accent would be a mix of all their accents with heavy 1800's English tones.
It's a joke, of course they couldn't expect a child to imitate an accent like that, it's difficult enough for adults with native English accents.
Although I will say the amount of American accents does genuinely make you forget this movie is set in England though, which is one of the few nit picky issues I have with the movie, wouldn't change it though, I actually loved the film through and through.
Is wizadora Wonkers mum? Wizadora was a UK kids show...
* and *, that's all I'm saying.
I thought it was set in Geneva @@mickieg1994 (because the text in the movie makes some French references, such as using Messieurs) and because it appears to be cold mountainous climate (the coast could be the coast of Lac Leman)
10:10. That's glass. You can't dance around on 19th century leaded glass. Dear me!!!!!
I'll be the nerd. Those pods are WHERE the cocoa beans or seeds come from.
It's a very neat process from start to finish but inside that giant pod, when cracked open it looks like animal intestines but if you dry out these seeds inside it and throw the goo away, roast them to certain temp for a certain time, then peel the outer husks out.
The real "cocoa beans" (really seeds) and then ground to a fine powder and then sugar is added, BAM. Real chocolate.
What makes the differences between often very cheap quality chocolate (hershey) and one of very high quality (lindor, Cheribaldi etc. other swiss chocolatiers) is the quality of the beans themselves and how they were treated along the whole way.
It's more complex than just grinding the dehusked seeds and adding sugar, but that's the gist. It's so funny to see the inside of a cracked pod. It looks like a facehugger monster from the Alien movie franchise but without legs.
The amount of people upset/surprised that this movie is a musical have not seen ANY of the Willy Wonka movies 😭😭😭
bro this is literally a prequel to the 1971 version that was also a musical so it shouldn't be that surprising unless they never saw the original
I’m going to take a wild guess and say these folks have never seen the original.
@@nellywilliams2776 probably haven't I have seen both the 1971 and 2005 version multiple times as a little girl then I saw this one at the cinema as a young adult
Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory literally has "The Candy Man" within the first 2 minutes (excluding opening credits). A few different characters have full songs in it.
Granted, Charlie and the Chocolate Factory limited the songs to the Oompa Loopas (I think it's been a while, but I can't remember anyone else singing).
So I'm with you, I was pretty surprised people didn't expect it to be a musical.
I admitedly never saw the original and I can't barely remember the one with Johnny Depp so yeah...
7:34 Dude you are a LEGEND for that one!!!!!
RIP Gilbert!
18:17 Willy and Noodle are both wearing clean clothing now though, and there isn't a drop of chocolate on them, so this clearly took place later in the day or even a few days later.
Just watched the movie a couple days ago... to be honest... I really loved it. Was silly and ridiculous, had fun songs, fun visuals, made me laugh a bunch more than I expected and I can't say how much I adore cartoonishly evil villains. It gave me some Live Action Cat in the Hat vibes (In that the movie doesn't need to make sense, it was just fun). I recommend it!
Ah finally, all the important bits of the movie without having to actually go see it
Phil Wang (Colin) and Charlotte Richie (Barbara) were both in the tv show "taskmaster". Phil was in season 7 and Charlotte was in season 11. So the four letter word I'm going to use to sum up this movie is "daft".
Hugh Grant nailed his role as Lofty and his Oompa Loompa song is very catchy.
The dancing scene when they're kicking 🤣🤣
Jokes on you, I took a chocolate thc edible and imagined he was handing edibles to everyone. Made the movie a WHOLE lot better 😂😂
Dude, your writing and delivery on this was SUPBOERB. You are like fine wine. This will be a rewatch many times. Bravo.
Willy Wonka doesn't need a backstory - he just exists, for the purposes of the original story, as this mysterious, reclusive, eccentric, slightly sinister figure. I watched the 1971 film again this Sunday past, and that's the version I'll stick with - nothing beats it.
I don't mind Wonka having a backstory, but this isn't it. Neither was it him having a hardass dentist dad who could literally relocate a brownstone condo. If the Burton version only showed him going into the jungle to enlist the help of the Oompa Loompas, I'd have been fine with that. But they wasted Christopher Lee in the lamest way possible.
Reminds me of how Disney tried making backstories for characters like Cruella de Vil and The Mad Hatter, even though part of what made them interesting was leaving some things mysterious and unsaid. Coming up with an explanation for every little thing cheapens the whole story and this is something modern Hollywood is horrible with
eh I disagree I kinda liked this backstory even though no one asked for this film I still love this movie
I agree he doesn’t need one, but I can completely believe this, especially with the mention of the rival chocolatiers from the og film. It’s a very sweet film.
I now love both movies, and so do both of my young girls. We can love multiple things at once!
This was massive whiplash after seeing dune 2
Try seeing it before Dune 2.
Imagining Paul breaking out into songs about chocolate.
@@bobs_toysHAHAHA I just saw dune 1 for the first time a few days ago and imma go watch the 2nd one this week (I LOVED IT) and I started laughing thinking about Paul singing about chocolate randomly 😂😂
Edit: Just watched Dune 2 a few days ago and I ADORED it! A bit bummed about the cliffhanger and the end of the movie, but the movie was SO GOODDDDD
In both films Charlamet's beautiful face is used in place of charisma or likeability
as a long time six idiots fan, i got very excited when I saw matt and charlotte, and Simon was part of the writing team for this movie!! So good, i love that they're all still working together.
Never would I have imagined a Taskmaster reference in a CinemaSins video, let alone one about Wonka.
"Deus Ex Chocina" pretty much sums it up, hahaha. 😂 That was a genius dig on this travesty of a re-rebooted re-remake.
Yeah, this whole movie was garbage. Shouldn’t have been made.
@@willtheprodigy3819I liked it, as long as I don't compare it to the original too much lol
It's not a remake. It's an original origin story.
It's a prequel
@@jgabraham4913 There's nothing "original" about it. The project was a disaster from start to finish, "chock" full of chocolate rain, and a river of slurry and sludge that is Hollywont's slushy specialty of cacao.
For me some of the best parts of "Wonka" were the songs! The actors and extra's all did amazing work I loved how literally every single performance felt like a musical straight out of Broadway!
And listening to Timothee Chalamet sing "Pure Imagination" makes me think that Gene Wilder would've been both proud and thrilled!
Whole movie was garbage. Sorry.

I have no idea why people liked this movie. Granted, I'm biased as I'm not a fan of musicals, but I was so bored I bailed after 40 minutes.
It is a good movie, some people love musicals, why would you go see a musical if you didn't like one?
Colin (real name: Phil Wang) and Barbara (real name: Charlotte Ritchie) were both in Taskmaster, with Phil being in series 7 and Charlotte being in series 11. 11-7 is 4. A 4 letter word describing Wonka is "cute".

Charlotte was also in a PBS show that involves midwifes. I'm not sure if Phil was too. But he could have been.
Her name in the midwife show was infact Barbara

17:09 extra sin: with how quick and easy it was to get Noodle and Wonka you would think that people have died in the chocolate before meaning could that be considered as cannibal chocolate
The dentist that removed my wisdom teeth was literally named Dr Cutright
Surprised you didn't mention the fact that my main man William will put actual live insects in his chocolate, allow people in the city to drink chocolate that he and a child were swimming in, and allow his friends to eat years-old chocolate that has been who knows where BUT his travel factory has hand sanitizer.
Dude, why is _this_ the moment you start caring about health and safety regulations?
It's sort of the same as the way he takes away people's free will (you can't tell me those Broadway chocolates don't), gives two people (at least) severe alcohol poisoning, steals a myriad of things: balloons, giraffes milk, clothing, and cocoa pods, but taking a pint of milk from not-plot-important characters is absolutely off the table. Why is _this_ the moment your ethics kick in?
Who thinks CinemaSins needs to do the Tremor movies! I love those movies, and I would love to see their take on them!
So I just got through rewatching the original “Beetlejuice” movie, now that the trailer for the sequel is out, and I was BEYOND shocked and disappointed that CinemaSins never did a Beetlejuice sin video. Soooo I request as a fan that you do that, especially since the sequel is just months away lol
The reason they didn't do a sin video for Beetlejuice is because you can't sin a perfect movie. It would basically be "Opening credits SKIP Oh, look! Lydia is floating! The end". Granted, they could easily tack on 100000 sins at the end for the simple fact that it took over 35 freakin' YEARS to get a sequel but that's pretty much it.
@@caseymacmacl7463
Lmao, one, the channel description says that no movie is without sin, secondly, they sin even their favorite movies that they think are legitimately great movies.
The narrator of these videos, I don’t know his name, for the Lion King sin video (the original animated movie, not the “remake”), he thinks the Lion King is a masterpiece and they still found things to sin lol.
Besides with the Beetlejuice sequel coming out this year, I think a sin video of the original movie would be great, to lead up to the sequel.
Your channel is the first thing I think of when I start getting pissed off at a movie I thought I would like, like this one. Also, if they're not feeding the giraffe then there wouldn't be any poop /s lol
